I havent watched all the discs yet but I can say the set does deserve your money and time. I preordered my set the first hour of listing and I got it on the day it was promised. Now on to the set Audio/Video- Freaking amazing this is what 4k can really do if you have the whole setup for it. I have a samsung 65’ q9 tv with a q7 soundbar and cable matters 8k cables John Snow look the best, the fight scenes of the Night King army sounds creepy as hell. If u needed a good 4k tv show this is a perfect example. extras - I didnt own previous dvds or blurays because usually I always buy tv shows in complete sets but you do get 3 bonus blurays and whatever extras on the 4k discs. Also there is extras for the digital copies as well, so not too bad me I personally dont care much about the extras. Some deleted scnes, altenate endings, trailers, is all I need, but great effort to pack whatever you can. Packaging- Its good the steel book box that holds the steel book cases is sturdy enough and it is ez to pull each season out of the case, but I do wish they added a hard cover that fits around the box so the steelbook cases dont fall out. A hard plastic cover that just pulls out would of been nice. I wouldnt mind paying a extra 5$ or so for that extra protection. Also case 7 and 8 is alright but I wish they could of added a extra disc tray inside like they do with case 1 to 6 instead of stacking all the discs on 1 side. Just look at my pics for case 7 and 8 your know what I mean. Other than that the packaging is good Digital Copy- This might upset some people especially for that that expected a full 4k set.. When I redeem my set it automatically redeem it as Vudu only. I dont mind Vudu since pretty much most of my digital library is on vudu, but it would be nice to have the apple option too. Since most people stream movies on apple, vudu, or any digitally retailer that has a connection to movies now account where all the most popular movies eventually go. I can live with that and maybe for most guys its better than no digital copy at all, but the real big thing that might get guys upset is the fact that you bought a 4k disc set and DID NOT GET A 4K DIGITAL COPY. I double checked my vudu account and it said [HDX promotion], not sure if this was on purpose or they forgot. Anyways I look at apple and other sites and they dont offer 4k digital either so am assuming this is how it was suppose to be. Even on the packaging it says “digital copy”. Not a big issue for me since this is my first and only copy of game of thrones tv set, but those who wanted to upgrade their sets to 4k digital copy or was hoping to get a full 4k physical and digital set might feel a bit cheated and disappointed. Overall- a really good set for the money you buy for its worth it. there are some things that could of been better and the only bad side that might pop up is the 4k digital copies that some might feel salty about. Me am a very Happy fan and will definitely keep this set until 8k or something better comes by. Those expecting the bluray disc versions to come with the set they are NOT included like they advertise or said way before its onlly a “4k disc and digital copy “ only. I imagine including the blurays would cost super more and I doubt me and other would pay 400$ . the only blue-ray disc that comes in the set is 3 bluray discs with extras on case 8. There is a total of 33 4k discs, 3 blu-ray discs with extras only on case 8, and a digital copy paper. Still a good steel book case for those that want to spend the extra cash or for guys that prefer steelbook cases than the normal plastic 4k packaging and artwork.

Best physical release this show's gonna get and I'm lucky to have grabbed it on sale. It's obvious that the dings on my case are from poor packaging and ziptied safety trackers. But overall, my copy faired much better than most and I am very happy with it. No missing or scratched discs and no faults at all on the steelbooks at all. The biggest benefit of this compared to the regular 4K release, besides the steelbooks, is that the regular has all stacked discs (which can scratch the discs and are a PAIN to remove). In this release, only Season 7+8's steelbooks have stacked discs which is still very lazy but on brand for those final seasons. The other seasons 1-6 are perfect and have individual panels. I got lucky with my copy but buy at your own risk!

I won the lottery and got a steelbook set from best buy with very minimal dings though not that they didn't try with less than the minimum packing material. This set it beutiful and the show looks amazing with hdr. Unfortunately my set is missing season 1 disc 2 right out of the shrink wrap so that's amazing!

Excellent steelbook set, the picture quality is OUTSTANDING!! 10x better than hbo streams, better than the blu-rays, this is the DEFINITIVE version of Game of thrones!! There should be more 4K TV shows. I had to exchange my steelbook set twice because the first one had a defective disc and the second one was missing the digital copy which I wanted to redeem, but the 3rd one is perfect. Poor quality control it seems, but bestbuy was helpful in exchanging. A MUST OWN for any Game of Thrones / Steelbook / 4K UHD collector

I am some what of a steelbook collector, and not being able to watch this series when it was in it's prime, I decided this would be a good way to get into the series. I am almost all the way through season one, and so fr, thjis is fantastic. I have an LG OLED 4 K tv, and the quality of this set (so far) is absolutely amazing! It is a great transfer for sure. I highly recommend this set to any GOT fan!

