I can't tell you how much I want to love this purchase. I'm a bachelor who keeps a fairly need house, but doesn't do things like sweep/vacuum as much as I should. I work a fairly consistent schedule which means I can program my Roomba to run when I'm not there so I don't even have to be disturbed while it does it's job. Seems like a perfect fit. And yet I'm struggling to fully endorse this product. Does it clean well? Yes...when it actually cleans. I have a mix of hardwood and carpet in my home and it does a great job on both. It gets under furniture. I'm always amazed when I watch it navigate the tangle of table/chair legs in my kitchen where it does an impressive job of keeping my floors spotless. It even does a decent job on the rug in my bathroom. So what's the problem? My Roomba gets stuck/confused and shuts itself down waaaaaaay to easily and waaaaay too frequently. At first it kept getting stuck on a rug with long tassels on the end. Understandable and not a problem...I've needed an excuse to replace that rug anyway. Then it kept getting hung up on a corner of my large living room rug where it would get boxed in between the rug, a wall, and my couch. So I rearranged my furniture a bit to keep the rug closer to the wall so the Roomba wouldn't be able to squeeze in that area. Problem solved I thought. That's when the fun really started. My Roomba is scheduled to run every morning after I leave the house Monday-Friday. In the last two weeks (10 weekdays) it has made it back to the charger on it's own exactly...one time. Every day I come home and play "Find the Roomba" to see what it's managed to get stuck on so it could quit cleaning. A couple times it was stuck under a night stand that it has to hit it straight on in order to get under it, but then can't seem to find it's way out. It still finds new ways to get stuck on the other corners of my living room rug. And my new favorite: I've come home multiple times to find it just sitting at the stop of a staircase. The thing that frustrates me is that when I find it stuck I simply move it and inch or two and restart it and it seems to behave just fine; it completes its cleaning cycle and returns to the charger. I've watched it navigate those same obstacles numerous times without issue, yet when I'm not here it seems to get confused way too easily. I honestly sometimes feel like my Roomba is a child: with supervision it does exactly what it's supposed to do. Without supervision, it seems like it gets distracted quits working. Another child-like quality: I keep trying to remove the things that are preventing it from behaving (like problematic rugs), yet it just keeps finding new creative ways to get in trouble again. While I do love the fact that my Roomba does in fact do a great job of cleaning my floors without me having to physically vacuum or sweep, I'm just really frustrated that it can't seem to do it consistently during its scheduled times. That was a big selling point for me: being able to run it when I'm not here. Instead I find myself having to listen to it and dodge it for the first 45 minutes every day when I get home from work. And the thing is, my house is VERY easy to navigate. Clutter and pet-free, mostly hardwood floors, a handful of furniture pieces, and a one large/high-pile rug to avoid. Yet it gets stuck over 80% of the time it runs. So I'll give it three stars for it's cleaning abilities, but that's the best I can do given it's poor track record with cleaning without manual intervention. If I could reverse the ratio and only have to give it assitance once every ten times it ran - heck, even once every five - I would give this product five stars. Unfortunately at this point I'm just too sick of finding it stranded in random parts of my house.

I thought this product would clean my whole house by itself but unless you physically move it to the other rooms it will pretty much clean the same area over and over again. It also goes in circles and returns to the same spot without going to different areas of the house. If I put it in the rooms far from the docking station it does not find it's way back and I have retrieve it. I want to return it.

    Not For Me

I have a reasonably open floor plan, with a kitchen that leads into an open dining area and living room, with a half wall separating the living room with another and lightly furnished area. Within a few mins of operating, the roomba was 75% to make it's way over to the dining room table and get stuck between chairs. I probably could have removed the chairs from the room (I don't have chairs that I could flip and rest easily on the top of the table) and the roomba would likely have been okay cleaning around and underneath the table. For the 25% of the time that the roomba wouldn't quickly find it's way to the table and get stuck, it would haphazardly bump it's way around the other rooms, never quite going over the whole floor. Although, what it did go over, it cleaned pretty well. I ended up returning it. Even if I were okay with moving my chairs into another room every time it ran, I'm not okay with spending over $300 on a vacuum cleaner that only mostly cleans my floors

I initially bought this for my new basement carpet, which my basement is a very classic billiard theme, with a Vegas style black carpet. I found out after the fact that it won't work on a black carpet. The edge sensors 'think' roomba is at the edge of stairs.... I tried all the YouTube hacks to cover the sensors and was still a no go. Very very disappointed that with today's technology iRobot does not have a fix for this. Even if you have black swirls or other black patterns on a light carpet Roomba will stop and go the other way. I am using Roomba for my main level carpet which is beige. Works fine for the most part and is somewhat entertaining to watch. It often gets stuck and I have to bail it out. Sometimes I have to search the house to find it. When it gets stuck, it gives a warning and shuts off. If you don't hear the warning then it's 'where is Roomba' search time. Maybe the more expensive models have proved the ability to send a signal from the base back to Roomba to give off a 'I'm over here' sound or a wifi feature on your phone. You also need to stay on top cleaning it as the manufacturer recommends. Hair has a tendency to wrap around the rear roller. The cleaning tools provide only do a fair job at cleaning these. I probably would not buy another one of these until the Manufacturer figures out how to handle black carpet.

