There are three major manufacturers that make large tank inkjet printers today. Hewlett-Packard, C, and E. They are all very similar. Generic inks can be easily brought – you can get all four colors for less than USD20 (instead of about USD15 per color), and speaking from experience, I could not tell the difference. This HP 5000 Smart Tank all in one printer is one of their most basic model. Like other models of their even from different manufacturers, you have to install the printheads. One for color, and the other for black ink. Follow the directions by the letter and do not skip anything whatsoever. If something will go wrong, this is where it will happen. Thankfully the ink is marked clearly for each color, and it is virtually impossible to fill the wrong color because the bottle will simply not fit but I bet if you try hard enough to squeeze, a drop or two of the incorrect color can get into the well, and that will be the end of the printer. Pay absolute attention when you fill the ink. There is no way to clean out or purge the well if the wrong color somehow gets in there. If you are looking for an automatic duplex printer, this is not the one. You would have to manually flip the paper over (it isn't that difficult, you just have to follow the prompt). Setting up is not difficult. You actually have to download the HP smart app to do this. I tried it on a couple of Windows computers and I had to set up via the USB cable for the first one, but for the second one, it connected through the Wi-Fi quickly. You have to have basic computer knowledge to do this I believe. For Wi-Fi set up, you of course have to know your Wi-Fi ID, and password. So you know, if you are looking for the printed manual, it doesn't come with one. It comes with a folded poster which you can easily follow. Unfortunately on the HP website, it reported "Oops" error ("we can't find that page!") When I search for the manual. The user guide, however is available here https://kaas.hpcloud.hp.com/pdf-public/pdf_7527706_en-US-1.pdf the control panel is on the left side, and it is quite small. You really do need to read the set up guide to see what the buttons do. It is very unfortunate that you cannot walk up to this printer after it is set up and easily make, say, a copy of something. They saved money by making the buttons small, and are not labeled clearly. The users (some of us anyway) will pay dearly for this. Their competitor has larger LCD screen and everything is labeled very clearly. The other smart Tank printer from Hewlett-Packard is very similar to this. HP has gone downhill to make their newer printers more difficult to use. One example is if you want to print the report, you have to press the reset button. And if you want to print the Wi-Fi network test report, then you press the information button and the resume button and the same time. How in the world would I have known this without looking at the manual? Can I say I am disappointed again? When you set up the Wi-Fi access, if you need the password or pin, opened the lid in the front where you access the ink and it is on the label inside. Again without the manual, I probably would not know this. The manual talks about this machine being able to fax. This is not a fax machine. You have to sign up for the E fax service. Anything you scan, of course can be converted to a file and can be faxed to the destination you desire. Any printer can do that. If you want to print on an envelope, you have to remove the paper in the back and insert the envelopes. There is no second manual tray for this function. Like I said, this is very basic model which will do for most people but probably not suitable for heavy-duty use. It is perfect for a college student who will end up printing a lot (or even a little, because each page is charged to them by the school, so you might as well have one of this printer that you can print a lot without worrying about going broke from paying for the inks. You could print photos with this – just use photo paper. Would I recommend this printer? For a single user that does not have to scan more than one, or two pages of documents as it doesn't have automatic document feeder, and for this user that can print for his own use. It prints about five pages per minute in color , so it isn't that bad. The recommended monthly page volume of this printer is quite low – 200-800 pages. (The input tray holds up to 100 sheets, so it really isn't for an office use to be shared with more than a couple of users. And the output tray only hose 30 pages.) But if you have to share this printer with the whole family on a full-time basis (and they print often), someone will have to add more paper frequently. (It only takes 1/5 of a ream of papers, so that tells you that it isn't one of those printers you can print and forget it. And if the previous job requires duplex, then the next job cannot be done until the first job is finished.) By the way this printer works with Microsoft Windows 10 and above and various Mac operating systems, but not for Google Chrome. One last thing that I have against using this printer in an office is that the maintenance tray cannot be replaced. With any inkjet, if you have to run a cleaning cycle, it dumps the ink into a sponge pad in a maintenance tray. For a heavier duty printer, when the sponge is completely soaked, the whole thing can be removed and replaced. The lower end models such as this one, when that happens, the printer stops working and you may need to return this to their service department to have it done professionally. I'm not even sure if this model can be replaced because I do not see a window or a lid in the back that can be opened. Many people do not think of this but then, many people do not print that many pages like I do. Overall, if this printer had existed a few years ago, it would be a state-of-the-art. It is just another printer with big and inexpensive ink tanks which will work fine for a single person. But if you can afford something more, by their higher end model which incidentally uses the same inks. It will save you the headaches and frustration of having to fill the papers and having to flip the paper if you print duplex.

