Beauty but no Brains - Thumbs Down

We purchased this microwave as soon as it came out. We were excited about the convection oven aspect along with the sensors. It was between this and the GE. I had heard so many good things about the GE but we decided to go with this because of the reviews and the looks (it is a BEAUTY).........but sadly enough it does not live up to its name or style. 1. We never use the convection oven even though we bought it for that very reason. Why?? It takes close to 15 minutes to warm up for convection then you can use that function. That is ridiculous! I can cook almost immediately in my toaster oven which actually cooks. So aggravating!!! Spend $1000 and don't even use the main function. 2. The sensor function doesn't work. No matter how many times I have tried softening butter it does not work. You have to use the soften function almost 3 times to get it to soften and you have to make sure that you don't melt it. Pretty much all sensor options are worthless. Conclusion: Pros - This is a beautiful microwave. It does basic microwave functions without issues. Cons- Convection feature is worthless. Sensor feature is worthless. This microwave is worth $300-$400 because of the looks and name other than that it is an overpriced appliance

    Horrible Microwave

Do not purchase this microwave because it’s a waste of money. I receive a message stating open door / close door and the microwave simply will not start. Yes, the door is closed but still no success and customer service was useless. I tried to order parts but they didn’t find this part to ship me. I start reading reviews and found this same issue with the exact microwave has been a problem for years. Please keep your money and forget this microwave no matter how great it looks. This was too much money to pay for a microwave that only last 2 1/2 years. Sad part, it stop working at the beginning of the pandemic and I couldn’t make popcorn or hot chocolate. It’s not a two star, but they won’t let you select one star. Total waste of money.

Pros...looks nice. Cons...cooking stuff. bought this unit specifically for the convection oven functionality. My hope was that it would obviate the need to have a separate toaster oven. Wrong. The convection oven function of this unit actually takes substantially LONGER to preheat than my standalone, low-end oven...and takes dramatically longer to preheat than my toaster oven. Yes, I tested them both simultaneously. As a standalone microwave, it is incredibly weak as well. My old lower-end microwave could heat 2 cups of cold water in about 1.5 minutes. This thing takes 2.5 minutes for the same thing. I cook a lot, and all of these things matter. I can only guess that a lot of the positive reviews here are from people pleased with the aesthetic of this unit...as it sure does look nice. But performance is woefully lacking!

Larger than I thought. Should have checked the watts, old one was 1100 watts so this one is much slower, 1000 watts. Can’t make my 12 muffins in it on convection, so the instructions say. Have used a convection microwave ( Sharp) for many years so really disappointed I can’t do this now. Took so much longer to bake a sweet potato.

Bought the microwave dec 11th 1999 and had bestbuy geek squad install it. everthing worked fine until march 18th the lights all went out so you can't see what you are doing. I called but they said because of covid they weren't fixing anything. I understood and waited until august 10 or so and called and they agreed to an in home service the next week. Nobody came. I called again 2 weeks later chatted with the man in the window on the computer and he promised they would be there the following monday. Nobody came. Sept 10 went into my local bestbuy store and went to the geek squad counter and told them about it and they said their store couldn't do anything , it would have to be handled by the chain and that they would contact them for them to get ahold of me. Today isevening of sept 25th and nobody has called, texted or emailedme. disgudted for sure!!!!

We had several of these and all of them had the same problem! They would not stop when prompted to add pastas! It not only didn’t stop it kept on cooking but gave you prompts to add pasta! One of the pasta settings never counted down once it got to the middle icon. It was a full rolling boil but the sensors didn’t sense the steam-not good if you were busy it could have started a fire. It went back!

I purchased this item for the convection feature. I returned it because it was annoying having to scroll through prompts to control the microwave/convection. The convection heated up and cooked nicely however was very loud. The door was "thick" and swung into my head. The light was dim and the fan was loud. This unit although pricey came with a newsprint manual with no recipes or ideas on how to best use the Convection. I had a freestanding Sharp convection/microwave and liked it much better. Very disappointed in the Kitchenaid.

