Very Disappointed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just purchased and set up today but it is going back tomorrow. I set one 8 feet away from my car parked on the street and you cannot read my license plate. I placed the other beside my front door which is 20 feet away. if you try to zoom to see faces it gets very grainy and blurry. My car has been broken into repeatedly so if you can't read a license plate or zoom in then WHAT GOOD IS IT??? Can't wait until it gets dark to see what it does but I do not have great expectations. All of these good reviews have me baffled as these are why I purchased this junker.

Arlo Ultra 4K wire free indoor/outdoor 4k System
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little IR security system. You see everything in color. The spotlight is a great add on too. This is much better than the Arlo Pro system that we also have. I would recommend this Arlo Ultra to anyone wanting a security system.

Easy Setup and Excellent Video Quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Ultra security camera has amazing clarity in its videos. It can be used indoors or outside. I have mine outside with a 180 degree color view of our yard. The picture is sharp and detailed. I can zoom in on things for more detail and I receive alerts on my phone if a person is detected in the view. The alerts have worked perfectly, letting me know every time we come and go through the yard. Even in the dark, the camera provides an excellent image. It is wire free, and could easily be stolen, but you will have the perpetrator on video if it is. Because it works through wi-fi, you are somewhat limited on where you can place it. Too far from your router and it won't work. Setup is super easy. Download the app to your phone, screw the base into the place you want the camera to go and connect the included hub to your wi-fi. The camera magnetically mounts to the base so you can position it just how you want it. I couldn't be happier with the Arlo Ultra. I plan on buying more cameras for other areas of my yard.

Works Great.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Ease of Setup & Installation No Electrician Required Appearance App Rechargeable Battery Cloud Subscription Pricing Viewing Angle Audio Multi User Access Auto Zoom & Tracking Magnetic Battery Life Video Quality Night Vision Cons: Response to Motion (delay) Network Connectivity I was really excited to receive this product. I recently purchased my first home, and security is one of my top concerns. I already have a home security system, with a few cameras but was excited for the features the new Arlo had to offer. Product arrived in high quality packaging. Everything you need for setup is in the box from the camera to the screws for hanging the magnetic mounting plate. After opening all the pieces, setup was as simple as downloading the app, connecting the smarthub to our router, popping the rechargeable battery into the camera and following the instructions in the app. After connecting to the network, I sought out a spot on the exterior of my home that would give me the highest visibility. After charging the camera battery, I began using the ‘camera positioning’ feature in the app and I was disappointed by the Video Bandwidth I was getting in the spots I wanted to put the devise. I have 1gb up/down fiber optics internet, a powerful router and I was only 20’ away from the smarthub so not sure why I was having bandwidth issues, 4K video or not. I finally found a place that had strong bandwidth that had decent coverage, and mounted the bracket and camera. 30 second installation, and no electrician required! After installing, I tested out some of the devises features. -Spotlight offers enough light to startle an intruder, but not so much that you will annoy your neighbors. Similar to the flashlight on a phone. -Siren is loud and annoying enough to scare of any unwanted visitors. -Audio through the devise using the mic on your phone sounds crisp and loud. I was able to clearly hear a conversation down almost a block away! -Responded to me walking around in the zones I designated motion alerts for (you can draw zones in the app) but doesn’t pick up motion far to the left or right. -Night Vision works great if you provide an unobstructed view. In a perfectly dark space it works great and the image is crystal clear, but outside any light in the surrounding area cause dark and bright spots. Not good enough to identify an intruders face more then a few feet away. Color Night Vision: works only with spotlight on. Unable to figure out this one. Outside of the light though you have lots of dark spots. -Battery worked great after my second charge. 3 weeks in at at 80% battery still. After installing the battery went from 100% to 20% within 24 hours. Just let it die and then recharge and you should be good! -Motion Detection has about 10-30 second delay and takes an additional 10-20 seconds to open the live stream in the app. By that point the person is usually walking out of camera view. -Video quality is pretty good but I learned I can only get 4K video when connected to a strong WiFi network on whatever device I am viewing on. Doesn’t seem to record in 4K either? When you are streaming in 4K it will say in the upper left corner. May be a settings thing. I definitely cannot make out license plates or clear faces from the street or even my own driveway. -Package detection I was not able to try. It’s currently in beta and has great potential, but I placed the camera away from my front door which is where the camera needs to be to utilize. This is a really cool and unique feature that will be great when it’s fully up and running. Overall, if you are looking for an easy to setup camera system, this is a good option, but know it has a few quirks such as network connectivity if you are more then 15-20’ away from your router or a network booster.