So my daughter ran off to college and asked if she could take a printer with her. I asked, "The inkjet or laser?" "Both," she said. So here I am with another printer, lol. These tank printers use a reservoir like the wide format printers we use at work. And like the large format, these little will most likely need daily upkeep if you want to maintain the heads. Don't power down for more than a couple days or you'll run the risk of a clogged head. I'm not sure if squirting water or alcohol would help a clogged jet, but unless you use a filtered syringe you can risk making the clogging worse by introducing dust particles. So best case, keep in on and print something daily. I'm impressed with the speed and quality of the Smart Tank. It's as good as some of the commercial inkjets we use and the speed is so much better than what we had to deal with in the 90's and early 2k's. As long as I can keep the heads serviceable, I have no doubts that this could do work nearly as efficient as my old laser. Scanning doesn't really get a whole lot of use any more, even at work, but it's nice to have the feature if ever needed. Using it as a copier is probably what I'd use the scanning feature mostly for. Set up is pretty straightforward and didn't encounter any hiccups. Inkjet tech has come a long way and swapping a laser for an inkjet isn't the downgrade it used to be. HP has always made great inkjets (except for their Scitex, lol) and this one is a winner.

This is a pretty good overall quality printer. Post unboxing was simple setup and connection to all devices, which included laptop, tablet, and phones. The tank ink system is very simple and convenient with respect to fill and refill and is much easier to navigate than conventional cartridge style printers. Print quality on standard office style paper is good, with clear and crisp lettering when printing in color as well as printing in black and white. Photo printing is where I have found some degradation in image quality. When attempting to print large photographs, full 8 by 11 size photographs, there is some color blurring or smearing at object edges or interfaces. When looking from a distance, maybe five or more feet away, it’s not as recognizable, but once you move closer the subtle blurriness becomes a bit more pronounced. That being said, this is still a good quality printer and I’ve given it 4 stars due to the fact that for the cost, it is also a good overall value and meets or even exceeds the expected performance.

Our family usage needs a printer that is easy to use, and inexpensive to operate. Using refillable ink tanks, there was no angst waiting to get new cartridges, and the cost of them. The printer was easy to set up, and the app kept it simple. Even a 10-year-old could do it! With apps available for any platform, it’s easy to print from any device. I tested it with Bluetooth and wi-fi, and had no problems. School work, home projects, kids crafts and photos are easily done. Our family loves the new addition! It is important to have some patience using it. The quality of printing is great. Graphics and color intensive printing does happen a bit slower. It does not have duplex printing, but it does prompt you to flip the paper. The scanner performed well with both B&W and color prints. It doesn't have an auto doc feeder, so if you need that, I'd suggest another printer. As home printer, it hits the sweet spot. Low-cost ink, and basic functionality keeps it simple to use and own. I no longer cringe when the family is printing page after page, knowing that the ink cost won't break the bank.

I finally have found a printer that is perfect for my infrequent printing I need to do at home! This printer has the technology of using liquid inks in refillable tanks instead of the traditional ink cartridges. The traditional cartridges typically dry out very quickly, definitely within a year's time period. It comes with “two years of ink”, which should be more than enough for me. I am really curious to see if the ink truly holds up for the amount of time it says. Besides this technology, this printer boasts crisp, sharp printing of images and text alike. It is wifi enabled, and combined with the HP app, printing is even a breeze from your mobile device. I buy and sell a lot of baseball cards from my phone, and it is so much easier to print all of my labels quickly and conveniently from my phone. The ink bottles lock into place while refilling the printer, making messy spills pretty nonexistent. All in all, I appreciate a printer where the ink will not dry up quickly as with normal cartridges. I would gladly recommend this product to a friend!

