Customers are delighted by the EOS R6's exceptional image quality, impressive low-light performance, and remarkably fast autofocus, frequently praising its ease of use and lightweight design. However, some users have reported issues with overheating, particularly during extended video recording, and shorter than expected battery life. A few also mentioned the camera's higher price point.

EOS R6 vs 5D Mark IV

This is an "upgrade" from a 5D Mark IV if video is your priority.
5D Mark IV was released in 2016
EOS R6 released in 2020
The EOS R6 loses the additional top LCD display, but gets a flippable screen and does 10bit 4K at 60 with H264 codec vs MJPEG (5D Mark IV only does 4K at 30)
5D Mark IV has 30.4MP
R6 has 20.1 MP
Higher mega pixels isn't everything.

While you technically can use this camera for commercial work, I feel like it's more geared for portraits and travel. It has overheated on me on summer days when temps reach 90+ when shooting 4K60. Typically can shoot for 1-2 hours before I get an overheat warning.
Overall I do love this camera. It's quiet and the dynamic range is surprisingly good. I'm always impressed when bringing back shadows in my images.

I am loving this new camera. It took some getting used to and I know there is still lots to learn, but I used it at a wedding and loved the immediate feed back I was able to get from this camera. Easy to use, great quality, love the fact that you can see what the picture will look like before you take it!

This is my 2nd R6 as my wife enjoys shooing with this one as well, I had to go buy my own again. This has been an impressive camera in speed, clarity, ease of use, functions. I have three different RF lenses I use with this camera and this R6 has been incredible every time I go out an shoot.

So far, so good! I had noticed the volleyball photos I was taking inside a high school gym were dark and it was taking a while for my lens to find focus. I toyed the idea of getting a new lens but lenses are expensive and I wasn't sure it would solve my problem. I already had two mirrorless Canon cameras so I thought I'd try another, especially since I had the adapter already.Unfortunately, high school sports isn't in session yet for me to try it out at the gym, but I've played with the camera a few times and I do like! I was surprised and how much better some swimming photos turned out. I'm very hopeful that it provides equal success in the dark gyms as well. The only downside so far that I've noticed is that the .jpg coloring is slightly different than my previous Canon cameras. The raw file is fabulous but not the jpg. It could be user error if I need to adjust the settings but take this with a grain of salt!l

Make the switch to mirrorless

After switching one camera to the R6, I had to go ahead and make the total switch. The weight difference alone is amazing - and the camera is so fast and produces beautiful images. I love the functionality - a total game changer for photographers. The R6 is great for weddings and portraits. The only warning is around battery life - if you use all the features and functions with the view finder and screenshooting, then it will eat into the battery more- so wedding photographers, invest in more batteries, But it's totally worth it.

AMAZING auto focus when photographing people. It makes me feel more confident when I’m capturing weddings because I know my shots will be in focus. The only concern I have is sometimes the camera freezes and the only solution is to take the battery out and then re-insert it which is stressful. I’m not sure what causes it.

I do a lot of sports photography and was looking for something within my budget that would be good for lower light settings. The R6 has been great in low light. I already had an 80D so was familiar with the controls etc. I also purchased the EF to RF adapter so I could still use my lenses. No complaints!

First new camera I’d ever gotten after learning to use mirrorless as a second shooter at weddings and it was so easy to get the hang of and master! Literally picked it up and adjusted to my preferred settings a day before I second shot a wedding and you’d never know it was my first time using it!
Love every little thing about it!

I absolutely love this camera. 2 words. Game changer. The focus is extraordinary. The tough screen focus is convenient. The crispness of the shots will blow your mind. (And im still using EF lenses with it)
All around the only thing that has been a con is adjusting the color post process. Im assuming it is more user error and reprogramming MY process more than the camera fault. That being said it has been more difficult to adjust post process if you don’t get your color right in camera. If you do. It’s a breeze.
You won’t regret this upgrade if you are already a canon user
