After seven years, one of my monitors had begun to fail and after some searching, I came across these ASUS monitors. I was hesitant at first because I didn't know anything about ASUS monitors, but the Best Buy rep assured me that unless I was going for super high-end, these would not disappoint. After limping along with one failing monitor, I was able to score these on black Friday at a whopping $179 each, way below my budget. Many others have noted that the colors are a bit "off" out of the box, but some fine tuning of color controls and you get some stunning picture quality. I myself have also made use of nVidia's control panel to further adjust the colors to something more close to what they should be. ASUS boasts the ability to use these monitors in any position you want, however they are stretching the truth just a bit since these monitors are not IPS. Turning them on their sides in vertical view gives you washed out and inverted colors. It's not terrible, if you're just using Excel or Word, you should be fine, but for someone like me doing graphics work, having any kind of incorrect colors is a bad thing. The quality is both clear and crisp. While not 4K, stepping up from seven year old LED monitors gives me a nice view of how badly everything looks on the internet due to lousy camera phone quality. Low-res video will also seem more pixelated just because everything is just so much clearer. While not IPS, the screens do have a decent range so you can view them at fairly angled positions. You begin to notice whites turning yellow as you get beyond 35-45 degree angles. Blacks could be a lot more black, they do suffer from some slight washout of the back lights, but only noticeable if you have a black background like me or during system boots. The monitors support 144Hz refresh rates, but can be adjusted lower, suiting your own personal needs. Currently, with dual monitors, my GTX970 does not support anything higher than 60Hz on a second monitor, regardless if it is plugged into the Display Port or HDMI. The GTX970 doesn't come with two DVI ports, I cannot test if it's the card or the software. However, since my gaming and most movies are shown on my main monitor running 144Hz, this was not a deal breaker. However, the second monitor plugged into the Display Port does give some extra/advanced color and visual options that do not show up in DVI or HDMI under nVidia's control panel. I believe these are if you are running the monitor as a TV. The 1ms response time is also very nice, my old monitors were 2ms (not bad for seven years old). There is an option to change the amount of "tracing" you get when things move across the screen, I notice on older games like WoW, this affects it in a negative way, so I leave it down on the factory setting of 60. There are other options I haven't even played with yet, there's all sorts of them, I would recommend doing some research on them if you get these. I have not tested the speakers with these monitors, but other reviews do make mention of them. They are not on the sides or bottom, rather behind the monitor facing left and right. What I am most glad for is not only having the audio in for using the speakers, but you also have an audio out for headphones. I run a Bluray player through HDMI on one monitor with headphones out the other side. Both my monitors are hanging on a dual arm monitor stand. It's a bit on the cheaper side, but even with these monitors being a bit heftier than what I'm used to, the stand seems to support them just fine. You don't have the bulky power blocks, everything is built into the monitor. Overall, if you have a chance to get these before they are discontinued, you won't be disappointed. They have very nice feature, nice quality and are easier on the wallet than some other monitors with similar features.

I can't find a bad thing to say about this monitor. Let's start from the top. The moment I opened the case, there were two massive styrofoam molds holding this monitor in place. After removing the molds, that were extremely tight inside the box, I had removed the monitor from the packaging. Installation was a breeze as it was drop the monitor on the base and screw in. Simple! Once I removed all the shrink wrap, I had to find the included cables at the bottom of the packaging. There wasn't anything fancy about the cable placement, they just threw it in the bottom of the package. The included cables are the stereo to monitor for external speakers, DVI-D for 60/100/120 & 144hz display and lastly, the power cable. The power and DVI-D cable are about 1m / 3ft in length, nothing special. Once I booted it up, cranked down the brightness, since it blinded me, with the easy to navigate menu buttons on the bottom right of the monitor; I was ready to change my monitor to function at 144hz. Instantly when I changed it, I was hooked! Something as moving the mouse was smoother and looked much better than the same cursor on my 60hz Vizio TV or my LG 20" monitor. Onto playing games! I booted up CS:GO for two hours and everything was crisp. Colors were vibrant, and screen tearing was nonexistent. I then played Battlefield 4 for a couple hours as well, and everything felt smoother and provided a true gaming experience. It sounds far fetched, but once you play on this monitor, you will understand what I'm saying. The most noticeable thing during gameplay that I will never get over is how smooth everything looks. It doesn't matter if it's games or Microsoft Word, everything feels more responsive in workstation use or gaming use. The massive 24" display is amazing and has no issues swiveling, tilting or rotating up to 90 degrees. This monitor is perfection, and my only cons are that the bezels are bigger than I would personally want, but that's my opinion. 10/10, everything is extremely flawless on this monitor. I recommended it to my friend within 10 minutes of use. This monitor will be my daily driver for years to come, and I hope to pick up a second one later down the road for a triple monitor setup.