High Quality And Simple To Install/Setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m not handy. Really, I’m not. I’ve wanted a state-of-the-art security camera system for the longest time. But being completely born and graced with two thumbs, any system I might buy couldn’t require much drilling, much wiring or anything overly complex. Sure, I could hire a company to install a camera system, but that just adds another layer of cost and I didn’t want to have to spend even more money. Enter the Arlo 4K Ultra UHD Wire-Free Security Camera System. Let me assure you, even if you’re two thumbed like me or maybe even three thumbed, YOU CAN DO THIS! I say this with total confidence because I did do this. So, let me spell this out for you. The Arlo comes packaged perfectly in a box with everything you need. You get the Arlo Utra UHD Camera, a charging cable for your wireless camera (including a USB charging brick), the base unit to connect to your home router via the included Ethernet cable, and the magnetic wall mount with the hardware to install it. To install the rechargeable battery, push the button on the bottom side of the camera, which releases the camera from the camera housing. Install the battery by pushing it in and it will click into place. Plug the charging cable into the USB charging brick, then just tap the magnetic end into the underside of the camera housing to charge. It will blink blue a few times, then to check the battery status going forward, you check is using the Arlo App on your smart phone or tablet. Next, download the Arlo App to your smart phone or tablet and plug the Ethernet cable into the base station and your Wifi Router. Create an account in the Arlo app, then the app takes you through the simple steps of connecting and setting everything up, including updating the firmware on the base station. You will be guided next to connect the camera and also update the firmware on the camera. In a matter of mere minutes, you’re all set up. Easy-Peasy, even for the two-thumbed among us! Included with your purchase is Arlo’s one year of Smart Premier Service and rolling 30-day cloud recording for up to 10 cameras. Should you want Continuous Recording, you can buy an annual plan at additional charge. Now all you have to do is decide where to install the magnetic wall mount. For me, the most complicated part of installing the camera is having a stucco house, so I had to use a masonry bit on my drill. So how does it all work. Really Really GREAT. The Arlo camera is 180 degree – Panoramic view. It has a spotlight and dual microphones and a speaker built in as well. If someone shouldn’t be there, you can tell them they’re on camera and tell them to leave. You can also set up the app to use e911 at the touch of a button on your phone. Night vision with the Arlo is great. And it’s in color, not just black and white like many other camera systems. If that’s not impressive enough, the camera is 12x Zoom to boot! The video quality is uniformly EXCELLENT. Set up couldn’t be easier. It looks great and works even better. All in all, this has to be about the easiest to install wireless security camera system you can get.

