A game that has received a lot of Dev love

While this game had a very rocky launch due to investors pushing it to launch a bit earlier than the devs wanting... the devs have definitely show a lot of love. MANY of the launch bugs have been pushed out, many features added, a lot of trolls smashed, and a lot of fun given.
With a lot of amazing content in the testing for release in the near future, this game has an amazing future that I have already put a LOT of hours into and will be putting many more hours into before I ever get tired of it! (Likely the servers will give out before I will with this game!)
Play by yourself if you wish, with your friends (more fun!), meet new people, or just explore. But do beware, some players are NOT friendly and may hunt you! So be on your guard, even though in my experience it isn't often.

For the Best Fans Only

I feel that this game was made for a very specific segment of the Fallout fans and not for a broader audience. It was far to rough compared to the more polished online multiplayer games I've tried. Perhaps Bethesda needs more time to make it right and their inexperience with online gaming is very telling. Too many exploits, bugs, and lack of content beyond RNG loot on the PC side. The fact the community had to step up for things the game doesn't provision is telling. I say wait for the first major expansion to see how things have come along.

The game is very similar to Fallout 4. The central gameplay mechanic is explore ruins collecting literal junk in an abandoned wasteland. There are no NPCs creating a feel of abandonment. This feeling combined with the exploration leads to a great atmosphere.
However there are a ton of game breaking bugs at launch. Wait until the game has a price drop and/or all of the bugs are fixed.

Overall a solid (if buggy) game

Like all Bethesda games, initial launch had a number of bugs in it. But most of those are getting cleared up now. The game would have been a 5 star game if they'd had less bugs & included NPC Humans & allowed you to have a companion like in older Fallout games. I understand the desire to stand this game apart & make it so the only "people" in the game are other PCs. But personally I've disliked that decision.
Otherwise a solid & fun game.

This game is a flop. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed many hours of playing it but do not expect a clean gaming experience. Servers drop often and there are plenty of bugs. They do keep working on servers so bugs may change. But believe me there are plenty of them to go around.

Very Different from previous Fallout games

I have been playing Fallout back since the original game, trying to find a Water Chip for Vault 13. While the changes in each game come with some good and bad features, the changes to this game are VERY different in feel.
The game has some amazing environmental renderings and the creatures are pretty impressive.
I am NOT fond of the constant need for food/water. I feel it takes up far too much time gathering materials and then only having a limited time before they 'spoil'. I would estimate anywhere from 25-50% of the game time I have is dedicated to getting 'fresh' supplies.
There are no living NPC's in the game (or at least, none that I have found and have not heard of any from other people's posts), so it has a pretty lonely feel to it despite having other gamers on the server, albeit usually pretty spread out.
I have only grouped up once so far, and it went well. We got the mission accomplished, no bad feelings between group members, and the combat was fun.
I have only been attacked once, of course by someone 8 levels over me, and while I was on a resource gathering run. So I didn't fight back, made it to a stash drop so I wouldn't lose any resources, and just stood there waiting for him to finish me off. Hopefully to make it as boring as possible and without any reward. Player got a bounty on him for his efforts.
Admittedly, I am much more of a PvE gamer than a PvP. So take all that I've said with that in mind.

I was able to get a great deal on the game, so I purchased it. First off, it's still prone to crashes and lock ups. The lack of NPC's doesn't bother me at much as I thought it would. There have been several large updates and patches since release. It's not a horrible game at this point, and with future updates, it will most likely get better.

There are some bugs at launch, but they aren't game-breaking. The world is huge, there is plenty to explore, and the crafting is fun. The weapon and gear customization is my favorite part. Hunting for plans isn't too difficult. There are so many that it still feels rewarding when you find desirable ones. You can have as little or as much interaction with other players as you choose.

