The August Smart Lock was easy to install. It works well with Siri HomeKit and Alexa. I find the Apple Watch app finicky as to when it wants to work. I have been able to lock and unlock successfully using Siri through the Apple Watch. I especially like the auto lock feature. The only advice I can give is if you have to remove the device from your door for any reason, make sure you remove a couple of the batteries to power it down before you reattach to your lock. If you don’t, it will tell you the lock is jammed. I discovered that when I had to get my door refinished.

Although skeptical, after several weeks, I find the AUGUST smart lock to be just what we needed. Note that there may be occasions when your door does not line up properly with the dead bolt. This will take time to adjust; (weather conditions also attribute to the door 'sticking'. Note it is NOT the unit. once you have identified the correct sleeve which adjusts to your existing unit, you are on your way. the app works great. BE MINDFUL that if you do not have your phone with you and decide to go out of the door, well, you may be looking for another way back inside if you have the auto lock on feature on. Overall, very pleased with this unit. Works well with Alexa. Did not use the screws to mount the sensor. If you use only the adhesive sticker that comes with the unit, it should be sufficient if you are concerned with putting holes into the door frame. Nice feature is that from the outside the existing hardware remains the same so you are able to maintain the original key lock.

Setup was remarkably easy, made more challenging by myself not measuring anything. I should’ve looked at the size of the lock to ensure it would fit, instead I ended up having to Dremel out some metal siding on the door to get the unit flush and allow the wings to close. Entirely on me and not necessarily a fault of the device.

I bought this model because it is Apple HomeKit compatible. It was really easy to install. I have a new Schlage deadbolt but there were other options which looked easy too. Set up through the August app on my phone was quick and dare I say it again, easy. It works as advertised. So far I just use it to Auto Unlock as I approach the door. I didn’t need that before but very handy in a condo. It’s cool unlocking for other people too when needed.

I have purchased two, one for my sister and one for my self. I took a little longer time before I write this review, because I can discover more issues. So far the August smart lock gave me no issues and it's a great product. Before I install anything, I always go on YouTube to search and watch DIY of installation on any of products. I have installed August Smart Lock Pro+ for about a month now and the only issue I have is one error message. To warn me the lock has an locking issues, I make the deadbolt lock plate adjustment on the door frame and it works perfectly now. I took a little time to install the magnetic sensor inside the deadbolt lock insert plate by the door frame. I want to make a better look instead drill two screws holes and a sensor sticking outside the door frame. Please see the two pictures I attached. The only downside is if you decide to use the auto function to lock your door, please make sure you either have a key or your phone with you. Otherwise you will be lock outside of your home while door is closed. I found out if you want to open the door for someone else while away from your home, you will have to refresh the app before you can do so. That I don't like, otherwise it's a great product.

I purchased this August smart lock pro connect and it is one of my favorite "smart" home purchases! It will automatically lock when you close the door at different preset intervals. It can tell you if the door is ajar. You can remotely access the status of the door being locked or unlocked from anywhere so if you forgot to lock it you can lock it via the August app. It has geo fencing that will automatically unlock the door when you pull in your driveway and it connects or recognizes you are back on your home or work wifi network. You can send a digital key to anyone such as an electrician or heat and air service tech to allow them access to go in for repairs and you can lock or unlock it at any given time from the August app should family or guests arrive at your home.It also works with Amazon Alexa and you can ask Alexa to check the status of your front door and ask Alexa to "lock the front door". This August smart pro connect lock is one of the best investments I have made! I highly recommend it to anyone!!!

With my main entrance on the second floor thru a narrow stairwell I often find myself struggling to unlock the door with my hands full. The August Smart Lock would’ve been my saving grace, however that is not the case. I purchased the latest version with the connect module got them installed in a matter of moments and was elated with my newfound ability to lock / unlock the door with my phone. Set the auto lock to 30 seconds and headed out the door locks oh what joy, I continue down the stairs into the car and receive push notice that the lock was in away mode and would unlock upon my return pure joy. So of course I go on a shopping spree relieved that my entry would be keyless. Return home gather up way too much stuff head upstairs go to open door and it’s LOCKED. Reverted back to haphazardly setting stuff on wet landing to retrive my archaic key for entry. Determined I reinstalled the properly installed lock, checked signal at three locations placing Connect unit at best one and headed out. Door lock and unlocked this began the 50/50 phase with lock operating sparadically. Went to website impossible to speak with human was escalated by computer. It has been 3 days with no response all the while the lock functions at 30% success-unacceptable for such a simple task.