Not Much of an Upgrade
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Ultra 4K UHD Wire-Free Security Camera System is Arlo’s next product in wireless home security. It touts features such as 4K UHD recording, Auto Zoom and Tracking, and color night vision. Though this is supposed to be Arlo’s most advanced camera, I didn’t find it much better than the 1080p versions. My Set Up I used this camera near my front door for testing. The camera was positioned unhidden 20 feet (clear line of sight) from my Wi-Fi satellite and 30 linear feet (through one floor level) from the Arlo base. My network is provided by an Orbi whole-home mesh system which is made by Netgear (who happens to be the parent company for Arlo). My internet service is gigabit, so there are no bandwidth issues. Features of the camera 4K UHD recording – This is supposed to be the clearest recording commercially available for home security cameras. I expected to see quality paralleled with a 4K movie played on my 4K UHD television. What I got was more grainy and not this high quality image that I expected. In fact, that’s when it worked at all. Using 4K recording, I could not stream an image to my cell phone in the app. I have uploaded a screenshot of the horizontal gray lines that I viewed instead. Auto Zoom and Tracking – The feature is a really neat idea. The camera detects motion and basically zooms in and follows the moving object. It had a little delay, but was cool in that it could decide what to follow. My big complaint with this feature was that it does not work when recording in 4K. The settings automatically change if you tell it to record in 4K or turn on Auto Zoom and Tracking. Turning on one feature turns the other feature off. Having a 4K camera isn’t useful if the other features don’t support 4K. Color night vision – I was stoked to see this as a feature on the camera system packaging. The biggest complaint about my previous camera system that I owned before this Arlo was that the night vision wasn’t very good. My hopes were that this feature would be able to provide more information through color in combination with the higher quality recording (4K). What I was not aware of is that in order for the color night vision to work, the spotlight has to be on. This is a problem for me as I would rather the criminal I am recording not know where my cameras are. My understanding is that the extra light is needed is order to record the color information, and that this illumination process is not specific to Arlo cameras. Other camera systems require lighting to record in color at night as well. You can still record in regular night vision without the spotlight. Battery Charging – First, the camera only comes with one rechargeable battery. I find this to be an issue because unless you have found a way to charge the camera in-place then you will have times where you have to stop recording to charge the battery. I would suggest that Arlo give 2 batteries in the next package (or at least one extra depending on camera package). Second, the charging method uses a proprietary cord. If you lose or damage the cord, you will have to get one from Arlo. Battery Life – The packaging describes the batteries as convenient and long lasting. This is not the case. My battery went from 41% to 5% in the first week. Charging a battery every 2 weeks (especially if you have them mounted out of reach) is not convenient. Spotlight – The spotlight is optional (you can turn it on and off). It is also adjustable, so you can control the brightness level. It can work with the motion sensor or you can manually turn it on. Again, this is required to be on if you want to use the color night vision feature. Siren – There is a siren feature that you can manually turn on if you want to create a noise or draw attention. The siren is not very loud in my opinion, and I’m not sure that it would be that effective. Call e911 and Call Friend – There are features to manually contact an emergency number from the app. I did not test these two features. Magnetic Mounting – The camera can attach to the mount magnetically. I think that this is a neat idea, but due to the shape of the camera and cupping of the mount it is somewhat limited. Some people have raved about this feature, but I wasn’t completely happy with it. Likes *Decent Quality Wireless Camera *4K recording (new standard in home security cameras) *Auto Zoom and Tracking is a neat idea *Color night vision adds value of clarity in low light situations *Has Siren, Call e911, and Call Friend features *Magnetic mount idea *Comes with 1 Year of Arlo Smart service (cloud recording) *Has option for SD Card recording Dislikes *4K Streaming would not work at all on phone in house *Cannot record in 4K when using Auto Zoom and Tracking *Battery Life is short and only comes with one battery *Charging cord is a specialty cord *Color night vision does not work unless spotlight feature is turned on and spotlight is illuminated *Siren feature not very loud *Requires paid subscription after the first year if you do not want to use SD Card option Overall, I think that the Arlo Ultra is an average security camera. For a wireless camera it’s not bad, but the battery life is short and new features that didn’t work as I had hoped. This leaves me a little unsatisfied with the product. I think that if you must have a wireless camera Arlo is a good starting point. However, since the new features on the Ultra didn’t work well, I’d recommend looking at the 1080p Arlo cameras instead of this one. The Ultra cameras will cost more, and I don’t see any real benefit for the extra cost. 4K will be the new standard moving forward, but this camera doesn’t exemplify that standard.

Easy Setup, Great Picture, 2s Delay
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in search of a security camera to place outside of my home and decided to try out the Ario product. I have really enjoyed the ease of setup and easy to use software that you control on your phone. Pros: Easy Installation LED Light on Camera 4K quality Motion Sensor Wide Angle Lens SD Card slot to save video Accessible Outside of Network Durable Long Battery Life Low Light Mode Night Vision 2 Way Audio Cons: 2 Second Delay in recording Video Library Management :: Installation / Setup :: The base station connects to your router and requires a power source. There is a slot to insert a Micro SD card to record 4K video. The camera has a magnetic base station that is pretty powerful. It has withstood some heavy wind gusts and rain without any sort of movement. The battery within the Camera is secured from the elements and lasts for 3 months. Mine has lasted longer since I have it on an "Arm" schedule. :: Camera :: The LED light on the camera is impressive and provides enough light to see who is out there. The motion sensor works great for people , objects and critters. I like how you can modify the view angel to Super Wide 180*, Wide 155*, or Full 120*. The Audio is sharp and picks up clearly whatever is nearby. However when using the 2 way Audio there is a noticeable delay. Which brings up the one issue I have with the video. There is a 2 second delay upon once motion is detected and recording. It is very annoying and unable to correct. :: Arlo Software :: The software is very easy to install and setup on your phone. There are a lot of options available for both the Arlo Hub station and the camera. You can view the battery set arming schedule, enable/disable LED light, modify video/audio settings and set Activity Zones. There is a feature to check camera positioning and motion sensor to help make sure it is in range and matches your preferred motion sensitivity. There is even a CVR option to use as a timeline feature (With a Plan upgrade) Overall I have really enjoyed this camera and its features. I am disappointed at the 2 second delay from motion to recording however does not impact what I use it for. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for an easy to use security camera.

