Bought this to replace an HP 8620 which had worked flawlessly for 13 years.
The 8620 print-head failed, and a brand new HP print-head would not work, nor would new cartridges.
This printer was as close to the same specs as the now expensive paper-weight 8620 so I placed an online order.
Received the printer and the only way it would work was to create an HP Smart account and agree to the advertised 3 months "free" Instant Ink trial. It would not switch seamlessly between tray 1 and tray 2. When that issue was resolved after many hours of work, then the ADF would not work. Many more hours to get that issue fixed. ADF will not scan a 1 sided document and print a 2 sided copy as the old 8620 did. Hp tech support (If you could call it that) could one suggest uninstall and reinstall software. Of course that didn't work.
The advertised 3 months "free" HP Instant Ink was shortened at forced enrollment to only 2 months, and now HP has my credit card info. with no way to delete it and say I will be billed at the end of 1 month, which translates to 0 months "free" trial. Online reviews indicate even though customer cancelled the Instant Ink scam HP has wormed their way into the printer firmware and will brick the printer if HP Instant Ink is not re-enrolled!
There needs to be another class action lawsuit!

Easy to use, high-quality printer

This printer a solid, reliable, feature-packed business unit. I classify it as 'business' simply because of its size. It is enormous physically. This and the price of the ink are the only two negatives about it. It's easy to set up and the print quality is amazing. Here are some addition details about my experience.
SIZE
So this is not your average printer. I was coming from an Epson WorkForce Pro, so I was somewhat prepared for the size since the two are physically very similar in size, but the HP printer feels quite a bit larger since it's more horizontally oriented than vertically. This HP printer is designed to handle large format scans and prints (up to 11 x 17), which explains the size. I recommend making sure you have adequate space before considering this printer. It's worth it when it comes to the product it produces, but just be sure you have the space for it.
SETUP
The 9730e has a very straightforward setup process. Once you get it out of the packaging (blue tape and foam), connect it to power, and WiFi, the printer walks you through the rest of the setup on its touchscreen display. Getting the printer out of the box is actually somewhat easy despite its size because a bag with handles is included in the box so you can lift it out. The process to get to printing can take a little bit of time, but a lot of that time is actually idle for the user and just the printer running through its processes.
FEATURES
A few of the things I really liked were:
- The Touchscreen Display is very responsive and easy to read. The menu is set up in a way that is easy to navigate. I didn't have any issues connecting to WiFi.
- The inclusion of Dual Trays makes it possible to have two different types of paper available at one time. You can easily change between paper sizes or even colors.
- Wireless Printing worked easily and flawlessly -- even with my iPhone.
INK COSTS
The main downside, as with many HP printers, is the ink cost. HP’s proprietary cartridges are pricey, and if you're printing a lot of color documents, it adds up fast. If you're running a small business, this is something to factor into your operating expenses. There is a service you can subscribe to and have discounted ink delivered directly to you from HP, but a monthly fee applies.
Overall, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e is a solid, reliable, feature-packed business printer that delivers excellent results. While its large size and expensive ink costs are worth considering before purchase, these are really the only drawbacks I’ve experienced. In return, you get a high-quality, wide-format printer that’s easy to set up, simple to operate, and packed with thoughtful features like a responsive touchscreen, dual paper trays, and seamless wireless printing—even from mobile devices.
If you have the space for it and are prepared for the ongoing ink investment, the 9730e is an outstanding option for small businesses or anyone needing professional-level prints and scans right from their home or office.

Large but Capable Multi-Function printer!

The HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e is not your average home or small office printer. It’s packed with features, can print on A3 and A4 paper and is significantly larger than most home printers – so keep that in mind!
I’m involved in a landscaping business on the side – so I was very excited to be able to print larger plans for my clients. Showing a larger version of their front or backyard, or even the deck/patio upgrades really makes a difference. Add to that the beautiful colors and borderless printing – it’s a winning combination.
HP has been building printers for many years – and it shows with the ease of setup and connectivity. I had multiple laptops and mobile devices connected shortly after unboxing. Airprint connectivity is a game changer for contractors, landscapers, realtors and more. Nice to be able to print so easily.
I’ve use the HP Instant Ink feature before – and genuinely feel this is also a game changer. You can start with the free 3 month trial, use that time to figure out your printing needs then convert to the subscription that makes sense for you. When your printer is running low – ink automatically shows up at your door, and you send the empties back for recycling with the included prepaid return envelope! Nice job HP!
I also do quite a bit of scanning with my printers – like right now at tax time when I want to get all my documents electronically to my tax preparer. The Automatic Document Feeder hold up to 35 sheets (even 11x17) at one time, so it makes quick work of your scanning needs. I typically Scan to PC – and have had some troubles with this feature from time to time – thus the 4 stars out of 5. If HP can get this rock solid, I’d give 5 stars for sure.
Overall – I really like the printer – even though it is quite a bit bigger than others due to the 11x17 capabilities. Would I recommend it to a friend? Sure – and already have.

