I've been out of the home theater/audio world for awhile. Decided to dip my toe back in with this purchase. I'm coming from a 20-year old Onkyo receiver. As soon as I played music through this Denon x3600h, it was like I had purchased a new set of speakers. The sound was so crisp and clear, the base response was tighter, it was amazing. The HEOS app working with the Denon app is effortless. Home movie experience is spectacular too! The setup was a breeze, thank you Denon software engineers. The phone apps are wonderful. No more laying on the floor cycling through menu screens on the front panel. I honestly haven't scratched the surface of what this thing has to offer. I can't wait to hook up Atmos speakers to get the full effect for home theater. Build quality is superb, fit and finish is beautiful, software is amazing. If you're in the market, you can't go wrong, treat yourself and enjoy! Quick cons: • No illumination on remote, seems a no-brainer • Be nice option if font size could be enlarged within phone apps Hat Tip: Audioholics.com for reviewing and recommending this receiver.

Had this for over a year now and still works just like new! When I bought this Denon AVR-X3600H, I had been researching for quite a while and waiting for the right product to come along. I watched videos, read reviews on various tech sites and online stores. Nothing was quite right in my budget range. I knew I couldn't spend much more than $1000-1200. I wanted to spend more but couldn't quite afford it. That's when this little beauty was released and reviews for it were glowing! This receiver not only has DTS-X and Atmos, but it also supports IMAX Enhanced and plenty of power per channel 9.2 channels. I thought about spending more to get Auro-3D support because the demos sounded amazing on my regular setup. I can only imagine what they sound like with all the proper speakers placed. However, the support for the format is very limited and I'd have to spend twice as much to get it. I use my Denon in a 5.2.4 configuration. Could also do 7.2.2 fully powered. The option is to use an external amp on either the Front channels, the Rear channels, or one set of the Height channels. Once I get another power amp (Heard good things about the Monoprice 400w 2-channel amp), then I'll use that to power the Front channels and use the Denon to power everything else. I love all the HDMI ports it has and uses them all. I've used all the sound options. The best is using the Dolby receiver to auto-fill the Heigh channels or channels, not in use with interpreted data from the channels in use. It's like Virtual Surround but much more accurate and detailed. Both Dolby and DTS have these but I've used the Dolby one the most. The menu is easy to use and the mic included is very useful. Comes with a cardboard stand you put the mic on to mimic the proper height your ears will likely be located. Calibration was simple and thorough. I've loved everything about this receiver! All for a great price, too! The sound is absolutely amazing! I can really crank it up with my JBL HLS 820s x6, 810s x2 (running in parallel as the Center), HLS Centers x 4 (Height speakers), along with my Klipsch 12" sub. Of course, I'm only running 4 of the 820s until I get my external amp. Still, sounds amazing no matter what type of media I throw at it: Gaming, movies, music, ambient noises, and audiophile demos! Definitely highly recommended receiver!

This thing rocks! I have this filling a 12x20 room with a 5.2.4 setup of various B&W speakers (683 S2, 606, M1, HTM62. In terms of power, i do have it around 80% volume to fill the room when watching movies. If I want more power, I know I can add an amp which will probably be my next upgrade, but due to the great sale, reviews, and ability to add 2 extra channels, I couldn't help but make this purchase. It replaced a yamaha rx-a2050. For what it's worth, the Denon is definitely brighter and clearer than my yamaha, however I prefer the yamaha app and remote over the denon counterparts. Setup was a breeze.

Amazing sound. Combined with definitive technology surround sound. Wired up entire basement. Underestimated cost to set up. Used 2 zones. It seems to only work with 2 zones. Took me awhile to get used to so many options that it has. Can be overwhelming for novice users. Remote control is cheap feel. Remote seems to be destined to malfunction or break. Heos and app are not user friendly. Pandora and Spotify keeps being kicked out. If using these apps for music or movies, i recommend using ethernet to connect to internet always.

Needed to upgrade my receiver to process more channels and have the ability to use 4K. The sound quality is comparable to my Marantz receiver that it replaced. The best selling feature is having the 9 channel amplifier that can process two more channels with an external amp. The ability to have a 7.2.4 system with one receiver and have Dolby Atmos is great. This receiver runs very hot, even when it is not pushed hard. In a full open rack system I still feel it runs hotter than it should.

I was upgrading my TV from an outdated LED to a new OLED and wanted to take it a step further and also upgrade my sound setup from a soundbar to something better. I researched and reviewed and new I wanted a Dolby Atmos setup with 5.1.4 channels. So of all the 9+ channel receivers, this one had all the features and even more!! I am blown away by how incredible having my own personal Dolby Atmos setup sounds and feels!! In fact, I scared my wife while in the shower by playing a movie so loud she thought a car drove into the house!! I was SO proud!!

