The gameplay is excellent, the music is outstanding. An adventure full of mystery and action. +Samus +Full 3D Effect +Music -Focus on the new counter attack skill a little too much -Special Edition is lacking compared to other countries

When Nintendo Showed their Nintendo Direct during E3 and gave us two metroids-Metroid 2 remake and Metroid Prime 4; you could clearly see the reaction by majority of players. A 2D and a 3D metroid a little over a year apart is a dream come true. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS, wanted a remake of Metroid 2 for any platform whether it was a handheld or on console; a remake was absolutely necessary. Its, because Metroid 2 on the original gameboy is so outdated, it should have been released on the SNES like super metroid if it were possible. Anyway, I have never finished Metroid 2 on the gameboy as I was too young to fully comprehend it at the time, but with the Remake nearly 20 years later, I can fully experience it they way it was meant to be played. I love this game and I can't wait for Metroid Prime 4(2018/2019). It will be amazing. The game includes Metroid: Samus Returns case and cartridge, and soundtrack that is on a compact disc. It includes a few soundtracks from EVERY metroid game from Metroid 1 all the way to this metroid. Yes.....Every single one-Metroid 1,super metroid, Prime 1, Prime 2 Echoes, Prime 3 corruption, Zero Mission, Fusion, etc. Make sure you also get the metroid amiibos to unlock the content in this game. 4 amiibos are Zero Suit Samus, Varia Suit Samus, Metroid 2 Samus, and Metroid Squishy Amiibo in the dual pack.

    Metroid: Return to Form

Since Metroid: Other M in 2010, the Metroid series has fallen far from its graces of the 90's and mid-2000s. Whereas the former games were about platforming and exploration, Other M was more about combat and completely linear A-to-B style gameplay. On top of that, it had a story that was terribly written, and horribly acted. Metroid: Samus Returns is none of these things. This game goes back to the familiar platforming, exploration-based gameplay of Metroids of the past. The game itself is 3D, but movement is 2D sidescrolling. This is a remake of a 1991 Gameboy game, but it's so thoroughly redesigned that it may as well be an entirely new game. Gameplay follows the basic premise of, you enter an area ripe for exploration and obtain items as you search around which let you proceed further in the area until you're able to locate and defeat all of the Metroids in the area, which then opens a new area to explore. Throughout the course of the game, you'll constantly get items that open up new places in old areas, but the backtracking is never tedious thanks to teleport stations scattered throughout the planet. For veteran fans of the Metroid series, this game is a welcome return to form after the failed attempts from the past nearly decade. However, there's a bit less freedom in this than in older Metroid games; basically every item in the game is NECESSARY to beating the game. There's no item skipping or "sequence breaking" opportunities in Samus Returns. For fans of fast action adventure-type games, Metroid: Samus Returns would be a good addition to your library. It's certainly high on the list of best Nintendo 3DS games, regardless of whether you've played a Metroid game in the past.

This is a remake of Metroid 2: Return of Samus on the Gameboy, the last Metroid game in need of a remake. Whilst there is still something special and unique about the original Metroid 2, this version, in my mind, is the definitve way to experience Samus's metroid extermination mission on SR388, with the gameplay revamped to play more like Super Metroid/GBA Metroid games, a new melee counter which ramps up the action and the music also revamped with the original music getting amazing remakes, new music so befitting to Metroid, and remixes of Super Metroid/Metroid Prime music. This version has some new boss/enimies not found in the original, also abilities new to this game (from other games i.g. Super Metroid) and new Aeion abilities never seen in a Metroid game. If you 100% the game you'll unlock the full Chozo Memories which adds new lore to the franchise. Also by beating the game you'll get hard mode (differnt from fusion mode unlocked by the Metroid amiibo after beating the game). Overall a GREAT game.

As a Metroid series fan, I have always preferred the 2D outings of Samus and this remake of Metroid II on the GameBoy represents a wonderful return of the great series. The music is awesome, the gameplay is tight, and the art direction is solid. One note is that, like the original game, this game is hampered very slightly by the repetitive nature of the boss fights. The music CD included with the special edition does make some odd choices on included tracks with arguably too many coming from the weakest Metroid game, Other M.

