    Horrible Audio Quality & More

    Posted
    Austin

Everything about the microphone was horrible. The cord was too short, moving the micrphone's position (rotating it up or down) snapped something off within the microphone that rattled around within the microphone, the volume button was stuck after changing the volume of it a little bit, and when I actually went to record, I couldn't even HEAR MYSELF over the obnoxious humming the microphone had (I am in a completely silent, and sound proofed room). When I went into Adobe Audition and removed the noise, it was still horrible. When I could actually hear myself, I was too quiet. I STILL couldn't hear myself, and when I increased the audio gain (not the external speaker volume, the audio's volume itself), the hum was back and worse than ever, still nearly muting my voice. After extensive noise reduction, I was limited to what I believe was my voice (it sounded like I was listening to myself through one really, really long tunnel. Please, for my sanity and yours, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MICROPHONE. I'm sorry, but $20 is not going to get you a good microphone. A $20 headset could do better.

    A decent USB microphone

I needed a USB microphone that was both economical and had good enough sound quality to record my voice for PowerPoint presentations and such. This microphone meets my requirements. Obviously if you're doing more voice-intensive things, you're probably going to want to invest in an actual professional-caliber microphone. However, for the amateur voice narrator who just needs to record his or her voice for business presentations (or school and such), then this is perfect. The voice recording quality is fine. Do note, if you sit too close to the microphone, there may be snaps and pops because your voice speaking into it is too loud, so it is necessary to find a balance of distance between the speaker and the microphone. I suppose this is true of all microphones, since I'm not too familiar with the audiology.

I bought this microphone, because my ACER monitor did not have one. I use it to send requests to SIRI and to dictate text for email. I assume that the Insignia Microphone comes with its own voice recogntion capability, since I didn't have to install any software. I just plugged the microphone into the USB port of my Apple Mini. I cannot compare this product's voice recognition accuracy to other products, since this is the first time I've used this technology. However, I can say I'm satisfied with this product's performance. You may need to turn up the volume and enunciate clearly in the event it can't accurately transcribe what you say. You can also spell the words as an alternative. It's a good bargain for the price.

I needed a microphone for my desktop computer. I was looking for something that plugged directly into the sound card, but couldn't find anything, This mic plugs into a USP port and I doubted it would work, but at $10, I decided to try it anyway. I'm glad I did. It works very well and I've received comments on how good the audio sounds. I highly recommend this inexpensive microphone, because of it's sound quality and ease of use. However, don't forget to move the slider switch to the ON position and adjust for full input. Both controls are on the front of the mic base.

Primarily used for MMORPG voice chat (WoW ventrillo). If you're home, use this instead of headset, more comfy and won't hurt your ears. Sound can be delivered by PC speakers anyway. Shame so few manufacturers make this nowadays. In fact, when I'm not at home and need to voice chat with MMORPG friends with my laptop, I'll will use Skull Candy headphones and a Targus lapop mic, because I hate PC gamer headsets. Expensive and uncomfortable (as in hurt your hears, at least over time). Not worth it. If you're home and none are bothered by the noise, PC mic and your PC's speakers are the way to go.

I needed a computer mic to replace the gong headset I was using to talk to my friends on skype and teamspeak. I only wanted a standalone mic due to the uncomfortableness I felt wearing a headset for hours on end. This mic works perfectly when paired with headphones or with computer speakers, I haven't had a problem with it picking up a lot of background noise or echoes when using speakers. It also produces a clear sound when I do voice tests or have friends check how I sound. It is very easy to use. All you do is plug it into one of your sub ports on your computer and then have it go through a setup wizard, and then it's ready to go.

Bought this to go with a new pc build back on 2/16/19. I run a home-based business and dabble a little into gaming. So far this cheap mic ($19.99 at time of purchase) has been a champ. Its plug and play and has worked great for Skype, dragon dictation, and Dischord. The only issue I have noticed so far is if I have the input volume turned all the way up (default in the box apparently), the sound plays back distorted. So turn the little volume knob down a little bit and you'll be good to go.

White noise. Incompatible with win7 and 10

I bought this product on April 27 2016 and tried it on both my Dell and Toshiba laptops. I had previously used logitech mics. Insignia sounded inferior because of white noise in background. When I called Insignia tech support I was told it is because the latest op system it is compatible with is XP. I asked him how long ago the mic was made. He said 2 years ago. I asked him if he thought that was a bit strange that the mic was made after win7 was the common op system but is not compatible with win7 or 10. He said yes. But then went into some sort of story about how this is not uncommon to have this happen. I would not buy an insignia product again.

