ReMarkably Difficult

I love this tablet.
I hate this tablet.
Both are equally true.
This is a great writing tablet for a VERY small customer base.
Get this if you:
- Are easily distracted
- Like to write by hand
Don't get this if you:
- Want to also read ebooks
- Want any kind of connectivity to all but a few services like Google Drive, Slack and OneDrive
- Want to do art beyond a pencil sketch
It's not an android tablet. It has nothing other than the writing and export functions. Oddly, this is draw of this device while also being it's biggest limitation. I find it extraordinarily helpful because I frequently will open up my phone or laptop with the intent to do something important, see I have a notification, and proceed to ADHD so hard that I fully forget what I was trying to do in the first place.
ReMarkable slows things down. It makes you think and write and not get distracted because there's nothing to distract you with. For that reason, I love this tablet.
...But here are all the reasons I hate it:
- Power Button Placement - The power button being in the upper right is constantly accidentally pressed when I use my free left hand to adjust the tablet while writing.
- Lock Screen Function - It's only a pin on a device that isn't particularly responsive which gets really old really fast.
- Pen Tips - This is a personal issue but I've gone through 2 tips in about 2.5 weeks due to hand tremors forcing me to hold the tip to the screen harder than advisable. If you have similar dexterity concerns, this may not be the right choice.
- Touch Screen - The screen does respond to a finger tap, but only about 60% of the time. This makes quick actions like tapping with two fingers to undo your last pen stroke much more frustrating than helpful.
- Exports - Mentioned above, but if you're like me and would love to be able to search through your info really fast with ctrl+f or a file search, this naturally won't be of much help. Not only are there limited services for exporting your documents, the handwriting-to-type conversion is only okay. If future me isn't using the tablet and I ask him why, he's most likely going to complain about this.
- Resize Bug - It's minor, but I frequently will leave a note in the tablet to go to another one and come back to find that it's zoomed out to 0.8x or 0.9x scale. It's a small difference, but when the gestures to zoom in and out are reliant on finger taps that are only registering 60% of the time, it's very frustrating.
I love this tablet.

I actually bought the Remarkable Pro first ... and ended up returning it for this version. The Pro was great, but I liked the screen/writing surface and size of this smaller version better. All in all, both products are great, but this suited my needs better!

At first I was thinking this tablet is expensive but I still got it and when I started using I love it. This tablet helps for focus, study and the sync option to the computer is the best option for college student.

I wasn't sure I'd get used to grabbing this instead of notebook paper but wow, I love it! My office is fully paperless now. I write about 20-25 pages of notes each day and some days more. I am hooked!

Does exactly what it was designed to do - take notes in an organized way. Also adding a planner PDF takes the remarkable to the next level. I have mine on and open from 8am-7pm and can’t live without it.
There really are no bells and whistles or bloatware that you’ll never use. Literally a notebook on steroids. Once you get used to it you’ll say the same.
Also the ability to view and edit my notes on the fly - on any device is great.
There is a sticker shock but I think it’s well worth it.

The tablet itself is beautiful. The feel of writing is great, it’s sturdy, the case is nice. The biggest issue I have is that it is a Linux based operating system. My company would not allow me to pair it with any office applications or Adobe for pdf exchange. There is no end to end encryption, so the security isn’t there. If you intend to use this for work and want to sync files, make sure your company allows use of this device and its OS first. Ultimately, I did return it.

The reMarkable is a niche product that does exactly as advertised. Great for note taking, writing, handwriting to text transferring. Works well for reading and editing pdfs.

Losing markers (pens) too easy

Writing on this tablet is very good. I'm liking the file handling, cloud access, and size of the unit. Two reasons for the 3 stars: The first is BIG. The Marker Plus "pen" that comes with it is great.....so great that they charge something like $139 for a new one, and it's VERY easy to lose this pen. There is no clip on it, and they are asking you to rely on the magnets that keep it held to the tablet when not in use. At first, this connection feels strong (yes, I'm putting the pen in the right spot for maximum magnetic hold), but in the real world, it takes VERY little effort to knock the pen free. This is my first week with this device visiting customers, and I have lost (and luckily found) the pen 4 times in 4 days. One of the times took me and my customer 20 minutes.....embarrising and not professional. I WILL lose this pen permanently if I don't find a solution.
For the price, this should have some better retention for the pen (maybe a sleeve?). Now I have to go find something and spend more money. Do they do this intentionally to help you lose pens to sell more? It would be nice to have a pocket to hold business cards in the folio as well. There is a huge market for business (sales and reps) people to use this and, these are turn-offs. Many people have asked me about the device in 4 days, and when I tell them the "bad", they are no longer interested.
Second reason is the price. Now that I have it, it seems worth more like $350 total instead of $600 (with tax).

Works well, writes and draws like paper, only thing that sucks is, it can’t work(transfer) without a subscription. One year subscription is included.

I purchased this device for one of my employees in order to help eliminate the stack of sticky notes that would periodically get misplaced or completely disorganized. Much of which leads to inefficiencies. So far it has been AMAZING! She has fallen in love with the ease of using this device and the seamless workflow integration where emailing handwritten notes to keep track of important items has been extremely helpful.

Absolutely love this pad. The flexibility is incredible. I can organize pages and notebooks. I have both personal and business information organized and easily accessible. We have the annual subscription to the app so it syncs with our laptops for complete access to notes. Highly recommend this for anyone needing an organization tool!! Very happy with this purchase

Lose your legal pads

I was initially dubious, even to the point of considering returning. I'm glad I didn't. My yellow legal pads are now in the past! This is an incredible organizational tool, allowing me to scribble notes that automatically sync to my computer, so I can move them to the appropriate file.
Where previously I was leafing through notepads when someone called, to find my notes from a previous conversation, I can pull everything up instantly.
Thoroughly recommended.

I use to use countless yellow note pads for work and I would end up leaving them all over the place. Remarkable allows me to organize my thoughts, share them with whomever and with the price tag I would never leave it anywhere!

I had a paperwork pile problem. That is, I take notes- for clients, when I am reading, my to do list, etc. This tablet solved that problem. I now have one place to find all my notes and can organize them so that I can find them and can share them with others. Great investment. I can only imagine how much money I have saved on little notebooks and how much time I save in looking through them to find the note I took!
