This is the first really high and notebook that I’ve ever owned. I’ve always wanted a Mac and has a design student thought it was time that I got one. I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it. The display is super clean in the keys feel really nice. The little touch bar at the top of the keyboard is awesome and very useful. The only thing I can say that I don’t like about this is that it comes with type C USB ports. Unfortunately all of my devices including my mouse, Wacom tablet, and midi keyboard would not work without me having to purchase a adapter. Which you can get online for about 20 bucks or just go to Walmart and get one. I got an Anker one. And it works great and at a fraction of the Apple version’s price. Other than that I am loving it and it has been such a huge help with my IT and graphic design courses. It’s worth the money.

Great Computer USB 3 only connections.

Great computer, very powerful and easy to use, but if you are converting from an old Mac Book Pro, you will need to set aside another $200 for adapters and cables so you can use older external devices that do not use USB 3 connections.

    Beautiful looking overpriced laptop

This new 15” MacBook Pro is a beautiful piece of machinery but simply overpriced for what it offers. The mousepad is unnecessarily too large and the deletion of multiple media card ports, really is disappointing. I do love the look and feel of it, nonetheless.

    Powerful, elegant, almost perfect.

After nearly one month of ownership and daily use, I am very satisfied with my purchase. If you are looking for cutting edge technology at a fair price, you are looking at the wrong product. The MacBook Pro received a massive performance boost for 2018, but that alone is no reason to spend the $2400+ on a 15" MacBook Pro when you could easily purchase a windows machine with similar or better specs for $1000 less. That does not mean the extra money spent on a MacBook Pro is a waste. What really makes the price worth it is the ecosystem that comes with apple products. While the hardware can be had on a windows machine for much less money, you will certainly miss out on OS-X and the seamless integration of other mainstream Apple products such as the iPhone and iPad. Before I decided to purchase the 2018 15" MacBook Pro, I was a diehard Android/Samsung phone user. I was extremely happy with my Note 8 and was ready to upgrade to the Note 9. My only Apple product was an iPad Mini 4 which was necessary for work (I am a pilot and the only authorized tablets to be used in flight are iPads for my aircraft). After seeing just how well my iPad worked with my new MacBook Pro, I decided it was time to buy an iPhone XS. Since then I have made the switch from my home cloud server that I was using, to a 2TB iCloud subscription that makes transferring files from my Apple devices effortless. I use my MacBook Pro for average things, as well as some programming (python, ruby, swift), and some design work (front end, adobe illustrator, etc). The MacBook Pro is by far the best machine I have used for my programming and design tasks. I look back on all the times I had to find workarounds for my Lenovo and Dell machines to perform simple programming tasks and realize how stupid I was for not switching to Mac earlier. Overall, I am blown away by the ecosystem, and the performance that comes with the 2018 Macbook Pro. The device itself is elegant and refined. There is some discussions ongoing about thermal throttling and keyboard issues that may arise due to dust or debris getting inside the membrane underneath each key. I have yet to experience any of these issues. I have given the MacBook Pro 4 stars instead of 5 due to the potential lingering problems that may pop up in the future. It does appear to be a legitimate concern for most users, and it certainly has been a common issue. I have monitored my CPU temperature while programming, compiling, doing design work, and while benchmarking. I have not seen my MacBook Pro thermal throttle, nor has my performance be substandard during any task. It appears to really only be an issue with the i9 machine while doing heavy 4k rendering and edits. If you are really worried about the keyboard issues purchase Apple Care + within 60 days of your purchase date so that you will be covered for an additional two years of warranty. If you are not too worried about having an issue then purchase your new MacBook Pro with a credit card that provides you with purchase protection. My Visa Signature card offers me an additional year of warranty coverage on my MacBook Pro for free. I would not hesitate to purchase this MacBook Pro again. My only regret was not being an Apple user before I made the purchase.

Great laptop with lots of power.