Pros: • Installation easy done within 15-20 mins • Work right out of the box • App works great • Assigning access …no problem • Remote access works great • When I get to my door, didn’t need key…just open automatically • Able to see who’s going in and out of my house Cons: • Connecting to wifi could be better. Use lower frequency wifi than your 5g. • if your door isn't perfectly aligned, the lock will fail

I've been looking for some kind of smart lock for some time now. August Smart Lock Pro was the only one that met my main criteria. My main problem is that my wife will open the front door but forgets to lock it afterwards. The August Lock solves that problem, and allows me plenty of flexibility. I had considered Yale locks as they were highly recommended by co-workers. I have Schlage locks all around my house and as far as I could tell, I couldn't re-key the Yale lock to the Schlage key. So I considered the Schlage Sense/Connect. Unfortunately, they didn't look to support Bluetooth entry without third party products (like an Apple TV) and the programming just seemed too cumbersome. August locks, in general, seem to address all of these issues quite easily. Installation begins by installing the August app on your mobile device. It walks you through the steps to remove the old thumbturn, install the August backplate, selecting the right adapter for your brand's deadbolt tailpiece, installation of the August Smart Lock, installation of the doorsense module and then calibration of the system. They really thought of everything, even including a piece of tape to hold the exterior lock in place. Once installed, the Auto-Lock feature was very easy to setup and allows you to change the amount of idle time before it Auto Locks. While there is an Auto-Unlock feature, I tried it for a few days and decided it wasn't for me. This feature is dependent on your phone connecting to your home wifi network. Most of the time, I enter the house through my garage, so the front door lock unlocks unnecessarily. This August Smart Lock Pro + Connect package includes the August Connect device which allows wifi devices access to the August Lock. For instance, I have my Echo Dot and my Google Home Mini able to check on the lock status and lock the door. The Echo Dot goes a step further and allows me to unlock via voice command with a security pin, but the Google Home Mini is not able to (yet). While I can give other people access to my lock via Bluetooth invitations, I opted to purchase the August Keypad accessory. It's simple to set up and allows me to give out unique PINs to my family members. This is also helpful since not all members of my family have a phone. If not for the August Keypad, an outsider really cannot tell you have a Smart Lock device installed. I find that to be a nice feature. It allows me the convenience of a smart lock but does not flaunt technology to an outsider. If I were forced to name a couple flaws, I would pick on the August Connect device. It is supposed to be plugged into a wall outlet within 30 feet (15 feet optimally) from the smart lock. I considered another August lock for the door to my garage. If I do get one, I probably will not have the August Connect features available. I just can't see the point of purchasing another August Connect device for a secondary door. Another flaw, when using a physical key, the key is harder to turn because you have to overcome both the deadbolt and August Lock mechanics. It's not an issue for my family, but it could be an issue for people with arthritis. The August Smart Lock Pro is larger than I expected. We joke that it's a tuna can on our door. Surprisingly, it is the same diameter of a Starkist Tuna Can (I just checked) and is just shy of two tuna cans deep. Operationally, you rotate the knurled outer ring one way to unlock and the opposite way to lock. For further integration into my budding smart home system, I connected the August Smart Lock Pro to my SmartThings hub. This is done via Z-Wave connection. The process is straighforward and I was up and running pretty quickly. The main functions of lock/unlock and battery level are immediately available in the SmartThings app. I happened to purchase this package while on sale. The sale price brings it in line with competing products. I would recommend this product even without the sale price. I think its features bring it far beyond the competing products. As for solving my main problem, I found it easier to pay the money for this August Smart Lock Pro than to re-program my wife to lock the door (aka Pick Your Battles). ;-)

The product is great and works as advertised. Can lock and unlock with Alexa or Google and remotely which is great. It's easy to install but you have to be sure that your dead bolt works smoothly and without catching before you install the August system. The motor is not strong enough to push the deadbolt if the deadbolt rubs on the striker plate. ALSO - BEWARE - IN DOORS THAT HAVE GLASS AND/OR A NARROW FRAME THIS LOCK MAY NOT FIT. IT MAY HIT THE TRIM OR ANY METAL WORK YOU HAVE ON YOUR DOOR. PLEASE MEASURE THE AREA WHERE THE DEADBOLT IS INSTALLED TO BE SURE IT IS WIDE ENOUGH FOR THIS LOCK SYSTEM. YOU MAY NEED TO PURCHASE THE OTHER AUGUST MODEL WHICH IS NARROWER. JUST SAYING! I ENDED UP USING THIS LOCK ON TWO OF MY DOORS BUT BOTH BACK DOORS REQUIRED THE NARROWER LOCK SYSTEM OR I WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE OR CUT THE TRIM WHICH WOULD REQUIRE A FAIRLY SUBSTANTIAL REWORK OF THE DOOR. IF FOR ANY REASON I REMOVED THE LOCK IT WOULD REQUIRE ANOTHER REWORK OF THE DOOR. OTHER THAN THAT THIS LOCK SYSTEM IS THE BOMB AND WORKS GREAT.

