Crypto is hot right now which means that people are also getting more cleaver with ways to scam you or the exchange hosting your wallet. The Ledger is one easy step you can take to keep your private keys safe. The whole point of this hardware wallet is to store your private keys (the key to your crypto) in a safe place offline so no one can get to it. It works by using the ledger app to authenticate any transactions with your hardware wallet. The pc app works really well, you plug the hardware wallet into the computer, save your recovery phrase, set a pin so no one can take your hardware wallet and use it, then you install crypto wallets onto the device. Ledger support tons of blockchains that you can easily install with one click. It of course supports bitcoin, ethereum, all the ethereum based tokens and many more. My biggest complaint is that you can only install about 5 coins on the wallet before the storage runs out. If you are someone with lots of coins, you may want the ledger with more storage. Using the app to send and receive crypto works just like any other wallet you’ve used, it’s super easy. The only difference is you have to have your hardware wallet plugged in to use. Overall I think this is a great product to use to add a little more security to your crypto. It’s easy to set up and easy to use. Highly recommend.

I own a mix of cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, BAT), spread out across a few exchanges. I've never consolidated them in one place because it seems every month there's a story about some exchange being hacked, breached, or just randomly shutting down and taking everyone's assets with them. This is why an offline wallet is needed, it 'should' give you real peace of mind that your assets are secure and away from the uncertainty of the internet. The Ledger Nano S is slightly larger than a standard USB drive, but instead of being a USB drive, it's a crypto wallet. It has a small LCD screen, two buttons (for menus, entering data, selection, etc), and a micro USB port to connect it to your computer. I don't think it has a battery, it seems to be USB powered. Setup is straightforward and gives you a taste of the focus on security. You enter a PIN (up to 8 characters) using the Ledger Nano S buttons, make a permanent note of the (long) passphrase, verify you recorded your passphrase, and you're ready to install "apps". The best analogy for the apps is they're really accounts that are attached to various crypto assets. You install all of these using the ledger.com app (Windows or Mac) by connecting the device to your computer using the included USB A to Micro USB cable. The Ledger software is intuitive and within a few minutes, I was set up to transfer my BAT (Brave Browser) crypto holdings to the wallet. There were no issues with the transfer and it works as you would expect crypto to work - fast, seamless, accurate. No concerns you will miskey a wallet address, or send money to the wrong account. That can make a big difference to your confidence in large crypto trades. Ledger is very good from that perspective. The bigger issue though is the Ledger Nano as a device and the general trade-offs with offline crypto wallets. There are some hardware things that bug me. It's micro USB when I really wish Ledger had gone for USB C. I kind of understand why they went with a cable rather than USB A (because you need to press buttons to unlock the device) but not being USB C feels like a miss, it means you need to always have a cable with you whenever you want to use the Ledger device. Although I guess it makes you less likely to do impulse trades! Ha! The other little frustrating thing is two different computers flagged the ledger software as being high risk. Windows Defender also flagged the software when I tried to download it - something Ledger needs to address with antivirus vendors. FYI there was no issue with my Mac, so seems to be a Windows issue. The last one and this is embarrassing but true, I lost the drive for a few hours because when I removed it from my keyring to test it on another computer my other half started tidying up and thought I had just left a USB drive out and put it away with a draw full of other drives. So I had a real moment of panic that I had lost my crypto. So you really need to guard the Ledger with your life carry it everywhere if you want your crypto secure AND available (they include a neck lanyard and keyring in the box). For me, I'm giving the Ledger Nano a 3 - it's a step forward in keeping your crypto safe. Ledger Nano is a good offline wallet and security tool, but I am not sure I would recommend it over using some other U2F tool with an online wallet. And I have read too many horror stories about people losing cold wallets. If they updated it to USB C and added U2F support so you could also use it both as a wallet and a security token with other exchanges, it could be perfect. All of this leaves me putting the Ledger Nano at closer to a 3 than a 4. It's secure, safe but enough little nagging doubts to stop me from recommending it.

This is my first crypto wallet. I’ve used coinbase for a few years and that’s what I use to currently hold my small amount of crypto. They like all online software that people use to hold crypto are susceptible to hacking as well as outages. Those are things that could possibly render your crypto useless or have it stolen forever. I’ve looked into offline wallets for a few years but never had enough for it to matter. Now that crypto is kind of taking off and the value of my assets are slightly more, I find it necessary to protect it. This wallet is kind of tedious and time consuming to set up but not bad. I did have an issue with the ledger live app as it was triggering all my antivirus software. I transferred over some of my LTC from Coinbase to the Ledger and it was very simple. The setup is what takes the longest it seems. Although this seems like a somewhat old way of doing things (flipping thru buttons on the top of something that looks like a usb stick) I think as of now, this is the most secure way to secure your crypto. I would say I haven’t added more than 1 app at this time and a downside is that you can only add up to 3 apps at the same time on the Nano S, if you want to install more than that you should probably drop the extra money on the ledger nano x. Pros: Well built. Looks like a USB drive. Affordable. Easy to setup. Industry leading security. Cons: Looks like a usb drive. Could be easily confused or lost. While setup is easy it is time consuming. Screen is tiny and may be hard to see for some over 40. Memory is small. Only supports 3 apps at a time.

Any typed password... it can eventually be found out, cracked, or exposed. And this is NO good when it comes to financial things... especially in the Crypto world. Crypto isn't like the banks of the last 200 years. There is no customer service person that is going to help you out, or float you a loan if your finances are compromised. In the Crypto, everything can be gone in a blink... and gone for good. Hence the need for good security and protection, and that is what this key does. It is an offline, Crypto Wallet, that supports pretty much all the current top and popular Cryptocurrencies. It provides your digital key to access the accounts, and do transactions, without exposing your critical private data, that would be needed by someone else to basically steal your value. Setup: So it does take some time. 15-30 minutes for most. It is methodical, almost condescending at time, but for good reason. When it tell you to write something down, you have to do it. It is for your own good. As you will find, that is the only way you will be able to recover if the key is lost or stolen. And without that, poof... you will completely lose access to any value you have on those coins. Only nit pick, is that I wish the included cable was longer, simply because of the logistics of my computer setup. The inline LED display is bright and easy to read, even without my glasses. After going through the setup, I was able to use the Ledger app along with it... and was ready to go, and had new accounts setup for Bitcoin, ETH, Doge, and DigiByte. looking forward to more being added soon. It looks like your normal USB Stick, but it isn't. It is much more, and is anything but a usb stick. But it is small, comes with lanyard or keychain option. If you are planning to even remotely into the Crypto currency game, you need one of these. doing it using P@ssw00d0neT203 as your super duper secret password, is only going to eventually lead to misery. Start off right, get the hardware Wallet. And this one is as good as any, and really straight forward and easy to use.