I bought this monitor primarily for console gaming. I wanted a monitor with low input lag and high response time and refresh rate. I mostly play FPS games so having a quick response time and low input lag is very important to me. I have been using this monitor for a couple of months now and I am very pleased with it. The picture is beautiful, and the monitor only required minor tweaking out of the box for the optimal picture settings. Colors are not washed out and are represented nicely. The LED back-lighting makes colors "pop". Aesthetically, this monitor is gorgeous. The cable management on the back of the stand is Ferrari red and the rest of the monitor is black. Overall, I am very happy with this monitor. It is exactly what I needed for gaming. I also have my computer hooked up to this monitor via the DVI input (PS4 is using the HDMI); switching between the two inputs is easy as there is a "source" button. There is a slight 3-4 seconds lag between switching inputs, but this doesn't bother me. My only complaint with this monitor has to do with the speakers. Even at 100% volume, the speakers are relatively quiet. Though I didn't buy this monitor for its speaker quality, it would have been nice to have a more powerful set of speakers. Also, there is no dedicated volume buttons, so adjusting the volume quickly is not an option. You need to enter the on-screen menu and navigate to the volume controls. Having dedicated volume buttons would have been a nice feature to have. I use a set of Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 for my computer and Skullcandy Plyr 1 for gaming, so my volume is always turned off anyway. I played around a little with the on-screen reticle overlay. It was a neat feature to have, but not something I plan on using. It was neat playing Ghosts and having the reticle on-screen allowing me to open-scope and hip-fire accurately. Also, the on-screen timer is kinda neat; this is something I will use now and again. If you are looking for an incredibly fast, low input lag, high refresh rate monitor, you really can't go wrong with this. I would not suggest using this as a primary TV though simply because of the quiet speakers and lack of volume buttons.

This December marks my 4 year anniversary with this wonderful monitor. Old faithful, this screen has been through everything with me and it still works great. Despite the fact that it runs brighter than the Sun out of the box, this monitor is the best I've ever had by far. After you do some basic calibration - there are plenty of guides online on how to do this - it looks phenomenally. The stand is amazing and allows you to lift the screen up 6 inches, tilt it in any direction, or spin it around; heck, you can turn this puppy 90 degrees on its side if you want. This makes plugging anything into the ports a breeze because you can literally just flip the screen upside-down, add or remove your cables, and spin it back to it's original position in seconds. When I bought this 4 years ago it was one of the best gaming monitor available: 144Hz refresh, 1ms response, 3D tech (lawl), antiglare TN panel with great colors, and built in speakers! Not only does this monitor still hold up compared to newer 1080p monitors, but if it's ever on sale it becomes an amazing value. I normally use this with my gaming PC but when my beautiful child was born recently started taking my PS4 with me and my monitor - and that's when I remembered this thing has speakers and started using them for the first time. Those speakers saved me when I couldn't look for my headphones because my newborn was sleeping on me but I was trying to watch a movie or play God of War. There were many sleepless weeks made much more tolerable by this monitor. Thank you Asus for making a quality product that is just as good today as the day I bought it. I'd recommend this monitor to anyone who wants to game at 1080p and get the most out of that resolution in 2019. 10/10