This is a great smart home addition. I purchased this to be able to let people in my house when I am not there but it has really added piece of mind for my wife. With just an app she can check and see if the door is locked while in bed. And with Alexa/Google Home/HomeKit integration you can set up a scene where the door locks automatically. It has been a great addition to my smart home and is super easy to install. I really like that my key will still work with it as well.

This is a retrofit model that's made to replace just the inside half of your existing deadbolt. It doesn't change the outside of the door at all. We put this on our vacation rental house on Lake Keowee. It was easy to install mechanically; we didn't have to alter the door or frame in any way. It's attractive and easy to use. Did have to use customer service to help with getting it to hook up to wifi and function, though. Note that it requires an electrical outlet within 10 ft of the door in order to plug in the "connect" gadget that communicates with the lock and your wifi source. Would be perfect if it just allowed personal entry codes to be assigned to every user, but we were trying to find a lock that didn't force us to do carpentry work on the door or change its looks.

This product allows consumers to use their existing locks and it is simple to install/ setup. I have been impressed with the product since version one which is why I became a vendor. I bought this from Best Buy only because by some fluke they were selling it cheaper than I could get it direct from the manufacturer. Most electronic locks at the consumer level are cheaply made Grade 3 or 2, (3 being the worse). The August Smart lock allows consumers to continue using their commercial Grade 1 or High Security locks (with a certified locksmiths help), and still get all the benefits of electronic features. I no longer have to tell my clients, "sorry but you will have to downgrade your security to take advantage of the Smart features available, or you can spend thousands more to secure your home with commercial electronic solutions". While it is true that the August add-on products are built with plastic parts they don't compromise the integrity of the original lock in anyway. I use one on my own front door with a Grade 1 deadbolt and so far I have not had any issues unless you count the few times I locked myself out due to forgetting my phone or key. The problem has been easily solved by adding on the wireless keypad that August offers. The only reason I rated 4 stars is due to the price. Honestly it's a lot to pay to add convenience to a cheap G2 or 3 lock when consumers can just buy a full lock with electronics built-in. If you already have an investment in G1 commercial locks or are looking to upgrade your security, the August solution is a great compliment to higher end locks. I also appreciate all the features of the free app which allows to automatically lock when I leave and unlock the door when I return.

For the price, I had my doubts. But my family and I absolutely love this lock, especially with the Doorsense. Of course, the remote monitoring is nice, but this product is so universal: not only does it work with almost every lock, it's compatible with HomeKit, Alexa, etc. With Z-Wave, the product is also future-ready. App, HomeKit, and Alexa also work really consistently, and I've never had any issues with this lock. The design of the lock is also very nice: it's simple and blends in well with the door.

I was looking for a smart lock that would (1) automatically unlock when I return home so that I don’t have to fumble with keys, a fob, a phone, or anything else to unlock it, (2) still offer the option of unlocking/locking via a traditional key, just in case all else fails. This lock fit the bill. If you already have a traditional deadbolt in your door then the installation is extremely easy. I’ve found that the August app works very well. It is effectively able to detect when I or any other member of my household arrives home and unlock the door. One thing to consider is how to lock the door when you leave. Using traditional key is an option (but sort of defeats the point). Door can be set to auto lock (which is a cool feature if it fits your workflow but for me is just a great way to eventually lock myself out of my house). Currently, I typically use voice commands via Siri. This is effective and so far seems generally convenient; however, I may purchase the August keypad in the future which I believe offers one-button locking. I’ve found the ability to lock/unlock via third-party automations to be somewhat limited (assuming this is for security reasons). For example, you can trigger lock action via Apple HomeKit, but not IFTTT. On the other hand, ability to trigger other actions (ie turn on lights) when door is unlocked/locked seems to be robustly supported by other systems.

Got this for 140$ down from 260 right before the newest one came out. I do not regret for the price. It is a bit bulkier than the new one, and goes through batteries in about 2-3 months in reality if you use your door a lot. The auto lock feature is cool but kills the battery on your phone. Love it otherwise. Easy to install.

We reviewed multiple locks before deciding to purchase the August lock. It is awesome coming home and having the lock automatically unlock so I don't have to fumble for keys to get in the house (especially when I'm carrying groceries)! I'm still working on having it automatically lock when I leave, but not all the time so I cant work in the yard without taking my phone with me. But I'm convinced that's a user failure. I would definitely purchase the lock again. I can also say it is much easier to unlock by hand on the inside with my arthritic hands; that was an added bonus for us.
