nice laptop but a few issues

I bought this after reading the prior great reviews and looking at the laptop on display at best buy store. its a beautiful, sturdy design. nice keyboard where the backlight actually has good visibility. great sound (with headphones). however, I have 3 complaints: 1. the power button is located on the front right side. exactly where you would naturally grab a laptop to pick it up/ move it, etc. so I kept shutting it off every time id reposition it on the desk. worst placement for power button I have ever seen. 2. when doing anything even mildy graphic intensive, the fans come on rather loud and then begin to cycle between high and extra high speeds almost rhythmically. sounds like you are in a wind storm fast-slow-fast-slow-fast-slow. very loud and annoying with the speed shifting every 1 second. 3. using the HDMI output for HD monitor intermittently cuts out for a second or 2 when using graphics intensive things. I was playing a 2D browser based game and the external monitor would go black and lose sound every couple minutes, then pop right back on. the main laptop screen is ok, doesn't flicker. just the external HDMI line. bottom line. I'm not happy. my HP envy from 2 years ago did a better job with the video than this does. computer passes all diagnostic tests. so I assume design flaws? returning it 24 hours later for something better

    Some problems...

This computer is lightning fast for its class, however I have had nothing but issues with anything multimedia-related. The sound drivers don't appear to be compatible with Windows 10 (volume turns itself down and mutes itself), and there is an issue with anything graphics-related. When playing games, watching videos, or using audio software, the screen goes black yet remains backlit while the computer continues to run. Tech support has not been able to help me fix the problem, everything is up to date, the computer has even gone through a factory reset (made the issue worse). It's currently on its way to Dell for a motherboard replacement, although that is not the guaranteed problem, but so many issues for such a new computer has not made me very happy with this product. A quick Google search returns a lot of people struggling with the same issue, and there's never a solution for it, so I'm hoping Dell can fix it for me. Also, I'm not a big fan of the touchpad, as it requires a two-finger scroll to scroll up and down pages, and there is no option to change it to one-finger scroll. This gets very confusing when going back and forth between this and my HP laptop, or any other laptop I've ever had (never had the option of two-finger scroll). Other than this, the computer really is fast, and isn't super loud... it's sleek and attractive, and I love the keyboard. It only has two USB ports, which can be an issue if you're needing to plug in a lot of extras or an external mouse and keyboard. But when the graphics actually run without going to a black screen, they are crisp and smooth.

This would have been the second one of this model for us but unfortunately its got some issues. Different batch from the one we bought first so I'm guessing they changed hard drive manufacturers or something. It was constantly using 100% Disk Usage. Now there is an error in windows 10 that can cause this but I went through all the trouble shooting steps for it and none fixed it. So I figured ok maybe something wrong with this unit. Exchanged it for a new one. By the way Best Buy you need better coverage at the customer service desk. Got the new one home and it had the same issue. Tried to use Dells trouble shooting service to see if anything could be done by them. They tried for a couple hours and couldn't get any results. They wanted me to wait for them to ship replacement parts to me to switch out but I wasn't about to do that when it was a gift for someone. "Sorry this was broken out of the box but Dell wanted me to wait on new parts to come. So maybe we can use it next week sometime." Sorry Dell but that doesn't work for me. Now I will say by time I got a higher up Dell rep he was more understanding of that part. Hopefully they figure it out its a decent laptop when working correctly.

After just a couple of weeks over the return period. the hard drive started throwing SMART errors. A quick call to Dell confirmed that, yes, it was indeed under warranty, but, no, they couldn't just ship me the replacement. Two weeks lost there with no computer. Other big problem I've found with it is that you essentially can't use it with an external monitor. It has both HDMI & USB-C/DisplayPort capability, and it DOES work - if you don't mind cooking your system. Unless you're doing very simple browsing and use both a cooling pad and something like an Opolar cooler, it quickly gets so hot that the external screen starts resetting every few minutes. Even with all that cooling forget about doing anything graphics intensive with an external screen connected. At least the built-in panel operates flawlessly. All in all I'd say it's a good thing Dell has discontinued this dog. There's much better systems out there for the money.

The computer had issues with freezing and connectivity. I took it to the Geek Squad at the store and he had no suggestions or help. Other than it is enviromental issue. I have 2 other computers, none of which had any issues at all. In fact I have 2 work from home jobs that require stellar internet connectivity. No issues on any other computer. I will also mention that these issues occurred when no other computers were connected to the internet or even in use. The freezing issue was not internet related but happened during use offline. I returned the computer and purchased an HP that was not a 2 in 1 elsewhere. Since purchasing the HP computer I have heard that 2 in 1s have these issues. I found out the hard way. I am happy with my new HP laptop and I have had zero issues using the new computer. Which also proves it was not environmental. I would not recommend this computer. Too many issues.

    Nothing reliable about Dell

I actually didn't get my Dell until the December around the 19th. The app says November but that is when I got the 1st one. It took 3 to finally figured out the others were crashing because because these and millions of others were defaulting on updates to Microsoft other computers and the internet. This was the default so one had to go deep into updates to find how the computer was getting updates and change it from the default setting to a much safer way which didn't include the internet. By this time I was not allowed to get the Geek squad and 10 months later the keyboard went out. Needless to say I will never buy another Dell.

Upon purchasing the laptop I continuously experienced my files "not responding" when ai tried to save them. I was told by geek dquad that this is somewhat normal bc although it is a fast laptop, it has moving parts and the drive can lock up at times. For the very very simple excel spreadsheet i was working on - and the fact that i did not have a bunch of other applications open, this was unacceptable to me, so i returned it

Though the laptop looks great but it has only one CPU which makes the initial loading and overall performance very slow. Also, the wifi disconnects frequently. The tablet mode is by default locked and we thought the feature was not working. However, on research we went to the action center and enabled it. The battery drains out quickly as well. Overall, for a $1050 laptop, Dell should have thought better.

The laptop is an excellent laptop for school and gaming. The only issue I had was 28 days after I bought the laptop it could not find the hard drive to boot from. It was after a Dell update everything failed after that. It erased the factory image, and any backups I had. Brought it in and Best Buy swapped it for a new one. Great customer service.

I bought this because I read the screen would be good for photo editing but the screen doesn't matter with how slow it is. There is such a ridiculously slow delay that I can't imagine it'd work for gamers even though I saw it being promoted as a gaming laptop. I'd recommend going with something else.

I bought this laptop 1 month ago, I just used it yesterday for first time with my lightroom program, the laptop shut off in the middle of my working. I powered it back on and signed in and it took me to where I was, unsure why it shutoff, this morning exact same thing. I got it on clearance, good price.

Not sure if it’s the windows software, or Dell But takes forever to boot up… There’s always an update that takes seemingly 15 to 20 minutes. If I need something done I usually do it at the office Very disappointed

My laptop worked perfect, until about the 2nd day I had it, it started to overhear, shut down on its own, and close out of stuff I was doing. Other than that the laptop was great, I returned it and got my money back.

It worked like I figured it would. The thing was it is to large for a tablet mode laptop. Also the keyboard is to small for all the space that is available. I returned it, it just didn't work for my needs.
