I’ve only owned this for a relatively short time. But, I’ve had an opportunity to copy pictures and videos to and from a couple of different computers using my new Crucial backup drive. It’s plenty fast. Furthermore, I did some “Windows searches.” They, too, were quick! I’m familiar with the quality of Crucial products; but, I jumped at this when this 2 TB version was priced at just slightly more than 1 TB products.

This external SSD has been working well for me. I have used it to store pictures, movies, and games. It has a fast read/write speed, so it is even possible to play games directly from it. I also appreciate that this particular model includes a USB-C/USB-A adaptor so it is more flexible in terms of USB port usability.

I compulsively collect images, music, and movies like a madman without any self control, and after my 1tb portable SanDisk SSD decided after a month and a half to completely die, down to and including the actual m.2 inside the casing, I decided to try out the X8. And I'm glad I did; this thing is an absolute workhorse; the casing, being only rubberized on the top and bottom, gives the drive great thermals under stress, it's a super benign shape so you can fit it just about anywhere, performance is fantastic, and it's held up for four months straight without a single issue; no sector issues, no weird slowdown, no failure to be recognized from any computer, nothing. It just straight up works, and in a product category where others will do anything from die at random to leak thermal goop, that's an absolute blessing.

Works great on my xbox x as an external. Great for storing games, but you will not be able to play any games that are made for the xbox x only games, but you will be able to play older games that are not X games.

Pros: + Good heat management keeps temps relatively low. + Includes USB C-to-A adapter. Cons: - Write speed absolutely falls off a cliff once cache is full. (BTW: You don't need to take my word for this, it has been confirmed in professional technical reviews by sites such as Tom's Hardware.) If you do large transfers over 280GB expect its write speed to plummet down to ~50MBps. That was the average I repeatedly observed (after the 280GB write cache was exhausted) over the entire business day it took to backup another 2TB SSD to this one. This sort of task is a one-time affair and subsequent incremental syncs would be smaller thus probably not an issue if you can wait out the initial backup. But if you regularly transfer large amounts to this drive (e.g. video production, professional photographers, etc) this is definitely not the drive to pick. You can read the aforementioned review for much better options in these type scenarios. - Included cable is pathetically short. Guess what Crucial... 6 inches isn't enough to plug into the USB port of a typical desktop PC and then be able to sit the SSD on your desk. The cable is so short the drive would just dangle in mid-air = not good. What would it cost you (a few extra pennies in the huge volumes you do) to include a 12 inch cable?!?! - No activity light. Maybe not a big deal for some but when doing something like a huge transfer, which will take hours, it would be helpful to have a little LED to glance at and see if it's finished. Again, something that could have been included for mere pennies.

Got to say i was a little reserved trying this out for my ps5. But this works great no issues at all. Its super fast and easy to setup i Highly recommend this drive to ps5 owners or someone looking for a super fast ssd.. one Tip for ps5 is You need to take off The USB A adapter on the cord for the ps5 to see it and format it.. use the USB C

Compact, easy to use at a value price. My non-tech husband figured it out on his own. He primarily uses it to store his large movie collection in a portable format.

Pretty Good, Just Make Sure It's plugged into a USB 3 outlet at bare minimum otherwise it won't work well enough to play any game. Also may not be fast enough for certain newer games so make sure to check.
