Customers consistently note the portability, Blu-ray capability, and reasonable price of the 8x External USB 3.0 Quad-Layer Blu-ray Disc DL DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive. Many appreciate its compatibility with various devices, plug-and-play functionality, and USB 3.0 connectivity. However, some users have concerns about the lack of included software and the noise it produces.

    Didn't meet my needs

I returned it. I would have kept it if I could have plugged directly to tv to play bluray. But you have to play through laptop to tv. Too much hassle. I liked the outer shell and the high speed cd burning, though

Works great, really meant for MacBooks. It costs the same price as the Apple SuperDrive but the SuperDrive only plays DVD's. I found other blu Ray burners but they cost at least $25-$40 more. My only complaint is that it must use two separate USB ports , and since my MacBook only had 2 I had to buy a 3.0 usb hub. That is why I give it only 3 stars

I was glad that the salesman at Best Buy sold me on this over the Apple Super Drive. Works better and faster. No issues.

Opted for the pioneer blu- ray writer over the Apple dvd drive the cost was the same so why not get a blu-ray burner as well.

I recently bought a laptop and like most newer laptops it didn't come with a DVD burner. I wanted to back up more then 100gb of data wether it be precious family photos I digitalized or important documents. So I did some research on Blu-ray burners because BluRays are able to hold 50gb of data. I have successfully backed up all my data and everything went flawlessly. One important thing to note, is that software is NOT included (which I knew already, from reading reviews). But software like NERO or other freeware will do the trick .

We bought this with a MacBook Pro. It plays DVDs with one USB port, but won't play Blu-ray without using two ports. There aren't two ports close enough on a MacBook Pro. The gizmo to make it work costs as much as the drive.

Feels flimsy, blue led stays on constantly. Would be better to only light up when a disk is inserted like every other drive I have ever used. Nice that it’s usb 3. Mixed results reading discs.

It plays Blue ray disks, I haven't gotten blank Bd disks yet so how well it burns I can't yet say. It burned single layer dvd no problem, played it fine.

This item works very well to create great Blu-ray Discs. You just have to make sure you have a good "burner" program installed.

Advertised as Mac compatible. Does not play or write BD discs, however. Therefore, a much cheaper option for Mac users that just writes DVD discs is more than enough

Not able to install the product because no manual or software came with the package. I have struggled several times and finally found the download sogftware and installed . Still not all DVDs are playing. Do some research buying this product. Some formats are not playing correctly.

I purchased this external drive because it was honestly the cheapest that had USB 3.0 and supported BDXL. Have been using the drive for a couple months now, and it has been very reliable, but i will say it is slower than the old internal drive I have. That's the only reason for the not getting 5 stars. Other than that, I definitely recommend it.
