Subpar Remote For a Great Console
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Back when I used my PS3 as my Blu-ray/DVD player, streaming device, game console, PC video/music hub Sony came out with a universal remote for the PS3 that was fantastic. It connected automatically to my Sony TV and receiver with no prep whatsoever & controlled everything perfectly. It was so great I bought a 2nd for upstairs and another for a friend. One would think Playstation would only improve on that great remote for their PS4 version, but instead as the only universal remote available for the PS4 it is riddled with issues. SOUND CONTROL NOT EASILY ACCESSIBLE. Unlike any other universal remote I've used in the past 10 years (from cheap to expensive) this is the only one where I had actually select the AMP mode in order to adjust sound. It won't work if you're using the remote to control your PS4, TV, or other device without switching back & forth between 'devices' at the top of the controller. So if you use this remote plan to have to switch modes every single time you want to go from adjusting volume to doing absolutely anything else at all with it. LIMITED FUNCTIONALITY. It also didn't connect automatically to my Sony devices, but okay I went through the process of elimination with all the different pairing codes. When I finally got them matched, I found the menu functionality available from my PS4 remote was very limited compared to my PS3 remote. For one, I could no longer access all of the menus on my Sony TV. BATTERY ISSUES. I also realized this remote required a higher charge on the batteries before it became unresponsive than other remotes. I took the batteries that were working great in my PS3 remote & put them directly in the PS4 remote and it didn't manage to function (no button light up or anything). Put those same batteries in any other remote & they worked like a charm. I had to put in shiny new batteries before the remote would respond. So plan to get less battery life when using this remote. Inversely, the remote has to "power on" any time you wait too long between utilizing it, so expect delays when trying to pause or fast forward... all in the name of saving on battery usage. TONS OF MISSING BUTTONS. I found the PS4 universal remote was missing buttons that were on the PS3 remote. This remote has no 3D, angle, -/--, audio, subtitle, angle, display, slow/step bckwrds, slow/step frwds, L1, L2,L3, R1, R2, R3 buttons... they're all missing. I use audio, subtitle, & angle a lot so this was quite a shock for me. I really couldn't believe what an unusable piece of garbage this remote was. Obviously I returned it & will just have to settle for using my PS3 universal remote to seamlessly control every other device I have and use the game controller for my PS4... it's just so crazy.

No Positive Points to this Remote
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After purchasing a PS4, I was in need of a remote that I could use instead of the controller that came with the console. Because I had purchased a similar remote for use with my PS3, I had high hopes for this remote once I found that such a remote existed for the PS4. Not the same as the PS3 remote AT ALL! The buttons on this remote are TINY! As a woman with small fingers, I am amazed at how difficult it is to push buttons on this thing. And considering the fact that the tiny PS4 button has to be pushed everytime I want to play, fast-forward, reverse, using this remote becomes a colossal headache. The final "con" of this device is it's humongous thirst for battery-juice! I've had to change the batteries twice and I've only had it 2 weeks. Hopefully, Best Buy will allow me to, at the very least, return it for a store credit. I've had it with this useless thing!

Good idea gone wrong
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had no luck with my remote. It works to turn on the PS4 but frequently loses bluetooth connectivity so I need to grab the PS4 controller and re-connect it (defeats the purpose of the remote). The other issue (even if you have better luck with connectivity) is that it doesn't work with all of the movie apps. I believe it works with Netflix but doesn't with Vudu (I might have that backwards). Inconvenient since that was the whole point of my getting the remote was so that I didn't need to grab the PS4 controller off the charger for the tv apps.

Complete garbage !!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy this remote. It connects through the Bluetooth but it will not stay synced so every time I use it I have to use the PS4 remote to re connect it. Sometimes it just stops working and will not do anything. PS4 says to use hit PS butting but doing so on the remote dose nothing. I thought I had just bought a lemon so I got a second one but same problems. It's a garbage remote; don't buy it!!!

Just use your controller
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Avoid buying this. Probably one of the worst gaming purchases I've made. I used to manage a game store so that's pretty bad. The remote just feels weird; nothing like the old PS3 remote. It also seems to be filled with glitches (which is common; there's a lot of complaining on the web). I tried contacting Sony and asked them how to fix it, but they gave me some completely random canned answer, i.e. it's defective please send to us and we will replace it. Problem is, is that it works. However, it doesn't work with the PS4 if it's taken out of rest mode. So you have to use your controller (what?!? Isn't that why you buy the remote?!?). It also doesn't automatically control the volume from any setting. Because the ps4 has a volume setting. It's right next to the where's my baseball bat icon so I can go office space on this trashy remote (I haven't been able to find the icon yet...). And those that have exchanged it seem to have the same issue. I usually don't bash Sony, but this is just awful. I should have reviewed other reviews first. Better to buy another universal remote that can control the ps4; not a plastic projectile that controls some alternate universe.

