    I wanted my own cable modem because my Internet Service Provider charged a monthly fee to use theirs on top of the internet service charge. I turned off my computer, disconnected the one from my ISP and connected this one. When I turned on the system my MAC address popped up on the screen - I called my ISP & gave them the number for them to add it to their system and has worked great since.