Good addition to Fallout Universe

So let me start with - aware there is massive controversy around this game. Lots of people are saying its buggy (to the point of unplayable), lack of NPC's, and empty feeling with no soul, lack of factions and morale stake in the universe. There are some valid points there, but this game is not so awful as people online are throwing child like temper tantrums about.
Here's what i'll say about this game. Did you enjoy playing Fallout 3, Fallout NV, or Fallout 4, and ever want to play it with your friends in the same space? Then you'll like this game.
If you're looking for Fallout 5 - where you play by yourself in an intricate world that only you can experience, then no, you're going to be disapointed.
The game is fine. Align your expectations accordingly as per above and you'll be good to go.
There are plenty of quests, content, and things to do/interact with. The game is as populated with interesting locations and quests as any of the other fallout games. The only real difference is that this game is more like playing WoW or other MMO's, where your decisions don't have a tangible impact on the overall game because its more like an MMO, everything resets (as it does in WoW), 20 mins after you finish an area. Thus my point, don't expect fallout 5. Expect Multiplayer Fallout 4, that's more like an MMO.

Travel back into the early 1990's with internet connections ! servers drop out & you lose hours of progress . Single player , not this game . Others online can kill you & steal all your progress . I deleted this game & all other Fallout games . I really loved Fallout New Vegas . This game is a rip off

If you are interested enough to look at the written reviews on this site, then I'm guessing you're interested enough to look at some of the professional reviews out there.
So will be no surprise to hear me say that this game has problems . There's glitches aplenty, and a fairly shallow amount of game play.
Buuuuut, Bethesda seems committed to this game at least for the next calendar year, and games like Destiny and the Division have shown that over time, a lackluster game can be made good to great by a publisher who is committed to improvement, and listening to player feedback.
I guess I'm saying, it's an average (and at an MSRP of 59.99, overpriced) game right this moment. But check back 6 months from now, and this could be a really special game.

I've played and beat the previous Fallout games (3, New Vegas, 4) and coming into this game I knew the lack of true NPCs would make for a different game experience and that is certainly the case. The graphics are a bit better than Fallout 4 but not as good as some other recent releases. The game systems will be familiar to Fallout players, although the way Perks have been changed is both a positive and negative for me. The lack of NPCs and traditional quests and storylines can make the world feel a bit empty at times. Interaction with other players is limited to voice chat only, even on PC because let's face it, they limit initial features to match the console version. They are slowly fixing up the game with patches and listening to some feedback on game systems so it is improving. The planned addition of private servers later on and potential mod support could provide more longevity to the game and open up new ways to enjoy the game. Overall good game, but if you think you'll miss the NPCs, faction quests and the like, you may want to hold off and keep an eye on how the game evolves over time.

I really love the fallout universe, and do enjoy playing the game, but the multiplayer aspect has added nothing for me (I just want to play alone). The lack of NPCs makes the game seem empty. Nevertheless, there are a lot of good stories, quests and plenty of usual Fallout fun.

Fallout 76 was different, I believe, from anything any of us expected. And not for the better. I had high hopes, but as the reviews began to roll in, I decided this purchase was a mistake. I still don't know how to feel about it. Maybe the timing was wrong or Bethesda just didn't know what the player base wanted. Maybe we'll see a better iteration of this in the future. For now, this isn't much more than a single title in a history of games that were quaint embarrassments.

I purchased this for absolutely not its full retail price. I suggest anyone else that wants to play this do the exact same thing. I'm not going to say that the game is bad because the little time I put in (10 hrs or so) I enjoyed what I was doing. The thing is the bugs are in full effect. Making this game feel more like a 60 dollar beta test. Once you get over that, you have to make peace with the fact that when you log in and out your server is always changing. Makes base making a choir just a little.

I wasn't sure I'd like this one since it's not single player but I picked it up on sale and so far I've been having quite a lot of fun. I've been enjoying the exploring and crafting like I did in the other games. The servers are never super busy, so I don't really ever run into other players very often anyway. I think there is a mode for those who really want more pvp, but that's not my play style.

The idea of Fallout 76 is fun. Playing Fallout with your friends could have been great. The problem is that the Fallout series was great because of the store more then the graphics and way the game played and that is what was lost. The store is almost non existent and is not as easy to follow with out NPC's guiding you through it. It is a miss step for another wise great series.

First off, this game is exactly like fallout 4 but with multiples and some new features including portable camp and nuclear bombs. I really wish that they released this game without some much bugs/glitches. Other than that, if you love fallout 4, this is better because you can play with friends!