Good product that relies on other products
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an early version of the Arlo camera and have been satisfied with it. I was really excited to see how the Arlo products have evolved. Truly wire-free is a huge upgrade. The big questions: 1. How easy is it to connect to my network (and how stable?) 2. How good will the images be? 3. How long does the battery really last? I took the time to really use the product before writing this review. To my summary/title, the biggest challenge was getting the camera to stay reliably connected to my network. My WiFi router is located approximately 40 feet away, through 3 interior walls and exterior lath and plaster. Ultimately, I had to add a repeater to maintain a high-quality connection. That solved, the Arlo Ultra+ camera provided nice quality images in a wide range of lighting conditions. I live on a street with a decent amount of vehicular, pedestrian and pet traffic. The Arlo did not constantly alert me, and I believe it never missed an appropriate time to record movement. I love that you can tweak the motion sensitivity and I love the phone notifications. I don’t love paying for a monthly subscription. But what’s the price of piece of mind? That’s your call. Overall, I think the Arlo Ultra+ is a nice evolution and is worth the price tag. DO plan to provide an relatively close repeater if using the camera outside your home or office.

Too big of a flaw for a paid service.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo - Ultra Indoor/Outdoor Wire Free 4K HDR Security Camera System was nice and easy setup, but to be honest, I expected a lot more from a premium security camera, which makes this set a difficult one to recommend. To start out with what I liked about the Arlo - Ultra Indoor/Outdoor Wire Free 4K HDR Security Camera System was the flexibility in placement. Its wireless and comes with a magnetic mount that you can basically place anywhere. I was a bit skeptical with a magnetic mount being used outdoors, but for the two weeks I have had the camera mounted, it has not moved at all. So down load the app, sync to the Arlo base station, sync to the camera and mount. Literally, 20 mins to get up and running (minus fully charging the camera). Within the Arlo app, you can add some customizations, such as video quality, highlighting the activity zone in which you want the want to capture notification when there is activity. This is a nice feature as the camera lens can be set to Full, Wide or Super Wide to change the range of video capture and you can define a set range within the video range to trigger an activity. There is also 4k live streaming which does produce a very nice quality feed with the default view. The more you zoom, the grainer the picture. Now let’s get to some of the disappointment areas. The Arlo base is not a Wi-Fi set up. It must be connected to your internet router through LAN connection. Not a big deal unless your router is on the complete opposite side of your home of where your camera is going to be located. The camera has to be within a good range from the base station to establish a connection and provide timely alerts. Obviously there are ways to work around this issue, such as buying a longer Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi extenders or mesh systems with Ethernet ports, but that is added cost to get the Arlo base station in the optimal location for all your camera locations. The recoding quality was OK. Even with the best quality setting, honestly I feel like you would have to know the person in the video to do any sort of identification. Any zooming, cuts away on the quality and it is too grainy to get any detail profiling of a subject. Another big miss is the customization with the modes. By default, you can Arm, Disarm and Schedule when the security camera sends alerts. Scheduling is nice, as you can set a daily schedule by the hour, but the lack of additional customization within the scheduling mode is disappointing. For example, I can create a new mode that allows me to select whether or not sound can trigger the camera. The placement of my camera is outside of my porch which has a wind chime. Great, I can create a mode that doesn’t get triggered by sound, only motion. The downside of creating your own custom mode is that it cannot be scheduled and is active all the time. I don’t want the camera active when I know my kids are going to be present that will trigger the alert every 2 mins, so I try to schedule around those time. Problem with that is, with the schedule, you do not have the option to disable the sound trigger. So the technology is there, Arlo just didn’t put the flexibility in place with their app. Now comes the final and major disappointment. The recording captures. This security camera, when armed does a decent job triggering a recording when it senses motion or sound, however I do not make any sense of the variable recording times. I will have recording range between 12 seconds to 2 minutes all within activity occurring. If a person is walking around my back yard and within the active range, I don’t just get one recording, I get a handful of them, which would be fine if it needs to be split up, however there are time gaps between recordings. One recording will end, then next will start with the person 5 to 10 ft away if they are in motion. Well, that is really too bad as those time gaps could be crucial to what you hope to capture. This is with their paid service, which is included for the first year. If the mode is active and there is activity, I would have hoped for a continuous feed. That in itself is why I can’t recommend the camera as it supposedly comes off as being a premium unit.

