Customers are saying

Customers regard the A40 TR Wired Gaming Headset as having excellent sound quality and comfortable design, with many praising the MixAmp's functionality and customization options. However, some customers find the headset expensive and have noted compatibility issues with certain consoles, along with concerns about weight and setup complexity. The headband's durability has also been questioned by a few users. Overall, the positive feedback on audio and comfort is significant, but potential buyers should consider the price, compatibility, and weight before purchasing.

I’ve had these astros for exactly 3 weeks and have several other headphones and headsets to compare them to. The paint on the headband is cheap and I just noticed that it has been chipping. Not a deal breaker but for this price and this early for the paint to be deteriorating is not great.

Sound quality is decent, mic clarity is very good, but unfortunately the quality of the headset is very poor. After less than a year the plastic is chipping away despite me babying the headset(always hang it up and I don't have a huge head). For the price i expected better.

Got recommended for my PS5 by bestbuy employee, failed to mention ASTRO Gaming HDMI Adapter for PlayStation 5, headset is quality made and amazing comfortable. Packaging of the headset was top notch but so far headset directly out of box has a microphone winding noise when microphone is unmuted, tried to adjust volumes but no success. I have never be supplied so many cords can’t imagine when or if I purchase the adapter what it comes with, auto is crisp but not amplified, would I recommend.... yes for ps4 or pc... for PS5 out of box no, due to other accessories need for ps5 not included in box.

I'm comparing this to the Steelseries Arctis Pro + GameDAC, which costs $6.00 less than this headset on BestBuy. This was going to replace the Steelseries, but the Arctis Pro + GameDAC beats this headset in every metric, save maybe one that is to be determined, and that is reliability. The reason I have this now instead of my Steelseries, is my GameDAC puked after a bit over a year of use and only chat mode would work on it anymore. So I wanted to try something else that was maybe more reliable long term. This headset isn't going to be it though. 1. Sound- Disappointing in a nutshell. Sound is distorted, muddy and anemic at volume levels far below where the Arctis Pro was still pumping out distortion free, crystal clear sound. Switching it from game mode to chat mode reduces the muddy, but then it sounds even more anemic. Adjusting the EQ or bass settings in the Astro software doesn't help much, and just changes the amount of mud. The Steelseries far surpasses this headset for sound quality/clarity. 2. Sound customization/software- The Steelseries has far more customization options in the software, such as more EQ settings, bass settings and room size settings. You can tweak the Steelseries to your individual taste and have it rocking, where this is more plug & play and hopefully you like one of the 4 settings. (I don't) Comfort- The Steelseries is far more comfortable on your melon, with no pressure on the top of your head or ears. I've had this on for 30 minutes and the top of my head is already getting sore and my ears are annoyed by the pressure around them. I have a normal sized head so if you have a large noggin, you're really going to dislike how tight the Astro's are and how much pressure they apply to the top of your head. Microphone- I'll have to take other folks word that it sounds okay. When I do a discord test my voice is broken up and sounds like crap, but my teammates say I sound okay in Discord. It is also missing the large easy to find quick access mute button on the left ear cup that the Steelseries has. That was nice on the Steelseries, as you could easily & quickly reach up and mute the mic. This thing has a funky slider switch in the cord to the headset with no click to indicate it is engaged. You you have to feel around the cord to find it, then slide it to mute and trust that you are muted. The Steelseries had a red LED that would light up on the mic boom when you were muted, so you knew you were muted. This thing the only way to tell is looking in Discord to see if you're lighting or up not when talking, or look over at the MixAmp (assuming it's where you can see it easily) and look for the red light on the knobs on the MixAmp showing you are muted. Footprint- The DAC on this thing is easily double the size of the Steelseries, like this thing is bigger than your hand, where the Steelseries is about the size of 2 thumbs. I can't imagine what all that desk space is going toward, since it apparently didn't go to quality amplifier electronics. Pros- It comes in a fancy box. Actually, the box is so fancy that's probably why this $75 headset cost $250, so that's not a pro either. Bottom line- This headset is far inferior to the slightly less expensive Steelseries Arctis Pro + GameDAC, and I'm sorely disappointed in the A40. If it cost $75, I'd give it 3.8 stars, but at $250 I expected MUCH more. The Astro is definitely going back. I'm not sure I trust another Steelseries Arctis Pro + GameDAC after the last one puked, but the Arctis Pro is so much better than this headset in every regard, I think I'm going to have to chance it. Apparently I need to also up my score on the Arctis Pro + GameDAC, since I rage rated it a 1 when it puked on me. *shame faced*

I have used this for 1 year now. Someone recommended this to me but it is definitely not worth the money. It is heavy and uncomfortable after a certain period of time. The quality is fine but comparing the price, it is just not that much better. The software for the headset is nearly useless. It might be good for consoles because the presets could be useful in some extend but I don't really know since I mainly play on PC. But on a PC, the software is the worst I've seen. The MixAmp is a nice feature to have for the volume I guess but the thing can't really separate game sound and voice chat. Overall, this is not worth twice as much as other popular headsets out there.

If you adjust your volume alot its a great mic other than that the cords knot up & are very easy to trip over if you have kids or pets. Not charging is cool but i had a 10’ charging cord for my wireless mic. This mic should have cost anywhere between $150-$200. Very overpriced. Dolby digital sounds trash & is useless unlike sony’s headsets. It seems strong but i see some weak points that might break in the future & be hard to fix unlike some other mics that are easier to fix.

Had to return these. Don’t get me wrong. The Astro A40s are a beast of headset. But these 3rd gen sounded way too flat for my liking. I even messed with the EQs in the Astro software. Couldn’t get them to sound good like my older 2nd gen A40s. So I’ll keep rocking my 2nd gen A40s!

Purchased this headset for my boyfriend who wears hearing aids so he can actually hear his friends when they play. the amp is amazing and works wonders, but, the wire has died on him 3 times now. 3 freaking times since July of this year. For the amount I paid for this head set we should not be going through wires like this. So disappointed in this. The one head set that actually worked for him so he could play and it hasn't held up only being a few months old.

These things honestly look really nice, but that’s about it in my opinion. The audio sounds incredibly hollow and you can’t hear footsteps as good as you think you could with $250 headphones. Either you can hear the game well or voice chat well, there isn’t much of a balance. The software that you download to customized frequencies are very underwhelming.

My experience with this headset was not great. First one I ordered came and it was clearly NOT new. It had a smell of cigarette smoke. The headset was filled with dandruff, it was NOT new. I exchanged it, got a new one, but it still wasn't great. I have an older A40 model that is falling apart but it sounds SO much better than these newer models. They just don't sound as good.

First thing if you have a ps4 slim, you can’t use this without an optical cord. If you have a ps4 pro than no need for an additional cord. The build quality is good, sturdy and looks and feels premium. Once I get the optical cord I can actually test the sound.