This set, much like the show, is almost perfect. My biggest complaint is that the special features are cramed into the season 8 steel. I personally don't like the "stacked" style of case. Anywho, a gorgeous looking set for the best ten season show (with the last four seasons cramed into two) I appreciate the limited number of the set.

Absolutely stunning steelbooks. The big outer case was a little dented and the top rises a bit, but the inside steelbooks are fine so I can’t complain. You have to manually select the Dolby Atmos sound mixing on the discs, which is a slight inconvenience. At $60 off list price this is a great deal for a beautiful packaging for this epic series.

Very disappointing. Was so exited to get this set, and like others my set arrived damaged. As you can see from the pics, the outer case is pretty dinged up. Thankfully all the individual steelbook cases are fine, and all the discs are also fine, and accounted for. Other reviews have criticized BB's packing, but the box my set came in was fine. This is damage from the warehouse. Where things are just tossed around, thrown down chutes, tossed in bins, etc. And this is becoming all too common when purchasing movies online. The way they're handled at the warehouse is why most show up damaged. The problem here with this set though is that there is no packaging beyond shrink wrap. This set is kinda heavy, so it should have come in its own box to avoid damage. Listen to the reviews. Go to your local BB and pick this set up in person, otherwise you may be disappointed. It's a great set. Well worth picking up. Just a shame that no care was taken to protect it from damage.

This set is a mixed bag but I’m going to be as thorough as I can. I received this set on Halloween before it was officially released. At the time, I did not have a 4k setup in my theater room but Game of Thrones is my favorite show so I wanted to have the set and be future proof for when i finally decided to upgrade. The set arrived with one or two dings and the box that houses the steel books was slightly offset/bent, but overall it was shipped with plenty of padding so I wont complain and should consider myself lucky after reading about some of the sets others received. THEN, i started reading reviews and hearing that multiple folks were receiving sets with missing disks and playback issues. I immediately checked to make sure all disks were in tact (which they were) and started to spot check a few episodes on the Xbox One S built in 4k Blu-ray app. With that being said, I would highly encourage NOT using these disks on the Xbox One S, as I had multiple skipping issues with Battle of the Blackwater and The Long Night episodes that were not fixed by cleaning the disks. It was at this point I realized I needed to watch the entire set before my return window closed, as returning the whole set and playing the disk lottery was not something I was keen to do. So I finally upgraded to a new 4k OLED and standalone 4k UHD Blu-ray player. First off, let me confess: I inspected every disk before attempting playback. With 4k disks, you must thoroughly inspect for defects as quick inspection will show no issues. I literally took a flashlight and shined each disk before playing and lo and behold a lot of the disks had hidden fingerprints and light scratches. It’s very clear that these Best Buy exclusives are taken from the original set and manually placed into the steel books. Clearly the folks in charge of this process didn’t care to use gloves or handle the disks with any kind of care. As far as playback issues I was able to steer clear for the majority of the set. I did have some freezing issues in the first 3 seasons, and I believe all of those issues happened on disk 3 during episode 7, 8, or 9. After removing the disk and doing a wipe down with a micro fiber cloth, I was able to fix my freezing issues that I experienced instead of repeating the problem at the same spot of the episode. I did not have any issues at all in seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7. My last freezing issues came at the 17 minute mark of S8 E3 The Long Night. Again, after removing the disk and doing a thorough wipe down I was able to eliminate the issue for that episode. With all that being said, it’s unclear if wiping the disk resulted in previous episodes being affected so only future revisits will tell. Lastly, I must speak on the picture quality of the set. I see a lot of people saying that GoT has never looked better, and that is somewhat true due to the uptick in resolution. But honestly the original blu rays looked excellent and it’s a shame this set did not receive a Native 4k scan. At the end of the day picture quality on a TV will only look as good as the original source from the disk and there are two things that hold this set back. One is the fact that it received an upscaled transfer instead of a native scan as i mentioned before. Second is the fact that this show is ludicrously dark. We all know the issues HBO had with the dark picture for season 8 but after watching this entire set you realize this was a creative decision from the beginning. Dolby Vision makes it even darker. While there is more detail in the shadows thanks to DV, the lack of clear bright scenes throughout the show doesn’t allow this set to really pop as much as you’d like. There is smoke in every dark scene, and the large amount of snow scenes up north make for a lack of detail in those shots. I find it frustrating that the producers of this show think that every snowy scene must be a whiteout. Maybe Westeros is different, but here on earth you can usually still make out details in the wild when it’s snowing. Like I said, there is a difference between snow and a whiteout, and every snowy scene is some version of a whiteout it seems. Another issue is the fact that directors of this show preferred the use of mid range close ups (from the belt line up) instead of close ups on the actors’ faces. This makes facial details like pores, sweat, and facial hair not as pronounced as they could be. For instance, the show Black Sails does not have a 4k version available; however, the detail available on the faces of the actors in that show is incredible on standard blu ray. You feel like you are actually talking to the characters in your living room. While the costumes of GoT look impeccable on this 4k transfer, the faces of the characters can seem a little flat. Speaking of flat, this 4k transfer does nothing to help the believability of the CGI. The dragons have never looked this soft, and it’s clearly just the fact that 4k is accentuating the limits of HBO’s CGI budget. So there it is. Am I glad to have the whole set on 4k? Absolutely. Am i happy with the steel book version? Definitely. I just wish the set received the love its fans gave to the show with a native 4k scan, and I really wish the clowns at the warehouse stacking disks used more care and wore gloves for the love of God.

