You don't see many games starting off less that $50, but this one does and it is a beautiful game. While the first 20min of ReCore are enamoring, the first boss fight will make you want to throw your controller. If that one doesn't I guarantee the second one will. There is a game dynamic called "core extracting" where when you have a baddy down to a certain health you can grapple their core from their body for an "instant kill." The problem is you activate this with the R3 (press in on right stick) and then use the stick to achieve just the right amount of tension to extract. Too little and they snap your cable, too much and you snap your cable. The problem is that with normal enemies this isn't too hard a sweet spot to find, normally. With the big bads it is so frustrating you will want to punch a kitten. Really wish they had gone with a button smash, or button sequence match minigame to do this. Complaint #2 is the loading times. If you like having time to vacuum the living room, do dishes, slop the hog, do your homework, or run a quick errand to the local pharmacy while your game is loading between your character's home, and the open world. This is the game for you. I exaggerate a little, but man there is a lot of loading. Once the loading is done you are in an beautiful mostly open world. The third thing that will have you screaming for mercy is when you step into a part of the world you are not leveled up enough for. There isn't a warning sign or something preventing you from going there. You will just get your butt handed to you repeatedly until you shut the game off and use the disc for a skeet shoot, or you go somewhere else for a while and then you find the long unmarked road around and wonder why it was so hard in the first place. I know this looks like a bad review but I really do like this game. Once you understand the flaws/frustrations you begin to work with them. Story is good, the player is made to care about the main character and pals, and again the game is beautiful. I can forgive a lot for a $20 cheaper game.

The game looks great with a certain style. The story is interesting but nothing to innovative. The characters are charming and you will enjoy them. Now for the flaws. It has serious load times even after the patches. I don't know why but it happens. It tends to have frame rate issues sometimes even in the cutscenes. In the modern era, I have no idea why we are still dealing with these problems. The developer just isn't that technically skilled. Gameplay is fun and recognizable. It's a modern platformer. Combat is a little dull and repetitive. Even after all this, I would highly recommend it. I was able to overlook all the minor flaws to just enjoy the game and the story.

This really is an amazing looking game with a wonderful breath of fresh story and intriguing lead, but unfortunately the game is marred with long load times, glitchy frame rate issues and an extreme difficulty spike late in the game that creates a hard juggling of your abilities during combat.

    Good Game but missing something

Let me start off with the price. The price of this game was reduced well before the launch, from $60 to $40. Next I'd like to say this is an excellent game all on it's own--the storyline is good, the mechanics are really easy to get used to, and the challenges are challenging. You do get frustrated at some of the dungeons though, because things are so hidden and time is against you. The gameplay mechanics are easy to get used to but it also doesn't get any more difficult once you've mastered the 'core extraction'. It took me about 20 tries on first major boss of the game to really get the extraction technique down. After that, it becomes easy breezy extractions. What I don't like is that there will be a DLC for this game (although it's unannounced). And you know this because one of the corebots are unavailable in this stand alone game (probably the reason to reduce the price pre-launch). The most annoying part of this game is HOW MANY TIMES the loading screen comes up.

Recore is a good game it has a great story. The controls feel good not laggy, you can customize your corebot companions which is great, the platforming is fun too. The only problem I have with it is the graphics needs polish. But all in all its an Enjoyable game.

This game isn't like anything I have played on my Xbox. It offers a semi-open world experience with plenty of customization, platforming, and frantic fighting sequences. Even when not platforming in the many dungeons, I still find plenty of entertainment and challenge while fighting enemy bots alongside my own team of corebots. It's also very family friendly and a game I wouldn't hesitate playing around the kids. I have only found two cons in my experience so far and they are not a big deal in my opinion. First, the load times can take a while but I don't think a load screen has ever lasted longer than a minute. Second, the graphics sometimes look like an Xbox 360 game and other times look great.

    A rare gem

For some of us folks that have been playing video games for some while now (Nintendo was my first console btw) can appreciate when a game comes out and tries something different, and in this case something old school. This game is fantastic in that regard. It plays like well done platformer, which i haven't played since Jack and Daxter. I didn't think this game would have that as its primary play style at first. Don't get me wrong, the combat is also very enjoyable, swapping between different colored ammo to match the enemy your fighting, while commanding your A.I. companion what to do is quite satisfying. I started really liking this game after discovering some of its secret dungeons, and how fun/challenging it was completing them and unlocking rare parts for your partner. It's sad how people are so focused on graphics now and days that it will get judged just by that immediately. Graphics help, but don't make the game. It's not perfect by any means (Loading times are a little much, some Frame drops in intense battles) but for me it is, especially now when games are so focused on Hollywood movie story telling, saturated with FPSs, and disappointing hype ( *cough* No Mans Sky, Destiny *cough* to name a few) I just want a game that is fun to play, and Recore is just that. I don't care if the story isn't thought provoking or life changing, it's not what I look for in a video game. Don't let mainstream reviews deter you from trying it, you might actually like it if you try it. I own the collectors edition of Recore, and have a review of it as well.

