I'm a new player and wanted to give a perspective for anyone else new.
I've been playing for three weeks now and am still playing every night. The legendary edition is definitely worth it for new players. Base game and all three expansions is quite a bit of content even for just leveling one class. One thing to be aware, there was a download code to get the three expansions. This code may or may not be reusable; I don't know. So if you're planning to get a used copy or to resell it this is information you'll need.
Personally, I've never played an MMO on a console and also not many multiplayer games. When I compare Destiny to what I expect from MMOs or FPS games then Destiny is similar and compares well to other MMOs or FPS games. Ex. the raid is the end all be all. The main story quest line is not the culmination of the story. It's common for MMOs to lock the most satisfying content behind the raid. There's still a lot of fun to be had without raiding and when I bought Destiny I wasn't sure if I wanted to raid. But now I'm gearing up for it and looking forward to finding a group to try out the raid. Another example, while the graphics are better than last ten games and quite good for an MMO, I find the graphics to be subpar compared to single-player games in 2015.
Impressions after 1 week:
Leveling is a bit different than other games. I've come to realize that character level just unlocks gear or missions and has no affect on power, on my defense or damage. Stats come from gear. I've been finding gear or buying gear frequently. I've changed at least one piece sometimes more at every level. Progression feels good.
Over the weekend, I've seen a couple others leveling characters. I've now seen a lot of level 40 players in the same zone as me. The best I can tell is that they're waiting for events. I've joined two events with them. All of the Taken enemies I saw were at my level. So, it was weird but fun fighting the Take alongside level 40 players.
The Taken are a super nice addition. I'll move through an area empty of enemies and then the Taken teleport in. Or I'll come across the Taken in combat with other aliens that I need to get past. It's really cool.
While I was initially a bit disappointed with the graphics, I must say they are very good for an MMO. But I hope that the Taken King content and future expansions increases the resolution.
At level 16, the story feels empty. I'm more motivated by finding gear than experiencing more story. I also find it weird that there's a queen in this game but she has no court. There are two guards and a guy with her. Is she the queen of three people? It's odd.
The game play has begun to feel a bit repetitive. Deploy ghost, fight off waves of enemies. The enemies are a bit different and the mini-bosses different. But there's definitely a repetitive pattern to the experience. Honestly, I can't wait to get to explore the Dreadnaught at level 40. That sounds awesome.
The following was my impressions at 10 hours in.
There are no new players on my server. The tower is full of 34-40, mostly level 40 now players. I go out on a story mission or try out a patrol, there's nobody. I'm all alone. I've played other MMO's and I've always seen a few people leveling or wandering through areas. Bungie must have a bunch of small servers rather than a few large servers.
I did play the beta last year and the game zones felt vibrant, active. Playing now feels desolate. There's also no choice but to play solo. If you're looking for co-op then you better convince somebody to buy it with you or find somebody who wants to level another character.
I haven't gotten to the first strike yet, but I guessing I won't be able to do any strikes until I get close to 40. Maybe if I over level and come back I'll be able to solo a strike. Then again maybe I won't want to. Also, if I get stuck on a story mission then I suppose I'll have to scrounge for better gear or level up to buy higher level gear and come back. Hopefully, I'll be able to solo all the story content and get to the Taken King content without too much frustration. Now, that I'm playing I realize it was the Taken King content that sounded so exciting over the summer, not the base game.
Regarding graphics on the PS4, I'm a little disappointed. I was impressed during the beta. But now, after Bloodborne and Witcher 3 and watching MGS5 streams, the graphics already look dated. They are not that sharp or photorealistic as this year's games. Maybe the expansion has better graphics? Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about the art. I love the art. The art is some of the coolest in gaming, some of the most gorgeous sic-fi backdrops I've seen. That pushes me the most to explore this world for now.
For now, I'm playing a titan. That seemed like the best strategy to solo. If I don't like titan, then I'll use the one-time one character boost to 25 on a hunter or warlock.

So I did jump on the Destiny Bandwagon day one because I was needing a game to feed my addiction :P waiting for Dragon Age: Inquisition to come out. Game play was fun, acting terrible, storyline non existent, grinding factor through the roof. Through constant lag outs and crashed servers I exited the train just after Vault of Glass came out. I did enjoy the experience with friends when I was able to play. Decided to give it a second chance and preordered Taken King since it came with the other 2 pieces of DLC, still way over priced IMO but whatever, its giving me something to do until Fallout 4 wrecks my life with its awesomness. Voice acting and Story line have shown up and while I do feel like the grinding is a bit worse they have done a few things to make it easier. new subclasses are a blast and some of the new specials are exciting. way too easy to level up. went from 30-37 in maybe 2.5 hours. so when I hit 40 after maybe 4.5 hours I was a bit dumbfounded but fine, at least I still have my Light level to work up and I still can. so far no issues with the multiplayer/fireteam aside from an occasional lagout from a team member, perhaps its my 40mb/5mb that are keeping me afloat? who even knows. good game, complete for those who didnt pick it up originally. definitely has the Halo feel to it and is definitely better with friends.

