Best Recievers I have owned are Pioneer Elite. They have lasted way beyond their existing Technology. Which is the only reason I've had to upgrade them. All others seem to fail within their first 1- 2 years, Sony, Denon and Onkyo Recievers failed in my Experience.

I replaced a Denon 7.2 receiver, that failed in less than 3 months, with this receiver. Although I have owned previous Pioneer receivers in the past, this was my first Elite level receiver. I was absolutely amazed at the quality difference in sound between the consumer grade Pioneer receivers and their Elite series. Setup was a snap, following the new Android setup application. The built in Setup assistant, delivered accurate sound correction results for my theater space. Normally I choose to use manual setup with my SPL meter to get accurate levels. However after running the setup assistance, I only verified the levels and setting, and was shocked how accurately the assistant had performed. It made my Polk speakers sound the best that I have heard them ever perform. Even the built in subwoofer settings allowed my dual powered subwoofers to deliver accurate bass without sounding too booming. I enjoy the ability to allow the receiver to adjust for either increased dialogue or bass via the Android I5 application. It helps to get the best performance from the receiver and speakers, when listening to Bluray movies that have been produced for movie theater sound levels and are overemphasized in the home theater setting. I have an odd shaped converted multipurpose home theater room and it makes getting accurate sound difficult without alot of trial and error. However this receiver made it much easier to get great sound performance from my system. I don't use the Dolby Atmos feature currently, but it is nice to have the flexibility, in the future if I choose to .Bluetooth connection and built in wifi works and connects to my phone and my Internet router flawlessly. I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this product to anyone who wishes to have a great sounding home theater. Ironically, I purchased this receiver at Best Buy in their Magnolia section, and was surprised to find out with the current sale price, the receiver was a cheaper price than the consumer grade.

I like just about everything about this receiver. Seems to put plenty of power to all my Def Tech speakers. Very clean sound. I used the Macc Pro and it did a relatively good job. Its very easy to tweak to your taste if you want to make it better. I actually click through the channel levels and increase/decrease my individual speaker levels depending on where I'm at in the room. The only bad thing about this receiver is that if you have the 7.2 surround system, you can only use a second speaker zone by using the top middle speaker as speaker b. That means that you can't use a separate source for that zone. Not a big deal though. Also, you can only select Large speaker for the surround rear if you have large selected for the surrounds, otherwise, they all have to be set as small. The other thing is that best buy lists this as 1155w, but its actually 100w per channel, which would be 700w. The 165w is if your only using 1 channel. Plenty of power though!

The biggest thing I was looking for in a receiver was excellent sound quality and the ability to scale all of my video sources to at least 1080p. My final decision for to go with this receiver came when I listened to it in store head to head against the Onkyo 646, Denon 2200/4100, Marantz, and Yamaha 679. This receiver blew all the other away in sound quality the number of features it had available. Setup was fairly simple with a great on screen menu to walk through. Wireless work great and the OSD for volume scales to an appropriate size based on the resolution of the input. I would definitely recommend this receiver, especially at the price I got it on sale at $499!

I've had a few different receivers over the years, Kenwood, Denon, Onkyo. This is my first Pioneer Elite component and I'm quite happy with it. I have the receiver set up for 5.1 right now and use it for movies, stereo music via cd or digital file and SACD stereo and 5.1. I added the Pioneer Elite Blu Ray/SACD player for those discs. I get plenty of power and find the receiver quite musical. The gentleman who helped me demo this receiver in one of the Mahogany listening rooms, was extremely knowledgable and helpful. I also considered the Pioneer Elite SC-10 which is a class D receiver, both were great, I went with the VSX-90 for the performance/price (it was on sale).

Replaced this with an older one which was a pain to operate. This one is easy to switch from one function to another. Set up was easy. Hooking up the components was easy. I was even able to connect my turntable to it with a preamp. Surround sound calibration was simple with included microphone. Sound is incredible. So far so good.

I was very happy with my purchase. I was upgrading an old Onkyo receiver and needed dual zone capability. This does that and a lot more! It has dolby atmos which is great when you have ceiling mounted speakers... It gives you another dimension of sound! It connects you to your phone, tablet or computer with multiple choices to connect: Wifi, bluetooth, MHL, USB, airplay... just to name a few. You can control the receiver with an app on your phone or tablet or using your computer! There are too many features to list. The sound quality is great and the 4K and 3d pass thru make it easy to add any component to your system! Great buy!