Good printer for home and small offices

This printer works mostly as advertised and is a good fit for home and small office setups. Here are my observations:
Set up is easy, you plugin the printer and follow the instructions on the website and then complete the setup via HP Smart software on your computer or phone. It comes with a 3 months free HP+ trial. Overall whether HP+ subscription is worth it or not will depend on your personal situation i.e. how much printing you do. You don't need to activate the subscription to use the printer.
The overall design of the printer is good. The 4.3" tilting touch screen is easy to use (even if you have big fingers). I faced issues with touch screen freezing initially but haven't experienced it after the latest firmware update.
In terms of features, it is loaded with all the stuff that you might need for your printing needs. It has two trays with each having a capcity of 250 papers. Tray 1 supports different type of papers while Tray 2 only supports regular paper. I find this helpful for my situation as my son prints a lot of stuff for his crafting projects while I do the regular printing, so we keep different papers in two trays and are able to get our stuff printed easily. I have tried printing on regular paper, HP premium 32 paper as well as HP professional matte paper.
The print quality is good for both black and white as well as color. The printing speed is average and same as other inkjet printers. The color prints in high quality is quite slow though (around 3-4 PPM).
Overall, I think it is a good all-in-one printer and will serve all printing needs of a household or small office.

Excellent Small Office (or big home) Printer

In the world of InkJet printers, this one is a beast. That's not just because of it's size - it is fairly large - but also because of the scope of what it can do. Whether you have a home office or small business or are just a large family that does a lot of printing, this printer has you covered and is definitely one I would recommend.
PROS:- TWO Large trays to hold lots of paper and two different sizes/types of paper- Large Scanner for things bigger than standard 8.5" by 11"- Nice Color Screen that's easy to read- Simple setup with help from HP App or Software- Wifi Printing works great
CONS- Uses InkJet Cartridges rather than Reservoirs- Could be too large for some Home Offices
Overall, I absolutely love this printer. I'm not a huge fan of HP Computers but have always loved their printers. This one was actually an upgrade from my previous HP Home printer/scanner. That one worked great for me and I was happy with it, but I decided to upgrade to this one for my home office for several improvements that I think most small offices would appreciate. First, it has a larger color screen. My old one has a very small monotone screen that was okay, but not the easiest thing to use. This one has a much larger screen that is color AND can be angled up for easy viewing - it's excellent.
The next upgrade that I love is the two large trays. Each tray will hold almost a full ream of paper AND can hold full legal size paper. This is great because you can have two different types/sizes of paper to print to at the ready any time.
The other significant upgrade is the scanning area. It's huge and can handle things much larger than a standard paper size. With this I will be able to scan anything I need to without any issues at all which is awesome.
The only thing I really miss from my old printer is the ink system. The previous HP printer I had used a reservoir system. There was a LARGE reservoir for each color ink built into the printer - you fill it up and then you're good to go until it runs out which takes a while. This printer goes back to the "old" way of using ink cartridges which won't last nearly as long. HP does of course have the Instant Ink subscription service and with the purchase of this printer, I'm getting 3 months free so I signed up to try it out and see how I like it.
Setting up the printer using the instructions provided and the app/software was fairly easy. At one point the app kinda hung on me so I just opened the HP Software App on my MacBook and that was able to easily complete the setup. Once that was done printing to it through WiFi was a breeze and my spouse could immediately print to it from his iPhone without the need to install any 3rd party software which I like.
Pages print quickly and look great. I haven't done a lot of scanning yet, but it seems to work great and I love that I can also use the feeder to scan a lot of documents at one time. Besides the convenience of WiFi printing it does have the standard cord connection in the back (cord not provided since most people won't need it). I also liked that it immediately updated the firmware itself without me having to do anything.
This is really a great quality printer with excellent "business" options that I think would be great for any small office as well as families or individuals who need something a little more robust than the standard printer.

