Customers love the x14 R1's performance, build quality, and compact size, frequently praising its portability and comfortable keyboard. However, some users express concerns regarding battery life, fan noise, and the device's tendency to get warm. The small SSD storage capacity and high price point are also mentioned as drawbacks. Why did I wait so long to try Alienware?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first time using an Alienware product, and I’m very impressed with the experience. The build quality of this machine is apparent before I even power it on. It’s slightly heavier than I would expect, given its dimensions; it’s just a bit over half an inch tall when sitting on feet/pads that raise the bottom to facilitate airflow. It feels substantial, like it was machined from a single piece of metal. The exterior has a beautiful white matte finish with a stylized “14” added to denote model. Performance is excellent with an Intel 12700H (12-gen), 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and the GeForce RTX 3060. I offloaded my Steam library to a high-performance 2TB external SSD connected to one of the two available Thunderbolt 4 ports, and speeds are stellar. The 144Hz, 14” 1080p display is really nice to game on. I was skeptical about the size and resolution, given that I’m used to gaming on a 32” 4K monitor, but my concerns were quickly laid to rest. Details are crisp and easily discernible, and this panel presents every pixel smooth as glass. At 1080p, all setting on high, frame rates in Elden Ring stay right at 60fps. Connected to an external monitor via HDMI, I kept the resolution to 1440p; it was still very playable with frame rates staying in the low 50s. The RGB backlit keyboard is fully customizable and a pleasure to use. The touch is firm, with shallow keystrokes. I love it. A large multitouch touchpad sits below the keyboard and works great without any adjustment. Under load, the fans do an admirable job keeping the system running smoothly, but it does get quite warm to the touch. I was a little surprised the first time I heard the fans spin up while gaming. I thought my wife had started the vacuum in the other room! Once I realized what the source of the new sound was, I quickly tuned it out. It’s a nonissue. Speaking of sound: Away from my desk, the speakers are serviceable. I would recommend connecting your favorite gaming headset or external speakers when at your home base. The Alienware X14 has a headphone jack, one USB 3.2 port (Type A), and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. There is also the USB C charging port. All ports are located on the rear panel. For non-gaming use, battery life is okay (six hours, give or take). Gaming is another story. From full charge, the battery lasted about an hour before I plugged it in. While gaming, I’ll definitely stay in range of a power outlet. My overall impression of the Alienware X14 is excellent. I have no complaints other than I waited so long to try an Alienware. Highly recommended!

Intel Sucks
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely fantastic laptop except Intel has the processor locked so it cannot be overclocked/undervolted. Would definitely prefer a AMD processor. Screw intel.

Posted .Greetings from the Intel team. Thank you for your review; your feedback is too important to us.
We understand that you would like this Laptop to have an unlocked processor; however, the Alienware - x14 R1 model has been designed by the Manufacturer to use the Intel® Core™ i7-12700H processor.
An option for a Laptop with an unlocked processor would be the Alienware x17 R2 Gaming model, which comes with the Intel® Core™ i9-12900HK processor.

Excellent machine

Runs games like a dream without having too annoying of a fan for the size. Was pleasantly surprised by the power after coming from a MacBook Pro.

Broke in 3 days
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first got the laptop it was amazing but then 3 days later after buying it the laptop stopped working. Power button was blinking multiple colored lights. After doing some research on the lights my laptop had power-rail failure which is essentially a motherboard problem. I returned it and haven’t purchased another one since!

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When gaming intensively it will get to 100c. Then drop. I really have no complaints, just a bit of paranoia about the temperature.

Stay Away
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this laptop for my daughter as a present for her 1st year at university. Worked great for the first 3 months then her Wi-Fi icon disappeared and quit working. After multiple calls to Dell tech support and multiple attempts to fix it (resets, reinstalling Windows, being mislead by tech support) it was decided that they needed to send a tech to replace the network card. The card was replaced and then the screen would not come on. Another work order was placed to replace the mobo, processor, video card and network card. The laptop works but now we have a bitlocker error that we're dealing with. Worst buying experience I've ever with electronics.