Asus - 24" LED FHD Monitor - Black

Asus - 24" LED FHD Monitor - Black By Dylan Mohne I recently purchased the Asus 24” LED FHD Monitor that has an adjustable stand with capabilities of going to 144hz. If you don’t know what hertz are an example is 144hz=1/144 meaning for every one second, there is 144 frames drawn on the screen. The average monitor is clocked at 60 hz so you are getting more than twice the frames per second. If you are looking to play video games and wanting to step up your level, this is a monitor you should look at. I will be going over a few different aspects regarding price, picture quality, and gaming. Picture Quality For picture quality, this asus monitor is absolutely stunning! Out of the box the picture was very vivid while the monitor felt alive. Playing different games feels more crisp on this monitor while it is set to 144hz. The smoothness of the 144hz is very noticeable as everything feels faster compared to 60hz. This is by far one of the best 1080p monitors I have ever owned and you should go for this monitor if you are looking for a better picture quality. Functionality For people that are looking to pick up an entry monitor that is 144hz to play games on, this is your monitor. If you are looking to play any type of game competitively or trying to push that ladder this monitor will help you in the right direction. When you move to 144hz you can not move back to 60hz! The stand is very durable as you can move the stand very simply and turn it another direction. You can also move the stand up and down which makes it more convenient to the person. If you are taller you can move the monitor up to meet a better eye level. Price I bought this monitor during black friday when it was on sale for roughly $90 cheaper. It was one of the best investments I have made! The normal price for this monitor is $279.99. For a 144hz monitor this is still a very good monitor for the price. Final Thoughts Overall, this is a very good monitor to own even if you don’t play games and are looking for a good daily monitor to surf the internet. The picture quality is astonishing for the price and it seems very durable and has not had any issues. For people that plan on playing games competitively and want to that one up on the competition, this is your monitor that will help you get one step closer on beating your competitors.

I purchased this monitor in store at BB because I was able to see it first hand, and there was a brick and mortar store to return to should any dead pixels arise while operating. The monitor checks off the main boxes on my list: 1080p, 144 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time, 24"+, VESA compatible, height adjusting, and port compatible with my system (HDMI). I tend to use this monitor for general computer use (web/YouTube/email/documents), but its main purpose will be gaming with my Xbox One. The monitor performs well... Although, the menu options is just not user friendly! Whenever you switch between different ports, the options that you selected for that port-profile do not remain. Once set, it translates to each port when you switch port-profiles; this is different from the monitor color-profile that you select for vibrancy (game mode, user mode, theater mode, etc...). Additionally, you have to "set" the refresh rate of this monitor to match your video input that you want. For example, if I am playing a MOBA type game that doesn't require fast refresh rate, I would have the setting at ~60/100. If I were to increase it any further, the picture quality actually diminishes! If I were to switch to a faster paced game such as Call of Duty, then I would expect the monitor to perform well at those higher settings. And as I mentioned previously, the refresh rate settings will remain until you manually change them, which could be very cumbersome for someone who wants to multi-use this monitor for a lot of things. Overall, I would not recommend this to a friend for this price. There are other monitors on the market closer to the $200 price mark. If you don't require to see the monitor first hand, then I'd go with something else. For me, this was the only option at the time in BB, and I just learned to limit the amount of times I need to switch inputs.

Ok, After reading several reviews about ghosting and 144mhz, and being thoroughly confused, i went ahead, bought the monitor, and will review to try and provide clarity to others like me. Don't worry about the 144mhz. ps4 outputs in 60hz, and using an HDMI cable, the monitor refreshes at 60hz. It will only go into 144mhz when using a DVI or the display cable. The 1ms response time is fantastic. I have poor internet. 6 down, 1 up (best offered in my neighborhood), and i still get the drop on other people. I used this monitor to replace my old 5ms Gateway LCD monitor, which is no slouch. The sound from the speakers are dismal though, barely good enough to use for watching netflix,, but I use an astro headset for gaming, so it's a moot point. Color pops, and there is no lag, no ghosting etc. It's worth the money i spent on it , $260. Also, it comes with a feature, where you can put a tiny crosshair on screen. If you play Hardcore modes in COD, like I do, it's amazing, almost cheating. EX: Outrider's Sparrow in Black Ops 3, dead accurate across the map on the crosshairs. hipfire your shotgun, without ever even thinking of ADS. Don't be scared off by people saying it's too expensive, it's not, the 1ms response time is well worth it. As for 3d, I doesn't seem like it will work with the ps4, You seem to need to use a pc, and an nvidia 3d kit (glasses and emitter). If I'm wrong though, someone let me know on that.