    Solid Machine

Had this for roughly 3 1/2 years before it started to die out on me. When I initially bought this machine, research indicated that the lithium battery would start to die out after year one. Based off of that info, I did purchase geek squad and was able to get 3 1/2 years out of the vacuum. When it was in its prime, we ran it once a day in our bedroom to clean up after two large dogs and it did a solid job. Not nearly as good as our Dyson but for in between jobs we were pleased. As the end came near, the battery would wear down to the point that it could no longer make it back to the charging base so I know it was time to exercise the geek squad option. Simply brought the machine to customer service, and was giving a gift card for our original purchase amount.

This is my second Roomba, and I still think they're useful, though maybe not worth the ever-higher prices. This one gets stuck underneath furniture far too easily, and must be extracted by hand. It also rarely (never) re-docks itself. I use it because I have tile floors and can let it run for a while before I mop, giving me a little more time since I don't have to vacuum beforehand.

We got this to do a daily light cleaning. It achieves our goal 1 in 3 times. It has problems returning to the base and is quite limited in a location for the base. It can't be tucked out of site and emerge to clean like we hoped. This is not totally worthless, as we are a family of 5 with 2 dogs and it does help with dirt and dust but just not quite the Jetson future we hoped, at least not for the price.

It handles pet hair like a champ but I've only used the random setting so sometimes it gets stuck in the bedroom and its kind of loud but still a great bang for your buck

It will navigate a room and leave it looking clean just fine. It will go up onto rugs fine. I returned mine because it would get caught on little stuff like a stray sock and just be a sitting duck. I don't think that makes it bad by any means, but if I already have to manually "pave the way" for it to work, most of the point of the automation for me is defeated; I might as well vacuum by hand and avoid these things myself. It's either 20 minutes manually vacuuming my apartment or just as long hunting under the couch etc for stray stuff that might leave it stuck.

    Irobot Roomba 650 series

Over the past 5 years we have purchased two IRobot Roomba's prior to the 650 series. We have the 780 and 625 series, which the 625 had many problems, but ran great when working. The 780 model has been amazing. Our 625 series is in need of a battery replacement, etc. So my husband bought me the 650 for Christmas. Since taking out of the box....it has many malfunctions. Or IRobot has done some questionable upgrades. The 650 series must be started from the home base. The "dock" button does not work and Roomba has much difficulty in attempting to return to home base and set properly for charging. We have received charging errors as it did not dock correctly and we have had to reset Roomba's system. Anyway, called bestbuy and advised as an elite plus member I have a 45 day return policy and we are returning and upgrading to the 870. I would recommend Roomba, as I believe we just purchased a lemon.

I bought the roomba because I have read amazing things about it. I wasn't as happy with my purchase as others were. I turned it on it started swiveling around and did pick up after itself but kept returning to the same places and did not go to all parts of the room. I was hoping it would also go under my couch but couldn't make it. I like the idea of the product and for the locations it actually does pick up it does a great job but it doesn't vacuum the whole room.

Having a large hairy dog and sweeping every day was getting tire of it. It was either shaving my beautiful huskies' hair or investing in this Roomba. I named her Lucy but Lucy is a little too loud for my taste so cannot put her to work at night or in the mornings. Lucy did not come with a remote and I have to place her where I need her to sweep. Sometimes she doesn't perform as well as I expect her to. Overall, 3 out of 5 due to loudness.

Convenient not to have to sweep when there are other priorities. A bit on the noisy part. Small little robot, gets itself out of tight places. It has gotten stuck, however, in two places in my home and it shuts off stating "error." I thought it was to remember such things as where NOT to go, but it goes back and gets stuck in same spot. Overall, it's a good little vacuum.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. It is nice being able to just push a button and have the floor clean in an hour or so. The downsides: - Cleaning the Roomba - Long hair is a HUGE pain to clean out of the brush and the axels. No matter how long I spend cleaning after, there's always some left over. There is also hair stuck on the axels on both sides of the brush and rubber piece that I don't think will ever come off. - Damaging itself - The 1st day we used the Roomba, we left it in the living room while it cleaned and came back to the front scratched very badly. The front of our fireplace has a concrete slab with about a 1 inch lip. Apparently the Roomba really wanted to get up there, and kept ramming into this until it finally made it up. So now we have to block this area off, which isn't the end of the world, but kind of a pain. In the end, it is much easier than using a normal vacuum, and our apartment is always vacuumed with how easy it is.

I've had it for a bit over a month now. It cleans okay for the most part. Probably because it cleans the same spot 10 times. It goes in these crazy patterns but still manages to hit most of the area. The vacuum get stuck under the dining room table and under the beds. Don't forget to move the dog bowls..

I Robot Roomba 650 Self Charging Robot Black. Reason for not 5 stars is high maintenance to keep sensors free of dust. Concrete painted floors with indoor/outdoor carpets at each door. Sometimes Roomba gives cliff alert when stuck needs assistance to relocate or clean sensors with compressed air can. Does a good job going over most surfaces. Disappointed that this version did not come with virtual barrier must purchase dual barrier pack for 99 + dollars. Added plus is mobile app will allow to start and check status of unit from phone.

For some reason doesn't seem to work as well at my house as it does at my daughter's. Get stuck in spots and doesn't really get my wood floors all that well. Better than nothing but I'm still having to pull out the vacuum a couple of times per week.

Does a great job cleaning. But the charging stand is very light and the roomba tends to push it around when trying to connect to charge and after numerous fails I always have to place it on the stand to charge once the room is clean.
