I was looking for an affordable Windows laptop under $400 for my mom to use for her occasional real estate work, and after a very careful research, I decided on GeoBook 240. As my mother is older, I wanted her to have a larger screen. This 14-inch screen was large enough, yet still easy enough to carry around unlike the 15-inch models that weigh 5 pounds or more, which acts more as a desktop replacement vs a portable laptop. The cherry on top was that GeoBook 240 is Full HD, which made graphics appear clearer and brighter than non-FHD models. The second factor that stood out was the fact that this has an 8GB RAM vs 4GB RAM, which is a rarity for devices in my budget range. Lastly, in the age of Zoom meetings and webinars, a web cam is a necessity. GeoBook 240 came with a 2MP webcam with 1080p vs others that were more expensive with webcam resolution of 720p. At $399.99, the specs of GeoBook 240 is unbeatable. Also, when I was helping my mother set up the computer, I noticed that the device had a premium feel to it, which was easier to grip, and the keyboard was nicer than I expected. If you are looking for a laptop to do more than emails and browsing the internet without breaking the bank, this is your best bet.

    * I could write 15 different reviews because we bought 15 these laptops for charity donation. But, I will just settle with one review for those who may be care. Our church IT found 2 out of 15 laptops DOA, 2 out of 15 laptops had bad screen and 1 out of 15 has dead SSD. The build quality is not exactly top notch, but the spec is adequate for most if not all high-school students. ( no gaming ) Because we have limited budget + we don't want to buy "used" or "refurbished" for these children, therefore, this is the cheapest laptop we can find with 8GB Ram ( soldered or not-replaceable ) 128GB SATA SSD ( replaceable ) and Pentinum Silver N5030 about the speed benchmark of 7th Gen i3-7100u. Screen-bleed is expected but surprising very sharp in full HD resolution even compare to Surface Laptop or Mac Air. Webcam is better than most of HP new laptop also. That being said, if you okay with refurbished or open-box item, you may be able to spend little more on name brand.

Bought this snappy, fast computer and love it, especially for the price point. The keypad is responsive and works as expected. Computer has excellent audio. The display is vibrant, and has great full HD resolution. It’s great gaming for mid-tier games. Light and portable to take with my back and forth to work, and on trips. I’m super happy with this purchase.

I ordered this as a cheap laptop to run a CNC machine. First laptop arrived and when booting it went into boot loop. Zero recovery options without default admin. I took this 35 minutes to my local BestBuy for confirmation even though I have been in IT for 20 years and seen plenty of boot loops... They confirmed, refunded me my money. I ordered another laptop 2 weeks later. I mean, what are the chances they both have the same issue?? Boot loop, again... No escape. No options for recovery. So second one is going on another 35 min journey to BB. This is ridiculous. I know I am not the first to have this issue so the comments must be hidden about how garbage this device is... Trust your guy, move on...

I just wanna start by saying this is just my experience with this product. I bought this super excited for a good deal. Some things bothered me, the trackpad would get stuck when I went to click on things and certain parts of the screen looked a little strange, but those are minor issues I didn’t really care about. A week and a half after buying it, it made weird noises then about an hour later the screen started flashing crazy colors and then refused to turn on. Just returned it.

So Im going to try to keep this simple and to the point. I bought this laptop for $130.00 "open box" but in like new condition. Ive had it for about 2 weeks and really like it for a few reasons. For one it looks very nice, I love the color, I mean this is a matte black laptop! It just really caught my eye. I like how many ports this machine has and the type of ports. This comes with a USB C, 2 USB 3.0 ports, mini HDMI, micro SD card slot, audio jack and charging port and no you CANT charge this computer with the USB C port. This laptop also has upgradeable storage which is just great! This computer has 8GB of ram which really helps Windows 10/11 to run smooth. The ram is NOT upgradeable by the way, only the storage!! I also enjoy the keyboard because the keys are bigger than most other laptops which makes typing fun. The trackpad is OKAY, its nice and big and the tracking is good enough. The screen looks nice, it gets bright enough for indoor use but outdoor use would be a different story. Battery life is very nice I gotta say, I can get about 6 to 9 hours of use depending on what I'm doing and if you are someone who uses their laptop off and on you can get a few days out of it easily. The last but not least is performance. Thanks to this quad core Pentium processor this machine is great for watching YouTube videos, video calling, listening to music and even editing light videos/play games. I also like how this is a fanless machine which means its silent. I almost forgot to say this machine comes with Office 365 for free for one year! That alone is like $60.00 so Im happy with that! This laptop isn't without its flaws though, one being the speakers not being too great. Like, its loud enough if I'm in my room watching YouTube or a movie but if I take this out into my kitchen and there are people talking, I won't be able to hear my video. The trackpad also has some flaws. Keep in mind I do like the size of the trackpad and the texture, but I don't like how it doesn't have palm rejection. Even typing this review I gotta be somewhat mindful when I'm typing to make sure my curser doesn't randomly click somewhere else. Also clicking on the trackpad kinda feels cheap. The overall construction of the laptop feels a little cheap as well, at least to me. It doesn't take much to twist and bend this laptop. I'm sure this laptop will last a long time if you take care of it just like anything else but it is something that does concern me a little bit, not gonna lie. So overall I think if you're in the market for a solid good looking laptop this will be it. I wouldn't pay more than $300.00 though because it just feels a little bit cheaper than Id like but that doesn't mean this is a bad laptop. This computer has so many pros to it like the 8GB ram which most laptops in the $300.00 price range don't have, it also has upgradeable storage, and this computer performs well. The battery life is great as well and it just looks very nice. Id recommend this laptop for students, grandparents, a teenagers first computer and really anyone who doesn't need to edit tons of videos or play triple A games.