I love this game. It's a great mix of adventure and puzzle. Reminds me of ratchet and clank. Things can be a bit lacking in what is expected to be done but I guess that's the puzzle part of the game. The graphics are okay. Not the best for what they could be. I think its a great game. I do wish there was a multiplayer of some sort that would be cool.

If you enjoy platformers, tight controls, and collect-a-thons like Banjo Kazooie this game is for you. At launch this game had many game breaking bugs, long loading times and was very poorly optimized. A recent patch has fixed the major bugs and improved performance. It's seems probable that the game was not finished/polished and Microsoft told them to release it in the current state because it was supposed to kick off their play anywhere campaign. The fifth robot campaign who is clearly needed for some areas is still not present in the game. For a $40 this game is relatively short and the story is pretty light. I haven't finished it but the game is probably around 20 hours to complete. The visuals are fairly good and it has an interesting atmosphere. It's a good start for a new IP.

Overall, the game is a fun game. The mechanics remind me of Ratchet and Clank. The platforming aspect of the game is dead-on and is an enjoy. Even the shooting, while it comes off as simplistic, is enjoyable and can even pose a challenge. Cons: The game has very long load times. They have seem to have beomce a little shorter, but overall these are some of the worst on the Xbox One. This can sometimes take away from the enjoyment of the game. My only other complaint is that towards the end of the game, you will need to grind quite a bit to be able to progress. This doesn't really pose too much of an issue in the beginning of the game, but will become more of an annoyance the further you progress. To exasperate the issue, each time you need to "hop" between locations, you are greeted with a loading screen. As I previously mentioned, it is the loading screens which take away from the experience, and make back tracking that much more of an annoyance. Overall: gameplay is an 8-9.5. However, because of the the long load times, I cannot give this more than a 7 out of 10. I definitely do recommend this to anyone who is a fan of games like Ratchet and Clank, but this recommendation comes with a big *. I recommend this game for those who are not turned off to long load times which adds hours on to the game.

This is one of those games that will be really underrated because of initial poor reviews and its genre. The platforming in this game is really satisfying. I'm having a lot of fun traversing huge heights and exploring the overworld and the levels. Combat is frantic and does require some strategy besides auto-aim. The negatives are the boss fights are occasionally hampered by arbitrary invisible walls, and the controls seems to randomly lock up once in a while during these fights. The other is the load times still aren't great for a game that doesn't seem to need a lot of hardware support. Overall, a fun game for the price.

I picked this up on sale for $10 and was pleasantly surprised to find out the DLC which is part of the definative edition of the game downloaded for free. So basically if you can find this version you may as well get it as you will get all the upgrades and add ons for free. As far as gameplay and story it's pretty good if you like slower paced action games. It's metroid-ish as far as areas and exploration and not to heavy on combat. It has some RPG elements as far as leveling up characters. All in all a decent game for a great price

I had high hopes for this title as it had the involvement of Inafune and the developer of Metroid Prime 3. The game for the most part is enjoyable but the load times are atrocious. And to make matters worse you often get caught in battles where you are hopelessly out numbered and you are unable to recover as your being shot from all directions. Then the long load happens. I'm all for a challenge, but the load times kill me more than the game deaths. I think the game is enjoyable and at least MS is upgrading everyone to the definitive edition for free which gives you an additional bot and weapons and better load times.

Recore is fun and that's really all there is to it. Reviews have been pretty mediocre, but they're mainly focused on the end game. To be 100% honest, I'm not quite there (about two dungeons to go), but I've already spent about 20 hours running around the maps looking for prisms. It's a blast and I don't think a few more hours is going to make me feel any less about the game. The loading times are definitely bad (on XBox One), so if you're impatient, keep your phone or something nearby.

First and foremost, I was told that this game was not the greatest, then I played it and thought to myself. Wow! This game is way better than ign made it out to be. From a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a solid 8.25. You play as the main character Joule who is lost on a desolate planet where robots that were once kind and endearing turn in to killing machines. The storyline is cool enough, but to me the gameplay is what makes it.

this game has some elements I really like such as being able to explore freely and go into an overpowered zone and getting throttled. However, some of the play controls are difficult to use and it makes it where you spend more time on frustration not from lack of ability on the player's part, but from an element of poor game design. I do like to see new IP rather than sequels, but the story isn't always engaging.