Before I got this monitor I was working off of a 27" IPS display. I loved the colors on it, I loved the size, everything about that monitor just about fit my needs to a "t". Except for one thing: Gaming. It was decent, boasting a respectable response time and good resolution, but something about it was off. It just didn't play as well as on my older LCD monitor. That's when I heard about the VG248QE. I took a chance and ordered the monitor. So far, no regrets. I was BLOWN AWAY by the smoothness and snappiness of this panel. If you have never seen a mouse cursor zip around the screen at 120+ fps, I can assure you it is an experience. I spent the first 10 minutes after getting this thing set up just moving the mouse around with my mouth agape. Gaming is fantastic as well. If you can drive the panel at it's intended 144FPS, it's absolutely amazing. All of my games just feel better. The stand is good, with tilt, swivel and height adjust, it has VESA mounting holes on the back, and the menu comes with a full brace of configuration options to let you tweak the color however you want. In regard to the color though, they come from the factory pretty washed out. I would recommend changing the color settings to sRGB to get a more accurate display, and even then they aren't as deep as an IPS display. Other than the color, the panel is pretty much perfect, and I plan on using it for a very, very long time. P.S. You will either need a Dual-link DVI cable or DisplayPort connector to use the 144hz mode. There is a Dual-link DVI cable in the box, just make sure that your graphics card/computer can handle it before buying.

This is a great gaming monitor with almost all the bells and whistles minus gsync. I have a gtx 1070 running this monitor an average 100+ frames per second on every game at 1080p ultra settings. It comes with a dual link DVI cable if your video card has that output which allows you to do 144hz. If you want sound and 144hz then you will need to purchase a separate display port cable. This is a great monitor for consoles as well as you have decreased input lag compared to a television and low gray to gray pixel shift. Max frames per second over HDMI is 60 for console gaming. To increase the hz from 60 - 144 requires a few button clicks on the monitor then adjusting your display settings on your PC. I gave it 4/5 stars because toggling your way through the menus is a chore and to get the best picture settings might require you to download some profiles from online. 144hz is absolutely needed for any type of competitive online fps like overwatch or counterstrike. All in all this monitor does everything you would need and then some. It's priced competitively for a non gsync monitor and it's the biggest screen size you would want for 1080p. Anything bigger than 24inches at 1080p will decrease the DPI and cause you to see the pixels and make text look horrible. If you're looking at something bigger than 24 inches then you should look at 1440p monitors.

    Amazing Gaming Monitor

The single best thing about this monitor is the blazing fast 144hz refresh rate. If you're buying this monitor for any other reasons, you're looking at the wrong monitor. Pros: As I said above, the high refresh rate is the biggest plus of this monitor. This is really the only way I can describe it: imagine watching the 48FPS version of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit for the first time and translating it into a game. The only problem this brings is that you have to have the power to run games at a framerate that high. I can see a noticeable improvement with my Radeon HD 7950 in most games, but to get true 144FPS in everything you need to be boasting a GTX Titan or a 780TI (or use CrossFire/SLI). Cons: Blacks and viewing angles. Blacks often appear grey, and the viewing angle is awful; dead center is the only way to view the screen without color distortion. The viewing angle is even worse if most of the screen is covered in dark colors: unless your face is right on the monitor there is distortion along the edges of the monitor. These are the usual downsides of a TN panel. Color reproduction however is so-so; I use a configuration that boosts the saturation so I don't notice much of a problem there at all. Conclusion: If you're a gamer, get this monitor if you have the cash to shell out for it. It's a hell-of-a-lot more expensive than standard 24-inch monitors, but for the virtually non-existent input lag and response time it's worth it. Even if you can't drive 144FPS across the board, this monitor will future-proof your system if you end up getting hardware that can. As for photo/video enthusiasts: I don't know why you're even considering a TN panel monitor. Go for IPS. And as for speakers: they're the typical junk. Slightly better than your average monitor speaker, but not something you'd want for regular use.

