I have been a huge fan of previous Canon laser B&W multifunction printers in the past, so I was excited to upgrade to this model, and really wanted to like it. The upside: the print quality is great. That’s where it stops. There are so many things that are NOT an improvement with this model over the previous three printers we’ve owned. 1) it is crazy loud. 2) very confusing setup that I still don’t have ironed out. I’m having to choose the print tray every print! The old ones would default to the tray unless something was placed on the multi-format feeder. This one could do that, but it doesn’t. At least I haven’t figured that out yet. 3) Multi-format feeder is single-sheet! Old one was multi-sheet. If you try to use multiple sheets, this one will pull them in and then jam. Then the computer will continually think it is jammed even after the jam is fixed. You have to restart the computer for it to print again. 4) wireless printing still not figured out yet. We are using a cord. I’m quite disappointed in the “improvements” that Canon has done in the past 15 years.

Love this printer! Laser printer is so much better than inkjet which is what I replaced. This prints really fast and the quality is great. It is a bit loud when it starts up but that doesn't really bother me. For the price, this printer is great!

I think this is one of the best LaserJet printers that I have bought for the price. A little heavier than my old inkjet. Does require at least two people to lift it. Works well iwith remote devices and the display is clear and easy to read. Printing is Crisp and Sharp.

Had the printer about a month and quite happy with it. Prints clearly, Apple AirPrint works great with Phones, iPads and Laptop / Desktop Macs. Done a little scanning and that works well.
Have not had the issue some mentioned waking from sleep mode - though I did following this advice when I setup the printer (haven't tried shutting off the power save option so can't say if it is necessary)
Q: I heard some of the older models had issues with waking from sleep via wifi and causing users to have to physically do so. Did they fix this issue?
A: I had the same concern and for at least a 1/2 a day I spent time trying to search for the fix, as the printer (MF656cdw) was disconnecting from the WIFI in the house when it went into auto-sleep mode. Researching the Internet or Canon's support site didn't help until I found it buried in a very convoluted detail in the extended online manual.
When you're setting the WIFI network using the touch screen, after typing in the password, you'll see a message at the bottom that says "connection set". if you tap that, you'll get a couple of extra options including the Power Save option, which defaults to on. If you turn this off, it should stay on the network and wake the printer when you send a print job to it. This allows the rest of the printer to sleep (which is important for a laser printer to do when not in use).

I am amazed at the quality of this printer at the price point. Color printing is fantastic, even on regular copy paper, easy to setup for wireless, and scanning and copying are great for any small business.

This was such a better purchase than replacing my inkjet with another inkjet. First, the printheads don't dry out from lack of use. Second, while the toner is expensive, it seems like it will last much longer than inkjet toner (more pages printed). Set up was fairly easy. My one complaint is that it came with a part that wasn't explained in the manual. It took a little searching on the internet, but I finally found it's a dust cover for extending the paper cassette for legal paper.
I'm happy with the purchase, and I recommend it.

Needed something for remote work, and it fit the bill. Works well, is easy to use, and the toner, especially for the XL cartridge is affordable. Surprisingly quiet as well.

Please NOTE:
1). To this date (05/16/25), the Best-Buy (BB) product (Canon Printer/Copier) that I bought is fine and is performing well while I am still learning all the details of its functionality.
2). It is important to know that the BB-Customer-Service (BB-CS) Professionals are fantastic, ready to help at any time!
3). Please keep on performing, as economic profitability of Business depends on the efficiency of both the producing workforce force (supplying the goods) and the Customers (demanding the goods), as well as the commercialization relationship between the Customers and the Merchants (more fundamentally). Thank you, BB store!.

We used to use dot matrix printers for their inexpensive color output. But then I found the Canon imageClass printers which have so much better color output and surprisingly cheaper per page cost. It's also a lot faster and the Canon ink is a lot less expensive than using HP inks.

I love my printer! I originally bought this because I was homeschooling my son and I printed a lot of worksheets. I use it for making copies as well. The setup is very simple. I love the easy use of the touchscreen. It is very heavy so I would suggest 2 people. Ink lasts a long time. I for sure printed over 500 pages before having to change just the black ink.

Setup is very easy and quick. It just took me 5mins max. Its very well packaged and is bit heavy when compared to similar class inkjet models. But works very reliably and the print quality is very good. Its bit slow in printing but i guess its expected for the class of printer. For most the printing speed won't matter at all. I wish the cost of replacement cartridges are not so expensive. Cost of replacing the cartridges will be more then the actual printer.

The Canon MF654Cdw is a solid color printer. The speed and reliability are essential for my daily tasks. It always produces high quality prints, crisp text, vibrant visuals making it perfect for my print jobs. I have had no issues with connecting via WiFi and it prints fast. I never have to worry about paper being wet like my previous injet printer.
