It was portable so I could plug in addresses from the hotel room which we would be needing the following day. Then there was no need to have to try to plug in the car. Made it so much easier than built in. We were in a rental car so we did not have to pay the high fee they charge for GPS in a vehicle.

Battery Dies Quick

Posted .Yes, although "portable", these navigators are not handheld and do require power when operating. For best experience be sure to completely power off the unit when not in use. Even if battery is depleated, once you plug into your vehicles 12v power source, the device will power on within a couple minutes tops.
