Beyond my expectations
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like most people, I use my phone as my GPS, but I started to wonder what current GPS devices offered. I was an early adopter back in the 2000s, so I’ve seen these devices evolve over time. But what blows me away is the quality of the voice command and the camera system. I definitely would spend extra to buy one of these higher end devices, as it does more than give directions. It is virtually hands free, where I simply declare “Voice Command” and it turns on. The degree of accuracy has been inconsistent, but I figure it will learn over time. Surprisingly, it worked well in Hawaii, where every other letter is a vowel. As you arrive at a location, it gives a live view and points out the location for you. The interaction with your Smartphone still needs some work, but it is ultimately effective, although a little tedious because you have to turn on your app and have it connect with your GPS device. I wish the device was easier to connect and disconnect, like the magnetic connection on the DriveLuxe model. But ultimately, I went with the DriveAssist version for the camera. But I preferred the DriveLuxe ease of disconnection. The cord is somewhat awkward as well, as it is an old USB mini connector instead of micro. The unit does not hold a long charge, so you need to keep it plugged in more often than you’d want. I would buy it again, but wish I could try the DriveLuxe. The camera isn’t as important as I thought because it takes some work to turn it on.

Good GPS with a camera
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I switched to Garmin a few years ago when I found out my brand charged for annual map updates with fee and an additional fee for traffic. All of my Garmin's have been great and have functioned well. Their is my 4th Garmin as I keep upgrading every few years to get more features. All but 1 of the old ones still work great and accept map updates. This one has a great camera, that is why I upgraded. Map update works off built in wifi without connecting to a computer. Traffic is kinda weird until you get used to it. I wish it used the cable to receive over clear channel radio as the older one did. You have to connect to your phone, turn on location on phone and access via Garmin smartphone link. This works but uses data to pull traffic then pushes it via bluetooth to the Garmin. Pretty good speaker to use for hands free calls as well.

Feature Rich GPS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This GPS has many great features, Large crisp display, Camera for video and stills, including lane and collision detection, bluetooth connection to smartphone to receive calls and text messages. Although you can only get free traffic update by downloading the smartlink app on your phone and connecting it to the GPS. That will chew through your data plan over time, so be careful.

Posted .Hello, and thank you for your review.
Though Smartphone Link is the default traffic solution for the DriveAssist 51 LMT-S, vehicle power cables with built-in traffic receivers are still available for purchase as optional accessories for this device, should you prefer them over the smartphone option.
A GTM 36 cable, which offers standard Garmin traffic, can be found with part number 010-01009-02. A GTM 60, which provides HD Digital Traffic, can be found with part number 010-01031-00.

Very useful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works as a GPS. That's for sure. For anyone who has used Garmin before, the OS hasn't changed at all. The interface is the same. Very smooth experience though. It feels like a smart phone now. The added function of being a camera though is a lifesaver. I wish I would have had it when I got into an accident and they sided with the other guy. It's pricey but it works well. The voice command isn't very good so i wouldn't use it. It also works with a Garmin add on backup camera so that's an added plus.

Better than my phone
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The combo of dash cam and gps is really great. I wish that it included the cord that is required to get traffic info because it requires the phone to be connected with the app running. I will probably shell out the 60 bucks for the cord because the traffic updates are great.

Lots of info to be installed for camera app
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very dissatisfied with the items i had to purchase for basic uses. Example: The 3 ft cable is too short for my usages. I purchased a 6 foot. I didn't receive a memory card in my package. The package was opened by a Geek employee. I purchased my memory card from the Best Buy Store in Greenville, NC. The product I Purchased: Garmin Drive Asst 51 North America LMT-S.

Cant beat it, GPS and a dash cam!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this item for my son who was a victim of a hit and run, the offender ran my sons car into a parked car and took off. My sons car was subsequently unable to move so my son could not chase after the criminal, luckily a good samaratin who witnessed the act was able to return with the offenders license plate #! And after another close call "accident" i decided to purchase this item for my son! Cant beat it a GPS with a dash cam built in! You cant deny the importance of a dash cam in case of a accident!

Great so far
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded from an older Garmin, so far it has been great and met all expectations. Haven't really used the camera yet but hope to soon. Some of the notifications can get annoying but it is easy to turn them off.

Decent
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A good little GPS. The camera is a great addition since you can film just about anything. The alerts are a bit annoying, but you can shut them off.

Pretty good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like it. There's one thing Garmin could improve. The lane depart detection is pretty horrible. It will constantly go off if enabled. It's not a big deal if you don't care to use this feature like me. I just turned it off. Other than that it's a really good GPS/camera.

excellent portable GPS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Does a wonderful job of monitoring traffic, selecting the best route, rerouting silently when I do something it doesn't expect and alerting me to road difficulties up ahead. Lets me know which lane to be in, gives me landmarks on my route and generally does a great job of orienting me. The screen is a good size - better than my phone. I find the voice recognition feature does not work as well as I would like so I largely ignore it. My only complaints is that it no longer comes with a traffic enabled cord so has to talk to my phone and that I have yet to figure out the color coding of the roads indicating the amount of traffic ahead. If it still even tells me this.

Much Larger Screen
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a much larger screen than my older Garmin GPS units - about 7 inches across - which makes viewing it easier. Also due to its size, I find it more difficult to mount on the windshield and removal is also harder I also miss the built-in dash video camera that was part of my Garmin DriveAssist 51 model GPS. A GPS this large should have an integral dash camera. The real test will come when the Garmin 30 backup camera (sold separately) is installed on my car and integrated with this GPS.

Switching to Garmen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After getting used to entering the address number first switching to Garmen was easy but it had 2 errors the first time I used it and when trying to update the maps, it read that I was using the wrong cable but it was the caple that came with it.

Great GPS with Extra Features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a very good unit and with the front facing traffic camera capability, it helps me stay safe when driving in traffic. The only downside is that I wish it came in the 6.1 larger size screen for my old eyes!

Improved Features
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an owner of 6 products over 10 years, I've seen the changes to Garmin products. I still use the GarminMap 78SC on my boat, however, the battery on my Nuvi 50LM started going bad after 5 years. I decided to try the higher end DriveAssist 51. The touch screen Is very responsive. The only down sides are the pronunciations on Hawaiian streets are terrible and apparently the Garmin Garage is no longer available (I prefer the Yoda Voice instead of the mispronounced Hawaiian Names),

Great GPS
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned a Garmin Nuvi GPS with pressure touch previously. Incredibly durable & reliable machine. So when it came time for an upgrade, I naturally got another Garmin. I decided to splurge and get the one with a dash cam. The capacitative touch is a nice change. Just a few words of critique: -- The hearts indicating interesting places to visit can be distracting; would be nice to have an easy, intuitive way of turning that feature off. -- The dash cam allows for horizontal adjustment, not vertical. Would be nice if it allowed for vertical adjustment too, as I prefer having the GPS next to my rear view mirror & end up with too much sky on screen. Otherwise, a great purchase. Garmin products are excellent overall and I would recommend them in a heartbeat.
