I've been listening to this album everyday since I bought it a few month ago. It's the best modern Metallica album yet. I loved Death Magnetic but this feels like Metallica of old the Original Metal Monsters. Three CDs make it feel like 3 new albums. Every song is insane. The 3rd CD has classic live recordings and the first time Hard Wired to Self Destruct was played live. Totally epic album.

I've been a Metallica fan since 1984. I Started playin guitar because of James Hetfield, When I was 12 years old. He Impacted My Life Tremendously and Influenced Me to become a Musician. I've seen them go through many changes throughout the years, Cliff Burtons death in 1986 being one of the most Tragic Events they could ever possibly deal with. Watching Metallica evolve as thier Musical Career continued to expand, They have Covered a lot of ground and have Toured extensively All Around The World, Many, Many times Over. I do have Tremendous Respect for them, and listen to thier music almost Every Day of My Life. When I heard they were coming to Orlando, July 5 th, 2017 on thier 'World Wired Tour', I knew without a doubt, I would Absolutely be there, It had been almost 14 Years since I'd had the Oppurtunity to see them Live at the Orlando Arena. I listened to thier New Album 'Hard Wired to Self Destruct' online and immediately knew they were back to thier Roots again. It was Heavy as Ever and had that True 'Trademark' Sound Metallica are Famous for. When they were here in town, It was like the Entire City of Orlando was in Metallica Mode! Traffic was backed up for miles and hours, No Mistake, Metallica would soon be onstage at 'The Orlando Camping World Stadium! Volbeat opened up and did an Amazing Job as Usuall, It was my 6 th time seeing Volbeat Live and I Love them Dudes, Truly a Classy bunch of Fellas that Know how to Rock the House. A7 was pretty good too, though I don't have any of thier music, they did thier job. Then... The Moment the lights went down and the Roar of the Crowd filled the Stadium, The Pounding Began... The Lights and the Fireworks lit up the crowd and Metallica Emerged with their Thunderous Sound Blasting and Shaking the Entire Stadium! The Gods of Metal have Arrived in Orlando! Song after Song after Song after Song, Metallica had a Set List like a Greatest Hits that was just Relentless, Proving without a Doubt they are 'The Undisputed Heavy Weight Champions of Metal! The Crowd Roared on through the night as the band continued to Rattle the Foundation of the Stadium! The Big HD Screens Towering, The Intense Lazers piercing through the Smoke, The Incredible Pyrotechnics, The Fireworks Exploding in Combination with a Legendary Set List and Amazing Sound absolutely proved to Orlando that Metallica had come to Level the Place with a Furious Vengeance! That Night will Forever be a Legendary Evening with Metallica for Me! As a Bonus to purchasing a Concert Ticket, (Which was worth Every Dollar) I recieved an Email a few days later, In appreciation from Metallica were offering a Complimentary Copy of thier new CD 'Hard Wired to Self Destruct' (or download) as another Token of Appreciation for attending such an Amazing Concert. How Classy is That? Man, Metallica really know how to Set the Standard, Time and Time Again! The CD is Fantastic and I'm certain All of the Original Metallica Family will without a doubt, Embrace yet another Great Work of Art by the band. James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett are an Incredible Guitar Duo that Intertwine with Lars and Rob like a Well Oiled Machine. Metallica is an Absolutely Amazing Band that has truely Stood the Test of Time an Upheld thier Legendary Status and Proved to the Entire World they will forever be Remembered and Respected as 'The Undisputed Heavy Weight Champions of Metal'...