Great output, Good Expectations, Setup Challenges

This is my first TANK based printer, so was excited to be trying this technology setup. So starting with a few of my negatives: - I really really don't like the back style feed system. While this is advantages for thick card stock, or maybe specialty paper (so if that is what you use), but if you are just using plain old paper, you can only put in about 20 sheets. And that gets problematic. I also like to have my printer on a shelf, that has another shelf above it... with the paper sticking out the back, challenge to load, but takes up so much "wasted" space. So that is frustrating - Setup. Okay the HP app sucks, it really does. Timed out, I had to restart it 3 times to complete the setup. And that had the instructions on setup. Given I haven't set a tankless printer up before, was relying on this to walk me through parts (The basics I know, but frustrating to use the app to set it up). Snapping in the print heads, took a minute, as the instructions were not all that clear on what to do and what to remove... till I took a look at a YouTube video, and figured out what I had wrong... then it was easy. - A little slow. Not sure if it is my print settings, or what I am printing, but it just isn't as fast as my other ink jet printers (and certainly not as fast as my laser printer), and you need to pull out the tray to keep the paper from falling to the floor (and that goes back to my first point, of where to put the printer... where you now have paper out the back, and need the tray out the front, really limits where you can put it) Now the good stuff: - The WiFi connection is solid, and must have a good chip set in it, as getting solid reception and not limited on it's connection speed... - Quick response.. While it does print slow, the printer does respond quickly to the command to print. - Relatively quiet... It isn't a very loud printer - Tankless ink. So this is why I wanted this printer.. I am soooooo tired of the never ending printer cartridge game. It was easy to load, not very messy. And be able to glance right at the front of the printer, and know how much ink is left, is very cool - Print quality: The print quality, is very good... Bright colors, very crisp detail. Need to get some inkjet photo paper, to really make things pop. Oh yah, and there is a scanner on this as well. I tried some simple scans and it is easy to use, will be an okay copier for one or two pages, but as I have found over the last many years... less and less need for a scanner, so this is kinda nice as it isn't a bulky add on like a multi-office unit.

    Perfect Family Printer

A printer is a printer right? Nope! I will be straight honest from the start here. I have been wanted a ink tank printer for a while now. I like to do crafts, as do my kids. I have had injets and laserjets of all types over the years, and I currently have one B/W tank printer that is a work horse at my house. It is by far my favorite printer and although it is just black and white it has incredible detail. So to finally get on board with a color version has me pretty excited. So on to this printer. The HP 5000 series is not the largest model they have in the ink tank line, but it has all you need for a family printer for your house. It is considered to be an All in one style printer, which in this case means it has the ability to scan and copy with the integrated flatbed scanner on top. Out of the box the set up was fast and seamless with the HP app. I used my iPhone and they have an android option as well. The app was very intuitive and simple to use. Once you have it connected, it will ask you to print a text page, and it shows you where to place it on the scanner to optimize the settings. Once you are done with that you are finished and you can print. Depending on the quality of the print job you want (as far as detail), the printer can print between 5 and 12 pages per minute. 12 for your black and white quick jobs, and 5 for your photo quality prints. That was according to the manual, but when I tested it I felt it did not take into consideration the fact that the printer was sitting and had to go through its warm up cycle before printing. I am not impatient, and I would prefer quality over quantity any day of the week. But just something to point out. The printer comes with reportedly two years worth of ink. It comes with four bottles of the various inks used, and the black bottle is larger than the rest. Likely because you will use more of it. The ink has a spill proof feature, where you have to press it unto the refill tank and it clicks once you go deep enough to prevent spilling. Once you remove the bottle it reseals itself again. I have kids and one in particular is a monster that will screw with anything you tell her not to. I like this feature because I don’t think anything on earth will get this ink out of carpet if that were to happen. On the initial fill, it took most of the blue, yellow and pink ink (almost all of it) and about half the bottle of the black ink. As far as paper capacity, the tray is neatly hidden on the back of the printer. I small flip of the back revealed the tray that holds about 100 sheets of paper, less if you use thicker paper or photo paper. The output tray holds about 30 pages, give or take as well, again depending on what you are using. This is a great family printer option and it is not the work horse for my family of crafters and makers. There are other options for businesses and office work, but this is perfect for my situation. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone else looking for a superior option for a home or home office printer.