This laptop is a really good value at $250. Most budget laptops at this price point tend to be Chrome books with only 64 GB drives, 4 GB Ram, and Celeron processors. This one has a 128 GB drive, 8 GB Ram, and a faster Pentium Silver processor. It's very light and very portable and it runs cool. It doesn't feel cheaply made either. The display is very nice. It doesn't have a number pad, but that is the trade off for a more compact and smaller laptop. I've read other reviews detailing how theirs broke down within weeks. Hope that doesn't happen to me. So far it's been running great. Are there better laptops to be had? Definitely. But this one was very inexpensive and a great value for the features and specs it has. I don't really need anything more than this in a laptop.

Geo book 240 8GB HONEST Review

Alright so after a few days with the laptop this is my review on it. I’ll go ahead and give you guys the positives first. To begin with, it’s a decent laptop for the price. Build quality is decent overall but I’m not sure I’d recommend it. To begin with, The GEOBOOK 240 has a nice finish on the outside of the laptop and the keyboard is not too bad either. It feels good in the hand and when carrying. The laptop is decent at doing things like watching videos and surfing the web but it can feel a little slow even though it has 8gb of ram. I have not tried running any games on it yet but I really doubt it can run games smoothly since the processor is an INTEL N5030. The laptop gets about 6 hours of battery life on a full charge and takes quite a while to charge (2 hours from 15%.) The Screen is HD and looks pretty clear. The touchpad feels good but it is a little clicky and it feels kind of cheap. One thing that I did notice was that there was Backlight leakage on the laptop I received. I’m not sure if this is a problem with ALL Geo Laptops or just this one. For those who don’t know what backlight leakage is it’s basically what happens when the manufacture doesn’t seal the screen right and light bleeds in through the unsealed spots causing bright spots on the screen . The bright spots are mostly visible on the bottom corners of the screen when I power on the laptop but you can also see them when using apps with dark backgrounds (Netflix for example.) Also when I received the laptop I noticed that the charger wasn’t really packaged correctly. It was out of its plastic package baggy and it looked like they just threw it in the box so I’m not really sure what that was about. Overall, I can honestly give the GEOBOOK 240 a 3 star rating so I’m not sure I’d recommend it. If you need something inexpensive for work or school then this might work for you. If you’re looking for something that can run current games or render videos then this is definitely not it. This laptop is on the cheaper side so it really isn’t a performance laptop. It can definitely handle LIGHT tasks though so it can definitely be a starter laptop for somebody who isn’t really tech savvy.