I researched many monitors before deciding on this ASUS. For the price, you can't beat it when compared to other monitors that are in similar price range but have 4ms or higher. With the ASUS you get 1ms response time gtg, and 144hz ( PC Gamers ). The only other monitor that comes close and some would say is better would be the BenQ ZOWIE 27" RL2755 Console Monitor. I am very satisfied with the ASUS and is ready to plug and play straight out of the box. It has a multitude of options to get the picture contrast to your liking. The sound is sufficient for most, but if your looking for theater sound out of the ASUS monitor you should invest in a pair of BOSE speakers or a headset like most serious gamers. The rear vertical stand serves very well as a headset place holder even though I don't believe that is what it is intended for. The monitor pivots and swivels, raises and lowers which makes it easy to set up when different users are using it. ( taller or shorter users ) It has multiple options on the menu screen that allow you to make subtle changes or drastic ones that fit your play style. The price for this monitor is not at all astronomical when compared to other monitors on the market that have similar features. It's well worth the money. Even a casual gamer can appreciate the benefits that this monitor offers. I would definitely purchase again and would recommend it. If your debating on which monitor to purchase for your console gaming or for your PC gaming ( 144hz ) this is one of the best monitors available for the $250-$350 price range ( BenQ being the other ). More serious PC Gamers looking for a monitor that can take advantage of their rigs hi-tech applications probably will look elsewhere but the price range raises dramatically. The sky is the limit on how much your looking to spend when it comes to monitors. The Casual, even serious gamer looking to upgrade to a better monitor ( stay away from tv's ) should definitely look at this ASUS. You won't be disappointed.

Sadly I thought a 144hz monitor would be a really great thing, and in many ways this one actually is, however, thats only if you have a graphics card capable of actually pushing those framerates. On nvidia i've noticed a rather large night and day difference between this monitors 144hz framerate, which is nice over 60fps however, Asus also has the VG245 with freesync, and if you have an AMD GPU, there is a complete night and day performance difference with freesync compared to just having a 144hz display. Yes both technologies have their advantages, however freesync in my personal opinion is much better at 75hz than this monitor is at 144hz. Not only is it smooth on a 75hz panel, your latency is also reduced by a significant margin just like a 144hz panel would produce as well. Really with freesync i find this monitor a hard sell, though ultimately again, this monitor does have its benefits. This panel does have nVidia's 3d mode that allows you to view your games in a greater depth so long as you have a powerful enough rig, as well as those special 3d glasses (Which aren't included) Secondly this Panel is really flexible with its movement, even allowing you to tilt the unit ina variety of ways foregoing the need to have a monitor arm. Though, ultimately this is just my review. I did enjoy this monitor however i feel you can have an equally enjoyable experience on other monitors made my ASUS as well. And if you can, get Freesync/G-Sync for that added extra comfort.

Very beautiful, crisp and clean display. 1920x1080 is a must and standard for any user. Anything less is not enough desktop real estate IMO. Daily use - 24", very easy on the eyes as ASUS has numerous settings for low blue light and eco modes to emit less harmful blue light in dark rooms/situations. Text is very clean and clear. the 1 millisecond (ms) keeps motion blur when scrolling through text, websites and videos to non-existant. 2 built in speakers do enough to keep clutter off the desk (speaker wise) i still use headphones when gaming. But the built in speakers are good enough for Skype and youtube videos Gaming - 144hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time...cant get any better than this. Ive always played on 60hz monitors....but when you can actually FEEL over 60fps (60hz is capped at 60 fps, even if your monitor says its doing 75-100fps its capped at 60). Im using a R7 370 graphics card (not over kill or too powerful) and runs 144hz beautifully. When playing games like CS-GO, WOW or other FPS games, you can see the smoothness of more frames per second with a faster refresh rate. Price is kinda steep for the every day computer user. I game ocasionally, but needed a bigger monitor and now i game MUCH more. couldnt be happier. MSRP is 299, but for $250 its a bargin. Note: You need DVI Dual Link (cable supplied) or Display Port (DP) connections to take advantage of 144hz, also need to change settings under your video card settings in windows to accomodate for 144hz, default is set to 60hz. HDMI is CAPPED AT 60HZ. Yes this monitor has a HDMI connection, but only use this for CONSOLE games. Your doing a disservice to yourself if you use HDMI for a PC and this monitor. any other 60hz monitor...HDMI would be fine.

