I purchased this laptop to replace my wife's 10yr old 21" HDX 9000 (aka. Dragon) Laptop which has been a fantastic piece of kit but feeling the effects of time.
Before purchasing this ASUS, I did cross-shop with the HP Spectre x360 however, my HP experience with several newer laptops has been horrible and I still see enough 1-star reviews on the Spectre that confirm HP continues to put form before function with respect to thermal design (i.e. high spec HP's tend to overheat because of slim packaging and their reliability and usability suffers) so I removed them from consideration.
I've also had good experience with ASUS hardware in recent years (routers, monitors) such that I have some trust in their reliability/durability which was enough to sway me into making this purchase.
The primary use for this new ASUS Q536FD is photo and video display and editing which it, unsurprisingly, handles with ease.
The spec sheet on the laptop compares well with competitors where you can expect to pay anywhere from $100-1000 more for the same (and in some instances, less) hardware.
Functionally, the ASUS is everything it should be at a decent price however, I can only muster up a 2-star/Fair rating on the basis of a few things that we've found unforgivable;
#1: Straight out of the box when you open the screen on this ASUS, the branding stickers and etchings are tragically crooked! I can get past the stickers because they're removable but there is an obviously misaligned/crooked "harman/kardon" branding on the right side of the keyboard that is etched into the chassis and the only option to look past that is to cover it with a sticker.
This issue wasn't just isolated to a single device either - the replacement device we received due to issue #2 below was even worse.
I understand this sort of aesthetic issue may not bother some folks at all but first impressions last and this is an instantly bad one for a lot of folks. As an Engineer, the etching serves as a constant reminder that ASUS can't write straight and/or has poor quality control. For the folks that think I'm being pedantic/OCD about this, I've no gripe with you marking this review as unhelpful.
#2: Creaky hinge... ugh. The left hinge was unbearably creaky after 2-3days of initial and minimal use and seemed to be temperature dependent. For a 2-in-1 device, the hinges are an especially critical component so Best Buy thankfully offered us a replacement device which currently does not have this same issue.
#3: Tablet mode issues - rotation in tablet mode is hit and miss and will not rotate correctly for the laptops orientation leaving you looking at an upside down image until you swivel the screen through to laptop mode and back again.
Also, if resuming from sleep in tablet mode, the on screen keyboard disappears (the outer frame is shown but no keys are displayed) and you'll have to repeat the same steps as above. Really frustrating but if I had to guess, this is likely a Windows issue more than ASUS but in either case, for the end user it ultimately doesn't matter and detracts from the overall experience (for the record, the Windows OS was up to date).
Having only had the device ~2 weeks, I can't speak to durability, reliability or support from ASUS but putting them aside for the moment and ignoring the issues I've outlined above, the device is just fine - it mostly looks, feels and functions like a premium device and we'll likely end up keeping it but if ASUS is truly "In Search of Incredible", a good start would be to look in the fundamental places like quality control.

Dear Windza,
We appreciate you taking the time out to share your review with us. I am pleased to hear that the computer is everything it should. I do however see where you did have a few issues which I would happy to assist with. What I can do is to have your reports on the branding aesthetics and creaking hinges forwarded to our relevant department so they can look into in. As for the switch between tablet and notebook mode, you can try updating your FlipLock driver here: https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/Q536FD/HelpDesk_Download/ . That driver aids with making the transition more smoothly. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] and use the link to this review as a reference so we can discuss this further or visit the Asus live chat support 24/7. We look forward to hearing from you, have a great day. Thank you for choosing ASUS!