Bought this item to replace an older Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH AV Receiver. I use it in my living room for 5.1 surround, as well as Zone 2 for speakers set up throughout the house. Plenty of power all around, and good sound quality and easy connectivity. I particularly like being able to control the entire system quickly and easily with my iPhone, using the ControlAV app for iOS. The unit is usually across the room from me, and using the phone to control it means I'm not struggling to read the tiny readout on the unit, but rather seeing the controls on my larger (and closer) phone. It's connected to my TV by HDMI, and it's nice too that the controls for both this unit and my TV also (mostly) display on the TV screen as well. I like this unit a lot, and am glad I bought it to replace my older Pioneer Elite unit.

Rock solid receiver with the 2015 bells and whistles. Sound quality excellent, plenty of power too. Set up and use straight forward. Only wish the OSD was a little more current in looks and functionality. The android app for the unit is amazing and wow what a remote it makes.

The Pioneer VSX-90 is a great receiver for the money. The features of this receiver are great. The Pioneer App is great to use and not as dull as Onkyo's App, it does has some lag and can be a pain when it happens but has only happened to me a few times. The Amp can put out some power and the audio quality is good. I do think the preset sound options are lacking in variety and when using them it feels lie something is left out either presence or sub-bass even with a sub in the sytem. Overall its a great receiver with minor draw backs for me.

I have been looking for awhile for a replacement to my older Sony receiver. I needed one which was 3D and 4K ready with the upscale features. I needed a reliable and quality receiver which would also have the features which I would not have to worry about updates in technology or features. Extremely happy and fortunate to be able to get into a top of the line receiver with quality and sound and exspandable features for my future enhancements to my home system. It was easy to set up and I got it for an excellent price

I recently purchased this receiver on Black Friday. It was purchased to replace my Yamaha Receiver that had a broken HDMI Pin. What an excellent receiver. The sound quality that resonates from my surround sound speakers and subwoofer is amazing. The receiver is also more intuitive that my previous Yamaha. Every item that I turn on with this system has no lag time in starting up. If you have the money, a Magnolia "Pioneer Elite" Receiver is truly a step above your standard receivers. Money well spent....in my opinion.

This unit replaced a old BOSE system, didn't realize what I was missing, excellent quality and sound, and with Best Buy's sales, was a very good deal, many features, and the second zone feature is nice, down load the Pioneer app and you can control this with you smart phone.

This receiver is intuitvely easy to setup amd operate. It's a solid value for a moderately powered receiver to pair with a home theatre / music system for home use. To ensure bedt performance, I would pair the unit (as I have) with reasonably efficient speakers - i.e. 92 db 1/1 pr better. I'm enjoying this!

I've owned my VSX-90 for almost a month now. I bought it desiring an inexpensive receiver capable of decoding Dolby Atmos signals, but what I got was far more than just that. It decodes just about any signal I can feed to it through HDMI. I can save .dff files onto a thumb drive, and it plays them while decoding their native DSD signal. 192kHz Multichannel LPCM? Not a problem. DTS Master HD, Dolby TrueHD, it handles them flawlessly. I've read other reviews where people had trouble with setting up this receiver. I agree there are a lot of settings that can be changed, however, Pioneer couldn't have made it more simpler to set up by using a "log in" from a PC. After entering a web address (pushing the "status" button on the remote displays the address to put into a web browser), it gives icons to follow/click through one at a time for set up. I recall it asking me which components were hooked up, how they were connected, prompted me to type in a name for each connection (like PS3, Computer, etc.) and it ran through a speaker setup using a microphone that I set on a tripod in the middle of my theater seats. The only potential issue with doing this procedure is the receiver needs to be connected with a physical Ethernet cable to your house's network router. However, I would imagine doing this greatly simplifies setup versus doing it manually. There's an "iControlAV5" app I installed onto my phone. I got this app free from the Google Play Store (I imagine iTunes has it for iPhone users) and turns your phone into a really fancy remote control for the receiver. I had a USB thumb drive with .mp3's in it plugged into the receiver, the receiver is set up in the basement, and while upstairs using the app I can turn on the receiver, pick any .mp3 I want to play, and turn the volume up. There's a ton of other functions within the app. I can particularly see this being useful if this receiver is set up for multi-zone, where the receiver is in one room connected to a TV and speakers in another room, which I don't have set up that way, but this receiver is capable of doing that. As for sound quality, I would rate it as excellent. The set-up using the microphone could not have calibrated the sound/delay levels any better. I've got an older pair of B&W DM640 speakers, and boy, do they sound good. I will say this VSX-90 receiver replaced an Integra DTR-8.8 receiver that I'd bought new in 2008 for well over $2000, and the sound quality is marginally below par from the Integra. However, that's not saying much. If I'd not had that Integra, then I'd never know what I was missing. The Integra's amplifier, to my ears, removes all harshness from the music it plays. The VSX-90's amplifier has a very small amount of harshness, and a slight absence of clarity to the music, but if you've got a good set of speakers that you'd never heard on a pricier amplifier, you'd never notice it. For the $500 price tag, this sound quality far better than I was expecting. When listening to Barbara Streisand's "Somewhere," she sounds like she's standing right in front of me singing. The choir background in Eric Clapton's "Running on faith" really stands out. Bottom line, unless you're an audiophile fanatic who demands the absolute best in sound from an amplifier, you won't be disappointed in purchasing this VSX-90. if you're an audiophile fanatic, then I can't imagine you wanting to purchase the VSX-90 anyway. The only cons of the VSX-90 that I can think of are "wants" that I would not expect in a receiver at this price. Multichannel pre-outputs would be nice in case someone wants to use it as a pre-processor with a different amplifier, as well as being able to amplify more than 7 channels at once. I know newer, more expensive Onkyos allow you to connect an amplifier to expand beyond 7 channels to 9 or 11 channels. The ability to do this would better utilize the capabilities of Dolby Atmos since an Atmos signal can include individual sound streams beyond 7 channels. I can also be a store ambassador to Best Buy. Without getting into detail, I'll say they've treated me VERY well after my purchase, and were attentive to my concern.