If you want better results while gaming online BUY THIS NOW! For years I have played online FPS games and have tried to gain any competitive advantage I could. My obsession with finding the best hardware has intensified and I have literally tried everything over the years from gonzo dual GPU 1000 watt monster PC's with 3 monitors, to 21:9 displays, and 4K. Yet nothing I did made any significant difference. There was one last thing I had never tried a 144Hz monitor. I can now say that a monitor with a refresh rate over 60Hz, in my case a 144Hz monitor is the single most significant piece or hardware you can buy and what I was missing all along. My rounds and melee attacks now land first when confronting another player far more often than before. Sure there will always be people faster and more skilled than me who still dominate me in a game yet that has gone from over half the players on a server to handful. Instead of ranking in the bottom %50 of the scores I now am among the top %10-25 nearly every round. No other upgrade has done anything like this, not dual GTX 660ti's, dual R9 290x's or my current single GTX 970. Not a Samsung 850 Pro SSD, not an i7 4770K or my current i5 6600K have made any major difference while this monitor has! Whats most amazing is the general feel of smoothness and control I have over the character on the screen. Everything is so fluid and natural feeling compared to any other setup I have ran. Recently this has included a Samsung 28 inch 4k at 60Hz, an LG 24 inch at 60HZ, an LG 29 inch 21:9 at 60Hz, and even a Vizio 43 inch 4k TV at 60Hz over HDMI 2.0. The only complaint I have with this monitor is that the color is not as good as as the Samsung 28 inch and not nearly as good as the IPS panels I had grown accustomed to on the IPS LG 21:9 and the Vizio TV. Simply put this is a performance gaming monitor and it is affordable, if you are buying it for that purpose and do not have 600+ dollars to spend on a higher resolution 144Hz display you will not be disappointed one bit!

I bought this monitor during their Black Friday deals, and after powering up Destiny 2 I was appalled by what I saw. Terrain details were dull, didn't contrast well, especially for a 144hz monitor. When moving the terrain details would actually intensify, looking the way they were supposed to look, but as soon as I stopped moving they would render back to dull. In addition to this I would constantly see a white-ish outline around terrain objects whenever I would initially start to move, almost like a screen burn in, but it wasn't burn in (if that makes sense). Also, blacks weren't contrasting/rendering properly on distance objects without spending a lot of time configuring the proper settings. I spent all night Thursday, and all day Friday perusing forums, trying different setting configurations (including switching between Nvidia Control Color & Monitor control presets), and just generally trying to fix these issues. By Saturday morning I assumed I had just gotten a bad monitor, and had it exchanged for a new one. Got it home, and same thing. I decided to take it back and get a different 144hz monitor that was set-up and running beautifully in 15 mins. I'm still waiting for the other 2 ASUS monitors that I ordered during Early-access to show up so I can return them as well. Overall this monitor is AWFUL for high demand games. The colors were beautiful and vibrant, but the details and contrast issues were just too much. You shouldn't have to spend a day trying to make it work correctly. I was very disappointed after reading so many excellent reviews, however I notice the reviewers are playing low demand games like CS:GO & PUBG. Destiny 2, and high demand games like it, are obviously too demanding for this monitor.

    Beautiful quality monitor for gaming!

I am in love with this monitor! The image quality looks beautiful, the 144HZ is unreal and while gaming you REALLY do notice the difference between 60hz vs 144hz (night and day difference) The price is great, the 1ms response time is perfect for gaming, its great! Comes with all the necessary ports, DVI Cable (needed in order to output 144HZ, doesnt work with HDMI), HDMI Cable, and an Audio Cable (please read on as there is a major issue in regards to the audio) I only had this monitor for about a week, and i noticed an odd "STATIC NOISE" COMING FROM THE MONITOR WHILE SCROLLING WITH MY MOUSE. Furthermore, i noticed when i exceeded anything past 70 frame rate while playing a game (i.e. Destiny 2), i heard a MAJOR LOUD NOISE coming from the monitor, initially i thought my PC was giving me issues, or perhaps the monitor is just busted, nope, turns out, all you need to do is LOWER THE MONITORS SOUND VIA ITS ON-SCREEN MENU, restart the monitor and it COMPLETELY ELIMINATED BOTH ISSUES. This issue really, really caused me a lot of headache, but I'm glad i worked around it. Despite the annoyance of not being able to use this monitors speaker (by lowering the volume, it eliminated the issue, but on the other hand, i cant hear audio, which isn't all that bad because regardless most people who game on monitors use headphones so, no harm no foul) I'm in love with the image quality and how responsive the monitor is. Hope I've helped.

