Fire emblem is a game I usually don’t play but with engage I grew interested after the praise of Three house. Compared to that game story isn’t as strong in my opinion, however action and presentation are just as good and a fun time to play. Can’t wait to see the next game in this series on the switch 2.

Probably the most fun i’ve had in a fire emblem game, story lacks like crazy but i couldn’t put it down because of how fun it was - soundtrack is also a bit lacking but it wasn’t horrible just a neutral one

This is a nice one so far, for sure. I’m enjoying it quite a lot. Very colorful characters that may make your eyes hurt at some parts and give you a constant reminder of genshin. All the old heroes were great to see. The animations is more or less like I remember from 3 houses and a pinch of fates as well, but at the same time it’s very different. I’m not complaining I’m glad fire emblem is getting so many games for the switch and I can only hope for more games for the dear switch. This game deserves a chance for anyone who likes fire emblem long time fans or new, there is somethings to enjoy in this game and it’s a great experience

I found the core story of Engage to be satisfying. The “Emblem Rings” concept is clever — summoning classic heroes from past games adds a layer of nostalgia and variety. Some of the story beats hit emotionally, especially when old characters return. That said, a few plot threads felt predictable, and not every character in your party gets the spotlight or a memorable arc.
Strategy & Combat:
The turn-based tactical gameplay delivers exactly what I want from a Fire Emblem game. Positioning matters, and the addition of paired units with ring-synergy adds fun tactical depth. I enjoyed planning out attacks, using terrain and abilities, and feeling the sense of “just one more turn.” Difficulty is well balanced — challenging enough that mistakes matter, but not so punishing that it gets frustrating.
Graphics & Presentation:
On Switch, the game looks sharp — character portraits are expressive and battle animations are satisfying. The soundtrack is strong, and the combination of story scenes and combat keeps things flowing well. The UI and menus are clean, making inventory and unit-management smooth even on handheld.
Progression & Replayability:
Unlocking and equipping different emblems gives good variety, and mixing and matching party composition keeps things fresh. If you enjoy experimenting with different setups and replaying certain chapters to tweak outcomes or try new strategies, there is a fair amount of replay value. That said, once you beat the main campaign, there is limited incentive to play extra unless you’re especially into completion or alternate modes.
The Downsides:
Some of the side characters feel under-developed compared to the main leads — you might end up caring more about certain party members than others.
Difficulty spikes here and there, especially in later chapters, which can feel a bit abrupt if you're not carefully building up units.
The story, while decent, doesn’t always feel as deep or emotionally engaging as the best entries in the series.
Verdict:
Fire Emblem Engage delivers a strong, strategic tactical-RPG experience on Nintendo Switch. It’s accessible for newcomers, yet deep enough for veterans who enjoy planning and optimizing their party. While perfection it is not — some characters are under-used and the story isn’t groundbreaking — for fans of SRPGs or the Fire Emblem series, this is a very worthy addition to the library.

