A great idea with poor implimentation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my new 2017 Ford Mustang. because the camera has to be pointed directly straight, without being able to adjust the camera, Glare on the screen is an issue. Another note is that if your windshield is small, then you're going to be blocking a lot of your view. this unit also threw a lot of glare on my windshield at night, so it only made matters worse. I have a proclip setup in my car, so I can mount a GPS on my dash, rather than my windshield, but the camera at this location was blocked by my dash, and the lane departure wouldn't work at this location. in the end, I had to return this, as my regular Drive 51 worked much better for the time being.

Impressed and Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera quality and graphics are good with this one. I've had it for a year now and it's still working well. Sometimes the screen turns black and the device has to be restarted. Updates take an exceptionally long time. My main regret about purchasing this particular device is that to get the love traffic feature you have 2 options. One is to download the app on your smartphone which uses your cell data. To me, this defeats the purpose of having a GPS. The other option is to purchase their $70 traffic cable! Garmin and Best Buy really should have made that clear in their advertising.

Good options but..
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased first unit at store which was returned because battery would not charge. Second unit purchased from warehouse and had to send back to Garmin for memory card issues. Many good options in unit but quality control lacking.

Worked well but for only a short time.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Drive assist 51 LMT-S worked beautifully for about 6 months then after the third map update the system went into a continuous reboot cycle making it useless. I am not sure how this can be fixed and it did this when I needed it the most, for my cross-country move!

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I basically bought this product in conjunction with a EUROPE MAP program, sonI can use it while traveling. Hope works well, because Garmin products quality has been deteriorated like never expected. Not really a good product.

Not what I thought it would be
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GPS system is terrible, it only gives one direction, takes you directly into traffic, instead of away from it.

Easy to use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would be better if it had a night vision camera for the money spent on this thing

Posted .Hello, and thank you for your review.
While the DriveAssist devices do not include a night vision filter, they are designed as forward facing cameras. As such, if the device is used at night, it will still record video of what is illuminated by the vehicle headlights.

Nice but VERY POOR CAMERA PLACEMENT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned many Garmin GPS units as I use them in my business. This is the first one that I have been disappointed in. The camera is placed such just BELOW the mounting socket so that it can only be used with the suction cup mount on the windshield, which typically starts to fail within a few months dropping your unit to the dash or floor. When you try to use it with one of the dash mounts all you see in the camera is the stem of the mount. Garmin offers minimal options for GPS with cameras. My last one, now in one of my business vans, has the camera mounted to the driver's side and it can be adjusted. It works fine with any of the mounts. Garmin blew it on this one and I really wish that they offered more options with cameras as with today's distracted drivers looking at their phones it is not a question of if someone will hit you but when will they. If there was another Garmin option I would take this back but it is the only one that I could find at Best Buy or on Amazon.

Posted .The mounting bracket on this model is reversible, this allows the DriveAssist to work with our portable friction mount.

Good GPS, camera not so good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had problems right away with this GPS. When the SD card got full the GPS would freeze during the route. Garmin replaced the unit and the refurbished one did the same thing. I kept it up to date with the software and it now appears to work ok. The video resolution is not good. I had an incident where another vehicle forced me off the road and left the scene. I needed to get the plate number of the vehicle involved but to my disappointment the plate was not readable and the distance was only about 25 feet. I need a better dash cam.