The VG248QE is primarily a gaming monitor, and in that respect it's very good. This monitor has a fast 144hz refresh rate, provided you use the DVI connection. If you use Displayport or HDMI, then you only get a 60hz refresh rate. It's also uses a TN panel, which is good for speed, but not so good for image quality and viewing angles. If you're used to an IPS panel, then the image quality of the VG248QE will not impress you in the least, if you're used to TN panels, then you'll find the image quality to be on par with what you're used to. The factory calibration settings are bad, really bad. You will want a custom ICC profile, several of which are available if you look for them online, and even then you'll need to to some manual fine tuning as well. Once you get that sorted, you'll end up with a display that is average to a little better than average for a TN panel monitor. As I mentioned before, this a gaming monitor and gaming is what it does best. If you're used to the standard 60hz monitors you will notice how smooth everything is, assuming you have the GPU horsepower to push the frame rates into triple digits. The stand is nice and moves up/down, side to side, and allows for portrait mode as well. I can't comment on the built in speakers, but most people who would consider this monitor will likely have a much more robust sound setup. Until 120+hz IPS panels hit the mainstream scene, this one of the best gaming monitors you can get. Also, on a side note, this is the first monitor that will accept Nvidia's G-Sync upgrade. Which could prove to be desirable in the next few years.

I did about a month of research on 144hz monitors until I finally made the dive to this one. I had heard and heard and heard that going from 60hz to 144hz for gaming is life changing. I was skeptical about how much of a difference it could be. I mean 1080p @ 60FPS always seemed "beyond good enough" for me. Boy was I wrong. VERY wrong. The second I plugged this monitor in I was blown away with the responsiveness just by dragging things on the screen. Fast forward to jumping into my first game of Rainbow Six and Fornite, my goodness. My aim increased, my flicks were landing more, my movement was just so crisp and clean it is a completely different experience FOR THE BETTER. More about the monitor. It is as well built and as sturdy as you could ask for. I has a nice 180 degree swivel as well as being able to flip the entire screen vertical for a vertical image. The packaging was everything you want for an expensive piece of equipment. Make sure you DO NOT USE HDMI cable if you want the 144hz experience. Thankfully this monitor comes with a Dual Link DVI cable (which supports 144hz) so you are good to go right out of the package. The on-screen colors fresh out of the box we're sub-par but a few google searches and you can find the profile most gamers recommend for this monitor. This monitor isn't cheap, but boy is it worth EVERY penny. Look no further ya'll, this is a no brainier purchase.

For those of you that wanted a 144 Hz/1ms delay monitor for a good price, this monitor does the job. Please keep in mind that out of the box it does not come with a display port/DVI-dual link cable, so you will need to buy those as well if you want to reach 144 refresh rate. As other reviews said the monitor does have washed out colors, I used the settings below (courtesy of Reddit) which helped it a lot. Settings: -Theater mode -Contrast = 83 -Saturation = 42 -Color temp = user mode with all three set to 83 -Skin tone = natural -Sharpness = 50 -Trace Free = 40 -ASCR = On Getting 144 Hz on Windows 10: Also note the monitor will default to 60 Hz out of the box, even with a new cable. To change this on Windows 10 (with creators update) go to display settings, click display adapter properties, and then click the monitor tab and select the refresh rate you want. (if you have more than 1 monitor make sure to have the right one selected before trying to change the settings). Overall, for the price, its a good monitor, arrived quickly and in good condition. Will probably buy a second one to replace my other monitor, Overwatch looks great on it.

I bought this to get me through my next year of game until I can afford a full upgrade on my pc. So as far as the monitor goes the pros and cons are as follows: Pros: Lightweight and easy to set up 144hz for the gamers delight 1080p crisp at viewing distance Has every type of plugin you need for modern setups (dvi *the only way you can breech the 60fps limit btw*, display port, and hdmi 3.0) Colors are fantasic right outnof the box but can be adjusted to your liking Buttons on the bottom of the panel for easy menu surfing One button setting swap for movies, games, photo mode and more Height adjust and tilt with horizontal and vertical swivel Cons: While 144hz is awesome especial for the price tag, most games and video get some screen tearing so it's best to just use adaptive vsync and cap the frames at 120fps. Warning the dvi cable that goes to it is only 3ft so hopefully that is long enough for your needs Wish it had lazer beams attached to it's fricken head ;-) The headset jack dims the audio by nearly half and muffles a bit not a biggie as I just use the one on the back of my case. Conclusion: Would recommend to anyone into competitive gaming on pc as it has given me a nice edge with the smooth motion of higher frames. Good product for the price and best buy sells it cheaper than newegg and frys.