Almost all 4k, Good app
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera package has a lot of smart features, such as person/animal/vehicle/other motion/package detection. The charger is a magnetic connection, so it is easy to snap on and charge. When you purchase, they give you 1 year free for the "Smart" package, which is $29/yr per camera, for 30 days recording on the cloud, enhanced notifications, activity zones and person identification. For $99/yr you get the aforementioned, but for up to 10 cameras with 30 days recording saved on the cloud, and e911 emergency, which allows you to connect to 911 by the press of a button. You add your address and contact info, so they receive the info and can get to your house sooner than waiting to relay that info. Arlo Smart Elite for $149/yr, has the aforementioned for up to 20 cameras, but the recordings are saved for 60 days. In order to store 4k videos on the cloud, you need to have the Arlo Smart Premier package plan, for $99/yr, plus $19/yr per camera added to the plan. If you don't want the 4k video saved and uploaded to the cloud, which takes more battery, then you get 1080 quality video that has up to 12x zoom. One of the features is for the video to auto-sense the activity and zoom/pan into that activity, but it is not 4k. The camera has an LED light on the front, so when it senses motion, it can turn on like a floodlight, and use color video vs black/white IR night mode. Pros: Great activity motion sensing, wide 180-degree video capture, can download videos locally, 4k streaming on same wifi connection without a subscription, LED light can turn on for added security, and Geo-Fence arming option, the push notification shows a screenshot of the activity, and highlights the motion area like you see on the news for a criminal in a gas station. Cons: Subscription required to record 4k video, cost for each camera is in addition to a yearly fee, and if you have multiple Arlo cameras that are not the ultra it is difficult to figure out how to add it to the 4k recording plan, and activity zones can be added but no way to remove it. Overall, this is a great security camera, and has lots of features. The app is easy to use with live previews and recording/snapshot options, as well as 2-way talking that is loud and clear, unlike most cameras/doorbells. I'd recommend this if you are looking to add additional security to your front door or inner home for spying on your pets. The beta “package detection” allows you to know when you get a package delivered, without even watching the video.

Amazing Quality - A Must Buy for the New Homeowner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I only rent an apartment but none the less I couldn't miss out on this opportunity to try out this new hardware from Arlo. First off the wireless aspect is what drew me in. No Wires? Sign me up. The installation was as simple as drilling a screw into the wall and mounting the magnetic bracket. Simple. Configuring the Arlo system was just as simple as was the installation. I had the system up and running in no more than 20 minutes and was able to set my alert schedules and parameters. The 4K quality is amazing and the ability to zoom in on any part of the image was also a big plus. Night vision was the best I have seen out of a camera this quality. Nothing was missed. I could see the smallest detail such as a fly moving through my living room. There is also the ability to control an on board LED light with a fader setting. Let me tell you that light is BRIGHT. It also automatically turns on at night if it detects motion. Finally the microphone on the app is a neat feature if you want to speak through the camera to your kids or someone at the door. If you are in the market for a new Security camera look no further. I can access this from anywhere, it may take a few minutes if I am a few states away but it works just as great usually when not home or a poor connection your stream to your phone will drop to 1080 but 'boo hoo' the 4K is great but the 1080 is just as good. The on board battery lasts forever. I have had this running for a week and it has only dropped 5% battery during the 24/7 runtime. Impressive.

Easy to set up - Clear images
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this set on Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to Best Buy, it gave me a free bonus set of Sengled Smart LED (retailed value of $70.00). This Arlo Ultra camera set is so easy to set up; though the instruction is simple but the Arlo app., after I downloaded and installed, showed me step by step to set up. It updated firmware for the base and the camera automatically. No more hassle of scanning bar codes or enter the serial number into the app. The captures are clear, images and video clips are very good. The only thing that makes me give this 4 stars is that the charging battery would be difficult, I would have to bring the cameras down and charge them every now and then unless I have to buy more wire charger and installed the wires next to each camera. The mounts are very sturdy and the magnetic one is very strong (I had to say wow when it snapped the camera firmly.)

