Looking at the packaging and what needs to be installed seemed intimidating at first, but really the only time consuming aspect of this entire install was tweaking the settings afterwards to your liking.
Setting up the base was a breeze, plug in, connect to the network, then the rest of the setup will guide you on each component that came included with your kit. For each component it was, pull the battery tab, place the sensor (with directions), and test....rinse, repeat.
Shared users will need to be added with their own unique code.
If you have a Z-wave lock, specifically a schlage, you can even add that to your Ring Alarm and have the same codes sync up (unlock door with code, disarm system). You can even assign guess access to your door and alarm without guests having access to your settings.
If you had other z-wave devices you want Ring to monitor, you will need to unenroll them from their previous hub to the Ring Alarm. We did that for our Fire Alarms and Water Sensors.
It's nice to hear and get notifications if doors open, and if you have Alexa, s/he can even show you the doorbell and arm your system without having to open the app.
If there is a downside, there are two, but not deal breakers:
- Set Schedule for arming/disarming the system
- Ability to silence the "Arm/Disarm" voice during quiet hours
Overall, this was an excellent investment, and for 100 bucks a year (or 10 per month), having all the components covered is worth the added security. Speaking of, when you enroll in the plus program, you have the option to have professional monitoring or self monitoring. You can switch back and forth when needed. Professional will get a hold of you if an alarm goes off and act as a proxy..even gives out duress codes if needed.

Overall, the system works very well and is very customizable. Higher price of entry than other options if you include cameras in the mix - which I bought directly from Ring - but the monthly monitoring price is very reasonable. There are a couple of features that I was surprised were not included - especially considering my original Xfinity system (5 years old) had them from day one - one of which being an at-home night mode. Was also surprised how hard it was to set up an automated arm mode based on time of day - had to use a third party integration in addition to Alexa to make it work which was very uncesssary. Seems such a simple update to make. Otherwise, the reasons I chose to switch (PoE cameras for stability and lower price) have worked out well. The range extender for the base unit has been especially helpful in bringing a more consistent connection to all the devices, even though we took advantage of PoE cameras.

Works great after everything was updated. And at the security is cheaper than any other system out there.

I got this to replace an aging, different system, and was impressed by the simple, easy setup (through a phone app), and how all the pieces were already linked to the base. Got everything installed smoothly, linked with my doorbell and voice assistant, and so far, it's been really good. I didn't get any of the other Ring cameras, but it's nice to know that there's a wide variety of options to upgrade this if my budget allows.

My first time using an alarm system, everything works great and it easy, also there is hardly any lag at all.
