I went with Dell because my previous laptop was of the same brand and it did not trouble me and helped me sail through undergrad. This time it was a Mac vs Windows choice for me but I went with Windows because of its better compatibility with enterprise software which would come handy in Grad School.
My initial purchase from Best Buy turned out to be faulty and had to be replaced, a process which was smooth overall. Been using the machine for over few days and it does all the basic stuff well. Even though it is i7 8th Gen and 16GB RAM, I don't think the processing and speed machine justifies it. Even the battery life is a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, it is bang for the buck just over 1000 bucks with the features it provides. Detailed review after extensive review after a month or so will be posted.

I bought this laptop in September of 2018 for my college use. I would say this laptop is amazing, the specs, only if you can have power connected to it 24/7. No issues for the whole 1 year but after the warranty expired the battery capacity dropped rapidly. My battery charge capacity has dropped from 35,105mWh to 16,963 mWh in just a 1.5-year time frame with moderate use. I have bought two of these models, and both facing the same problem at the same time. The battery drains in about 15 minutes if I'm using it in a classroom. A friend of mine has a laptop (different brand) which he bought at about the same time I did and has no issue with it, whereas I'm sitting close to the wall ports all the time with my charger out. I expected the battery to perform a little better and not dying this soon. I don't expect it to be the best, but at least get me through my classes.

two terabyte hard drive, very portable and light and comes in bright colors so it's easy to find on a messy desk. carrying case is high quality and durable, has elastic straps that keep it from opening all the way so when you unzip it, the hard drive doesn't tumble out. Big enough to fit the actual hard drive along with the cable and an extra USB thumb drive too. I now have reliable and portable data backup. very happy with my purchase.

I was looking to buy a powerful windows laptop and was considering a 8 gen cpu Dell XPS 13 with 512 PCI-e SSD and 16 gigs of ram. The XPS quickly jumps into the $1700 price range with those specs but a Inspiron 7000 with those exact specs (was on sale at the time also) was only $1170 after taxes, so I figured could try this out and if it was not as good as the XPS just would exchange, well quality build and performance wise it is just as good.
This laptop has a very steady aluminium build that is not slippery on the surface like some others, the hinges are rock solid, very stiff with no movement while typing. Screen is good also but no way near like a XPS 13 infinty or MacBook when it comes to the color dept, touch screen is very responsive along with the touch pad. Speakers are average, I just keep it on 100% while watching YouTube vids, typing experience is good and is back-lighted. Decent amount of ports for a ultrabook, 2 type A USB and SD card reader are getting tough to find these days!.
Boot time are 3-5 secs with Windows Hello face recognition enabled, very fast machine that outperforms 7th gen cpu by 40%. I video edited, photo edit and compiled code all were done very fast, even tried some gaming with the Doom and Dota 2, both can run on med settings.
fan noise is acceptable while doing heavy loads.
Con: Only getting around 6-7 hours realistic battery life (that's why only 4 stars) and no way to turn off adaptive dimming, bloatware program called SmartByte will reduce your WiFi speed if you choose to enable it.
In conclusion, if you need a powerful system then this is the best bang for your buck.

...this little lap top runs too hot and is louder than I'd like b/c the fan is working overtime to cool it down. Big thumbs down on that!

I've had several major computer issues recently, so I have had a Macbook Pro, HP Spectre, and now this Dell Inspiron within the past 8 months. Without getting into the Apple/Windows debate, this has been my favorite of the three.
Pros: great computer for the price - I got the specs I wanted for much cheaper than the other computers. You can use an SD card to increase storage if needed. The value was a priority for me, so this was a great fit.
This computer is easy to use and very fast. I run a lot of applications at one time, and it hasn't slowed down a bit.
I've had a few Microsoft related issues, but the computer itself has been great and I've had fewer software update/Microsoft compatibility issues than my HP had.
Quieter than the Spectre.
I have had no hardware or software issues with this computer and it seems to be very reliable so far (I've only had it about 2 months, however). Easy to use and the installed software support seems to be much better than HP.
Cons: I have had horrible experience with Dell customer service (related to Microsoft update issues, not this computer itself), and it was particularly miserable to communicate with them.
The other cons are all relatively small things -
It's a bit bulkier than the HP Spectre, but I'm guessing this is the price you pay for still having most of the ports you would want (this is a pro for me). I also saw complaints about how loud this computer is when the fan is on, and it's louder than my Mac but I actually find it to be much quieter than the Spectre.
The battery life is not ideal and definitely the worst of the 3 computers, although it hasn't been too limiting so far.
Lastly, this is a small thing, but the power cord is 3-pronged and you can't add an extension to the power block.
Overall, the pros are a much larger priority for me than the cons - would suggest this computer!

This laptop unit works well for me. It is light weight and functions really well. The only downside I have seen is the battery life. Might be a function of how lightweight it is. I think they have the right balance between weight and battery life.

This laptop comes with the 8550u i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. You also get a very responsive capacitive touch screen in a 2 in 1 laptop/tablet package. It might not be the highest end laptop in the market and it might have a subpar battery life, but value wise it is a great option.

As an Apple user the switch was a bit difficult but definitively you get way more bang for the buck with this computer than with an Apple computer and that touch screen is also really helpful. It’s fast and can run the programs I want and for a college computer is a pretty good choice because it’s also lightweight and small and can be carried around easily. The only annoying thing is having to deal with windows software, which is always giving you notifications and updating.

My kid liked it, it has enough juice to run their programs and more. it's 2in1 so it can be used as laptop and tablet. Has bluetooth and can be connected to phone. i think the price also was good when we bought it for same price of i5 with 8GB memory. and with student deals we got $50 discount :o) . over all we love it but i gave it 4 (not 5) just because the HDD is small to a laptop this powerful, it should have been at least 512 GB

So I purchased this for part-time office work. I find it is very fast and perfect size for travel. Love love the touch screen which I initially wasn't going to get. I know now I would have missed that feature for sure. The gray/silver color is beautiful and overall it very sleek. Best Buy set it up with virus package and office.
