I'm running 7.2.4 with an external amp. Also running zone 2 and HDZone. The IControl app works about 75% of the time and that is how I control the system......To say the least this is aggravating! Streaming Pandora was difficult at first because Pioneer had problems with their interface for about two weeks and the didn't post this anywhere. So you held on the phone for 45 minutes to find out it's not a problem that I was having but their system. Make sure you check Pioneer's website for new downloads. for updates. These update were not done via internet but had to download on thumb drive and then download to the reciever via USB. This did fix some of the bugs......

I have enjoyed stereos for as long as I can remember. I have always valued surroundsound and had almost every iteration over the years. I finally just got done upgrade my whole system the 4K. And this receiver was the final component. This unit impressed me from the get-go. It is incredibly easy to use. The sound is absolutely amazing. I'm hearing things from my speakers that I had existing that I've never heard before. I can absolutely say with 100% confidence that this and amazing receiver for the money. I have had a couple pioneer units over the years. I've also had some Yamaha units. I can say with a huge voter confidence that dollar for dollar this unit is a much better value. Most of the audio that I listen to over the stereo comes from streaming. I mostly use Pandora, Netflix, Hulu and Vudu. It all sounds really good. I really enjoy the built-in airplay and Bluetooth. It's so nice to not have to have separate components in order to use those features. The receiver unit allows pas through video even if the unit is not on. So it's very easy for family members to continue to use the TV without being frustrated by the features of the receiver. I could not be happier with my purchase as I think this will be a great investment for the next 10 years. You will not be disappointed with the purchase of the stereo !

I recently bought this receiver as a "Deal of the Day" item, it was already on sale but then I got it cheaper as the Deal of the Day. I was very impressed with all the features that you want in a Premium Receiver especially with today's technology. 6 HDMI inputs to 1 Output so I can easily hook up my XBOX One, PS4, DirecTV receiver, Firestick, Blu Ray DVD Player, Laptop, etc. and quickly toggle between any of them along with local radio stations, and Pandora/Spotify/TuneIn via WiFI with a one button push on the receiver remote without having to touch the 4K TV input, just leave it on HDMI1. Very impressed with the sound quality and use of the setup menus. Receiver does 5.1, DTS, 7.1, and Dolby Atmos so based off the speakers you use it will sound amazing. I have numerous satellite speakers hooked up along with the Center and Bass and surround sound is amazing. Since all houses and rooms are different, has Advanced MCACC Automatic Room Calibration to automatically optimize receiver sound based on room acoustics and speaker placement. Also provides WiFi and Bluetooth support so I can connect to my portable Bose Bluetooth speakers and cell phone music library to take the music and/or programming sounds to other rooms or outside for parties and events. This is truly a wonderful receiver that has just about all the technologies that are available now in one complete package receiver. Should last for years.

    An entry level Pioneer Elite

I had purchased this after finding out the my Pioneer VSX-1124 supported HDMI 2.0, but not the HDCP 2.2 standard that most UHD/4K content requires. This receiver does not disappoint. The LX101 is the entry level into this year's Pioneer Elite receivers. While it has 6 HDMI inputs, bear in mind that 3 of them are HDCP 2.2 compliant and 3 are not. If you have a 4K up-scaling Blu-Ray and a 4K television, you may run into issues using one of the HDCP 2.2 ports. This is also something to consider if you are using any device that does not output 4K natively and upscales the picture. I was quite impressed by the sound quality, ease of use of the setup menus and capabilities built into this AV receiver. While this receiver is also capable of Dolby Atmos, it supports it in a 5.1.2 configuration, as does the LX301 and SC-LX501. I would recommend researching the products and determine which best fits your needs. This receiver does 5.1 and DTS awesomely and if you have the room and extra speakers, 7.1 sound. In this price range it is comparable to other brands, but is more akin to features of it's parent company, Onkyo. This is my 5th Pioneer receiver and have never had the previous 4 die on me. Upgraded over the years to support newer technologies.

