Love this TV. The sound is great! Finally upgraded from my 1990 console and bought this. We have another Insignia in the den and bought this for the living room.

Bought this to upgrade from my 24" vizio I'd had for years. Very pleased with it just a few hours in. Picture is great and sound is very robust. Obviously it is not top of the line like a vizio or even samsung but the drop in quality is not very significant.

Bought this last week when they had a special deal of the day on it. I got it for the garage for watching football or whatever when we are out there. It has a great picture and the sound is much better than the tv that we had out there. We are thrilled with it!

Good product for a great price. It was a black Friday deal for 159.99 but was an additional 90.00 the week before. Great picture quality and very good features.

Excellent TV for the price. Great store brand. This TV is being used in a rental unit and it takes a lot of abuse - it has held up remarkably. When the time comes, I will purchase another (Open Box) Insignia TV. The TV was in excellent shape for an open box item.

I really didn't think this TV would look as good as it does. After all the price was dirt cheap so I wasn't expecting as good a pic as it has, it was for a spare bedroom anyway so I figured why not? To my surprise it has a great pic and the price was awesome!

This little gem has some of the best sound of any TV that I own...I have two 56' Panasonic TVs in my home and this TV has by far, more superior speakers! We rarely have the volume any higher than 3, as it will literally destroy the house if it is any higher!

We bought 3 of these TVs on Black Friday at an incredible price. For the money, the picture quality if outstanding. This TV is perfect for bedrooms, where I have them. Also has sufficient HDMI ports, which is not always a given with TVs of this price range.

My new tv has a lovely sharp picture. I think it is a great choice for anyone who wants a new flat screen, but can't afford or doesn't have room for a larger one.

Very nice TV. Got it on sale just prior to Thanksgiving 2015 and gave it to a child for Christmas. Exactly what they wanted, great value at $150, and decent picture quality.
Very easy to setup with the included stand (took about 5 minutes) and has worked flawlessly since.

Great TV. I purchased this on BLack Friday 2015...what a deal. Fantastic picture and looks great. Definitely recommend even at the normal sale price. I has no bells and whistles but any TV can be a smart tv by adding a ROKU or FIRE stick for cheap money.

After reading the reviews online, I thought this would be a great TV for my man cave. As most reviews said, the TV speakers leave a lot to be desired, but since I hooked it up to a stereo, I am ok with it. Very good picture for an inexpensive price tag!!

I needed a TV for the bedroom and the 40 inch class seemed to be best size. Not familiar with the Insignia brand, but picture quality is good. I am not an audiophile, so sound is OK as well. I would recommend this TV for someone looking for a second TV.

Liquid crystal based television screens have improved markedly with the introduction of light emitting diode backlighting. Basically liquid crystal screens have repeating patterns of red, green, and blue that act as "light valves" which together vary the ratios of red, green and blue that get through them. In order to function such screens need a uniform lighting method behind them in order to form images. In the past this has been fluorescent lighting that brought out a fundamental deficiency in liquid crystal based screens that that while acting as light valves they could not completely block light, that is turn absolutely black--there is always some illumination leakage. This television has the approach that obviated the problem of light leakage by using arrays of light emitting diodes that could be turned off behind the liquid crystal light valves to create dark blacks within an image. The result is very vivid color that this television obviously presents.
Two other inherent problems of liquid crystal based screens are "refresh rate" and "viewing angle". Refresh rate means how fast individual frames that comprise a moving image can be presented to the viewer and viewing angle is how bright the screen image appears when not directly viewing the screen; in other words how much the viewed image appears to dim when not viewing the liquid crystal based screen head on.
In terms of refresh rate this television can present a moving image frame 60 times per second (60Hz) as opposed to those at a significantly higher price point that can present moving image frames
120 times per second (120Hz). The difference between the two is a question of viewer perception as to how "jerky" a moving image might appear. Most folks can't discern between the two and for two hundred bucks 60 Hz looks just fine on this screen.
Without going into excruciating engineering technical detail the viewing angle issue inherent in liquid crystal based screens is readily compensated for by specialized layers of suitable plastic films that are incorporated in the screen construction. This television has very good viewing angle compensation.
When on sale for $200 this television is a steal. It also makes a fantastic computer monitor as well. Although this reviewer has never been an ardent fan of liquid crystal based screens, given a very strong bias toward plasma screens, for two hundred bucks this television was irresistible. It also has great sound.

we purchased this tv as a christmas gift for my elderly mother. She was watching a teeny tiny tv in her living room. Any guest she had was truely unable to see the tv. With this new tv, everyone in the room can enjoy the same program. Nice tv for a very reasonable price

I did not have any prior experience with this brand, but decided to take a chance since the price was unbeatable, and so far I'm glad I did. Easy setup, very clear picture, and excellent sound.