It has taken me months to write this review, but it's necessary to do it.
If you're thinking about getting this laptop... don't.
I bought this laptop for architecture and I thought it was great for the first week and then it just went downhill.
I live in Germany and brought my laptop back home with me. It worked well and then one day I tried to turn it on without the AC cable and it just wouldn't turn on. I thought it was because it had ran out of battery in the middle of the night, so I just plugged it back in and it turned on. Later I disconnected the cable and it immediately turned off. I can't use it at all if it's not connected to the power.
I tried to contact ASUS and try to find a solution, because again, like I said, IT BROKE A WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT. They didn't help me at all "because I'm in Germany and the warranty doesn't work with ASUS Germany". They wanted me to send it to them and I had to pay the costs for whatever it'd be.
My laptop has been broken since february 2020 and it's november 2020 now, 9 months!!!!
No one ever cared to help, they just washed their hands and left me to deal with it.
Other things to notice:
1. The constant blue screen. It's annoying. It's happened over 10 times... and I've already restored the computer, doesn't help.
2. Almost every time I turn off the laptop and then turn it back on, the wifi stops working (Intel (R) Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz). So I have to delete the driver and restart the computer.
This happens almost 3 times a week or maybe even more. I haven't found any solution, even with all the solutions the windows team has told me do try.
3. The camera glitches so much. There's always these grey or random colored lines whenever I use them on any app. It's so unprofessional now that I'm forced to do online meetings too. I don't even know why this happens.
4. The trackpad is terrible
Obviously, shipping it to the US for the warranty is not a viable solution at all because the shipping itself is so expensive. Would have expected more for a $1K+ laptop. Never buying anything ASUS again.

Dear Vanessa,
We do understand the inconvenience this may have caused you, your dissatisfaction with the quality of the product and your recent customer service experience.
All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last, the blue-screen-of-death, battery, camera and touchpad issues are random.
To resolve the bluescreening, please update Windows if it's not current. About the battery charging issue, please charge the battery without power on and being used. Once fully charged, use the unit without the AC adapter connected until it completely drained. If this is not possible, disconnect the AC adapter and fully-drained it, leave it unplug for at least 24 hours then charge it fully without the system power on and being used. Please repeat this process a couple of times. Regarding the camera, please ensure Windows is running with the most current update and internet connection is working properly since poor internet service, while accessing web application, will affect the camera quality. The touchpad is a smart device, please allow some time to get use to the multi-touch function of the pad. In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update.
We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. This is not the quality of service expected from ASUS. We do stand behind our product and we continuously strive to improve our approach and processes in order to achieve customer service excellence. The laptop can be sent to the ASUS service center in Germany. However, this will incur service charges since the laptop is only covered with a local warranty. Meaning, warranty is only applicable from the country it was purchased from.
If you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to help. Or, call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.
Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Based on the specs I purchased the computer to replace a 4 year old Asus (non SSD) to edit photos and the occasional video. It locks up every time I use Photoshop. I have tried multiple configurations using the GeForce graphics card and / or the Intel on board graphics. I've reset the computer multiple times.
Nothing works.
I've included a photo of the error message.
Otherwise it is a fairly fast computer.
Very disappointed

I love everything about this laptop, the touchscreen is nice, the build quality is superb, the processor and GPU give you tons of power and the ability to switch to the igpu can give you many hours of battery, but my main issue is that the screen itself has extreme color banding. This is what I expect on a 100 dollar budget laptop, not a over 1500 dollar machine. This really soured my experience with it. Maybe I got unlucky but this just ruins the overall experience and premium feel.

I've grown up on Asus laptops in the past decade while steering away from HP ones fraught with heat issues. Right off the bat, I love the brushed metal body and the Pantone touchscreen on the interior of this laptop. The color accuracy of the 4k screen especially helps with photo editing. I recently swapped out the built-in SSD for a larger one, but the first one didn't give me issues. Performance was snappy. I also owned an open-box Inspiron 7573 for a brief time. While the Inspiron frequently felt warm, had its fans on audibly, and stuttered quite a bit, I for sure experience far less of these issues on this Zenbook Flip 15. (Not sure if I can attribute this difference to open-box quality items or brands.) I personally wished the exterior build of this laptop matched the premium interior. Don't get me wrong, the build quality is great. The cover has a matte finish that has very, very little but still noticeable flex. The ergolift hinge is great for dissipating heat, but the fans are on the back of this laptop. Heat may escape up your screen. The glossy hinge also tends to creak a bit, but it still seems to hold up well. I wish it was made from a more hefty material.
All in all, a great premium yet lightweight 16in ultrabook that packs a good amount of power for light gamers and creatives.