Previous to this new MacBook Pro I had a 2011 MacBook Pro and 21” Mac, both appeared fast enough. I was so wrong once I started using my new MacBook Pro. I never realized how slow those had become. When opening applications, they are just there. It’s simply amazing. Recently I went through my old 13” laptop to clean things up so it could be used for another purpose, it was so slow and took so long, I could not go back. At first I thought the 15” MacBook Pro would be too large since my other was a 13”. I love it and wonder why I didn’t do this the first time. Besides running my normal programs I beta test software and one item in particular used to take an hour plus to perform. Now it takes four minutes. I’ve also noticed remote access with my iMac is absolutely flawless and just works every time, something my older laptop simply would not do. I’ve heard users complain about the Touch Bar and accidentally hitting it but if you are used to typing, that is not a problem. Originally I was not going to get the Touch Bar, but after using it, I like it and am getting more used to it. Eventually I’ll customize it for various needs. The best part is being able to use Touch ID to log in, instead of my passcode. That and being able to use Siri to open folders, etc. for me as opposed to clicking. It’s so much faster and can be accomplished with “Hey Siri” , click the menu bar, the Siri app, or my preference, from the Touch Bar. In beta testing the only unexpected caveat was due to Apple’s new APFS file structure. It does not allow for third party file recovery or booting from external hard drives. Booting into Recovery Mode will allow you to designate an external hard drive as start up but it’s no longer a simple matter of holding down the option key. As for file recovery, that’s never been a concern of mine since I constantly maintain two different backups, one is Time Machine the other a clone. This is something I’ve done since my first HD20 became corrupt years ago and my dealer said he could repair it. He did, by erasing the entire drive. If it hadn’t been for my wife secretly getting this for me, I would have procrastinated longer. Bottom line, why in the world did I wait so long?

    My favorite MBP yet!

    |
    Posted .

I migrated from a Late 2016 MacBook Pro 13" to this in December, and could not be happier. It's faster, more powerful and has a better display than my previous MBP. The trackpad is an absolute beast on this laptop and is a pleasure to use. The Touch Bar will take some getting use to, however, the integrated Touch ID sensor works flawlessly. Just going to say it now, you WILL need a dongle. If you've got a ton of stuff that uses older connectors, any one of a number of innovative port expanders/docks/hubs will let you hook everything you need to your MBP with a single cable, and (with the right dock) it'll even charge it simultaneously! It blows my mind that the people who griped about how easy magsafe was to yank loose are now griping about it being gone. It was ANNOYING. Now you can use any of the ports for charging, and the USB-C connector doesn't have an "up side". It's super-simple to reconnect it any time you want, and it won't pop free every time you shift in your seat! The keyboard takes some getting used to but it is more precise than the previous version. I hit keys, it puts letters on the screen, that's fine for me. I've had this laptop as my daily driver for about a month now and battery life has been nothing short of amazing. The last thing I want to touch on is the speakers. Now I'm not sure if the improvement is to be expected coming from a 13" to 15" but man do these speakers on this new MBP sound amazing! Honestly, I actually enjoy listening to the speakers on this laptop as before I would connect my AirPods and listen to my media that way. Overall I could not find anything worth noting that was bad about this device, everything works as it should. Of course we all cringe at the thought of spending the amount of money Apple charges for their laptops or all of their products for that matter. However, I can honestly say that I've never owned an Apple product that didn't live up to their high expectations.

The Near Bezel-less display is sheer perfection. Color reproduction is impeccable and helps while editing videos and photos on the go. If resolution is what you are after, the retina display will not disappoint. Text and video is crisp with details in high MP cameras being retained. This is a creative persons dream. The i7 - Six Core Chip has plenty of power to keep you working swiftly. GPU accelerated by the Radeon Pro 555X you will experience relatively shorter encoding times. I've seen my productivity increase because of this pair. When you are ready to kick it back, the duo also does a great job of playing your favorite games at relatively high settings. Just be aware, the resolution is pretty high so don't expect it to run AAA games at max settings. My only complaint is the lack of expandability. I hate that the SSD is soldered on the board, and at 256 GB that isn't much. However, I do most of my editing off an external SSD so capacity is unlimited. Paired that with installing non-essential apps on the SSD as well and you will have no problems with storage. It's just that whatever capacity you pick is pretty permanent when it comes to on board memory. The aluminum chassis is perfect. It is thin, rigid and light. It is what every laptop should be. I don't mind the keyboard...I just hope they have fixed most of the issues. Overall, this is a near perfect laptop and a creative persons dream. I'm very happy with the purchase and have been using it every day since I bought it.