Metroid Samus Returns is a great dose of the classic 2-D Metroid you have been missing for years. It claims to be a remake of Return of Samus for the Gameboy, but the only true repeating feature of the game design is hunting down the numerous hiding metroid scattered throughout the map. New weapons and abilities, vibrant graphix, and a great use of the 3D element gives the game its own identity. My completion was 100% in 15 hours of play. It was an enjoyable experience that I do not feel needs revisiting and can remain as a memory of a solid and fun romp through the Metroid universe.

Great to see another 2D Metroid after so long! This remake of Metroid 2 is incredibly fun and addicting! Once you get used to the controls, the game plays like a dream. Was a ton of fun beating the game 100% with all items! Highly recommended.

It is very good to have Samus back in a more traditional Metroid experience. This is a good remake of Metroid II, which was a game that really needed a remake. The game features 2.5D graphics and has wonderful stereoscopic 3D. The gameplay keeps the original Metroid feel but adds new moves in such as the ability to aim more freely which works out quite well, as well as a melee strike attack that you can use to parry enemy attacks. This works well, however, I never felt that the game made good use of this feature. Parrying was a bore to do and was more of a waiting game. Over all though the game is a solid affair and any Metroid fan should jump in.

Nintendo surprised the living daylights out of me when this was announced! I was immediately excited and preordered it the next day! When I opened the game up and turned it on, I was not disappointed at all! Samus is back in a huge way, as a fan of Super Metroid, I highly approve of this remake of Return of Samus. The original Gameboy had a whole bunch of limitations that just didn't let the game shine as it should have, and this 3DS remake smooths most if not all of those over and really gives us all the side-scrolling Metroid adventure we've been craving for more than a decade!

Not to be confused with the equally great "Another Metroid 2 Remake" or AM2R. This is Nintendo's finally unveiled remake of the classic Metroid II Gameboy game. A lot of great new features and utilization of the 3DS's capabilities. This is definitely not just a simple remaster. The story is the same, with small twists, where-as the map receives a generous upgrade and the gameplay itself also receives a noticeable upgrade. Bonus: The insert for the 3DS case is reversible with the original Gameboy cover on the other side.

People have been clamoring for a Sidescrolling Metroid game for years... and Nintendo has finally delivered on a remake of the old original Gameboy game Metroid II. Aside from the obvious visual overall, new mechanics and creatures make this game much more interesting than the original, with a much more open area to explore as well. The game is fantastic and recommended for Metroid fans.

Samus Return is a great addition to the Metroid series. Albeit a remake of the GB entry of the Metroid series, it really adds a fresh breath in gameplay and brings the atmosphere of the original to a more vibrant standing. The added attack and counter options bring more action to the Metroid encounters found throughout the game. The CD that came with the Special Edition has a great selection of music from various games within the series.

Metroid Samus Returns is a fantastic game. The gameplay is engaging from start to finish with beautiful graphics. If you consider yourself a Metroid fan, this is a must play. If you want to get into the series this is perhaps not the best game to start with due to the difficulty. I would recommend Zero Mission or Super Metroid before this game, but if you are up for the challenge, you won't be disappointed

Super late in the life of the 3ds comes seriously one of the best games the system has to offer. This game is awesome! A couple new abilities and the fact Samus can now parry make you feel like a badass! The game is fast and smooth as butter, it's so nice we finally got another 2D Metroid and one that's actually VERY good.Game clocks in around 12 hours to complete, a little more if you're going for 100%

Metroid has always been a winner for Nintendo and after such a long time since the last one we get a beautiful remaster of Metroid II for the Original Gameboy. This means more exploring and collecting, new monsters to fight and power ups to get. This is definitely a must own for the 3ds and if you pre-ordered this limited edition you also got a nice soundtrack CD.

Choosing a favorite 3DS game is very difficult. My 3DS is a constant companion and I have numerous beloved games for it. This one is definitely at the top of the list. Even though it is a remake of Metroid II, for all intents and purposes, it is a brand new game. From the atmospheric audio to the awesome visuals, there is nowhere in which this game falls short.
