If you are a fan of the old school type of MH you are in for a treat. This is a beefed up version of the 3ds monster hunger. But it plays amazing on the switch. You will spend hours collecting everything.

Before Monster Hunter World & Rise popularized the franchise, there was this version of Monster Hunter in which many OG fans are familiar with. For veterans alike, this is such a nostalgic trip that you'd want to experience all over again. If you started with World or Rise, you will find this game to be much more difficult, a bit more janky, and a bit less polished (missing some quality of life features World and Rise offered). Graphics may not look as beautiful as the newer games, but they are sharp, crisp, and vibrant on the Switch. Controls aren't as easy or well-defined as World & Rise, but it's no where near unplayable. It is more difficult and requires a bit more precision, but this is how it's always been since the beginning. The satisfaction comes from executing with precision and timing. You also have to understand that these games originated from PS2, PSP and the 3DS eras, so it's come a long long way. However, that should not deter you from playing this game. If you thirst for more Monster Hunter and love a challenge, MH Generations Ultimate should scratch that itch. You will appreciate how much has changed between Generations Ultimate and its transition into World & Rise. Generations Ultimate packs the best content from all of the iterations before it into this game and adds more; truly living up to the "Ultimate" name. I don't see Capcom planning to make newer iterations of this older version of Monster Hunter, so this is probably the best version to play at this current time. If you're a diehard fan, just do yourself a favor and buy this game, whether it'd be at retail price or at a discount, it's worth it. Happy Hunting!

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is a celebration of all the past Monster Hunter games and adds even more ways to play with 6 Hunting Styles and dozens of Hunter Arts. The game has 93 large monster, including variant species, spanning over all the generations of the past games with returning favorites. Many areas return with 27 locations to fight monsters in and have been updated to make them more modern and account for newer mechanics like aerial attacks. Those coming from Monster Hunter World maybe used to the quality of life changes added to the game. If you can get past the minor inconveniences the game compared to Monster Hunter World, this has much more content and fighting monsters feel more controlled with the refined AI and controls that have been improved throughout the years. Capcom created an amazing experience for portable users and this is one no different playing handheld on the Switch with hundreds of hours of gameplay.

There's a lot of content in this game, but it starts to feel repetitive having to battle the same beasts multiple times to create gear. Plenty of different monsters to fight and weapons to wield. Controls and physics feel a bit clunky and unnatural, but they're manageable once the "rules" of the game are understood.

As a longtime Monster Hunter fan I was looking forward to a US version of MHXX. Much to my glee Capcom localized it as Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Coming off of World I won't deny the QoL that World had was good and I missed it, but GenU has the best content thus far. Monsters, Armor, Weapons, this game is a blast, and despite the lack of improvements (which I won't fault it for as it TECHNICALLY came out before World) I find myself sinking just as much time into it as I have all the others. Highly recommended for oldschool and new hunters alike.

Starting with the downside, the game has a lot of fetch quests at the beginning. Excellent game once you get going. There is so much content and combined with the multiple hunter arts and styles, you will be playing this game for a long time if you enjoy the core gameplay loop of hunt, get monster parts, make new gear, hunt again. There are a lot of challenging quests and it feels really rewarding once you finally overcome them.

Classic Monster Hunter is better than World because you actually need to try. You have a bunch of ways to play with Hunter Artes and Skills and weapons. You absolutely are getting your money's worth, unless you already played Generations, in which case you probably bought this anyway (I sure did.). Absurd amounts of monsters, locales, items. This is the type of game that has so much stuff in it, there's no way you can't make it your own experience.

I bought this so I could play MonHun on the go. This one isn't as user friendly as Monster Hunter: World, but it's a great port to switch. I would recommend playing with a pro controller though as playing with the joy cons attached to the switch makes it a little difficult to maneuver when fighting mons.

I'll start this by saying, I'm a Monster Hunter vet. Prior to playing this game, I've played the original on PS2, Tri on Wii, 3 Ultimate on Wii U and 3DS, 4 Ultimate on 3DS, the original Generations on 3DS, and World on PS4. After playing this game, while I think 4 Ultimate has the best story and World has the best graphics, I'd easily say that Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is the best Monster Hunter experience to date. I love the palico (cat creature) system of finding palicos with different skills and actually being able to play as them. There's far more Monsters to fight and content to do in this game then any other Monster Hunter game. While the graphics are nowhere near as good as World, they've seen a facelift over previous versions. Gameplay is fantastic and has the special moves that even World doesn't have. I can't recommend this game anymore. It's a Must Have for any Monster Hunter fan or Switch owner looking for a good online experience.

They added a crazy amount of content to this game, definitely the best Monster Hunter in the series, unless you prefer Worlds' slightly different gameplay more. Pretty sure this is the most monsters they've ever had in one game, and the style mechanics are great. Would recommend.

Monster Hunter is basically a boss fight game. These monsters are huge and terrifying, but thankfully your Hunter comes equipped with some giant, impressive weaponry. Battles are a war of attrition, with the monster wearing you down and you slowly wear it down, and it is just so rewarding when you overcome them. Monster Hunter is one of the most rewarding games on the switch. There is a metric ton of content in this game, with over 93 individual large monsters! Between the 3DS and switch versions, I've already put in over 50 hours into the game and I've only barely reached high rank in single player, not even touching the outstanding multiplayer. Can't recommend it enough. Tough to figure out a bit at first, but once you get into the game, the game play loop is some addictive fun

If you like skill-based action games, then this is the game for you. Like any other Monster Hunter game, you go out starting with almost nothing, and work your way up with your own skill to fight progressively powerful monsters. It doesn't hold your hand either. Even with the best equipment, you won't be able to breeze the hardest content without having learned from past experiences. As another MH game with the "Ultimate" moniker, this is the game with possibly the largest content, and now you can play it either portably, or on the big screen.

This game is the Monster Hunter for anyone! Whether you've been playing them since the PSP days, or you just want dabble in to a new game, you absolutely cannot go wrong here. There's hundreds upon hundreds of hours of hunting, gathering, making friends, and experiencing the enormous cast of OVER 100 monsters! Truly, this is an essential for the switch, and an absolute must for anyone who's ever played a Monster Hunter.

This is a fun one where if you have the time, this game has the content. Loads of missions, monsters, classes, and weapons to unlock.

One of the best Monster Hunter games ever released. It has tons of monsters to hunt, weapons to use, and quests to complete. It is a great celebration of the franchise, bring in lots of elements from previous games, but with tons of new content. The game has a lot more tutorials than other mainline games so it would be a good start for newcomers. The gameplay is as deep and refined as its ever been. This is a port of a 3DS game, so it isn't technically impressive, but it has great art design and animations.

Maybe not as pretty and flashy as Monster Hunter World (because it's a remastered port of a 3DS game), Generations Ultimate offers FAR more content than World in terms of sheer content. There are more monsters to hunt, which is the hook of the game to begin with, but if you're coming to MonHunGenUlt from MonHunWorld it's best to set your expectations accordingly. It's not as streamlined or user friendly and the first 10 hours or so does take a lot of getting used to, but it really is the perfect game to play on the go. It performs great, the community is active, and for the current price ($30 as of the time of this review) you can easily squeeze HUNDREDS of hours out of it.

It has A TON of monsters. MHW is gorgeous, but the original MH games are difficult and just as enjoyable.

This was my only my second monster hunter game, after MHW. I am definitely not a veteran of the series, but this was a great one to pick up second. Playing world was nothing compared to this one, there is so much more in this game and it has a higher difficulty in general I think, at least for someone still somewhat new to the series. I have logged like 200 hours and there is still so much to do! Definitely a great game worth the money!