    Great receiver so far

I did some extensive research before buying this receiver and overall I'm happy with it so far. I had 2 failed Onkyo receivers in the last 13 months(luckily bought protection plan when first one died a month in). I have the 8" Klipsch reference floorstanding speakers, reference center channel, and 5.25" bookshelf surrounds and klipsch powered 10" sub. I personally prefer naturally bright speakers, high treble. Klipsch delivers this naturally, but pairing klipsch speakers with a bright sounding receiver can be a little abrasive. Yamaha makes brighter sounding receivers from what I've read so I decided to give this Pioneer a try, since Pioneer is known for warmer sounds, to balance out the speakers. Pioneer is owned by Onkyo these days so was a little skeptical about longevity, but I hope this receiver lasts. Soundwise the MCAPP(sp?) surround setup is as good as or better than others I've used. The white noise wasn't as abrasive. I feel that it made my surrounds a bit louder than my previous setup, which I like. I can actually tell they're on during normal music now. My subwoofer seems much better than previously as well. It seemed more "rattly" before, and jumped in and out more often.. Seems like it uses a larger frequency range now. I didn't change the dials on the sub at all. As far as inputs go my previous receiver only had banana plugs for the two floorstanders. I like this much better where everything just goes in with banana plugs. 6x hdmi(3 of which are hdcp 2.2) is nice. I'm most happy that this receiver has 4k upscaling from 1080p sources. I like that it's internet connected for updates, but like my smart tv, I don't see myself using any of the apps on it for music. I have an amazon prime stream box and an xbox one, so I'd rather stream music videos, but it is convenient. The only odd thing I noticed is when using my phone to bluetooth stream to it, there was a delay between audio and video(with using youtube all on the phone). That's something I would rarely do though, if I'm cleaning or something I'd just use amazon music app(which if you pay for prime you should try it.. much better than spotify and pandora, and music quality is far far better than other services, though I'm sure it uses more data I'm okay with it)

Rarely do you find a purchase that goes above and beyond the value in price. This receiver replaced an Onkyo A/V receiver HT-RC460, and I haven't looked back. I only have a 5.1 system, but I was glad to find out that I could run my tower speakers in Bi-Amp mode, and use the additional two amps to run separate power to the mids and tweets. Very clean signal, super easy to install, and really like the on screen menu. Sound quality is superb and delivers to every channel. Definitely recommend setting up the sound using the mic for first time install and then you can store away the mic. Construction of the case is solid, the backside connections are setup just right, and the front display looks clean and the display can be dimmed (bonus)! Some will comment the remote is plain, but I like the simplicity of it and the soft touch of the buttons. What I liked most is that I thought I would need a 250 page manual to figure out all the features, not true. The install book is simple to follow, easy to read, and straight froward, making setup very easy, which is a huge plus when installing a home theater system. I don't know of any other receiver that delivers quality, easy of use, and reliability for this price point. This model wasn't even on display but when the Best Buy rep explained all the models on the floor and then told me about all the features of this model in the box, I was sold. Plus, just read all the positive reviews, rarely do you see 99% all positive comments. Go with this model if you are only willing to spend $500 on a receiver, you will be 100% satisfied!

Read all the reviews before buying. I have not been disappointed. Highly recommended by BB Geek. Meets and exceeds my needs. Was surprised to learn that Onkyo and Pioneer had merged and quality of both companies show in this receiver. Easy to setup. Nice features. Upgradeable for future firmware. Real value for the price.

I have never been a big fan of Pioneer but this unit is excellent. Setup was relatively easy and quick. Some of my peripherals did not have HDMI connections but that was easily remedied. Most units do not have connections for Phono without using a pre-amp. This one does. Very impressive. Great sound and easy control. I will definitely look to Pioneer when I add new peripherals.

