I purchased this microwave solely based on it being the only model that I could find that opened and closed quietly. The sound of my family slamming the microwave door drove me crazy so when my Kenmore Elite started to run when the door was open and not run when it closed I jumped at the chance to try and find a quiet microwave. My search consisted of me opening and closing the door of every unit on display. This KitchenAid was the clear winner. I paid for a convection element that I may never use just for the almost slam-proof door. This oven looks very nice in my kitchen and it is so quiet! I can hardly tell that it’s running. Had no idea that my former unit was so loud. The exhaust fan is loud however. I only have 2 complaints: you can’t pause to check your food then resume with the remaining time. You have to press cancel then start over. And I don’t think you can turn off the reminder sound. It’s either all sound off or on. The reminder beep is annoying. Oh, one more con is that if you put something in the microwave and don’t start it right away you have to open and close the door again to turn it on. I don’t know how long the lag is, I’ve never timed it but it’s annoying that I can’t put a bowl of soup in the oven, let it sit for a few minutes while preparing other stuff then start the soup without the thing making me open and close the door. Overall I do like this microwave. When my fridge goes I’m going to buy a KitchenAid to match.

This is a great appliance. Quiet in microwave mode. Convection mode is a little noisy but no more than any other convection oven. I had dismissed reviewers who complained that controls weren’t backlit or otherwise more visible in the dark, but turns out their complaints were legit. Doesn’t bother me much but I’ve found myself wishing I could see the controls better when the lights are off (pic I attached was taken in dark kitchen. Controls are completely dark but the flash highlighted them). I often use my under cabinet lighting at night but it doesn’t light up the front of the microwave. The door is huge and seems a bit cumbersome, but I knew that when I bought this. Just thought I’d mention these cons and validate them as legit concerns. However everything else about this microwave is great so I’d definitely recommend it. These cons might cause me to give it 4.5 stars instead of five—reflected this by giving four stars for ease of use (other than these cons it’s very easy to use, tho).

It was with some hesitation that I spent as much as this microwave costs but my history with KitchenAid has been solid. (I have several other appliances and small appliances from KA.) This was my first KA microwave and, with my gas range, I needed a 400 CFM exhaust fan so this was distinctly ahead of the other brands/ offerings. The true bonus lies in the convection oven features. The programming is great with a manual option to allow for baking/ roasting anything that will fit as well as my KA gas range does without heating the entire kitchen. The ventilation is quiet and powerful unlike my past GE profile or LG over the range models. The microwave itself is very capable and powerful. I prefer my vegetables only barely steamed or cooked and the steamer sensor function results in a perfect product for cauliflower and broccoli. I have successfully experimented with steaming eggs and am confident that this can be perfected in time. I would recommend this to anyone in any situation. There is a bit more stainless around the face of the unit due to the door closure lipping-over the edge a bit which gives this a nice, overall clean look - not to mention the bright and wonderful stainless interior.

This microwave is fantastic! It is quiet, heats up food very well, and looks great. I love how easy it is to clean and all of the functionality. Installation was clear, and I have had no issues since. Would definitely recommend.

Will see how it holds up. This micro replaced a Whirpool Gold version of the same unit that was problematic. We went with this one because installation was exactly the same. The Kitchenaid is probably 50% more quiet than the Whirlpool and I like that it has the stainless interior instead of the supposedly non-stick interior of the Whirlpool. Unfortunately, the unit was damaged and had a dent at the bottom corner, which also pushed up the casing a bit at the upper corner. I managed to not notice this until after the unit was installed or I probably would have exchanged it. It's disappointing, but not sure it is worth the hassle to remove the unit again and try to get fixed or exchange. The packaging seemed fine, so maybe happened before shipping? Maybe change the casing if it comes out again for another reason. One thing I find odd is that the KA has a larger turntable than the Whirlpool, but the exact same convention rack. In the Whirlpool, the rack fit in the turntable and didn't move around. In the KA, it slides all over the place because it doesn't fit. Trying to find out if it is even the right one. Seems strange. Will update as necessary, but seems good so far.

This is no ordinary microwave oven. With the convection baking it becomes a secondary oven during busy holiday times. With a clean and professional exterior that opens up to a spacious interior. Compared to my prior KitchenAid this unit is much quieter

I read the reviews on several convection microwaves. I decided to buy this one after shopping around because I bought a floor sample at an excellent price. I haven't used any of the upgrades but it is a beautiful appliance. It is nearly silent when warming.

Our 10+ year old Whi****ol microwave bit the dust just before Christmas. We had already remodeled our kitchen with this series of KitchenAid oven, warming drawer & induction cooktop. Everything now matches and this unit is sooooo much quieter than our old one, we can hardly tell when it's on. Cooking end chime is pleasant and quiet, great stainless interior, nice controls, HUGE door.