Two part review. The tv show is phenomenal and the steel book cases are awesome so based on that I'd give this 5+ Stars......However if you want to buy this specific 4k steel book complete series I HIGHLY recommend you do so in stores and not online. I purchased mine in the store and when I got it home I opened it up and the 6th season case was damaged and I was missing a disc from season 1 and a disc from season 2. I of course took it back to my local best buy because they had an additional one in stock. I asked the best buy associate performing the return if I could open the new set to ensure it was not also missing discs or damaged and sure enough it was also missing 2 discs but luckily it wasn't the same discs I was missing from my original set. The associate let me mix and match to make one complete set. But both sets I had were missing discs and had damaged cases.

While the picture quality is what you would expect from a 4K release, the audio and disc quality control are suspect. As many have reported, some discs and/or episodes randomly freeze. This occurred most during seasons 1-4. Thankfully, I was always able to fix this with a quick ejection of the disc and a restart. The freezing seemed to happen more often when I utilized the Dolby Atmos audio track. Coincidence? My last issue with the audio is how quiet dialogue seems to be. During several conversation scenes I had to significantly increase the volume on my sound bar. I noticed it more while using the Atmos track. As for the steelbook case itself, I got lucky with my shipping. The box containing the individual seasons was in like new condition with only 1 tiny scratch on the bottom. The season steelbooks were all perfect. Overall, it’s a very nice package with only a few playback hiccups that seem to affect some but not all.

Definitive Release of One of the Greatest Series

From the first episode to the last, GOT featured excellent writing, acting, scenery and production values, making it the perfect show to see and hear in 4K, high definition. This set offers definitive release steelbooks, with a no-nonsense outer box showing the major house sigils, and compelling artwork to showcase each season. The discs are stored, generally four-to-a-season, in easy-to-access, sturdy plastic inserts that are more sturdy and easier to access than the various cardboard-and-plastic sleeves of previous releases. The video and audio quality is fantastic overall, but there is some room for criticism. Each disc defaults to Dolby Digital 5.1 audio rather than the higher resolution Dolby TrueHD 7.1, so one must remember to select the proper audio from the menu. It makes a big difference in sound quality. The menus for each disc are also in low resolution. Some scenes have a minor problem with the color saturation. But overall these aren't significant enough to take away a star from the rating. There has been a lot of whining about the later seasons not living up to the thematic or screenplay standards of the first seasons, but those criticisms are silly. Character development is more important in the beginning and less important as GOT progresses. At the same time, the series became a phenomenon and commanded greater budgets that allowed for more elaborate sets, battles scenes and effects in the final two seasons. Each episode is of higher quality than most movies, so the complaints need to be taken with a grain of salt.

    The 'almost' Perfect GoT Set

Feels great to have the entire GoT series in one cohesive set. Steelbook casing is the matte texture, all came in great condition. I have to ding a star due to the unfortunate quality of the container box that the 8 Steelbooks are housed in. When my unit arrived, there was a bend in the top of the container box. I removed all 8 discs, and with the casing empty I realized how flimsy and cheap the aluminum metal is. I was able to bend the top back to shape and make it flat, but it is so delicate that just the act of picking the container up with all discs inside can cause it to bend and shift if you're not careful. Disappointing seeing that this set is not cheap - but as far as the individual Steelbooks and video quality goes - no complaints.