I was torn between replacing my 2012 macbook pro with another Macbook, Dell Xps15 or Asus Zenbook pro. I went with this laptop as it has all the specs I was looking for and lots of storage for my photography. After using it for almost a week I'm still on the fence about. The battery life has been way less than the 9 hours rated, which maybe is expected with a 4k screen, the USB c port is not a full thunderbolt 3 4 lane port to my knowledge and the Ssd is only SATA, not NVME like the other laptops inward choosing from. I must say for the price it does pack a great amount of features, very light weight and the screen quality is amazing. As long as you are ok with the drawbacks you will be happy.

Runs fast, not true gaming PC fast, but good enough to handle most tasks. Experience lag while watching some large file 4K videos (30+ GB), but then switched the file locations from the 2 TB hard disk drive to the 240 GB solid state drive and everything ran perfect. Screen is beautiful! Can definitely notice the difference between that and 1080p the same size. Battery life is no where close to advertised, maybe 2-3 hours with moderate usage. Extremely light and sleek. Comfortable keyboard. Good external transfer speeds with USB 3.1.

Pros:
-great battery life when in battery saver mode, I can get 10 hours out of the battery when doing school work.
-great storage
-runs every game I have tried. Far cry, assassins creed, etc. Some it cant play at 1080p but it runs 720 just fine.
Cons:
the first day I had the laptop I experience the "blue screen" that others experienced but I just restarted the computer and updated the drivers. Some of them corrupted so this fixed it and havent had any problems since.
-the touchpad gets a little screwed up sometimes like it has a hard time finding where my finger is.
-the rubber pads on the screen that lift up the back of the computer fell off after 8 months
-if the screen is flipped over and using in tablet mode, the fans blow the heat on you and it is uncomfortable to have it sit on your lap
-when gaming in high performace mode it does get hot (which is to be expected)

Perfect for taking notes in class and playing games on the weekends. The best part - $1000 cheaper than a comparable macbook pro or surfacebook 2.
The good:
Really portable for a 15" laptop (lightweight and thin)
The screen is awesome (4k is a huge step up from 1080p) making Netflix and chill that much better. Plus it folds all the way down, making it a perfect replacement (along with oneNote) for a paper notebook. (neither the macbook pro or surfacebook2 have 4k displays, and only the surfacebook2 is touchscreen)
Applications load fast and run smooth with the 256GB SSD and 16GB ram.
Keyboard, trackpad and speakers are good, though not quite as good as a surfacebook/macbook.
Only a couple complaints:
palm rejection while using a stylus is not perfect, it works most of the time but occasionally it will get in the way of writing on the screen. (I use the waco bamboo stylus)
battery life is decent, about 6-8 hours with normal use, but of course it could be better.
exhaust fans are fairly quiet but you will notice them at higher speeds.

So, I had purchased this laptop due to an unfortunate experience with a parallel Dell Inspirion that I had also bought from Best Buy. Please feel free to search for that review.
Simply put, I am happy with this purchase, but this computer is far from perfect.
Pros:
* Lightweight.
* SSD and hardrive gives speed but a lot of storage space.
* Screen is fantastic! Colors and brightness are superb.
* Touchscreen.
* Startup is fast as it should be with a SSD.
*Processing speed is fast.
*Dedicated video card.
* I think the battery lasts long enough considering the screen resolution. Estimate at least 6 hrs on normal desktop applications like word, etc.
Neg
* Being that it is light there is a lot a light plastic parts which could be slightly easier to damage than some other laptops I was looking at.
* The track pad is not great. Sometimes it does not register finger touch adequately.
* The laptop appears slightly uneven when placed on flat surfaces. Can be some wobble while typing.
* Even though it has a dedicated video card it is only 2G.
In summary, for the price, screen, and storage I am very happy with this laptop. I am using it for school and for work and it does the job well. I really don't have time to game but tried a BattlefieId 4 and it performed well on the top settings. I do recommend getting some sort of accident/performance protection for these modern touch devices as even though they are cool you can tell they may be susceptible to damage.

Works great. Boots up fast. More than enough storage. Display is great.
The only issue I have is with the battery. The battery only lasts a few hours. Within ten minutes of not being on the charger (and at 100%) it is down to almost 90%. I’m not sure if this is common with 4K display laptops but if you’re planning on taking this on a trip, don’t plan on using it on long flights. Other then this, it works wonderfully.

