Microsoft has yet done it again. Microsoft has released the Surface Laptop 4 series and depending on your need you can pick up a powerhouse. Surface Laptop 4 like the previous year models are available in 13.5- and 15-inch models and they range from Ryzen 5 all the way to up to Core I7. The model I tested has 11th Gen Intel Core i5 Processor with 8GB of LPDDR4X ram and 512GB of SSD Storage. The laptop also features a touchscreen LCD display running at 2256 x 1504 screen resolution on an Intel Iris Xe graphics card. The surface features 720p front facing camera and provides blazing internet speeds with its Wireless-AX card. You will also be amazed by the Dolby Atmos speakers and Bluetooth 5.0 providing you the latest tech in sound quality. The Surface Laptop 4 looks and feels beautiful with its full aluminum finish and design giving it that high end feel all while being amazingly thin, lightweight and super portable. The Surface Laptop has a height of .5 inch, 12.1 inches wide and 8.8 inches deep and only weighs 3lbs. It also features a USB, USB-C and an audio jack, which I am glad Microsoft has decided to keep. Now, I have been using this laptop for a few days and based on its specifications it has performed well. We used the laptop to make Zoom video calls, while running google classroom for my kids, preparing this review, watching movies, using it for work (Running CAD, and designing software), and playing some video games. Most of the tasks performed well except for running CAD and playing video games. Although lite video games are ok, I would not recommend running anything graphics heavy on the laptop. The laptop is great for home use, light office work and entry level gaming. The Intel Core I5 in this laptop is a good processing unit, but its an entry level unit. Also, the 8 GB of ram is not enough to run some of the designing software. Overall, the Surface Laptop 4 is an excellent entry level machine. It will be an amazing tool in helping you complete everyday task whether for business or pleasure.

The laptop is great! The touch screen response well to your touch the keyboard is great! Some laptops I’ve had the keyboard was bulky and made it difficult to type but not this one. The battery life is decent, I can go a whole week without charging it when I used it for my job. I would use Microsoft word and publisher and Adobe illustrator and it could go 5 days without needing to be plugged in. I don’t need all that for my new job and now just use it for Netflix. I think I would have preferred this laptop over my Apple MacBook Air when I was in college. The storage space is so much better than my Mac and it’s actually lighter too! I definitely recommend

Just as the title says, the Surface laptop has withstood many days and nights of my constant work tasks and entertainment. Its speed and easy management can be great for those just using it for basic multitasking. However, there is nothing extraordinary about it. I actually see no point in the touchscreen, which I rarely used. Yes, you can use touchscreen apps on it, but angling of the laptop doesn’t allow it from proper touchscreen use. The battery life is also subpar. I had to keep plugging it in every 3-4 hours while I had some work done. As a result, you can feel it overheat from just charging. Despite these setbacks, I have never had it crash on me.

Had problems at first. My first purchase started getting black lines across the screen after about 2 months. Took it back to BestBuy, the looked at it and determined it to be a manufacturing error. They replaced it with a brand new one for free. Have no had any problems with my new one since. The battery life is good, audio is great. Does heat up if on a soft surface but that is as expected. Great for school, no issues with the new one.

Bought for my daughter. She needed a new laptop to replace a MacBook and I was more than enthused she wanted a Windows laptop. This won out over the Surface Pro and Samsung Galaxy Book. The is essentially a Windows MacBook. They've done a great job. The hardware is solid, feel light but sturdy. The screen resolution is great and performance is solid. The USB-C port allows USB-C charging in addition to the proprietary Microsoft charging. Ultimately decided on the higher end model to future proof and didn't particularly like the Alcantra surface on the entry level models. My previous experience with the first gen Surface Pro influenced the decision. I've had a great experience with MS hardware.