I needed a new receiver for my small home theater/game room I'm setting up and didn't want to break the bank like I did for my Yamaha Aventage. I owned Pioneer equipment over 20 years ago and liked their product so when I saw this one on sale I did a little research and picked it up for a great price at $399. I didn't know much about Dolby Atmos but who doesn't like the latest tech right? This is one of Pioneers entry level elite units but you wouldn't know it by the sound and features. I have it running with Polks new line of T series speakers. T50's for the front T30 center, 2 sets of T15 bookshelf speakers for side and firing up for the Atmos and a small set of polks for the rear surround with a Polk 10 inch sub running in 7.1 Atmos. All for less than &1000. WOW! I like it better for games and movies than my my main system which costs more than twice as much! I'm not using actual Atmos rated speakers but I can absolutely tell a nice difference with the Polk T15's sitting on their back on top of my T50's playing that role. Even without Atmos rated content you get more surround than straight 7.1. I think my favorite thing about the VSX90 though is the 4K up convert feature. The picture on the 6 year old LG LCD tv I hooked it up to never impressed me much until I ran it through the hdmi out on this beauty! HUGE difference in color and clarity vs straight from the directv dvr (the difference is in HD content only though). I Can't wait to actually replace it with a 4K model but with the vastly improved picture I'm satisfied to wait until I find the right deal. If you want a quality home theatre set up you can't go wrong with this unit. 6 HDMI an and 2 out gives plenty of flexibility for games systems, apple tv and the like. I'm reviewing the Polk Tseries speakers on each product I purchased as well if you'd like to know a little more about each piece individually.

This is my third Pioneer receiver. After a few years of trying some other receivers (whose channels failed and are not economical to fix), these Pioneers have been bulletproof. They seem to be on of the best balances in audio and video performance and features. They are also a pretty good value in the mid-level A/V receivers. Setup is pretty automated and straight forward. The Pioneer iOS app helps speed up custom input naming greatly and has some cool features. Since this receiver's remote is a learning remote, you can almost set up to control everything in your system. Strangely though, the 4 colored button that used to be on older remotes are gone on this one. That limits some of your remote customizing / learning. Overall, great receiver, great features, great value.

Had a Pioneer Elite receiver that was a few years old and decided to get myself a Christmas gift and replace it...finally settled on this one... Setup is a breeze with both an app and on screen display to configure your system properly, also when setting up and calibrating speaker levels the Pioneer MCACC system with microphone is easy to use and a great calibration tool. One thing to note, this will upconvert 1080p signals BUT, only the first 3 HDMI inputs. Used as a switcher as well (all other components hooked up via HDMI to receiver) wth just one HDMI cable going to my TV, the receiver works flawlessly. Fantastic centerpiece to my home theater setup and highly recommended.
