Customers are saying

Customers commend the ENVY Desktop's speed, ease of setup, and ample memory, frequently citing its strong performance and value for the price. However, some users point to a limited number of USB ports and a power supply that may restrict expansion options, particularly for adding a dedicated graphics card. The quiet operation and attractive design were also frequently praised. While some users noted the presence of pre-installed software, others appreciated its absence.

    Great All-Purpose Computer

This HP Envy 750 desktop offers more than enough power and storage for everyday tasks and just enough power for some creative projects like video editing. PROS: - The quad-core Intel Core i7 processor is the heart and soul of this machine. Such a powerful processor is rare in this mainstream consumer desktop market and it really makes applications load and work with great speed. - 16GB of RAM is more than enough for most users and allows the computer to run multiple applications, browser tabs, videos, etc. concurrently without slowdown. - The addition of Intel Optane memory provides a noticeable boost to Windows boot-up time. - Generous array of input ports, including 7 USB ports, an SD card reader, and even a USB-C port. - The built-in wireless card is 2x2, meaning there are 2 antennas for increased download/upload speeds. Similar desktops in this price range include only a 1x1 wireless card, so this faster wireless card is a nice addition. - Very easy set-up. HP has minimized the amount of registration screens and my machine arrived with almost all of the latest Windows updates installed. CONS: - The Intel Optane memory certainly improves the Windows boot-up time, but it doesn't appear that other installed applications or files benefit much. All of my other applications (such as the Office suite, Photoshop, and InDesign) are clearly still loading from the standard hard drive. I can hear the hard drive spinning when these applications load. Maybe this will improve over time as the system learns which applications I use most often. But as it stands, you will have to install a solid state drive if you want the fastest possible loading times from this machine. - The ports on the top of the case face away from the user and are difficult to access. I'm glad to have the ports, but their placement is a poor design choice. - HP has included some bloatware with this machine, including a trial for McAfee Anti-Virus, CyberLink Player, and tons of links to Amazon and Netflix. Luckily, these are easy to remove--but it's still annoying. - The machine has plenty of available space and PCI express sockets for upgrade purposes. Unfortunately, it is hindered by its 300W power supply, which only includes 1 additional hard drive power cable and no cable to power a dedicated graphics card. If you want to do any major upgrades to this machine, you'll also need to upgrade the power supply. OVERALL: If you need a fast, future-proof computer for everyday tasks and basic graphic design or video editing, give this machine a look. For the money, it offers an incredible amount of processing power, RAM, and storage. For just a bit more money, however, there are computers in this class with dedicated graphics cards and solid state drives that will take you to an even higher level of performance for gaming and high-end video editing. If none of that matters and you never plan on opening up the case of your computer, then the Envy 750 might just be for you. Recommended!

