One of my best purchases ever at best buy. I needed a new one and this one was perfect since I have GE profile appliances already. It really adds more of an appeal to my spectacular kitchen.

Hinge on inside of door unit cutting control cable
Bad design flaw coming into focus , can this be repaired and is it worth it to fix
Unit is 5 years old
Do new units have same flaw with cable placement?
Otherwise great unit

Positives are it looks really good with all of my other new Profile appliances.
Negatives are as others have said you can't see through the window, what a dumb design flaw. The I wish I could return the item moment for me is how it turns the vent fan on full blast when you cook something longer then about 10 minutes. There is no way to turn the fan off, you have to suffer through it. I did realize that it will cool quicker it you leave the door wide open after the food is cooked. I have purchased many a microwave in the past and I have never had one turn on a loud cooling fan.

Avoid unless you like replacing every year!

This microwave was installed in our new home by the builder - we did not choose it.
We've had this microwave for just over a year - we moved into our new house in December of 2020 and this was a brand new microwave installed in our kitchen. It had been working fine since then, though the bulbs burned out after about 8 months.
Then earlier this month (February 2022) it started randomly tripping the breaker when we tried to start a cook cycle. It got worse, to the point where it would trip the breaker as soon as we reset it. We called for a GE technician to come check it and he said that some internal relay was shot and it would be more expensive to fix than to replace.
Thank goodness we had already bought an LG model as a replacement! I wasn't happy about GE appliances being supplied by the builder, but we didn't have a choice.
I cannot recommend this item, even if it looks nice and (when it actually works) cooks food evenly.

This is our 2nd time for this microwave. Unfortunately they changed the template for it in the last 5 years and now our backsplash is 1.5 inches too short so the microwave no longer covers it properly. Thanks, GE, for the first microwave tripping the breaker all the time after 4 years and paying for 2 other service calls. Now this. It's not Best Buy's fault. We were stuck because nothing else fits the opening we have. Just be forewarned.

My first GE over the range microwave lasted well over 15 years.
However, this one NOT even close. In the first 6 months the filter door broke, was told there wasn’t anything that could be done. So I used scotch tape to hold it in place. The light over the stove would continuously burn out after a few months of use. And to top it off, this one lasted less than 2 years and then died!
It’s a shame GE products don’t stand up to the test of time like they use to. I want to love it. But how can I when the product no longer works a reasonable amount of time compared to the cost!
I have been a GE fan but definitely questioning my loyalty to a company that no longer makes dependable products.
Change my mind, please!
Thank you for your feedback; it helps us continuously improve our products. We’re glad to hear the microwave worked well with your stove and appreciate you sharing your experience.

Should have read the reviews but this kind of mistake never occurred to me-purchased/installed;dumbfounded could not see thru door -- Absurd. Beautiful, convenient...but the door...really!! Don't designers use their product before going to market?? Next time will buy as nice & also see thru door. Will not be purchasing again - if asked will relate problem. Purchased whole appliance package for large kitchen renov & microwave is biggest complaint. Someone somewhere must have good answer and, hopefully, can get it @ next storevisit.
This is Megan at GE Appliances. I am sorry to hear that you are not happy with your microwave We will certainly pass your feedback along to our Product Team for review. Thank you for taking the time to review.

Lasted Only 5 Years

I like the sleek look and it worked well for 5 years. I would expect a much longer life before breaking so I would not recommend.
We are sorry to hear your microwave is no longer working. We can understand how upsetting this is for you and want to be sure you know. If your microwave is less than 5 years old this model has a 5-year warranty on the magnetron tube. Please review the warranty on page 33 in the manual. If you need to replace it, we do recommend our PVM9005SJSS model that is currently on sale.

Above stove microwave has easy to see display alon

Has nice display horizontally along bottom of microwave so easier to read and especially good for shorter people.
Be sure and check out the sensor cooking options as they take the guess work out of microwaving by determining the cook time and power level needed to heat your food item.

Just up and died

Bought this one in 2017. After having a Frigidaire with no sensor cooking and a handle that broke off for 7 years i wanted a really nice microwave that would last. I really expected to get 10+ years out of it but after 6 years i went to thaw out meat and breaker tripped instantly. Reset it and tried again. Reset instantly again. Got an extension cord and tried a different outlet. Lasted 3 seconds made a horrendous electrical clicking sound and died all together. Completely bricked. After not even 6 years. Never buying GE ever again!

Just not worth it

Never worked well, and stopped working completely just over 3 years after purchase. The sensor cooking almost always overheated food or was completely underdone/still cold, not even tepid. Definitely never to a good temperature for enjoyable food. Defrost option and normal cooking was fine. Venting was poor but that's standard for above-range microwave vents. To top it off, it was said (by a pro!) to be a difficult install, so unless you're very handy, you'd probably want to pay for a pro. For the price a large hassle and disappointment.
We appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Our apologies to hear that the sensor cooking does not cook your food the way you want it to. It's understandable how much of a hassle that is. All of your concerns will be shared with our development team so improvements can be made. Let us know if you need anything. Mike@GEA

It Broke, cheap, bad quality

Broke after less than 2 years. The price to repair is the same as buying a new one. I'll switch brands now because I don't want to reward GE for making a low-quality low-durability product.
Not super surprising because I noticed early on that the door handle started to peel - it's not stainless steel, just plastic with a thin silver colored sticker over it.

failed right after warranty expired

This microwave worked great right up until it just stopped working, since the control panel is located in the door. Wiring must pass thru the hinge area putting stress on wires and at least in my case eventually failed
Hello NJayG, thank you for your review. We are sincerely sorry your microwave stopped operating properly so soon into its lifespan. We truly understand how that would be frustrating. Please know that this is not the ownership experience we strive for. We hope we will have the opportunity to earn your trust back in the future. -Chris@GEA

My 17 year old GE Profile microwave was replaced by another GE Profile with sensor cooking microwave and lasted 20 months only. I will never buy any GE product again, ever!

Had to be repaired twice in less than two years. Both times after the 1 year warranty was up. First time tripping breakers when opening door. Now broken wires feeding door. Was told at about $400 to replace door.Very disappointing. Nice looking microwave to bad he build quality is not good. Not going to have fixed. Looking at a more dependable microwave. Not a cheep microwave. Repair technician said he has seen both of these issues on same model microwave. Must be common problems.
Hello Rdjd, thank you for your review. We are very sorry that your microwave stopped performing properly and required a service appointment. Our appliances are built to last and this is not something we would expect to hear. Please know that we value your business and apologize for any unexpected inconvenience this may have caused. paint chips

GE microwaves, especially GE Profile, are known to have the interior paint chip and peel. GE offers no warranty for this, and suggest that the customer buys a new product. If you go with GE, good luck.
