My tenant's father just so happens to earn his living as a General Handyman, so he inspected the wiring on the back of the unit and it appeared to him that it wasn't wired correctly, so he reversed a couple of leads and THAT initially appeared to solve the smoking issue. But after a short while of usage, my tenant reported that now she was getting error messages on the display. After several FRUSTRATING and LONG (i.e. OVER 1 hour long - mostly on hold listening to terribly distorted on-hold music) calls with Best Buy's customer support phone support, I eventually somehow was able to contact the original installer. Turns out, that he wired the range per the specs of the manufacturer, which were according to him, were DIFFERENT than any other range that Best Buy had him install. Long story short, that after reading many bad reviews of this range, that it was a manufacturer faulty product to begin with, and that Best Buy hastily took this product off their market. I THINK that their gas range equivalent was OK, but I'm not 100% sure of that. To make a long story longer, after actually contacting my local Best Buy store and talking with the customer service THERE, I was offered a full refund in exchange for a new Whirlpool range, which so far has serviced my tenant with no problems.