Not Quite a Classic, but a Contemporary Gem

For those of you who think Metallica haven't done anything worth mentioning (except in a negative way at least) since "... And Justice for All," this isn't likely to change your mind. It's got some classic elements, sure, but a true throwback it is not. I found it to be more of a Black Album (think "The Struggle Within") and Load (think "Bleeding Me") hybrid. There are some thrashy moments, and even thrashy songs (e.g., "Spit out the Bone"), but it has a ton of groove and also seems like a hard rock album (albeit a very heavy hard rock album) at times. You've probably already heard "Hardwired," "Atlas Rise," and "Moth into the Flame." Those are standout tracks, but "Spit out the Bone" is probably the best song on the record. It's a modern-Metallica take on a song like "Damge, Inc." The second best track is probably "Lords of Summer" on disc 3, as it is very AJFA inspired. "Confusion" sounds like a modern-Metallica take on "Leper Messiah." Beyond that, there's a lot of mid-paced hard rock that brings back memories of Load. If that is a bad thing to you, you probably won't LOVE this album, but there is a bit of something for everyone. Just understand that when people hear galloping on the open E string and proclaim, "It sounds just like "Kill Em' All," time and nostalgia have a way of making things seem a little bit different than they really are. This is a very good album by a band that has been around almost 40 years. It's definitely worth checking out. Your opinion may be different from mine, but I'd say to check out some of the songs I mentioned, and if you feel the same way, right on! If not, other reviewers may very well be more helpful. I'd also add that the production is much better here than on Death Magnetic, so if that bothered you, be relieved. Anyways, horns up!

The Metallica "Hardwired... The Self Destruct" Deluxe Version CD is a great cd. I purchased the deluxe version for the bonus cd. the bonus cd includes 14 extra songs, 10 are live tracks. If you're a fan of the older Metallica albums or their last album Death Magnetic you will like this cd.

This is quite possibly the best music in their career! It is heavy, angry, and just great song writing both lyrically and musically. This album has me excited to see where they go from here!

For me, nothing can compare to the first 4 Metallica Albums I grew up with, but this is another solid effort that sounds somewhat like old Metallica, without the total brickwalled mastering of Death Magnetic.

Even though it has been out almost two years to this point, I still can't stop listening to this album.
While I did enjoy Death Magnetic, their previous release, it seemed whoever was working the board for this album paid attention to the compression levels as the instrument tone came out much better on this album. It didn't distort quite as much at higher volume levels.
The vocals came through better and not extremely quiet like the last album.
You can actually hear more of the bass guitar compared to previous releases as the band is notorious for dropping the dB levels for that range in most of their albums. Very happy to see they are going for a fuller sound than they have in some cases.
I'm not going to go into a song by song review, but I do personally agree with some of the reviews that this is one of the best albums they've done since Metallica (more commonly known as the Black Album).
Favorite track is the closing track "Spit Out the Bone" very awesome track. I am happy to see they are starting to play this live a bit more.

Trying to sum up a new Metallica album in just one paragraph is nearly impossible. There's a lot happening here, and the album does take a few spins to fully digest. The first 3 singles they threw out there to promote this thing were all rippers (Hardwired, Moth Into Flame, Atlas, Rise!), but that was bit of a curveball. As you work your way through the album, you'll find the rest has a somewhat different vibe. The back half starts to lull a little bit, with mostly mid-tempo songs that have a real Load feel to them (although heavier and with a bit more groove). Right about the time when you're starting to wonder if you're still listening to the same album, you get treated to one last ripper in Spit Out the Bone. Although that might not sound like much of an endorsement, I'm still really enjoying most of this album. Moth Into Flame holds up to anything they've ever done in my opinion. It's difficult not to compare it to past works, but there's really no need to. It's not Master of Puppets II, nor is it Re-Reload. It's new Metallica, and there's something here for everyone from Kill 'Em All to Death Magnetic. Those who jumped ship because "Load this..." or "St. Anger that..." probably won't be coming back. But if you actually consider yourself a fan and have enjoyed the journey thus far, there's no reason you won't be jamming out to this in your car for weeks to come. Something like 8/10, if numbers are your thing.

I am a life long Metallica fan. James Hetfeild is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place, so I may be a bit biased. However, it has been difficult to defend their musical choices over the years since load. Normally when they release something new I already have the excuses ready to make for them because in the metal world, expectations are often unrealistic. "Just do Master of Puppets again!", as if its that easy. Most of the time the criticism comes from people who don't even play. Well, I can gladly say, I no longer have to excuse them! They seem to have their teeth back! I highly recommend this album. Good from start to finish. No, it's not 1987 again and to expect that is just plain unfair to the band. But thankfully, they have obviously found a reason to get any again. Maybe it was the 20 plus years of constantly hearing about how they can't play the very style they help create?
