Great price. I intended to use it to backup my workstation, but the backup speed (write speed) was very slow, actually slower than some hard drives. Returned it. It would have been fine if I was using it to mostly read rather than write data.

    Terrible Product with Awful Speeds

The listed speeds are completely misleading - sure, right when you begin transferring a large file, you’ll get 500Mb/s+… but after about 10GB has transferred, the speed absolutely tanks to slower than an HDD. Tried with multiple cords on multiple computers, and had the same problem. Multiple other users have reported similar issues. This product is ultimately a scam.

Slows down to 50MBPS transfers after first 1TB. Reformatted the drive in all configurations just to test and now, even after a fresh format, did not transfer above 50MBPS. Purchased this to replace a mechanical HD for better transfer speeds and am left with something slower. Very disappointed indeed.

I had this drive for less than two months, and it suddenly failed (no power). It will cost me about what I paid for it, so I will get a different brand. Fortunately, I was using for a backup, so I still have all my data elsewhere.

Lasted maybe 6 months before there was a short on the motherboard that made it unusable without spending much more than what it cost have it repaired. I have heard others have complained about the component failures on Crucial devices.

I bought it less than two months ago and it doesn't work, my imac doesn't read it and when it reads it it says that the files are damaged, the crucial page won't let me register it. It's the worst hard drive I've ever bought.

False advertising. Once you fill up about 1/4 of the space on these drives, transfer speeds begin to slow down dramatically, even slower than 7200 rpm drives. Not worth it at all. Get a Samsung.

Let’s start with the most obvious - and this is likely going to echo many other reviews - but this thing is incredibly compact. It’s hard to believe 4TB of data can actually fir into such a small form factor. This is going to be the first thing anyone who owns one of these notices as they open the package, and by far the most surprising aspect for myself. I was actually afraid I might lose this due to its size. This easily fits just about anywhere. To go along with the small size - this portable storage drive is astonishingly light. So much so that I had concerns surrounding the durability. However, the build quality is solid and those concerns were quickly alleviated. To be honest though, due to the compact size and extreme lightness, I find myself being cautious in my handling of the device - which isn’t a bad thing. In my review I am not running speed tests and giving you all the “technical numbers”. If you want those you can certainly find other reviews and even visit Crucial’s site. My review looks at this from a practical, everyday user standpoint. In the box you will find the SSD, USB-C cable, and a one page information sheet. You can order a USB-C to USB-A adapter but it is not included as part of the standard packaging. I was supposed to receive the USB-C to USB-A adapter, however that never arrived. So all of my use and testing has been done utilizing the USB-C to USB-C connection. I used and tested this SSD on the following devices: + iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) running iPadOS 14.5.1 + MacBook Air + Dell Inspiron 27” i7 w/ 12GB RAM running Windows 10 Connecting to each device was seamless. No issues or concerns. The SSD was recognized with each device right away. Writing to the SSD was rather quick, even with large single files and multiple files. Not having used a Crucial SSD before, I was not sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised on all three platforms. A 146.8MB transfer which included multiple high-resolution photos and 4K 60fps video clips taken from iPhone 12 Pro was completed in mere seconds. A standard HD full length movie (65m duration) uploaded in right at one minute. Now I’m sure you may find drives that are faster, or reviewers who could nit pick at some technical level jumbo jumbo. As I said earlier - this is a real world user review. So let me just say, uploads are fast - pleasingly fast. What about read speeds? Again, no technical jargon here. Everything I uploaded - files, photos, movies, programs - all uploaded perfectly, quickly and were able to be used just as fast. Was it identical to the read speeds on my device’s onboard SSDs? Not quite - but close. I could pick out the smallest of delays when reading from the Crucial SSD versus my device drives. But that is NOT to say it lagged or was clunky. Opening and closing multiple file types and quickly moving between those files was just as impressive as the upload speeds to the device. Switching the Crucial SSD between devices showed no issues. I really can’t find anything to be unhappy about with the Crucial SSD. You get a TON of storage in a very compact form factor, portability, solid build quality, excellent read / write speeds, excellent device compatibility - including gaming consoles. What more does the everyday user want to need? This is an excellent external SSD with a lot to like. I would absolutely recommend this device to anyone.

Tiny portable 4TB solid state drive

I'm not kidding when I say this drive is TINY, it measures about 2 1/2 inches square and is only a quarter of an inch thick. It does not need a power cord, just the USB cable it comes with. The USB cable is designed for USB-C (newer devices), you can either get it with an adapter for older USB or purchase one separately. I tried it on my wife's laptop, which has USB-C and it's very fast. On my laptop, I used the adapter, so it wasn't quite as fast, but still faster than older external hard drives. 4TB is an amazing amount of storage for a drive this small, making it perfect for travel or tucking away in a secure place for backup (safe deposit box, safe, etc).