I have a great set of Sennheiser headphones and I didn't really want to invest in a gaming headset nor a really expensive podcast/streamer mic. So I opted for this much cheaper option and I'm very pleased. Works well enough to have it on the left side of my keyboard and with push-to-talk people can hear me without having to lean forward during gaming sessions. If you already have headphones this is a great option for communication across the internet.

I bought this for web chats and conference calls. It does a great job and sound is clear for the price. I do have issues with Windows 10. Every time I start up the web chat app or my laptop in general, I have to reinstall the mic every time. I'm sure this is a driver issue and will improve as people complain to Microsoft, but I typically have a couple mins to do this before I need to use the mic so I'm not peeved by it. For the price, that is a small consolation. If you need your mic on the fly and have windows 10, please first web search any problems with this mic and your laptop model. I have an Asus. Good luck!

I purchased this microphone because, as a student that takes online courses, our teacher required that we record our assignments, but the microphone on my laptop was not working. A solution to the problem was to purchase a microphone to plug into my laptop and I wanted something quick and economical. This did the trick just fine. The sound quality isn't the finest so this isn't if you want super clear audio. But if you just want to record on a laptop this will work just fine. It is very easy to use and I am satisfied with this purchase overall. I only took off one star because of the sound quality.

    Quite bad.

Being only 20 bucks, I was not expecting too much, however this thing is quite bad... The actual audio quality is just OK, but there is a constant buzzing accompanying it. Playing CSGO, which is a game where teamwork is key in competitive modes, and people were telling me to just stop using my mic because of how terrible it is... Promptly returning and shelling out 30 extra for a Blue mic. I also tried playing with the gain settings and you can get the buzz to go away, but then you can barely be heard...

    Doesn't work well with desktop

I purchased this in store, as it seemed to be a good quality and was exactly what I was looking for. I plugged it into my computer, and I didn't notice for quite a while (as I never listened to my own audio) that there was an ever-present buzzing. Unfortunately, this sound has never gone away (and is not a grounding issue) but rather picking up interference from the PSU in my desktop. So basically it turned out to be a complete waste of money and I am now considering buying a different microphone as this one is useless to me.

Extremely easy to use. Just plug in the USB --microphone settings in Windows 10 automatically located and selected the device. I would have given a 5-start rating, but the product insert says it has an LED light to display on/off status. I do not see a light on the desktop unit, only the on/off switch. That would have been nice as I was used to confirming off/on status this way on my old Logitech USB Mic that I am replacing. Othrwise, it does a great job.

This is a low-cost mic and the performance is commensurate with the price. It works fine for webinars, skype etc. However, if you plan on using this for recording musical instruments and the like, it can be quite tricky to get a good sound with no distortion. The final point is that this mic can generate a significant DC hum from a computer or laptop. For a quality recording, you may have to clean-up the noise with an audio editing program like Audacity.

I use this microphone when dictating through Dragon NaturallySpeaking on my computer. What has amazed me about it is that it works as well as a headset. Previously, I could not count on a open microphone to capture what I was dictating accurately. There would be too many errors. That is no longer the case and I am impressed at how easy it captures what I am saying and it is priced considerably lower than its competition.

I had my doubts as it felt like it was made out of cheap plastic. I was pleasantly surprised. I wanted something that was inexpensive and would enable me to record narration on a powerpoint presentation for a project in a class I was taking. This microphone worked great. It was inexpensive and was very easy to use. The sound was clear and it served its purpose well.

I originally bought his 'mike' with the intent to explore using it to communicate by Skype. I haven't done that yet, but my SUPER ASUS computer and Windows 10 encourage me to use a mike to ask questions of CORTANA, the problem/search shortener/generally WISE facet of Win 10, and I use the mike daily, often, to ask CORTANA questions. The communication with this mike is flawless and it certainly saves a great deal of typing (which for such an elderly person as myself is important). I really couldn't do without it!

As we all know by now, Windows 10 came with a little feature called Cortana. A simple program that works like Siri (for all of you iPhone owners out there.) So, I figured I'd buy an inexpensive microphone to try it out. Well, this one fit the bill. Not only is it inexpensive, but it works better than I imagined it would. I have a very deep, raspy voice, that many Robo programs on the phone have problems with. Not so with this microphone. But I won't be doing any singing with it! Ha!