======= Summary ======= The HP Envy 750-624 desktop PC is a well-designed, solid-performing, and decently powerful everyday PC. It's not meant for gamers but one can turn it into a great gaming machine with a power supply (PSU) and graphics card (GPU) upgrade. Web browsing, word editing, and multitasking is very performant and the Envy does this all with whisper quiet operation. ======= Design ======= I find the exterior design to be pleasant, simple, and elegant. The front facade, with its brushed aluminum finish and texturing, looks great. It's simple, understated, and functional without unnecessary bling (e.g., colorful LEDs, graphics, aggressive grille designs). The sides of the PC enclosure are made of sturdy metal but the top black cover around the power button is cheap-feeling plastic. The long vertical cutout area in the middle of the front face hides a DVD burner which is a nice touch. The ports on the top the case, despite facing away from the user, wasn't hard to use. I could easily plug in my USB accessories without first having to bend forward to look at the ports. I'm sure muscle memory will make the process easier and faster as time goes by. I appreciate having easy access to the two USB 3.0 ports, one USB Type C port, headphone/mic jack, and the 7-in-1 media card reader. The ports on the back of the PC, although not plentiful compared to a full-sized ATX motherboard configuration, offers enough options for most people with two USB 2.0, an Ethernet LAN, two HDMI, and the Audio Ports. Accessing the interior of the PC for cleaning maintenance and/or upgrading is a very simple affair. Turn the big knob on the back of the PC to loosen the screw and then pull and slide off the sidepanel to expose the innards. The way the PC was configured, the two case fans and the CPU fan will be enough to keep the PC system nice and cool. Even if one decides to upgrade the PC with a powerful graphics card later, the current airflow setup looks to be adequate. As for future expansion and upgrades, the Envy offers one PCI-E x16 slot for a graphics card, one PCI-E x1 slot for expansion cards, and three SATA-3 connectors (one is already taken up by the DVD burner). Overall, I give a Thumbs-Up to HP's design aesthetics for this Envy desktop. ======= Software ======= As is usual for large PC manufacturer companies, the Envy PC came preloaded with lots of extra software from both Microsoft and HP, aka "bloatware." However, it isn't too bad. If there are apps you don't need or want to use, one can easily uninstall them from Settings. Some apps, especially ones from HP, are truly useful to have around. The HP Support Assistant is an excellent app that scans your PC and offers the latest software updates and drivers. Using the Support Assistant to download apps and drivers is much faster than downloading each piece of software through a browser. One can supplement the HP Support Assistant by also downloading & installing the Intel Driver & Support Assistant for even faster and timely driver updates. Other useful apps include the DTS Studio Sound (music & sound equalizer), Dropbox (comes with limited free cloud storage),HP Recovery Manager (in case something goes wrong with your PC and you want to start fresh), and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. The Envy comes loaded with a free trial of McAfee LiveSafe anti-virus security suite but most people will be just fine using Window 10's Windows Denfender security app. It is fast, works well, and it is free. The Envy booted with Windows 10 Home version 1703. An update to Windows 10 1709 was immediately available for download. The whole update process proceeded smoothly and easily with no hiccups of any kind. Compared to Windows of the past, Windows 10 is pretty rock-solid and stable. ======= Performance ======= The HP Envy 750-624 comes with a pretty respectable hardware setup, minus a discrete graphics card. The 7th-generation Kaby Lake Intel Core i7 7700 processor runs at 3.60GHz and Turbo Boosts up to 4.20GHz. With 4 physical Cores and 8 threads, the processor can handle anything out there easily. Single-thread performance is GREAT as is multi-tasking. The system comes with a generous amount of RAM - 16GB of DDR4-2400 memory made by Samsung. Again, application and multi-tasking performance benefits greatly from this. Hooked up to my 27" 2K LCD monitor, I never experienced any lags or stutters while I was heavily multi-tasking with the PC (Chrome with ~20 tabs open, downloading & uploading files in the background, Microsoft Word editing, YouTube music videos playing in the background). I ran the Envy through the Geekbench 4.2.2 benchmark and obtained the following scores: -Single-Core: 5187 -Multi-Core: 17,386 The Envy PC scored higher than my late-2017 HP Spectre 13 laptop with an 8th-generation Intel Core i7 8550U CPU with 8GB of RAM (4666 Single-Core & 12,051 Multi-Core) as well as my main gaming PC with a 2nd-generation Intel Core i7 2600K CPU with 16GB of RAM (3419 Single-Core & 11,693 Multi-Core). It also scored higher than my AMD HP Omen system with a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU with 8GB of RAM (3578 Single-Core & 11,708 Multi-Core). Nice~!! Storage performance was pretty good as well, thanks to the Intel Optane Memory system that is composed of a 16GB NVME M.2 memory module plus the 1TB Western Digital Blue SATA-3 hard drive with 64MB of cache and 7,200 RPM rotation speed. On the CrystalDiskmark 6.0.0 benchmark, my Sequential Read (Q32T1) speed was 922.6 MB/s and Sequential Write (Q32T1) speed was 152.3 MB/s. Random Read (4KiB Q8T8) was 781.4 MB/s and Random Write (4KiB Q8T8) was 154.1 MB/s. My Spectre 13 laptop which has a 1TB Samsung 960 Evo M.2 NVME SSD scored 1660.7 MB/s Sequential Read, 1584.0 MB/s Sequential Write, 1307.9 MB/s Randowm Write, and 686.8 MB/s Random Read. On the surface, these numbers make it seem like the storage performance on the Spectre 13 must be so much greater than the Envy's storage performance. In real-world daily usage, however, I didn't notice a very perceptible difference in storage performance. I'm sure that a more perceptible difference can be felt when loading large PC games. Also thanks to the Intel Optane Memory system, boot time to the Windows 10 locksreen took only 14 seconds despite having an older-technology spinning HDD. App installations and file transfers were also speedy and very satisfactory. In terms of auditory experience, the system operates very quietly. I couldn't hear any fan noises. The only noise I would hear once in a while came from the Western Digital HDD during disk-intensive operations. If there is one weakness with the Envy PC, it is the lack of a good discrete graphics card. If one doesn't plan on playing any games, then this is a non-issue. But if one wants to get into PC gaming and want to play the latest games at high-quality graphics settings, then the Envy - the way it's shipped - simply won't do as the integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 is woefully underpowered. In order to install a proper high-end graphics card (GPU), one must first buy a higher-wattage power supply unit (PSU) that can feed the GPU with enough power. For something like an nVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, for example, one will need a PSU with a rating of 500W or higher (Envy comes with a 300W PSU). Fortunately, quality PSU's are pretty affordable and easy enough to install. Besides for gaming but for everything else, the HP Envy PC is properly configured, powerful, efficient, fast, and quiet. It strikes a good balance with room for performance expansion. ======= So, is it any good? ======= Yes~!! With its sleek, modern design, well-balanced component configuration, useful software additions, and great CPU, RAM, and storage performance, the HP Envy is a great value and a fine PC. Everyday tasks such as web browsing, document creation, social media, and multi-tasking are easily handled by the Envy. Its only weakness is PC gaming but it can easily be rectified with two purchases (a more powerful PSU and a GPU). I can easily recommend this PC to friends and family for its ease of operation, maintenance, and great performance.