Much improved over Arlo Pro2 Cameras
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Ultra camera has a built in spot light that will light up and provide a decent amount of light, I currently have it installed above my front door and it gives good light there. You can set up the light to be constant, strobing or flashing. This could be useful to get someone’s attention or scare someone off. The video quality is amazing, 4k is a huge improvement even over 1080p. You are able to make out colors in the low light conditions while the spot light is on, otherwise I really didn’t notice any improvements in the advertised specs of being able to make out colors. I have the spot light set up to activate so my night vision is improved. The speaker in the camera has been improved as well, still a little louder would be nicer. Also, there is now a siren that you can set off thru the camera to scare someone away. The camera itself feels very sturdy and well built. The charger is magnetic and attaches to the bottom of the camera and this helps eliminate water getting inside. The battery is removed by pushing the button on the bottom next to the charger port and the camera will separate from the case. There is a nice rubber insulation around it and it clicks back into place with a satisfying feel to it. The included magnetic mount is strong, and I have no fear of it not holding the camera in place. I did purchase a screw type mount and I am using that instead. Battery life is rated for 3-6 months and I am sure I will get between that. My current cameras will go just over 3 months, but they do see a lot of activity from the kids in the neighborhood playing in my front yard and driveway. Another benefit is that Arlo is giving away a year of the Arlo smart premier service with this camera. That usually runs $9.99 a month and provides service for up to 10 cameras and a rolling 30 days of footage in 1080p (not 4k) If you want 4k cloud recording you must pay $1.99 more a month per camera for that. The premier service allows you to set up zones which is nice if you only want to watch a certain area and get alerts for that instead of the whole field of vision. It also allows the camera to alert you to different types of alerts whether it is a person, vehicle or animal. I wish the individual price of the 4k cameras were cheaper, but they are fantastic, and having at least one for the front door is going to be just fine, at least for me.

Easy setup, spotty detection...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tend to shy away from membership/subscription based items, but this one I might be making an exception for... Setup was a breeze. Everything is packed simply and clearly marked. Had the single camera up and running in less than 10 minutes. The phone based app and web-based UI is even more straight forward and walks you through everything you need to do. Battery life (this can - not required, but CAN - be used as an entirely wireless camera) has been great. I charged it to 100% and we are going on nearly 5 days and it still has plenty of juice. From what I can tell, though, it doesn't always record what it is detecting...or it might not even be "detecting" to record in the first place. After my initial setup I was getting "person detected" and "animal detected" (my dogs...yes, the system is that good it can tell the difference between car, dog, package, person) notifications on my phone. But, it wasn't saving any of those instances. A few days later and I haven't really changed any settings, but I'm no longer getting those notifications...AND it's still not recording anything. So, I need to dig into it a little more and if I figure it out, I'll chime back in and update my review and thus my score. But, until then -- it only serves as a really easy to setup camera *monitor* that you can check in on and see a really clear picture of what's going on. It has a spot-light proximity feature, 2-way mic, and all that works through the desktop OR the app....there's no real limited functionality like I've noticed some other systems where they offer 100% of the features on the app but only a sliver on the desktop. As it's advertised, I can't really recommend it, but if it would at least notify me that something was there so I could open the app and hit record (by doing so it DOES save the video clips...but, you have to manually trigger the recording) I might. Again, video quality and sound quality is top-notch. Only, it's a monitor with the software shortcomings. Fix that bit, Arlo, and you've got a winner with this one.

Good camera, like everything has its ups and downs
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great camera system, awesome extra wide angle. Night visions is awesome. Pretty much what you would expect when looking around for cameras. The downside is the quality of the image. I have used my Arlo Ultra now for 3 months, and have it connected to a 2.4gh 5G band router, with a large data package. Streaming power isn’t something I’m lacking, yet the live view in 4K, even on a 4K device comes in very pixelated, if your expecting clarity at distance like I was you will be unhappy with that aspect. Speaking of distance, also the Arlo system has issues picking up movement of its not lateral from the camera set up. The camera itself has an impressive field of view and sees a great distance in daylight, however you cannot use the camera for such a broad area, you must reduce the visible area to a 20x20 or 30x30 area with the camera looking downward to have it operate properly. Otherwise it will not operate properly. The camera works better on 2k as it can create a enhanced image when zooming in, with 4K what you see is what you get, no zoom. The camera automatically can zoom and track objects, but not in 4K and I cannot find an option to set up zones to “ignore”. So when you set up your camera make sure you don’t have bushes, or other things that can move a small amount because your arlo will go off every minute, literally and use a whole battery in a couple days. The main reason for the 3 star rating is the advertising on the package is very misleading. If you want to have security you must pay for premium services like all other cameras. It’s not a deal breaker but be aware this camera system is not as great as it is made out to be. However that being said, it’s still a good camera especially if your trying to avoid drilling holes and installing wires. Ultimately in my case to preserve battery life I either have to have the cameras sensitivity turned way down, or hardwire them. For the price I could have purchased a comparable quality camera, with the same bells and whistles, and several more cameras. I made this choice to avoid a pesky install, which is what I will have to do anyhow