Incomplete PS Remote
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a real train wreck of an execution. PS Vue on screen menus often refer to L1 and R1. PDP Remote is missing L1-3 and R1-3, while red and green button provide R1 and L1 functions they are not labeled and therefore useless for anyone without special knowledge.. Many of the buttons do nothing like 'Page-up' and 'Page-Down" referenced on onscreen PS Vue menu, but do nothing on remote leading users to feel that the remote is not functioning, which is all too common for other working buttons since the bluetooth commands turn off when the remote auto-powers down... with no indicator. X, O, Square and Triangle buttons are in a row, not standard "Diamond" position established on game controller, you're familiar use is squandered. It means you have to bring up the lights and look at the remote frequently to operate. Only good features; you can map your amps volume on volume buttons and have dedicated tv power button.

It's Dead
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked well enough for about 3 months. Couple weeks ago it stopped working with DVDs/Blu-rays in the PlayStation, which was kind of the point of it. Then about a week ago it stopped working entirely with the PlayStation, but the console could still recognize it. Today, it finally died. At least I'm assuming that's what has happened. I tried to perform a reset according to the manufacturer's instructions and it just sits there, no signs of life and not recognized by the console. Oh well. I wasn't fond of how I had to hit the TV input first to change volume, my old Logitech remote would change volume no matter which device was selected.

Would be nice if it worked
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote does not work well with the PS4. It is slow to connect and many of the functions do not work as expected. The Dual Shock controller is the way to go

Poor Design
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The person that designed this remote control never used it. The idea of being able to control your television and PS4 with the same remote while watching media sounds excellent - but the way the remote makes you toggle to ‘TV’ to adjust volume settings is nonsense considering the button placement makes doing so with a single hand impossible without completely moving your hand positioning to reach the top of the remote. Do not buy.

Stopped working
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stopped working and some of the buttons dont work for the tv. The customer for the company sent me two new ones for free but the first one they sent, again not all the tv commands work so they sent another one and same problem. Also the ones they sent are the older model that uses more battery.

Third party junk
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Several problems with this. First off, this is the official remote, but it's not a Sony product. It's licensed. The build quality is less than the old PS3 remote. It's skinnier, lighter, and less comfortable. The texture on the plastic is not the same as on the controllers. The buttons are tiny. Second, the number keys don't work in PS4 mode. So if you have an app like Plex where you need to enter a PIN, you have to do that with the arrow keys.... so everybody can see your pin while you're typing it in. Third, it's short on buttons. No L1,2,3 or R1,2,3, etc. So if you have an app that isn't specifically programmed to respond to a remote's FF/RW buttons, but uses L2 and R2 instead, you have to go back to the controller. Fourth, it has a volume punch through feature, but it only works with the "TV" mode. So it will send the volume keys to your TV in PS4 mode, but you can't make it send the volume to AMP or CBL. So if you have any sort of home theater setup and your audio doesn't go through your TV, you're plain out of luck.

Not good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally purchased this controller so my parents and relatives can watch Netflix using my PS4 while I'm away at work. Unfortunately, the controller seems to have a mind on its own and will work only when it feels like it. Most of the time, even after randomly pressing buttons, it would not do anything. This thing is more useful as a paperweight.

Not worth it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Batteries would only last 2 weeks. 8 months later it's completely stopped working. It did work OK for the apps I used, but the auto shutoff got annoying while watching long episodes of shows. My PS3 remote is still working after 8 years. Not sure what happened with PS4 peripherals. It's junk now.

It works, but not nearly as well as the PS3 remote
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We upgraded from a PS3 system to a PS4 system, including bluetooth remotes. The PS3 remote was overly sensitive and would turn on the PS3 system if it was just bumped accidentally. This was annoying, but I'd rather have that than an unresponsive PS4 remote that we have to "wake up" to use. The PS4 remote doesn't respond unless the PS4 button, PS4 power button, or a combination of both are pressed many times, and sometimes we have to take the batteries out and put them back in to wake up the remote. All to pause a show or open the PS4 menu that should be a one-button press. However, once it is awake, the remote works just fine. It's just GETTING it to wake up that is extremely aggravating. Half the time we end up just using the PS4 controller instead.

Not as universal as I had hoped
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately I feel like Sony let me down with this one. I have a Sony set up that consists of a 65" Sony 4k 3d tv and a 7.2 4k 3d compatible receiver. So, one would think that this remote would easily sync to and run these devices. Nope, it barely works with some of the functions of my tv and will not even hook up to my receiver. Not to mention that it is not even very easy to operate the blu ray functions on the ps4 and it is always shutting itself off. So, you have to remember to hit the "ps" button before using the remote just to pause or skip chapters. So, for the first time in my history with Sony I am highly disappointed. Hope they come out with a better version soon.
