Yesterday I was outside and decided to get something out of my detached garage. Previously, I would have had to go inside and get my garage door key or start my car to use the HomeLink button in it. Now, I just raise my arm, say "Hey Siri" to my Apple Watch and then say "Open the Garage Door". Seconds later, I hear several beeps from the Insignia controller and the door starts opening. Later, when I was done, I walked out the garage, raised my arm, said "Hey Siri, close the Garage door", heard the door start closing, and entered the house without watching it close. Pretty easy setup and so far, 48 hours into using it, has worked flawlessly with HomeKit. Shows current open/close status in the Home app as well. My spouse is part of our "Home" in HomeKit and immediately received garage door open/close notifications as well without any configuration once I added the controller to the Home app. Also being a detached garage, I was pleasantly surprised that my wifi signal is strong enough that the controller hasn't had issues yet.

Wasn't working good at first but found the issue

I installed it (very easy) and tested it while standing in the garage. And it worked great. Nothing really to it. Then as I started using it there seemed to be issues. I would sit in the driveway trying to get it to work. It would just try to open and couldn't. Sometimes it would work. And couldn't figure out my problem. Finally it hit me to turn off my wifi on my phone while pulling up to the house. And it started working everytime! My issue was my wifi router would connect as I pulled up to the house but would have one bar signal. And wasn't really sending the commands to the controller. But when I turn off wifi as pulling up it works perfectly. The other way around this issue is to open the garage door before getting in range with the wifi router. If you have a great wifi router that covers your driveway with signal you won't have this issue. I am looking into getting a router with better range.

I previously tried one of the Chamberlain units at Best Buy but could get it to work. This unit was much easier to setup. The issue I ran into is that if I gave instructions to open or close the door, the app always thought the instruction was successful even if it wasn't. For example if I said to close the garage door, sometimes it would fail to close. But the app believed it was closed. This only happened about 20% of the time but that meant I could never trust it going forward.

Installs easy. Worked great at first. Then had to reach out to support because it’s not working great and it won’t let 2 phones control it. Apparently after a few days of trying to get answers I’m going to have to remove it to try and do a firmware update. Which you think it’d do itself being connected to the WiFi.

This Wi-Fi garage door controller works great with Apple HomeKit and I was still able to use my other remotes without changing any settings on my garage door opener. The set up was pretty easy to follow. The only downside is this product does not have it's own app to assist with setup or change settings.

Works quite well most of the time...It was a breeze to install (Approx 10 min). Once it was connected to homelink, it worked on first try. Sometime I get the error, accessory not found, not sure whether that is on Apple or Insignia. Best part is you can check whether Garage is open or Closed

The product works perfectly if you have great WiFi. I have a detached garage, and, although my Rachio works perfectly, this device has connection issues. I contacted the support team and was assisted by the engineering team, but it didn’t really help much. I’ll be upgrading to a better WiFi system later this year, so I expect my experience to get better then. I also don’t like how it only works with HomeKit. I’ve made sure all my other smart devices work with all the major platforms, but this one only works with HomeKit.

Installation was a bit harder than it needed to be. When you are connecting the device to your home network, make sure your iPhone is on the 2.4ghz network. You will then need to go to your wifi settings on your phone to transfer login credentials to the controller. I found this on accident after 3 tries to get the controller to connect. Also buy fresh batteries because I was getting false notifications about the door being opened or closed. New batteries solved this issue.

Installation was not hard. Configuring was easy. Operationally it works, but there is delay in updating the status in the Apple Home which can be annoying. Notifications works most of the time. I reset the door monitor when I stopped getting open or closed notifications. That seemed to get things back on track.

I have used other brands that have been a pain to use and setup. This by far is the most practical and quick solution for making your garage doors smart. Plug the base in and screw two wires in to your motor and your good to go. Works perfect with apple home kit.

Easy installation and ridiculously cheap. It turned my 20+ year old garage door opener into a smart device. I no longer have to use the brick that is my garage remote, but simply say “hey Siri, open garage door.” Awesome!