Great 4K/HDR video quality & smart features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. Superior video/audio quality with smart features that prevent false notifications. We live close to a busy road with a high level of thru traffic so I was concerned that I would get a lot of false notifications of motion detection. I was able to define the motion area for detection and then exclude vehicles and animals and only select notifications of when people come into range of my (set motion areas) for my front door and back yard. This smart feature cuts out annoying false notifications. All motion detections are auto saved to the cloud for 30 days. The nighttime vision is great and I really love the spotlight feature for my front door. The cameras really do capture a wide field view and the 4k/HDR resolution provides perfect video quality. I am not a tech savvy person and was able to setup the cameras without any problems. The fact that they are wire-free helped as there was no need to re-wire to a power source and meant that I had the freedom to place them in the position that I wanted. I was also able to give access to the app to my husband so we both get a notification when motion is detected. I feel a lot more secure knowing I have these cameras monitoring our property and if something does look wrong (hope I never have to use this feature) on your instant video motion notification there is a emergency 911 feature which you can activate that will call your local police from your cell phone.

Very Happy with the Ulrta System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loving this system, I was one of the first adopters of this system and it has come a long way from what is started out to be. The video quality compared to the Arlo Pro 2 is a vast improvement with the 4K. The integrated LED light for colored night vision is great; this is something the Arlo Pro 2 was missing. The two-way audio is OK considering the mic and speakers are so small and I am not sure they can do better considering how much space they have to work with. There is an Auto Zoom & Tracking that is cute but it is a bit sluggish, I am guessing the processor in the camera can’t keep up with the motion so, the Auto Zoom & Tracking is more of a gimmick at this point. The system has Smart Notification/Detection that will notify you if there is a Package, People, Vehicles, Animals or All Other Motion (more types of Detection coming soon from what I hear) and seems to be improving all the time as other owners share their videos to improve the Smart Notification/Detection. There is a subscription charge for the Smart Notification/Detection and also a subscription for the 4k Premium Video Recording (PVR), but it is well worth it. There is also a separate subscription for continuous video recording (CVR); all in all the subscription charges look like they are a bit cheaper than some competitors. The Arlo app is full of features that allow you to do almost anything you can think of doing with the Ultra camera system. I setup the Arlo doorbell with this Ultra camera and it’s working great and when someone rings the doorbell, I just answer the phone call on my Cellphone and I get audio and video. There is also a MicroSD card slot on the Smart Hub so that you can have videos stored locally, but currently in order to view the saved videos you need to remove the MicroSD and insert it into a computer or other device to view them. I hear that Arlo will be adding an option to view the stored videos on the MicroSD through the Arlo app sometime in the future. There are a bunch of things to talk about with this Ultra system and I could go on for a long time but all in all I am happy with the product.

Good? Great? Or it’s OK?
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My scenario... I wanted full coverage of my front yard and full coverage of my backyard. I live on a .5 acre lot. I was debating on Arlo Pro 2 vs the Arlo Ultra. I would want 4 Pro 2 cameras vs 2 Ultra cameras. The price difference at the time for me being: Pro 2 = $500 and Ultra = $560 (normally $600). So $60 difference for me ($100 difference retail) to get 4K and less devices is what I chose. Good thing is Pro 2 are compatible with hub, so if I wanted a camera for my garage, or something else I could opt for the less priced camera down the road. What I thought after I used the Ultra The Ultra 180 degree view is awesome! Has a great picture. However stock it takes 2 sec videos, which isn’t what I was looking for. I set recordings for 45 sec and that seemed to work well for me as far as video recordings go. But the battery life suffered from this, as I expected. So I purchased 2x 25 ft charging cables, the keep power running directly to the cameras, so I don’t need to worry about battery life. Pros: Great image quality 180 degree view is AMAZING. Easy to use Customizable Free year membership Battery Life (2sec videos) Cons: Battery Life (45 sec videos Short charging cable included Membership costs after a year