Microwave is excellent quality and very quiet. Controls are a bit wonky at first, but doesn't take long to get used to them. Also, I installed this microwave myself and the instructions weren't very clear. If you've never installed a microwave before, opt for the installation. Overall, excellent product! (don't mind the range in the pic, that's next to be replaced!)

I have had this microwave about a month. I have the entire KA Black Stainless suite and this microwave was the last piece purchased. It looks great and the convection oven feature is really handy but does have a learning curve to it. It is not too bad to keep clean. The inside got really greasy when I cooked with the convection the first time, but it was easy to clean. Backlit keys would be nice at night. The fan automatically turns on when the stove makes the microwave too hot which is nice. It is eerily silent from the operation to the button sounds. I have baked cookies, made chicken breasts, chicken thighs and pizza so far using convection and all were great. I have mine venting outdoors (the fan) and that works well. The fan is not loud even on the highest setting. The microwave is huge but it does not look bad over the KA black stainless gas range I have. It does stick out beyond cabinets, but it doesn't look bad.

When we began searching for a replacement microwave, I had only a few requirements on the list (after all it's something we've used for years to heat up stuff quickly). I wasn't looking for one that was also a convection oven. It has been very easy to pick-up on how to use it. My wife's first day she prepared a turkey breast using the convection feature (something I was skeptical about) and it was great. Frozen pizzas now go in here and are done faster than in either of our other (2) ovens. Cleans up very easily. We have ours vented through ducting outdoors and it works much better & quieter than our previous microwave. The tone that plays when it's done is a little on the quiet side (if that's a concern for some), although I find it more pleasant than the beeping our old one did. I can't speak to the long term reliability of this unit (only had it a few weeks). So, far it seems much more substantial in build quality than the previous one we had. My wife has been very happy with it. She says that the oven is more intuitive than our previous one. I initially was skeptical about purchasing something this feature rich (figured most of it wasn't necessary) but, after a few weeks of use.. it would be hard to go back to our old unit. Pleasantly surprised.

When we originally started looking for a microwave we were unaware of the option of having it also be a convection oven. So when we decided to buy a new appliance suite we started looking at Kitchenaid and wanted our microwave to match our fridge, dishwasher and range. The fact that this doubled as a microwave and an oven was amazing. We didn't have to compromise the size of the oven on our slide in range to try to get a model with two. We were able to get the standard oven size on our slide in and use this as a second/double oven instead. And boy does it deliver. We have baked and cooked in it and it does both just as well as our regular oven does. It is large on the inside and comes with racks for baking and a glass plate for microwaving. The microwave works great and the popcorn function is fantastic. It actually listens to the pops to keep your popcorn from getting burned. I was skeptical at first but it has worked perfectly everytime. It is features like that that show just how well thought out this product is. It's quiet, easy to operate, great to look at (the black stainless is amazing) and functions perfectly. Couldn't be happier.

This oven is a major improvement over the last kitchen aid in terms of looks and operational quietness. The fan can get loud in a high pitch way. In my last, air flow noises were more noticeable. With ghis one its fan motor noise. Sounds more like a turbine. Everything else works well. But get used to the larger size. The dimmensions are larger than spec except for width. Which is spot on. Cosmetically, init looks more upscale. Best buy did an outstanding job installing the unit.

The handle and door frame finally bit the dust on our 2002 microwave. If you want one that is going to last, choose this one. After reading the near-universal 5-star reviews, the wonderful visited my local Best Buy the store intending to buy a cheaper model with wi-fi, which was not on display. This one was on display -- and the solid, quiet, non-rattle click of the door and the metal door frame sealed it for me right on the spot. Didn't even try to visit the other store to see the next model down, which had some reports of door handle breaking. This is a gorgeous, quality piece of kitchen equipment! The hood ventilation on this microwave works great -- make sure the installers test it before leaving to be sure it is actually going through the duct. So impressed with it compared to my last one. Over-the-stove light is great, ease of use is great, and it is SO QUIET! Three minor downsides -- 1) it is 1000 and not 1200 watts so you have to adjust cooktimes, which is easy 2) the chime is so low that if you are talking on the phone or listening to a movie you may not hear it. So set the timer on your phone if it is crucial. 3) the buttons are not backlit, so if you wander into a dark kitchen and want to heat some coffee you have to turn on an room light to see them. However, the non-backlighting makes it a very attractive appliance indeed, IMO. I worried that the unit would stick out too far from my 13" deep cabinets and look weird, but with the stainless door frame it looks fabulous. Truly. It was on sale, and on top of that, there was both free delivery and installation for Total Tech Support subscribers. Did I say Total Tech Support is SO worth it? Loving Best Buy these days. Keep up the good work y'all!