No cartridges or toner, GREAT!! Easy to set up and use. Print quality is great! At $139, a good bargain. 1 year of ink is good. The ink tanks were easy to fill. One thing, your add say it is an All-in-one printer. I discovered that it did not have a fax option. Not a deal breaker, but I thought all in one included a fax option. All in all, it is a great printer and deal. I also got $30 for my old printer. It was a smooth and fast process to buy the printer, too.

Smart Accurate printer. There are quite a few steps to get this printer setup and ready for its first print. I downloaded the HP Smart app and followed the directions in the app, once it detects your printer it will walk you through step by step. It's not hard just a little time consuming to make sure you don't miss a step or forget a step. This is my first printer with refillable ink. So far there has been no mess and it's super easy to do. The bottles that come with the printer have a lid that is in such a way that it clicks onto the nipple of the ink tank on the printer and it wont allow you to spill the ink. Very well thought out. I looked online and generic replacement ink is between 30 and 40 dollars for all 4 colors. Everything is set up, ink filled, and connected to WiFi. The printer automatically prints a test page once it detects the ink is filled and the print heads are properly installed (just follow the directions in the app) The test page is also used to align the scanner which is also in the app and walks you through it. I then printed a document that has text and color images. This is a very vibrant printer, the colors appear very accurate and the black is black, not grey. I did notice it does seem a little slow but, I believe that with the way everything is printed and looks flawless that it does need a little more time to do so accurately. This printer has scanner and copier capabilities and both are very good. I scanned and then copied the document I initially printed and they all look the same. The copy was a mirror image of the original print. I would say that so far this is the best WiFi printer I've had and used over the last few years and the price is right there too. If you're looking for an accurate color printer I can easily say this is a good one.

I struggled to prepare to write this review, knowing that the true test of this printer is going to be over time, and when the ink has sat for a moment before being used. This printer feels like the 2023 version of the printer they gave me with my first laptop purchase. Quite slow printing speeds and no double sided printing make the feature list pretty bare. Not much to write home about on that front. The color printing speed is slow enough to be obstructive if you are printing color on a daily basis. I find myself printing color so infrequently that I’m more worried about how the tanks are going to perform. With ink cartridges I knew I was getting a new print head. With this system I’m not sure if the print heads are replaceable, or if there is a method to make sure they’re not clogged. The tank idea is great and I love it. I think I need to figure out how to automate a printer test sheet every week or so, to make sure the printer gets exercised. Otherwise this printer has very good quality. There are lots of reasons however to pay a few more dollars and bump up to a model that can do photo printing, more paper in the tray, and double sided printing. This one is a perfect starter or basic model.

HP is no stranger in the printer market, and their new Smart Tank Wireless all-in-one printer is a winner. Recently, some printer companies have been moving away from the old ink cartridges, and it’s for the best, included in this package is four individual bottles, that’s right, whole bottles of ink that you can now use, basically you pour them inside the printer, and now you have lots of ink for lots of printing. Printers used to follow the same principle as razors, they would sell you the handle at a cheap price, but then would charge a lot for their proprietary cartridges, same thing with printers. Well that’s changed now, you get a lot more ink now, even though I feel that the printer costs a little bit more now. There is some good and bad things about that but at least now you know what you’re getting instead of buying the expensive ink cartridges later. Lastly, I would suggest you take a few minutes to read the instructions, the first thing it tells you is that before you start printing, you’ve got to remove some packaging in and around the printer. And finally, this printer is able to print fast and print really clear, the black ink and the colors come out really good.

Hp smart Tank 5000 When looking for a new printer, there are lots of options. I prefer HP printers and now there are several tank printers. This printer is fairly light weight and I really liked how it was packaged since there are plastic handles that allow you to lift it out of the box. The printer has the HP as art App and is fairly easy t set up. Ink tank printers are ideal for those who print a lot on a daily basis so it would be good for students either with home schooling or in college. I am a little worried since I don’t print often apparently you run into ink clog problems. The real advantage of these tank printers is that you can print for up to 2 years and then there are refillable ink options. The print quality is very good but it only does one sided printing and is slower than some other printers that I have used. I’ve tested the scanning function, copy function, and printed in both color and black and white with no problems. The control panel is easy to read and understand.