I'm replacing a 10-year-old HP desktop that served me well, but was getting pretty ancient. The new one is essentially the same physical size, but with the brushed metal finish on the front looks much nicer. Much more important, though, is how blazing fast it is compared to the old one. I love it! Another added benefit is the system is much, much quieter than the old one. I had a TV tuner and graphics card in the old PC and there are two slots available in the Envy where they would fit. (I've included a picture of the inside of the PC for reference.) However, as other reviewers have pointed out, the stock power supply in the system doesn't have enough power for most graphics cards so you'd have to upgrade the power supply. I really don't think I'm going to bother with that, though, because it's running all my applications (and a few games) just fine. Some people don't seem to like the rear-facing ports on the top of the case, but I like them just fine. You do have to crane your head around to see the slots when plugging things in, but then you don't have things sticking out of the front of your PC (flash drives, etc.) which is the part I like. It just seems a little more trim and tidy that way, plus the cats aren't as tempted to mess with the devices. For a little more money you could get a beefier system, and you might get by with a cheaper, less powerful system. But if you're looking for something decently fast that will run your applications for the years ahead, I think this is a great choice.

    Good Household Computer

The HP Envy Desktop is a really fast, capable computer for the home office. Equipped with an Intel I7-7700 and 16 gig of ddr4 ram, wireless-AC, Bluetooth 4.2, and USB 3.0 ports, it is well protected against obsolescence for the foreseeable future. The case is a mostly metal standard mini-tower, although the picture makes it look smaller. The door in the front hides a DVD reader/writer. A nice touch is that it comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse (not Bluetooth) and a small dedicated wireless USB dongle. The keyboard is compact, with chiclet style keys and a not quite standard key layout. It was quite comfortable to use and the 'wireless' cuts down on the wires snaking across the desk. I've attached a picture of it below a standard 104 keyboard for reference. The 16Gig Optane disk cache really speeds up disk operations. Bootup is extremely quick, and file operations are extremely fast. The Optane cache acts like a non-volatile (retains memory on power down) ultra high speed 16GB file store between memory and the hard disk. It 'learns' which files you use most frequently and really speeds up disk access. The Intel HD630 graphics are adequate for most office applications (word, excel, quicken, turbotax, etc), web browsing and video playback. For gaming, video editing, or graphic design, you'll want to add a dedicated video card. Setup was super easy and fast. Initial boot was really fast, go through the usual question round from Microsoft, then on to the update round. I want to note that I did have a problem with the Windows updates, and HP Support was absolutely stellar in getting me around it and back up and running. There is a lot of bloatware, mostly Windows apps and games, although it's easily removed. The HP support utilities (help, update) are actually quite useful and a welcome addition. There are really only two downsides to this system. The location of the USB, headphone, and SD card slot on the top facing away from the user are really awkward to use. It's nice not having to reach around to the back of the computer, but the location is really a poor design choice. The small power supply (300W) cuts down on energy consumption, but really limits video card addition. Anything more than a bottome end video card (ie., Nvidia GTX1030) will require that the power supply be upgraded to a more substantial supply. These are minor annoyances with a fine system. All in all, a well constructed, really fast office workstation for home use and basic graphic applications backed by an excellent support team.