We bought this as a open box item. We were remodeling our kitchen and took 11 months to finish. By the time we installed it this microwave worked for one month and now "runs" but does not heat anything up. We cant even return it because it is past return time table but this should have been fine. It worked perfect for a month which is why I give in 2 stars. Waste of money!!!!

Stay away from KitchenAid appliances, they are guaranteed to fail in less than 3 years. I have 3-appliances from them and all failed. THis one, the fan stop working. I only have 2 out of 3 that has extended warranty. I thought KitchenAid is reputable but they're reputation is just to sell an expensive product that below quality.

The magnatron went out within the first year. While it was still under Kitchenaid warranty, Kitchenaid's repair contractor was difficult to schedule and work with. Also, touch screen is so sensitive that it's hard to clean the glass front without turning something on.

It vents out strong air from exhaust fan to the room but it barely sucks the smoke and smell from the cook top. I don't think this is an installation issue but technical issue or defect.

Defective door latch, loud fan, huge door

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a good looking microwave, but defective product. High marks to Best Buy for service on my extended warranty. After the third breakdown in under 3 years, I am getting credit for a new and different replacement unit. The door is huge and can be a hazard in a small kitchen. The vent fan supposedly has multiple levels, but they are all loud and don't work great unless on high. Our door latch broke three times, so the microwave would not start, because it didn't recognize whether the door was shut. This is a second home, so it did not get much use and we are not door slammers, so we were not abusive of the unit. I think the door is so large and heavy that the plastic parts just don't hold up in the door latch. They replaced the door latch and even the entire door, but the last repair only worked for three months. When the unit did work, it worked well for microwave cooking. We honestly never used the convection feature, so I can't comment on that. I would recommend a microwave that does not have all the controls on the door.

Weak Oven and No Customer Service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We bought this from Pacific Sales and I sent an email to complain about the microwave, but have not heard anything back. I either have a defective unit or this is really poor microwave. It won't even cook a full bag of microwave popcorn as an example. It literally takes twice as long to heat anything compared to our previous microwave, which was also a Kitchenaid with the same 1000 watt rating. It takes forever (about 5 min) to heat a cold mug of water to make some tea. This is actually the second unit that we received as the first one was damaged (dented), but it was installed for about a week until it could be replaced. So we used the first one for about a week and it had exactly the same poor/slow cooking performance so I'm assuming that's the way it is and I don't get what all the rave reviews are for. The only thing we like is the convection feature which does work well. If someone has any recommendations for how to get better performance out of this oven, I'm all ears as it doesn't appear we'll hear from Pacific Sales. Thanks

Bought this from Best buy two years ago and am already having trouble with it. We keep getting an intermittent door close error that is expensive to fix: 3 switches and maybe a cam. Also, this microwave sticks out quite a bit beyond your cabinets and the sides are NOT stainless, so you have ugly black side panels between your beautiful cabinets and the stainless front. My last KitchenAid microwave lasted 16 years, but apparently their newer products have inferior components (according to the repairman). Have had the repairman out twice for the French Door fridge, once for the slide in range and now for the microwave. Guess KitchenAid wants you to buy their extended warranty.

Ok for a Microwave but Convection doesnt cook even

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pirchased this when we remodeled our kitchen to replace our countertop convection oven. Thought that having the Microwave Convection combo would be convenient. Had a problem installing because the door comes around the side (unusual for microwaves) so had to adjust the cabinet to fit. Turns out that the microwave works great but the convection oven doesnt really work. The heat comes from the left side. When food is put on the top rack in convection over mode, everything in the right side burns long before the left side is ready. On the bottom, when you leave it to spin on the plate, it comes out fine (though it takes a really long time). But if we try putting in a rectangular pan that cannot spin, again the right side burns while the left side is not cooked (not as bad as the top for some reason).