I have played my share of first person shooters, and other online games, and this one is up at the top of my list. The value of the original game AND 3 expansions for the price of just the original game is outstanding. The story is unique and engaging. I see myself putting quite a bit of time into this game.

After holding out on buying this game when it first came out, bungie released this game with all the dlc for the same price as the original game. Spent over 100 hours playing. Well worth the money.

I love this game. How can you be sure that YOU will love this game?
1) Do you enjoy looking the impossible in it's big, ugly, alien eye(s) and conquering it?
1a) More importantly, do you have 2 like-minded friends who share that mindset?
2) Do you love completing tasks of varying degrees of difficulty for rewards?
3) Do you want some of the most balanced, PVP(Multiplayer) around? (You're going to suck in the beginning. But you'll get better, or you'll be weeded out of the gene pool)
In case the above was not enough for you, keep in mind that the Developer adds new content regularly. There are bi weekly events, and new improvements made all the time.
This game is great.

this game is amazing, I am speechless! The best part I love is the taken King brings you back to the Destiny universe, as you fight to destroy Oryx, an evil king with a hard grudge who's determined to take down the entire solar system. It's your job to find a way onto his Dreadnaught ship, obliterate his dark army and kill the king himself. You'll have access to three new Guardian subclasses, a wealth of weapons, armor and other gear and powerful new abilities. Select the Warlock subclass to harness the power of an electrical storm, the Hunter subclass to carve bows from gravitational void energy or the Titan subclass to summon a flaming hammer.

I've been playing video games since I was 8 which was about 20 years ago and this is my favorite game. The PvE experience is phenomenal to go along with a great story line. Need help? No problem, just invite a friend and knock out a mission together. And the raids which utilize communication and precision is second to none. There are many PvP options and the developers keep it creative with live events like Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. This game is one of the best FPS out there but make sure you have a Gold LIVE account to take this extraordinary game even further.

Best Deal For Price & Content For NEW Destiny Fans

For the price of the base game with *ALL* the Destiny expansions included, this is a GREAT deal. You get a VERY reduced price and can level up to level 25 automatically so you can start battling to level 40+, get your PVP on, and start collecting Exotics FAST. Original Destiny gamers can skip this (as you most likely already have all that this comes with, and paid SIGNIFICANTLY more for it at time of release). However, with the new expansion coming soon, if you ONLY have the base game, go you pick up a used copy. It will be *SO* worth it.

The original game was good. The Taken King / Year 2 improvements helped. However, if you want to get everything in the game and get to the top level, it will take a lot of time. Also, some of the game content (especially the end game content) requires multiple players. If you don't have a lot of friends playing the game, you will want to find groups of people to join via other websites to organize games with people who can communicate enough to accomplish the missions.

The taken King is an amazing addition to Destiny, a lot of people had an issue with destiny not having hardly any story to it but taken king brings a lot. I never thought I'd ask for cut scenes in a game. But the few they show are actually really entertaining, the rest of the story is told through actual game play, the first 5 minutes of the new missions had me hooked. Anyone who doesn't have taken King ( or either DLCs) should definitely get it. More than worth it

If you can accept Destiny for what it is, then you will either enjoy this game or realize that its not for you. Although Destiny is sparse on story and not truly a MMO, it offers a fun loot driven rpg experience with very tight gameplay and solid visuals. The legendary edition offers a ton of content in the form of previously released DLC + The Taken King, and offers some improvements on the overall game.

I have been a fan of Destiny since it's release. This was for my son who found many of his friends on his xbox one were playing it. I play it on the PS4. Same game, still great, so much to do it never gets old. Taken King is great. Ties together the original story line but makes it even better. I personally have not seen any glitches in the actual game so Bungie has done a great job.

I wanted to get the game when it initially came out but didn't and when they released the Taken King I definitely planned on getting it. The nice thing about the legendary edition is that it comes with the maps, higher level weapons and an item to level your character up faster. I would recommend this game, the story is good and the multiplayer game play is fun.

What Destiny should have been from the start!

I get the feeling that this is what the game should have been right out of the gate. There is more story, more depth (multi-step quests)... it feels like this is what the rumors of content being "stripped out" of the original game were talking about. Still some repetition/grinding but not nearly as much as in year one. I'm enjoying Destiny a lot more now.

If you have heard mixed or negative reviews about Destiny since its somewhat shaky launch, please set them aside and give this a shot. This is clearly the intended vision of the developers. The gameplay is much more rewarding, the story is much better, and the infamous voice acting has been corrected. If you liked Halo, you will love this.

I played Destiny for quite a bit then it started to get boring. I sold the original Destiny back in the spring. Then i heard of The Taken King edition and decided to give it a try. Happy i did. It brought a lot of value to the game and it was well worth the $60 price tag. Inplayed it hours on end and still play it a little to this day

Much has improved in comparison to launch day Destiny. Such as more content, substantial expansion with more exposition than the main game, gun play and shooting mechanics are solid (addictive in a sense). Essentially the definitive version of Destiny. Makes me wonder why none of this was with the base game when it launched.
