Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is the newest and greatest of Ring’s outdoor “stick up cam” line of cameras. If you’re familiar with the line already, all you need to know is that this is an upgrade in every way. If you’re not familiar with Ring cameras or want to know more, read on! These are online based security cameras, and you’ll need both a solid Wi-Fi connection and power to make work. This camera is their outdoor camera with a battery, although you can still use it indoors if you’d like. Battery life is going to depend heavily on settings for the camera, how often it records, and how often you’re viewing livestreams. I find the battery convenient for placement in areas where a power connection isn’t ideal, but I also have extra batteries ready to go when I need to swap out. Be aware that the batteries are still charging slowly via the old micro-USB standard and that takes the better part of a day/overnight to charge. You can convert battery power to hard wired plug-in or add a solar charger with additional purchases. Most of my cameras are good for a around 3-5 weeks, but it remains to be seen if the higher video quality of this new Outdoor Cam Plus affects things. The other important thing to know right off the bat is the Ring subscription service. You are not required to pay any subscription fees; however, you only will have access to real-time events. That is to say you receive notifications and view live events as they’re happening. If you want to view recorded videos, save or share them, you need a subscription. There are several types of subscriptions monthly and annually based off of the types of services and Ring products you may have. At the time of this writing, the standard plan for multiple cameras is $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr. I have a total of five cameras, so I do not mind paying for this. To the best of my knowledge, nearly all camera systems similar to this have their own subscription services. There is a trial that is included in the purchase of this camera. In the box, you have the camera fully assembled, one battery pack, USB cable (A to micro), some basic documentation, and basic mounting hardware. Set up required your Ring app on your phone, with a Ring account. You do need to charge the battery first, which does take some time. After that, you scan the QR code on the camera itself with your phone and it walks you through all the steps of setting up, adjusting settings, firmware updates, and even how to mount the camera. The camera can be freestanding or mounted on a wall or ceiling. Overall, the initial setup took maybe 10 minutes after the battery was charged. Diving into the features, the biggest thing to note here is the 2K video quality. This quality is very noticeable and makes my other cameras look outdated in comparison. There is also a larger field of view for the camera. And a feature that I think is important in 2025 with modern networking, the ability to use both 2.5GHz and 5.0GHz Wi-Fi connections. These are all improvements over the now slightly older version and all, in my opinion, worthwhile updates. Also worth noting is the camera has a siren that can be activated from your app, as well as two-way talk with noise cancellation, so you can communicate with whomever is on the other side of the camera. Regarding my opinion, let me say that we’re already a Ring household, with a doorbell, indoor, and outdoor cameras already. I’m not versed enough to compare the Ring ecosystem to other camera ecosystems, but I will say that my partner and I are both happy with the ring service and paying the subscription fee. That subscription fee, of course, becomes more worthwhile the more cameras you have. I do have the ability to compare it to the now older Ring Stick Up Cam/Outdoor Cam. I will say that I do not have any issues with that existing camera. However, the Outdoor Cam Plus is just an improvement to that camera in every regard. While at the heart it’s the same set of camera features, the added clarity of 2k video, wider field of view, and better WiFi support make this an easy recommendation to me. It’s everything we’re happy with in our current camera, but better. It’s really that simple. If you’re in the market for a security camera, I think the Outdoor Cam Plus is a great entry into seeing if you’d like this type of system. No, it’s not the cheapest camera out there, but I think the price for the features, both on the camera itself and with the Ring software on your phone, are worth it. With this camera, you can move it around outdoors, use it indoors, and get a feel for what you may want to see out of additional security cameras. I would recommend this as the camera from Ring people try out first.

