Here are the steps to troubleshoot your heating issue:
1. Update the system BIOS.
2. Configure Alienware Command Center.
• Open Alienware Command Center
• Set the Active System Theme - Thermal as Performance Mode
3. When the system boots up, using the preinstalled software Dell SupportAssist run the stress test.
• Dell SupportAssist > Hardware Checkup > CPU > CPU stress test
4. Launch the Alienware Command Center, go to Fusion, and monitor the CPU frequency.
• The CPU peak temperature should be less than or equal to (≤) 100 ℃
• When under high stress, the system average temperature can be expected to be less than (≤) 100 ℃
• Note: The CPU average temperature can be expected to reach 95 ℃ under cool mode for the Alienware m15, m17, and x17 systems

The battery will last anywhere between 2 hours at full performance and 5-6 hours when you limit most of the components. Very good product if you do not need to move too much.

Dell/Alienware make great products. The laptop stays very cool for a gaming laptop and runs all the games I play smoothly. I recommend this laptop to anyone who is looking for a reliable gaming laptop. (Especially if you can get it on sale)

Be smarter than me - don't go with Alienware

Massive FPS drops and CPU spikes in-game while playing Fortnite on lowest settings possible. This created a stuttering that made it unplayable. Laptop runs SUPER hot even while not gaming. Then it appears that the USB charging slot has burned out (maybe because it runs so hot?) and now the laptop won't accept a charge and it is completely dead. It is 4 months old. Took a gamble on Alienware. No one to blame but myself.