    Long Time Pioneer Elite Users

Holy cow. Wow. Really. We had a Pioneer Elite prior to this and it sounded NOTHING like this. Granted - if you need bigger sound you can go much bigger,.. but this pairs fabulously with out audiophile speaker set up and the B&O we use with it. It sounds fabulous! The ease of Bluetooth is so wonderful. We even had to seriously change sub woofer levels because it is house shaking. One thing you will need to know is that Directv receiver models are not all "arc" ready. You will see this on the back of the receiver - I think the 1st 4 are "arc" ready. This means you have to get one of those arc rated cables to HEAR and SEE content on newer 4k products. Your DirectV is not ARC ready - we ran a regular high speed HDMI cable (do not use arc - you won't get sound) into the "Game" input and it all works fabulously. We love the sound Spotify has on this thing. Wow. Trash those cd's and those files from iTunes. (They sound sucky) go in with Spotify or your Amazon,.. it does amazing sound. 3D too! Active and Passive. Boom baby!! This is the perfect dealio! Btw - did you get the special pricing? We did,.. so we got two of these babies!

This receiver is amazing!! Sound is well balanced, if you can get the Class D3 amp choose that over A/B. AB amps have a harsher tone of sound. DAC is a SABRE DAC which is a plus. There's so many features in this unit it's well worth the price. Dual zone works fluidly, Bluetooth, usb, internet radio, pandora, etc etc. Remote is cumbersome but I just use android app. What I love most is the sound. Don't get any of the VSX models, spend the money and get the SC line of receivers. Picture quality of the output is amazing, connecting xbox one, PS4, and cable TV works well also. The menus screens is hard to use. connecting to wifi took a bit. Still, the sound on this blows any of its competitors in this price range.

This receiver appears to have many of the features of a similar Onkyo Receiver but I have liked Pioneer more in the past. I was not disappointed with its power, FM, CD, BD, and TV (including Netflix) features. I am pulling in over 25 good signal FM stations from 40 miles away in Atlanta. My Onkyo 6 CD changer's digital/analog converter does a nice job playing through this receiver, especially with good analog cables. The Toslink digital CD decoding was slightly bright. The amplifier sound quality and reserve punch power works very well with my big Paradigm speakers. This receiver is at least the equal of prior Yamaha, Denon, and Harman Kardon receivers which cost twice as much. There are fewer RCA analog connections in the rear panel but I haven't missed the snakes nest of past receivers. I hope it is as durable as past Pioneer equipment. I know that it is the entry level Magnolia receiver, but I am hoping for many years of listening pleasure.

About a year ago, I revamped my 5.1 surround sound system with a new 4K UHD TV, 4k UHD Blu-ray player, and a 4k UHD receiver. My previous receiver was a pioneer and I went with a Sony this time around. That was a mistake. I started having problems with the ARC feature on the receiver...no sound from the apps on the TV and the picture would cut out from the TV and DVD player. I had to turn off the ARC to stop the issue with the picture and that would also prevent me from watching 4K content. BestBuy did the best to fix the problem but no luck. With the store credit I went with this pioneer receiver and have had no issues since. Very easy set up...almost like plug and play. I will always go with pioneer in the future!

I had read reviews for Sony ( I have the TV ) & Onkyo which I was upgrading and another brand. They were all on sale. But the young man who helped me took me to Pioneer. I didn't even know they were still around. I had Pioneer growing up and as young adult. I was happy because I knew the brand was good. Even though it wasn't on sale I bought it. I love it. It was easy enough to set up Son did it for me . I like the looks. Love how easy it is to use. I don't have speakers hooked up in the other rooms yet but in my living room It rocks as surround sound and music. Has blue tooth and WiFi. I have not found any negative to this streaming system.

I had to replace a unit that began to malfunction and was pleased that this unit turned out to have the same quality of sound and capabilities, but was easier to install and set up for operation. Overall a good purchase for someone who appreciates good sound, but isn't obsessive about perfection, and enjoys convenient control of many different inputs in one system. My only disappointment was that there were no inputs designed for my old DVD player, the manufacturer having abandoned the old 3 RCA input approach. Of course, how many dinosaurs are still out there?

I was looking for an economical receiver to use with speakers to replace a soundbar which was not giving me what I considered to be satisfactory TV sound. My hearing is not as good as it used to be, and I thought positioning speakers not far from where I sit to watch TV would help. I lucked into this Pioneer Elite receiver on sale as a Deal of the Day promotion and set it up with a center channel and two front bookshelf speakers. It delivers exceptional sound quality and solved my problem. I'm very satisfied with the purchase.