High Capacity Home and Professional Office Printer

The OfficeJet Pro 9730e is like a deskjet version of the big laser printers you see in professional offices. It might be a little overkill for a home office, but it really depends how much you print, scan, and copy. If it’s a lot, this just might be the printer for you. With 2 separate 250 sheet paper trays, you have up to 500 pages at your disposal before needing a refill. Outside of paper capacity, it can handle wide format sizes up to 11”x17” for printing, copying, and scanning. What I especially like is the double sided print/scan/copy capability, so I can just set and forget it when doing a big run. What’s also handy is being able to turn a double sided document into a single sided one and vice versa. I’m an advocate for paper efficiency, but some things are better single sided.
In terms of setup, if you already have the HP Smart app, it’s a breeze. If you don’t, it’s a simple install and the app is actually worthwhile. However, I will caution that if you activate HP+ it will prevent the printer from being able to use third party ink cartridges. I prefer genuine HP cartridges for accuracy and compatibility sake, but the choice should always be yours. That said, you don’t need to activate HP+ to use the HP Smart app. Which is great, because it’s simple to use and proven reliable so far. It makes it easy to wirelessly print from your phone or computer, and you can upload your scans to the cloud to retrieve and share from your phone or computer. I have not experienced any paper jams yet, but there’s a large removable access panel to clear out the rear rollers if needed.
Overall, the OfficeJet Pro 9730e does a great job printing, copying, and scanning. It’s a large unit, but worthwhile if you want a deskjet version of a professional office laser printer. It’s surprisingly cheaper than I thought it would be and should be a solid value for anyone with a home or professional office setup.
PROS
- Easy to use and setup
- Wireless connectivity
- Large capacity 2x 250 sheets
- Prints and scans wide format paper as large as 11”x17”
- Serviceable rear roller
- Negative film scanner
- Easy copy and scan
- Quick scanning
- Scan to cloud or wirelessly to computer
- Double sided printing and copying
- 35 page capacity top document feeder
- Double sided to single sided copying and vice versa
- Excellent office printer
CONS
- Huge
- Activating HP+ restricts printer to only official HP cartridges

The HP OfficeJet Pro Printer comes with two printer drawers, in addition to a pull out tray. There is an HP App that you can download on your cell phone and also that can be used on the desktop. When using the cell phone, there are a variety of options that can be chosen. You can print photos, documents, scan and copy, fax, and do a camera scan through accessing the HP Smart App. You can also setup ink orders to where before your ink runs out, it will ship out to you. A nice feature. The print quality has been good. I decided to test this printer, because I was in need of a printer that could print at a pretty decent capacity. I do a lot of volunteer work and also work from home. This printer has come right on time. There is a panel that you can tap to power the printer on. There is a menu, copy, and scan, and print button displayed on the screen of the printer. To make hard copy copies, it can print large documents as well as large documents. Also, HP provides discounts on ordering ink.
PROS:
Auto sending ink subscription
Discounted Pricing
3 month trial subscription of Instant Ink
Booklet comes with it with instructions
Free delivery and recycling program
CONS: None at this time.

Basically we like this printer as there are few wide-fomat multi-function to choose from, i.e. Epson 7620WF and HP Office Jet Pro 9730e. The Epson materials are inferior and the printer is monster heavy. The HP on the other hand is a much more solid printer wnd weighs about 1/2 as much as the Epson. However, we are unable to shut the printer off without unplugging it. For this reason we give it only 3 stars.

I haven't gotten to play around with the settings to see if I can improve the picture quality- I was hoping for similar quality or better than my old Envy... I print lots of pictures for my preschool classroom, and so far this one has turned out grainy every time. Not terrible, just super grainy compared to my Envy. I'm hoping I can fix that - if so, I would give it a 5. I like the option of printing larger sized posters for the classroom, thats why I chose this one over the other model I was considering. Hopefully I didnt make a mistake- I think I would prefer better quality pictures over the bigger size.

I have been using the large-format printer from HP for decades and find that their clarity in printing color images/photos is unbeatable compared to other brands. Due to my kind of work, there are times that I need an 11x17 paper output and the HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e was the closest match to my former HP7740 Printer that eventually stopped working.

Works great. Only thing I was frustated with is that the black ink was low right out of the box. HP wouldn’t replace it. They wanted to replace the entire printer instead. So I had to purchase a new black cartridge, Which was 60 some dollars. Choke! But we needed something that would print 11x17 inch paper (also not cheap and had to order online). We needed to print engineered plans and this was on sale. It is big. Not for the average user. It works great so far.