Easy setup. My garage door has a learn function and it works great. It doesn't use the learn function at all. Use the included wire and attach to your remote button wires hanging on your wall. The direction are easy to read. Home app and hey Siri function works great. Strong 2.4ghz wireless connection is required. I have orbi mesh system and the satellite is in my garage.

I've had this Insignia smart garage door for a month and a half now and I can safely say it just does not work. I was reluctant at first to purchase because of a few "no response" errors many reviewers were giving. I was plagued with that error a week and a half ago. It's a battle that I am giving up on. I tried everything from removing it from homekit (multiple times,) hard resetting my phone, removing and adding users, changing my wireless router settings, reconnecting the door sensor, and it would works once afterwards then stops. It worked great for a month but thank God I am an elite member, because it's getting returned this afternoon. My garage is directly underneath where our router is, so signal was not an issue. I don't understand why (at time of writing this review) the Insignia app does not have this garage door open as part of it's interface. I suspect everything that is wrong is software related, and could be fixed with updates via the insignia app! I mean come on man, it's 2019. The opener shows a solid green light indicating it is connected to wifi, and if the door opens or closes our phones will notify of these actions us but yet "no response" making it completely useless. I'm switching to the other brand. Maybe in the future these software glitches will be fixed, but I suspect the 4-5 star reviews are from folks that have only had it a day or two. Wait a month or 2, you'll be singing a different tune.

The setup was super easy and it easily was input into my HomeKit setup. That was the good. The bad was that I was receiving a closed door notification every minute on all of my devices after setting it up. After repairing the door sensor and resetting the base unit it began to work. A new product out of the door should not take setup. Please update your firmware BestBuy!

I purchased this at the higher price, and since then it has halved in price. Definitely worth it if you use HomeKit to control your smart home. Setup is fairly straightforward. Installed it in about 10 minutes with a ladder (as long as you have available outlets near the garage opener.

Pro— Stays reliably connected with HomeKit Works with basically any garage door opener Haven’t yet run into a problem that hasn’t been fixed with a restart Con— HomeKit is seemingly the only connection option Occasionally reports status incorrectly—the door will be closed but still registers as open, or it reports an obstruction when none is there. This is seemingly a problem with the door sensor part not reporting the status correctly to the main base, and both issues can be resolved either by opening/closing the door again or by pressing the button on the door sensor. On the whole, it’s over 90% accurate, but for the times is isn’t, I’m glad I can check my Simplisafe system’s open/close sensor for the door to verify that the door sensor is *actually* closed. If you’re looking for a perfect, never-fiddly experience for a garage door opener, this isn’t it, but it *is* native HomeKit and is widely compatible. For me it was an acceptable trade off, but your mileage may vary.

OMG it's such a relief to find a device that actually works out of the box and as intended. I had originally purchased the Chamberlain MyQ HUB (from Best Buy) only find out I had to get another MyQ product to get HomeKit support. Stupid, right? Well, Chamberlain thinks it's a good idea. Anyway, bought the MyQ Home Bridge and no matter what I did, it would never work reliably. I ended up cutting my losses and dumping them on eBay and got the Insignia instead. It's been ROCK SOLID and setup was a breeze. I have NONE of the issues stated by others here. I can kick myself for not getting the Insignia in the first place - vs wasted $$ and time trying to get the MyQ to work. All in all, I couldn't be happier with my purchase,

(7/20/2019) This is my first entry into smarthome devices. It was super easy to set up with nothing to configure, my iPhone did all of the configuration for me. I just synced it up in the same room as my router then went downstairs and plugged it into the garage outlet, stuck the sensor on the door and presto! I have a garage door that I can command through my apple watch or phone! One small thing that impressed me was the inclusion of a small screwdriver to put the battery in the sensor that goes on the door ... that was classy. Through Apple HomeKit I have configured it to automatically open the door when my wife gets home and automatically close it when she leaves. I can see on the app if the door is open or closed. Great piece of mind. I’ve only had it is week so I’ll update if my opinion changes