Great Camera! Really Good 4K HDR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera has some great potential to becoming the next generation of camera security with its 4K UHD compatibility. This camera is a big step up since the original Arlo Q security camera that they originally released and I’m still very proud of how NETGEAR & Arlo teams have been working hard on making and growing the foundation of the large product line ups and securing the future of the company and its users! I’ve been a reviewer for NETGEAR & Arlo products for a few years and giving them my opinions about my setup experience, features, performance and my expectations of products that they have either sent me and or purchased myself. Note: Arlo has provided me with this product for free, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my own use of the product and or products that I have received for review. • Camera Mount Setup The package includes one magnetic base with an anchor and screw so you can secure the base to your house depending on where you place it, once you have the base attached to your house the camera attaches right to the magnetic base. (There is a metal plate within the backing of the camera housing that you can see when you’re placing in the battery for the camera) I personally don’t like the magnetic base for the camera due to the weight of the camera and that almost anyone could come right up to your camera and remove the unit right off the front of your porch if its not located in a high unreachable place but otherwise from that you could use the included base in any situation because the connection to the base is strong with the magnetic I got a hold of the Arlo team and they we’re so kind enough to send me the (VMA4000) kit so I felt more secure with the mount and didn’t have to deal with the magnetic base anymore and personally I really like this mount way better! Its got a way better angle and I can position it to where I like much more easy. • Camera Setup Placing the battery into the camera is very easy and simple and holds a charge up to 3-6 Months depending on how many times the unit is activated and or how you have the unit setup to record video within settings. Recharging the unit is very easy with the magnetic charging cable that sticks to the bottom of the camera so you don’t have to remove the backing of the camera and or plug anything into the camera. There is a included cable to charge the camera but is very short (3 feet to be exact) that isn’t long enough to charge your camera indoors and or outdoors you would have to manually remove your well placed camera just to charge the unit or have a extension cable that can extend the reach so you can recharge your camera. Arlo does provide different ways to charge your unit that you can purchase the following 8-foot cable (VMA5000) & 25-foot cable (VMA5600C) also there is an optional solar panel that you can also purchase (VMA5600) • Arlo Base Station Setup The included base station is small enough to fit on your desk and or other places as long as you’ve got a nearby ethernet connection to a router so that you can communicate to your wireless camera and base station through the Arlo App. The base station has the compatibilities to communicate to the Arlo Ultra from 300 feet distance as long as there is a clear view of the base station to the camera and nothing in-between and if you’ve got a mesh network then you’ll have zero problems with connection. There is a microSD slot under the base station so you can store 4K video recordings and or 1080P to the microSD instead of having to use the cloud base storage. • Features I’ve touched on some of the features of the camera and its base station within the setup section of this review but some other key worthy notes to approach on here is the mutable accessories that you’ll be able to purchase for the camera its self and being able to add up to 10+ cameras to your system. The night vision is wonderful to have during the night so you can see what’s going on around the area of the camera and also the night vison with color works great as long as you’ve got the spotlight feature setting on within the camera settings of the app. 4K video with HDR is great to have when you need to see that great detail of your neighbor’s cat walking around your house and or people approaching your house to visit or to leave a package! And talking about people, animals, packages, and or cars the Arlo app will notify you directly with what the camera picks up from it being a car to a package to almost anything that the smart detection can classify it as. Being able to store 12 hours of video storage to the (256 GB MicroSD) card that I had to purchase is a nifty feature to have because if you don’t have a cloud subscription to store your video files at then this is where your Micro SD card comes in handy. • Performance The performance of the camera works wonders between communicating with the base station and the Arlo App but there have been a few times where it seems like the camera doesn’t want to respond to the base station but in reality it is because it records when ever something or someone is walking past it or there seems to be a issue within the Arlo App because when I personally go to connect to the camera to see a live stream it doesn’t play but instead it just buffers the camera and doesn’t get a connection for a little while (like 15-30 seconds of buffering) • Did the product meet my expectations? Besides the camera having its little buffer issue once in a while and the mount being poorly designed for the camera but with Arlo’s team sent me a new mount to try out for the unit that has changed my outlook on the mounting issue. So yes, this product has met my expectations and I do recommend that you should purchase these cameras if you’re looking for something with a better versatile camera then look no farther.