I purchased a 9.2 channel receiver 2 years ago. I was never really impressed by the sound. It wasn't bad but it didn't impress me like it should have. I did some research and everything pointed me in Denon's direction. I finally purchased the AVR-X3600H. It was very easy to setup and get going. The HEOS app took some getting used to but besides that everything went well. The automatic speaker setup was performed easily enough and once completed I was amazed. I tested the receiver with Avengers Endgame and Bumblebee (bad movie, good sound effects). Wow is all I can say. Don't waste your time and money on other receivers like I did, go out and get a Denon.

A receiver that does (almost) everything I wanted

There were a number of things on my wish list before I decided on this receiver: (1) Dolby Atmos support, (2) USB support of my digital music collection, (3) compatibility with my existing 7.1 audio/video setup. I have had this receiver for about a week, and so far I have been very pleased. The receiver works with all of my old equipment and due to the layout, the speaker connection is easier than all the receivers that I have ever owned (about 6.) The connection with other devices was simple as all need to be done is plugging in the HDMI cables. After about 20 minutes of optional Audyssey setup, 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos work as expected. The receiver can read almost all the files within my music collection stored on a large 5TB portable drive (my older receiver can't recognize a drive larger than 128GB), and managing the playlist is easy (even though scrolling through the list of artists is a chore as the list is long.) Switching between simple stereo and simulated surround sound is very easy giving nice control of how atmospheric I want the music to be. There are many Internet options that I have yet to explore (for example, music streaming through Denon HEOS.) So far I only ran into a few hitches: the receiver does not recognize music files in DSD format even though the manual indicates support. As my Sony X800M2 Bluray player supports the format, this isn't a serious problem. I have yet to get HDMI ARC to work between the receiver and the LG TV. As optical connection works, that's ok for now. My subwoofer was blown during the Audyssey setup. I don't know if it's the fault of the receiver, or it's my close-to-20-year-old subwoofer's time to go, or I made a mistake in not following the on-screen instructions very closely.

I was running a 7.2 Pioneer elite and was looking to upgrade my system to atmos 9.2. I chose the denon due to its close comparison in options yet much lower price point than Marantz. I couldn't be happier with this product. It's setup was a breeze and quite frankly is just a much simpler receiver to use compared to my Pioneer. The sound quality is outstanding and a complete breeze to set up

This is a very good product. I haven't had it very long so I can't say anything about it's longevity. I'm most impress with the ease of setting up and the room correct. The on screen menu graphics make it foolproof. I have this for a home theater 5.2.4 set up and it work flawlessly. I was shopping for a receiver and this went on sale ,and I honestly think it's the best bang for your buck.

Great receiver! I've had Denon equipment in the past and this is that same quality that I've come to expect. Setup with the included microphone was very easy. I have a 7.2 system and the Audssey setup really made it sound awesome. It decodes audio flawlessly and the video is crisp and accurate. The flexibility to add more speakers is something I may consider in the future. I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone who is serious about good quality audio.

Really easy to setup and I like that they included labels for wiring. After the room-correction was run, I was blown away at the crispness and detail of the sound. This is driving ELAC Debut B5s and a C5 up front with some cheapos I bought off Amazon in the rear. Coming from my Pioneer VSX-832 (no slouch, but not in the same class as this), this is night and day. I heard detail that wasn't their before in movies and music. So far I'm very impressed!

I upgraded from an S920W and I couldn’t be happier. I had interest because of the available pre-outs, but this has enough power on its own to make my ELAC Uni-fi towers sing. I really didn’t expect this kind of performance. It deserves all the hype. Highly recommend, especially if you can grab it on sale.

Installed in minutes and works perfectly. Sound is on par with the Marantz it replaced but with more channels and all of the latest standards. Sounds equally good on both music and multi-channel movies. The remote is useful for setup but not for main use - it's way to light, looks the same upside down and not backlit. If you're buying this receiver then you most likely already have a Harmony or other home theater remote control system.

The X3600H is an very well made receiver. There is a little bit of set up involved when you first turn the unit on. You may need to adjust some of the settings manually if you do not like the audio calibration the mic setup uses. The remote is also very responsive which is nice. The sound quality is impressive and packs a punch. Even with one sub attached and not using Atmos speakers, this receiver has been awesome. The only thing that is frustrating and the reason why this is getting 4 stars is that the input will randomly change on the receiver after the unit has been on for a few minutes. For example, you could be watching something in HDMI 1 and the unit will switch to AUX1 even though nothing is plugged into it AUX1. Then you have change it back to HDMI 1 using the remote. It sometimes will do this same pattern a couple times and then not do it again the rest of the day. Its not the end of the world, but is kind of annoying as this happens over and over again. The receiver has the latest firmware.
