Customers highly value the Surface Book 3's performance, touchscreen responsiveness, and ease of use. Many appreciate its excellent battery life and impressive graphics capabilities, although some find the storage capacity limited and the price high. The lightweight design is also frequently praised. While some users experienced heat issues, the overall feedback points to a powerful and versatile device.

What an amazing piece of electronica equipment. Upgraded from a surface book pro seven and have been extremely satisfied. Super fast processor handles anything I’ve thrown at it including some basic CAD and 3-D design programs, Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom. Housing is sturdy and high-quality very similar to a MacBook. Being able to detach the 15 inch screen and still have it operate is very useful and has been convenient for when I don’t have room for a heavy laptop. Only wish the tablet portion included a similar kickstand to the surface pros because there is no way to prop up the screen by itself once detached. The GPU has been up to the task of playing everything I’ve tried with it including halo gears of war remnant and steam games

We've enjoyed using this laptop. It has a premium price tag, but it has the performance we need. I wanted the detachable screen with a laptop first. We use it for work, school and games. A workhorse.

I end up working in Windows 10 so much that I considered getting one of these instead of keeping my MacBook Pro 16" laptop. I just wondered if Microsoft had something to compete with that. I love my MacBook Pro 16" but there are a couple of things about that when running it in Windows 10 that I thought if all other things were equal I could have something similar only something designed for Windows specifically. I had heard this was the top tier Surface product, so why not just try to check it out and see if it was comparable.
First, the screen is not top tier as I expected. The resolution is great, but the brightness was disappointing compared to Apple or Dell. I did like that this had that glossy look to it, but the lack of brightness and also the lack of color depth, leave this one behind some others. There are some YouTube reviews out there that make the same point about the Surface Book 3.
And after using the MacBook Pro 16" with it's incredible sound, the sound for this Surface Book 3 felt like going back years. There is literally hardly any bass. One will need to wear headphones in terms of wanting high grade sound with this.
The color of the base is just downright drab. It's like a dull gray. Being this is the premium Surface, Microsoft ought to offer some of the more interesting color choices offered in their Surface Laptop lineup. At least give two choices!
The processor is limited to four cores. That's a little behind the game for the high end laptops. Microsoft should look to fix this.
It also could use one Thunderbolt port and overall when hooked up to the keyboard the whole unit feels a bit heavy.
On the bright side I was impressed by the battery life and the range of ports available. I also liked how one can flip the tablet part so it faces away from the keyboard so that one can draw on it more easily with a Surface Pen. This device can do some unique things that other laptops cannot do to be sure.
Don't get me wrong, this device is not without the potential to be something great. It just needs some fixes to be fully considered at the top level.
In the end I was fairly disappointed to try out what Microsoft calls the higher end of the Surface line. I did return mine as all things did not end up being equal (in a few key ways) to what I have.

To keep it short, a comparison:
Compared to the Dell XPS 15, The Surface Book 3 15" has a weaker CPU, stronger GPU, and comparable portability. The XPS does not have as nice a webcam, nor does it have pen capability.
Compared to the Razer Blade 15, The Surface Book 3 15" has a weaker CPU, weaker GPU, and considerably better portability. The Razer Blade 15 does not have as nice a webcam nor does it have pen capability.
So what does this mean? If you have CPU heavy workloads, this machine might not be the best for you. If you have GPU heavy workloads, this machine might be good for you but there might be better options. If you NEED a pen capable device with a dGPU, this is your only real option.
This device represents a compromise of all things to provide a unique and exhaustive Windows experience. It does all things reasonably well (anything CPU process related), some things very well (GPU has an excellent encoder and *can* do games), and a few things exceptionally well (touch, webcam, microphone).
While the design may be a little dated, I still think this is one of the best if not THE best machine that meets most if not all needs of mobile workers.

Excellent laptop. Feels solid and definately better than a Mac.
Battery life is decent but could be better.
Powerful for Graphic, Design, Gaming and the list goes on. Will use this the next 4-7 yrs so an excellent investment. As an engineer I use for Cad & run Math computations and this laptop lives up to it. Great for my programming needs to.
Wish Microsoft did not abandon this series as this seems like the last of the product line as it is being replaced by Surface Laptop Studio.

The good:
Very happy with this purchase. Everything works as advertised. The gaming capability is better than expected (for gaming laptop). The overall cooling is impressive. The battery life is excellent. The screen is brilliant, and the surface pen is very good. It even have palm recognition.
Areas of Improvement:
For the price, Win 10 professional should be standard. The base can get pretty warm during heavy gaming. The tablet can be a little too slick... can be difficult to hold on to.

Absolutely amazing device. The pen (sold separately) is the best feeling I've had for graphic design since pencil and paper. It's fast thanks to the SSD. Which is way too small for today's use really wish it was easier to expand this. The 1660ti will handle plenty of gaming wether u stream or have a external drive to store the games. The ability "undock" it and go to tablet mode and relax on the couch and draw is great as well...
The only negative I have is storage.

I had a surface pro (2017) and a MacBook pro for school. I sold them and bought this to have one device to do it all and it truly does it all! The graphics are amazing and the detachable screen is very useful for using apps like OneNote. The screen also detaches very fast! Just make sure to check for updates when you first buy it to ensure your Surface Book runs as smooth as it can. The battery is alright, not the best but definitely not the worst! Would definitely buy again!

I purchased the Microsoft Surface Book 3 15" as a replacement to my MacBookAir. I had been using Apple products for years and as a recent graduate student found that using the Microsoft Suite was challenging on their products. I researched other laptops and the Surface Book 3 kept coming up on many "top" lists. I decided to go for it although the price was a little more than I was looking to spend. I ABSOLUTELY love this laptop and it is worth the investment.

The Surface Book 3 is a great laptop that can easily turn into a tablet. Use a styus for photo editing and sketching that makes it great when I detach the laptop. The only bad thing about this laptop is the battery. It drains very quickly, especially for having two batteries. Compared to a my Surface Pro, the battery last half the time. The performance is however vastly better when editing. And it just looks cool when I detach it.

I decided on this 15" Surface Book since I have loved my Surface Pro for several years. I needed a little extra screen and this fits the bill. I didn't want the Studio as the screen was smaller and the screen does not detach. My wife has a Surface Book 2 and this does not disappoint. I can even play Halo Infinite with my kids. LOL