Good for the price /w light browsing and basic use

I snagged one of these as a basic web browsing, email, chat type machine. Its predecessor was 12 years old so I had pretty low expectations, I just wanted something that I could walk by and poke at, or carry somewhere and use as a serial terminal for routers. Real basic stuff. For that, hey it's a solid deal. The SSD in mine is made by Netac. You can find it as a part in the usual places but as an SSD at least when brand new it's not too shabby. This machine is unlikely to bottleneck on the drive, due points are awarded. It's not a mechanical spinning rust hard drive and it's not some eMMC but a real SSD. It may be a SATA SSD, but in the real world with real people doing things other than benchmarking it doesn't matter versus M.2, and yes I actually own the fancier stuff in my other machines. Feel free to find another laptop at this price with a real SSD, good luck. The screen is a pleasant surprise. Yes as another reviewer noted there's some light leaking. It's not bad and only visible if you're looking at a completely black screen. The rest of the time it's simply a nice bright screen, with decent contrast and black levels, colors really don't shift much based upon angle. Windows says like 6 hours on of battery with the screen turned up pretty high and uhhh Senua's Sacrifice is downloading in the background. The CPU + iGPU uses something ridiculously low like a grand total of 6 watts so, I'm not gonna argue with the battery performance. It's pretty decent if that's accurate. Construction is plasticky. They keyboard feels like the buttons could be made of thicker plastic, the palm rest is of course more plastic. The shell is covered with some kind of rubberized material which I'm afraid might be that kind of stuff that becomes a sticky goo in a few years as it degrades. I guess we'll see but for now it's kinda nice. The keyboard does not light up and it doesn't have any kind of ambient light sensor so the screen brightness is manual only. The trackpad is huge, it's runs the full depth of the palm rest and works really well. The whole thing clicks and they've wasted no space on useless buttons. If your trackpad predilections flow in the same way as mine towards a giant trackpad and no buttons then heck yeah, come on over. For ports we've got an USB-A on both sides plus headphone jack and micro SD on the right, then power, HDMI, USB-C on the left. I just wish the power port was behind the USB-A port instead of the USB port being the rear-most. That makes it a little weird requiring the mouse to be plugged in on the same side as the mouse itself or for the power cable to go face forward or swing over whatever is plugged in there. Hopefully there's a decent reason it's like that from a design standpoint because from a usability standpoint it's a bit annoying. Wi-fi seems like it's probably decent but my network setup at home is... well we'll just call it atypically good and move on. === Now for the negatives... Webcam: No. Hard no. Just... just no. The webcam quality is shockingly worse than anything you've ever seen. This wouldn't make the cut for a $30 kid's toy from 15 years ago, it's that bad. I seriously wonder if it the part was excavated from a landfill. THERE IS NO LED INDICATING WHEN THE WEBCAM IS ON. Sound is pretty bad, the speakers have to be cranked to the max to be heard and with the shipped drivers it was making a clicking sound when starting. An Windows Update fixed the popping at least but on first install the Cortana voiceovers were missing the first few syllables of each sentence. Performance. Eh? It struggles to load complicated webpages like Best Buy, but simpler stuff is fine. Task manager takes up like half a core. I guess I really shouldn't complain given how little power this thing uses, but it's not what anybody would call fast. It is decent enough for light browsing though and that's what I bought it for. That aforementioned load of Senua's Sacrifice couldn't be pared down low enough to be anything but a 1 fps slide show. Polybius is not running at 60 Hz by any stretch of the imagination. It struggles with Portal 2 even with stuff dialed way back. You will not be gaming on this.

Me: Medium-low technical expertise, very hard on laptops physically, no gaming. I always have many browser tabs open including video, which I listen to in the background while working in 2-3 basic programs simultaneously. Have owned multiple brands of lower-end Chromebooks and Windows laptops. Never heard of Geo prior to purchasing this Dec 2021, but it was on sale for $250 and had better specs than most budget laptops (8gb ram/128gb SSD/full HD display) so I tried it. Pros: --Sharp and super bright display. (So bright that I keep it dialed down to half its max or it's too bright for my eyes.) --Sound quality is decent (although not loud--see Cons) --I can do everything I want on it and it's fast enough that I never have to wait for things to load --No freezing or other glitches --Good battery life --Pretty light weight Cons: --Sound was too quiet (and it's not I need ear-splitting volume). But in searching for solutions I found a free program called FXSound designed to boost volume, and that works great. --After about 8 or 9 months it started getting hot in the left corner (and sometimes the power brick too), so now I have to constantly manage that. If it gets TOO hot it will shut itself down. Obviously this is a huge drag; however, as I said, I'm notoriously hard on laptops so it may be something I did. --Also recently the right end of the hinge has started coming apart; not sure if it's missing a screw or part of the plastic broke. I've been meaning to try taking it apart to try to fix this (and see if there's dust or something obvious causing the overheating) but haven't got around to it. I've just been snapping it back together and it's getting worse. But again, it's probably something I did. --Couldn't find a matching silicone keyboard cover to protect it from my snacks so now it's a mess. Bottom line: Came here looking for a replacement and discovered Best Buy still sells this one and now it's only $200 on sale. So I'm definitely buying it again and vowing to take better care of it this time. My current one still works fine other than the problems noted above, so I will keep it as a backup and meanwhile get around to taking the back off to try to fix the corner and possibly the overheating.

As this was extremely inexpensive on the Black Friday, sale, I did not expect much from it. However, when I set it up, I was pleasantly surprised. This was purchased for my mother, who will be using it mostly for internet and some social media uses. She needed a slightly smaller machine than her old 15.6" HP (which never worked right), so this looked promising, and it was the right size. I set it up for her this evening, and it works great. The speed is fine, the screen is very clear and the color is very good, and the keyboard keys are big enough and laid out well enough to make typing enjoyable. (My only complaint is that the Shift key is a little sticky, so I hope that eases up and does not cause a problem). I noted no light bleed on the screen, by the way. I hope it holds up, as I think my mother will really enjoy it. Time will tell...

I needed something really inexpensive that worked well enough and this little laptop is way more than that. Super fast, super light, no bells or whistles, everything very standard but it really is impressive. You can do just about anything you need to on it. This is actually my second one...spilled water on the first and didn't have a warranty, got one this time. The great thing is for $180 if it lasts only two years it's way worth it. Love this little machine.

So far, so good for the price of this little laptop. While it was initially frustrating not to be able to install software unless it was "Microsoft-approved," I did figure out how to do it. It just took a little time. I am impressed at the speed it takes to load when it turns on and the size and weight of the laptop will make it easy to transport when I go on vacation. Aside from that, I don't have much to say.