    Powerful and easy to use

    |
    Posted .

I bought this computer to eliminate the headaches of multitasking between an iPad and an out-of-date notebook PC on a notoriously slow internet connection. At first glance, it’s very sleek and appears to be ahead of it’s time compared to most new models of other brands. The price made me hesitant, although after 2 months of use I’ve noticed that it can tackle everything I need and more. I’ve come to realize that by purchasing this device, you are really paying for super ease of use and having a computer that can start up and get right to the task in seconds. I keep 10+ tabs open and play music without ever feeling like it’s working too hard. The speakers are amazing! There are four thunderbolt ports, so no matter where my charger is I can plug it in on either side without worrying about stressing the cables. Originally I was going for the model without the touchbar because I did not see myself using it (no touch bar is not available on 15in model). However, as I take a lot of screenshots for studying, having the button always in plain sight has saved me lots of time and fumbling in the menu. The track pad is massive! I can crop an entire page without the need to release a finger. Speed, build quality, speaker quality, reliability, and seemless connection with other apple devices truly reassures me that I wouldn’t rather have saved up for another computer.

    Huge upgrade over the 2012!

Don’t believe everything you hear the base model 15” is all you’ll need unless you’re a content creator. This is an outstanding laptop. I was really worried about giving up all my ports on my 2012 by USB see is definitely superior and worth the trade-off. The build quality is through the roof. Being able to unlock my Macbook Pro with my series 3 Apple Watch is the most convenient thing ever! I’m really digging the trutone display! Subtle but yet makes a big difference. This is perfect example of where the total is greater than the sum of the parts! This is by far the best laptop you can get for a student. Just run windows 10 as a boot camp partition!

I got this computer after going back to college. I was going to use the computer mostly for school work and for occasional fun such as movies, and games. When going in the agent helped out by telling me all the details about each of the models. I chose the larger screen because it would let me work on multiple things at once. For my first Mac I am so happy I went with this model. It is able to help me out with many things such as doing school work to even watching Netflix on my down time. I never have issues with this computer compared to when I owned a windows computer. I purchased it with the Microsoft Office for Mac as well as the insurance which I am glad I did. It will take you a minute to get used to it but you can get used to it fairly quickly. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a kid going to college or even for leisure use.

    POWERHOUSE

    |
    Posted .

This computer is just a powerhouse. It's thin, sleek, modern, and all the other wonderful adjectives you could appropriately conjure up for an inanimate object. In all seriousness, the 6 cores make multi-tasking a breeze (the bane of existence for all creatives), and the display does not disappoint. Get over your irrational fear of not having access to a USB port and buy the $20 adapter... USB-C (thunderbolt) is so much faster, and it makes charging this computer so simple. Speaking of thunderbolts, in terms of performance, this computer is lightning quick. The processor has a nasty turbo boost, and even while running photoshop, lightroom, logic, and 3 web browser windows, i experience no delay whatsoever. IT IS UNREAL. This computer cannot disappoint you. As a full time professional musician and photographer, i HIGHLY recommend this laptop to anyone in the creative realm.

perfect for almost any program you're trying to run. if I were to go back to when I bought it, I wouldn't have gotten the touch bar or the 15 inches screen its too big to fit in most backpacks and the touch bar tends to lag out sometimes leaving you to have to manually change the volume etc. overall great computer for college, editing, and even if you wanted to gaming (not recommending it as a gaming computer although)