I bought this as replacement to an older, failing laptop that I've used for many years. (Toshiba Satellite, you served me well.) The older laptop was a 15.6 inch system with a built in optical drive, and while not as large as some, it was a hefty workhorse of a laptop. This model of Asus was appealing to me because of the size, portability and capability potential that it had.
As is the trend with our current digital age, it has no optical drive, reducing size and weight, making it very portable. (About 4.19 pounds, .8x14x9 inch size specifications.) Easy to slip into any standard case or backpack for transport. While a 2 in 1, I feel that the build quality, especially the hinges, are study enough to believe this laptop will hold up in the days to come.
I do some photo and graphic work at times, so the 2 in 1 ability, and touch screen were a great draw as well. The screen folds nicely against the body, and makes it easy for any lap or one hand carry use. The screen, while not as brilliant as some, is still bright and clear enough for getting a good view of any work that you need. Some areas that are black may tend to fade out, making details difficult to see. However, I've watch videos with relatively no image or great detail issues. (If you max out the screen resolution, there is a slight problem if you have pop up boxes that you need to read. The text is hard on poor eyes.) Touch use is good with a finger, and even better with a stylus (I use the Wacom - Bamboo Ink Smart Stylus, made specifically for Windows Ink.)
The i7 processor and GTX 1050 graphics card give this 2 in 1 a bit more capability for more than just business/work use. I will admit that I'm a gamer, and will game whenever I get the time. I have played the Sniper Elite games, Elder Scrolls Online, Elite Dangerous and many other games of various system requirements. As of yet, I have not had a failure or slow down of this computer while gaming. I will warn you though. While this is capable of gaming, the bottom, which doesn't have the usual vents of a gaming computer, will get scorching hot.
I don't play games while holding this on my lap. I prefer to use it on a desk or table, and I use a five fan cooling pad underneath, to dissipate as much heat as possible. The design of the hinge is made so that it lifts the computer, slightly, allowing better airflow underneath, and the rear vent to blow out unobstructed. The internal fans are noticeable and will work to cool down the system regularly. I don't think much about the fan noise because I'm used to my old laptops that sounded like I was sitting on an airport runway with various aircraft taxiing by.
The speakers are bottom firing, and can create a bit of muffle when if one uses them without a headset/ear buds. It does have Bluetooth, so that if you have a Bluetooth soundbar/stereo, you can always connect to that device, and play anything with better quality, if you can't have any over the/in ear devices on.
This laptop has served me well for almost a year, and is holding up very good. While I believe Asus has discontinued this particular model, and replaced it with something very similar, I can recommend this type for anyone looking for a business/standard use laptop with a little heart of a gaming system inside.

I've had many different laptops over the last 10yrs, from almost every brand. I was down to this asus or the new xps 15. Ended up getting the asus and I'm quite happy with my choice. It is a little heavier and bulkier than some of the competition, but the power you get in return out ways the negative of the weight. This thing is fast and powerful with an absolutely beautiful display. Deep crisp colors and the audio sounds terrific. I love it and am happy with my choice.
Couple negatives but all the other positives outweigh my issues with this machine. Battery life is not great, frankly bad when compared to the competition. But for me if I get 5hrs or so I'm good, this might be a deal breaker for others tho.
The touch pad is not incredibly responsive which is annoying to me sometimes, but I use a mouse alot so not a huge deal. Other than those couple things, this laptop is awesome and worth the $1,700.

I initially spent over $2,000 on a dell XPS 15 2-in-1 and this Asus 2-in-1 works even better, for a cheaper price. I spent hours customizing everything on the dell website only for their product to get to me unusable as the touch pad didn’t work. I sent it back, went to Best Buy, and bought this one. It is PERFECT. It can handle entry and mid level gaming. You can use it as a tablet or laptop, and it is super fast because of the solid state drive. It also has a lot of storage and ram, so I can definitely appreciate those specs. All in all, I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I spent almost $1,000 less on this laptop and it works perfectly!