It’s been a decent laptop so far but I has some minor buzzing and the screen is looser than my surface laptop 3 was. Beyond than, it’s been great so far for the 2/3 months I’ve had it:) I does great with all I need it to do for school. Also, for all the simmers, it runs sims 4 pretty good and it can run sims 2 decently but a little glitchy:)

I’ve only had my current laptop for four years, but the screen is cracked, the speakers don’t always work consistently, the components are fast becoming outdated, and it weighs a ton. I realize it was time that I replaced it with something smaller, lighter and state of the art. Enter Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 - 13.5” Touch-Screen – Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive. As I am not an IT expert or self-pronounced tech geek, I’ll spare you from reading another review that lists all the tech and design specs, and instead offer you this link from Microsoft https://youtu.be/Z3N3u6NyWSY if you want more of those details. The review I offer will be from the perspective of an ordinary user. I often travel with my laptop and having a long battery life without needing a charging station is exactly what I was looking for. The solid state drive is critical to process information quickly as well as booting up and powering down without having to wait long. I always know it is time to replace a computer when I can get a cup of coffee in the time the laptop boots up. The Surface 4 laptop doesn’t run hot, even after extended use, including work by day and watching videos by night. That means no loud fan kicking on either. The Surface 4 has a touchscreen, but it does not fold back 360 degrees like a convertible nor does the keyboard detach. To my chagrin, the laptop did not come with a full-size active pen ($82 Microsoft Surface pen), storage for the pen or a protective sleeve like my HP Spectre x360. But since this isn’t a 2-in-1 laptop, perhaps I can’t complain. The 3:2 aspect ratio offers 18% more viewing pleasure than the typical 16x9 laptop screen. I see the difference when I am opening multiple files side-by-side on the screen. The Surface 4 has thicker bezels than my HP, but it is almost two times lighter, weighing in at a mere 2.8 pounds. Security is simple with facial recognition via Windows Hello, but I haven’t activated it yet. The quick password is sufficient at this time. I listen to Spotify and stream videos frequently and the OmniSonic stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos® provides great sound. I run virtual fitness classes and use the high-fidelity music mode in Zoom with original sound. I was using my 1-year-old work computer but switched up and used the Surface 4 for my last class. The person who does the sound check with me said the sound from the Surface 4 was of noticeably better quality. I am eager to try out the dual far-field studio mics for Teams calls. In the past, my voice has echoed off the walls in my office making it difficult for people to hear me clearly. I liked the size and feel of the full-size, backlit keyboard, palm rest and touchpad. I am glad to have the all-aluminum chassis versus the soft-touch fabric. As it is, the Sandstone keyboard is very light and a little challenging to distinguish the lettering easily in bright light. The 720p HD front-facing webcam wasn’t as sharp as I had expected, but I use a Logitech C930e 1080 HD for the virtual classes I teach on Zoom so that wasn’t an issue. The graphics are very clear and the Zoom video of me was so vivid, it looked like something from a television show on an HD channel. No surprise, the resolution on the 13.5” screen is 2256x1504, so very sharp! As a mouse user addict, I was petrified to get a laptop with so few ports. However, it was not as much of a major adjustment as I had expected it would be. My previous laptop only had a USB-C, a Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.0, an SD reader and an HDMI port. The Surface 4 has 1 full-size USB 3.2 Gen 2, 1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, a headset jack and Surface Connect. At first not having an HDMI port made me shy away from this laptop, but then I figured I could use a 4-Port USB Type-C Hub with the Surface Connect port to connect to the webcam and mixer and other USB 3.0 connections. Plus, I can connect wirelessly to most peripherals (monitor, mouse, etc.). Am I worrying needlessly about the magnetic charging piece breaking when trekking it with me everywhere? I wish I was able to choose a 4/5 out of 5 for the rating. Since I can't, let me express what an excellent laptop this is and override the rating here in the text. I encourage you to consider this laptop when looking to purchase a new one. I’ll miss my previous laptop, but I wholeheartedly embrace the Surface 4 laptop. I am looking forward to making some new memories together.

Excellent laptop as an alternative to the Macbook Air M1. My husband has the Macbook and he says it is very similar as far as look and feel. The i5 is great as I am only using this laptop for work and personal use. No gaming, rendering, or hard editing photos/videos. Would very much recommend this to a casual user, but would definitely recommend upgrading to the i5/i7 from the AMD.

Overall it’s a nice looking laptop. It has a quality feel to it. It’s quick and responsive, and the display is vivid, but on the hardware side it’s a bit overpriced for what you get. At this price point I’d expect at least 16gb of memory. It’s not a deal breaker but if you’re looking for a nicely designed laptop for school or office work this is a good choice.
