I read other online reviews and the Phillips motion sensor is a very well-made product. It has low latency and you can set the sensitivity for daylight and motion. This is my second one so far and it’s easy to set up and install. We used to control hallway lights when one approaches.
You use the Hue app set up and configure. I would suggest using some tape and putting it in various parts the room to test out where it works the most effectively. Then when you’re sure you can actually install it on the wall. There is a round small cylinder that screws into your drywall. And then the motion detector attaches magnetically. It’s 2 inches wide and tall and 1 inch deep.

I love this item. Works great and very easy to install and uses a magnetic bracket. This is the second one I’ve purchased. Great range and perfect for duel entry way. Very customizable for light settings even with multiple lights and rooms.

Good Sensor - wrong dimensions

I ordered this to control under cabinet lighting. I had a sensor to do that but it was much larger and I wanted something that would be less obvious under the cabinet. I only had about 3/4 of an inch depth to work with. Seemed like this sensor would fit but after unboxing it my fears were confirmed. The dimensions are for the 'box' part of the sensor, the hood sticks out farther and on the back is a large round base that makes this much thicker.
Other than that, I had it up and running in minutes. One of the fastest and trouble free sensors I've added to my network.

After looking a a few Youtube reviews I decided to get this for a hallway light area that my daughter and or wife always leave on when they get home or leaves for work. I'm still tinkering and adjusting it but as of right now the light is no longer being left on.

Wasn't sure we were going to like it, but we love it! Works fantastic. Easy set up and we didnt even need the mounting screws. Its magnetic, so we stuck it to our metal art above our kitchen doorframe.

Adding a sensor to the Philips Hue system turns your smart home into a responsive home. No need to flip that switch...just your presence is enough to turn those lights on

This is a fine product but, it still might not solve all of your problems. I cannot recommend it because of the price although that might depend on your use case. There are plenty of creative ways to set this up, and the "hue Labs" feature in the app open up these possibilities.

After trying various smart home solutions for our hallway stair lights, I ended up settling on this item. The range and sensitivity was able to detect a person at the bottom and top of the stairs over a 90 degree angle. Since installing and configuring (a quick 10-15 minute process) I have not had to even think about this. The HUE system seems able to handle internet and power outages very well (which is a musr here in Wisconsin). I wish these were a little bit less expensive, but overall I am extremely happy with it.

The motion sensor itself works pretty well. The lights come on as soon as it sees you, the lag time is nearly imperceptible. I put this in my windowless bathroom and it's great. It's set to only turn on 1 bulb at it's lowest setting after 11PM so I'm not blinded in the middle of the night, full brightness during the day. Once motion has stopped, you can select one of 11 pre-set time periods ranging from 1 minute to an hour after witch the lights can be instructed to either turn off or do nothing. It does warn you a few seconds before the lights go off by dimming them to half brightness. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted to thwart roaming pets, there are 3 settings and the app will show you what will happen at each setting. I will note that even at its highest setting it cannot see through a shower curtain. Be sure to set the off timer long enough to cover your shower time or be prepared to stick your arm out to reset it. You can also adjust the ambient light threshold to keep it from activating when there is already sufficient light in the room.
The mounting thingy is cool, but requires you to screw the magnet piece into the wall. I tried using a 3M Comand strip, but it wouldn't stick to the rubberish covering. I was able to remove the covering and the strip did stick to the metal piece, but when mounted, you can't remove the sensor without pulling the magnet from the adhesive. A minor annoyance but worth noting.
What needs more work, however, is the software. The only options you have are 2 time periods. They are pre-set for day and night, you can adjust the times to your liking, but the two periods must cover a 24 hour day. There is no option to add a 3rd (or more) period. You can set both periods to perform the same action, if you only need 1. The actions you can set are limited to activating a pre-set scene. If you have another schedule set to set a certain scene and the dog wanders by, the motion sensor setting will override the scene you've previously set. The only way around this is to disable the sensor in the app, then you have to remember to re-enable it. I'm hoping Philips will add some more functionality to this soon, but currently it's pretty much limited to closets and bathrooms. I would recommend this, but only in these situations at the moment.