From the moment the first trailer for this game dropped, it really did nothing to spark my interest. I had a hard time figuring out what exactly the game was supposed to be. It was advertised as being a main series game, but the hero summoning mechanic that seemed to be the staple of the game/story made it seem like anything but. It reminded me very much of the mobile game FE: Heroes (which, for the record, I really like). However, Heroes is a free to play mobile game, not a $60 main series console game.
As a newer fan of the series who fell in love with the rich and engaging stories and characters of Awakening, Fates, and Three Houses, this game really falls flat for me. The story is very simplistic and the characters are quite bland. They are overshadowed by the heroes from the Emblem rings which, like I mentioned, kind of take center stage during the story without any real explanation. Obviously, its been made clear that the Fire Emblem universe takes place in a multiverse. But there's a difference between a multiverse and fanservice. This game feels much more like the latter. Again, this works in a spinoff game like Warriors or Heroes but not in a supposed mainline game.
Now the gameplay itself is pretty solid. The classic tactical gameplay that has been a staple of the series since the beginning is great and the different strategic options that are made available using the Emblem rings is quite interesting. The gameplay feels a lot like the earlier games in the series. With Engage, they were clearly returning to Fire Emblem's roots where gameplay was more important than story and character development. And for some people, this might be great. For others, not so much.
When it comes down to it, I think people's enjoyment of this game will come down to what exactly they want from a Fire Emblem game. If you are a fan of the older games of the series and care more about the tactical gameplay and less about story, then you will probably like this game. If you're like me and story and characters are the most important thing with gameplay being second, you will probably be disappointed. If you are expecting something as amazing as its predecessor, Three Houses, then you will DEFINITELY be disappointed.
In conclusion, I wasn't expecting much from this game and now that I've gotten my hands on it, I am pretty underwhelmed by it which is exactly what I was expecting. To me, it feels like nothing more than an overpriced version of Fire Emblem: Heroes with a formula that works much better in a mobile game than what's supposed to be a mainseries console game.
Also, as a side note, what is up with the lack of my girl Female Byleth? Like??? Honestly, that might have been this game's saving grace for me (since Three Houses is my favorite Fire Emblem game) but nope. I'm stuck with the male version. I figured they would at least give you the option to switch like they did in the Warriors games (even if one gender was more heavily marketed like Male Robin and Female Corrin).

tldr: pretty much what it says in the title, with the addition of the titular emblem engage mechanic; very gameplay focused, story is average and nowhere near as fleshed out as Three Houses. i'd give it a 4.3.
it reminds me a lot of the 3ds games in terms of gameplay, animations, and storytelling. the weapons triangle is back, and youll need to really familiarize yourself with it and get a good understanding of the engage mechanic to make the most of your characters in battle, especially in the harder difficulties. i'm a big fan of the series in general (played since the 3ds era), so i really like it. the story nor the characters aren't as engaging as Three Houses, nor is there much of a social sim going on outside of the fishing / cafeteria mechanic, so 3H enthusiasts might be disappointed there. the characters can be pretty funny though, and the story is engaging (lol) enough to me but it does get pretty predictable. overall a good experience!

Incredible gameplay, truly refines how old school Fire Emblem feels in terms of combat, especially with the return of the weapon triangle, but where the gameplay captivated me, the story did not hold as strong. I hope the future of Fire Emblem is a best of both worlds between Engage and Three Houses. I highly recommend this for tactics fans and Fire Emblem fans of the whole franchise as the game does feel like a massive love letter.

Most FE games are peak strategy RPG, bug this is still one of the better ones. The return of the weapon triangle immediately makes this feel better than FE3H. It also has good mission design. The graphics are a nice step up from the last FE game. The main character is also done better. While some of the characters have decent writing, what's here is generally just OK. Average story and many average characters so that part is a step back from FE3H. The one thing I actively did not like is the grinding loop. The auto scaling for the skirmish non-story battles makes no sense, and it can make those battles last longer than necessary for
Ittle reward. The emblem system is nice though.

For Fire emblem fans, one of the weirder entries in the series. Definitely not the best entry on the switch, its story being greatly lacking, its still a quality game and a love letter to new and old fans alike. Gameplay is great enough that I enjoyed it till the end, even if I didnt care much about the story.

Engaging gameplay! For fans of Fire Emblem, expect some of the most fun new mechanics that offer endless customization for your favorite characters, all of which are charming. For new fans, get a feel for the best the series has to offer with Emblem Heroes from across the whole series!

If you love Fire Emblem or strategy games, I highly recommend this game! It doesn't have as much of the "social" aspect filler content that Three Houses has, but that is a good thing IMO! A must have game for the Switch.

Engage is decent enough to hold its own in the FE franchise. The combat is scaled up from Three Houses, as well as the graphics. The Emblems feature is pretty fun and gives you more customization with units than other FE games. However, the story is a bit lackluster and rather predictable. Some characters and their support conversations are pretty bland as well. If you are willing to give up some of the meaningful story for fun combat, this is a good game for you. While it is certainly not the best, it does well for itself.