This HP Envy desktop deliver powerful hardwares. Intel Core i7 7th generation which is a beast!, RAM 16 DDR4 in addtion to Intel Optane that makes hard drive perform like SSD in terms of boot up and launch softwares, USB Type C is great addition. The only part that is missing here is the discrete video card. However adding a new discrete video card in not pain the neck as long I’m having this powerful processore and RAM. Nice look and elegant

You will need to go through set up and MS updates and then you can enjoy this machine. Boot up is approx. 8 seconds. I loaded a rather large music recording program with Plugins (approx. 6GB worth of files) and this PC handles the program well. I enjoy the Speed at which I can multitask. The cooling fan is fairly quiet. Having 7 USB connecting ports is a big plus for me. I was surprised to see expansion slots so this holds a future for upgrades. Nice looking cabinet. The wireless mouse and keyboard connected immediately. The key board is small but usable. The mouse feels ok. The real strength is in the power of this machine. I did experience a few glitches. There was a Cyber link Power DVD program that stopped working and then disappeared. I have not found a way to get it back. It would be nice if HP still had a way to reinstall individual included programs, but, I found nothing on their site or in the PC itself. To my surprise, I found MS Media Player was Included which I activated, but still won't play a DVD movie. I do still highly recommend this PC if you are indeed looking for a power house desktop.

Technically this is a good PC with a fast, seventh generation i7 processor, lots of RAM and plenty of HD space plus the SSD accelerator for fast disk transfers. It's quiet and boots quickly. The placement of the audio, SD card reader and USB ports is at best poor. They can't be seen without being above and slightly behind the front of the enclosure which makes them difficult to access if the PC is on the floor, for instance. There is room to add a dedicated video processor but the 300 Watt power supply might limit the selection.

This new HP 16 gig, 64bit, 1TB hard drive computer with a i7 intel core processor is great. I also bought a new Samsung curve HDMI screen, which is incredible. It will take me a little while to adapt to Win 10, (I'm a Win 7 person), but I can tell it's going to be just fine. I've only had the computer operating for about 2 weeks and absolutely love it. This is the fastest computer I've ever owned.

I replaced an all-in-one pc with this one. Am not liking it’s ease of use. Ports on the rear hard to access down on the floor. Also not in love with the ports on top of the case because they are adjacent to a shiny scratch-prone top plastic panel, so you have to be careful when using. Yes, I know this is nit-picking, but I am a bit ocd! Otherwise, the pc works great.

I am not a computer nerd. In fact I'm barely above functional with some of the new systems. So, why am I not 100% (5 star) in love with this new computer? Well, believe it or not, I have a large MS Excel spreadsheet that actually loads faster on my old HP a6700f Pavilion running Vista operating system. This may be due to the upgraded Excel 2016 or Windows 10 operating system loaded on the new computer, I just don't know. Doing a hard boot, or a soft boot system start-up the HP ENVY is quite a bit quicker. Would I buy this desktop computer again. Yes I would. For it's price, it is overall superior to my older computers. Now if I can just learn Windows 10's peculiarities I will be exceedingly happy.