I have now bought 6 of these to complement my Control4 home automation setup. The Control4 sensors are around $200 a piece. For that cost I could get 5 of these. They are small, easy on the eyes, and work well. The nice thing is they also include built-in temperature sensing which you can use to trigger functions (like turn on heat when it gets too cold in a specific area). So now I have temperature readings from around the house. They were simple to add and configure through the Philips Hue app. I do notice a slight delay from the time the sensing happens to the time an action is triggered but it's likely due to the bridge between the sensor and my automation system. You also have the ability to adjust motion and light level sensitivity which is nice as well. The kit is packaged well and comes with a small magnetic mounting base and appropriate wall fasteners. I would have liked a little more information on the beam spread (I think it's 120 degrees, so 60 degrees to each side, not sure about top to bottom) so I can better determine best placement but it seems like corners of a room are the recommended location. I have some of mine mounted on the ceiling facing down for some entrances and that seems to work ok as well. Overall, happy with the product.

I was pleasantly surprised by this little device. I expected it to be troublesome to set up and it was a breeze. One unexpected welcome surprise is the sensor also gives a temperature reading to my iPhone for the area it's in. Cool and easy to use - Get one! They stowe neatly out of the way as long as they can see motion in the area you want to control your hue lighting.

I invested in Hue to help automate lighting while having a little fun with colors and themes under different circumstances. I recently installed more Hue lights in our master bathroom and walk-in closet. It ended up being more trouble than it was worth to wake up and open the app just to set the lighting so I could get ready in the morning. This solves that as you can set different scenes during certain times. It's not too bright in the morning, doesn't activate when it's daylight (There's a sensor to adjust this), and just the right amount when your calling it a night. The Hue App made it effortless to add to my Bridge and customizing the settings were a breeze.
It's small size made it easy to mount and while it's noticeable, it's hardly an eye sore.

If you are invested in the Hue ecosystem, this is an amazing little accessory that allows more functionality of your favorite do-all lights. You can have it trigger certain scenes when you walk in a room automatically, be used as a motion light sensor for outdoor lights, the possibilities are really at your disposal as far as motion detection goes with Hue.

We have about 15 of these in our house. They work great. Use them to turn on things lights that you always would turn on anyway. Example, in some of our bathrooms, no reason you would go in there without a light on. So these are set up to turn on the lights nice and bright. During the wee hours of the night they are set to turn the lights on at a lower intensity.
Have had some for three years and have only changed on set of batteries. They use a AAA battery and not some strange type battery that is hard to find.
Little pricey at $40 a sensor, but have seen them on sale for $33. Still worth the $40.
Am really impressed at how well and consistently they work. Set them and forget them, literally.

Set the sensor up in my living room and now whenever I enter the room the light is on for me. I set it so that it does not turn on when the light outside provides enough for the room. The set up was simple and has worked reliably for the past month or so.

I purchased this to go along with the Phillips Hue light kits. I alway had a problem with my son not turning off the light in the basement. I bought this and 2 Hue bulbs. Set it up and it works! Hue app detected it. It comes with a mounting kit that is magnetic. I only had to reset it once. You just set all the timers and sensitivity through the app. It is compatible with Siri, Alexa, and Google. I use Siri. She actually gets it right. ;-)
The Hue system is a bit pricey, but so far I really like the whole system.
I plan on expanding it soon.

I've been playing with and purchasing Philips Hue stuff for about 9 months now. This little guy is truly one of the nicest little additions for a control that I've bought so far. we only use it to turn on a closet light and turn it off on it's own, but after I got it and read all the cool functions it can offer as well, I was shocked at the flexibility that you can get from such a tiny little package. The only thing I'd like to have different would be a constant wall outlet power supply option to eliminate battery usage... but I understand they last a very long time on the batteries (just 2 triple a batteries), so I'm certainly not complaining either. Just noting a possible update/upgrade for the future. Wya to Go Hue... this is an outstanding product.

I use these in place of nightlight in my house. I've set them up in two different rooms where they can detect motion down either a hallway or through multiple rooms.
Coupled with a timer function in the Philip's Hue app, they turn on when they detect motion, and then turn off automatically a few minutes later.
However, I also have one setup as a dawn/dusk sensor so that it turns on a light in the evening while ignoring the motion detection settings. After a certain time, it switches the light off, and then switches over to the motion detection mode.