The Ring Outdoor Cam plus is not my first Ring product. I love their video doorbells and have installed them at several relatives houses. It makes sense to have all your cameras in one app and I have continued to add a variety of Ring cameras to monitor my yard, garage, driveway, and living room. I have installed and tried other camera systems, but none of them are as easy to use as Ring products. Ring offers cloud storage at a reasonable cost, Alexa integration, and reliable remote monitoring via an easy to use app. I installed the Ring Outdoor Cam (plug-in) in my detached garage (my wife often leaves the doors open and I don't want my tools to walk off). I went with the outdoor plug-in version, because my garage is not climate controlled and I was worried what the Texas heat and humidity might due to a less hardy camera. Pros 1. Installation and setup are easy. The app guides you through the setup to connect the camera to your network using a QR code. There are multiple placement options (table-top/shelf stand or wall mount) and the camera is on a ball for easy adjustment. The base and camera each have an additional "security" screw to make it harder to tamper with the camera or remove it from the mount. The power cord has an overall length of about 17.5 feet, with an integrated/mountable power supply at the 7.5 foot mark (after which the cable transitions to a thinner DC cable that should be easy to route). The install kit includes a variety of screws for mounting and cable routing (including anchors for drywall/masonry). 2. The Clean, compact design easily blends in. There is only a small blue LED that is lit when recording and 2 infrared LEDs that can be seen above the lens at night. 3. Wide viewing angle and 2K video, with HDR and color night vision. HDR really improved the contrast when my garage doors are open, allowing you to see the driveway in bright sunlight and the darker garage interior at the same time. The viewing angle is also impressive capturing the entire length of my three car garage from a position near the entrance door with a good view down my driveway. 4. Two way audio and a warning siren to let you listen in, speak with people through the camera, and warn tool thieves you can see them. 5. Alexa integration allows you to view cameras, receive notifications, and make basic changes using an Alexa device. 6. The Ring application is fantastic - working well on all both my Android and Apple phones. It is easy to enable the camera, view historical events, change settings, and manage multiple Ring devices. You can even set up smart notifications (people, cars), configured detailed motion areas, and set linked triggers if you have multiple cameras (example: one camera might trigger an adjacent one to start recording to capture an event across multiple camera views). Things to consider 1. The 2K video is beautiful when viewing a large area and better than my older 1080p cameras, but things like text are still fuzzy when you zoom in. Having a bad Wi-Fi signal can make this worse due to compression and can also cause cameras to lose connection. I have a mesh Wi-Fi system so I have pretty good coverage and still had to restrict the camera to the 2.4Ghz band (using the router settings) to get the best performance. 2. Low light images are clear and color night vison increases the color you can see at night in mixed light, but the color is influenced by ambient light color (my driveway and breezeway lights give the garage a yellow tint with the doors open) and in low light (doors shut/all lights off ) video looks gray like a standard black and white camera.

General Impression Ring is definitely one of the most recognizable brands for security camera systems out there so expectations are quite high. This outdoor security camera safely meets such expectations. The design, features, app and quality of the video justify the assessment. Build quality and design The camera is quite robust and appears able to withstand the weather. The product is intended for both indoor and outdoor use. The mount is adjustable to multiple positions. I wish that the mount or the base of the camera were magnetic but that’s not the case. Installation Installation is just like any other outdoor camera. The good thing is it doesn’t require wiring as the camera gets power from its own battery. Setting up the camera for the first time is intuitive enough and the process was smooth. The drill screws that it came with were a bit too long and I would prefer them shorter, especially when the installation guide says that drilling should be done manually by hand. Video Quality and Features Video quality is excellent, and the camera came packed with features including cloud video storage and access, zoning system, siren/ alert and smart responses that let your camera greet visitors when you’re not available. I have the camera installed overlooking my garage, and the camera can handle complex lighting conditions really well. There is a plethora of accessories for the camera, so you’re buying into a great ecosystem. The camera can also be easily integrated into your Amazon smart home solutions. Gone are the days when you don’t really have to subscribe to access your video from the cloud. Ring is actually the pioneer of a subscription-based system. So, it’s no wonder that their pricing structure seems to cater to everyone’s needs. The standard subscription cost competes with other security camera solutions. Even the most basic subscription cost offers good value, but the benefits only apply to a single camera. The highest subscription tier, which is double the cost of standard, gives you 24/7 recording. App The user interface and app experience are excellent. Both the Android and iOS versions are equally solid. Notification systems are very good and responsive, and users can report potential threat through the app to Ring users’ community in your neighborhood. You will periodically receive similar notifications from people who live miles away from you, as well. Conclusion Can’t go wrong with this security camera system. The video quality, features, app performance and overall Ring and smart home ecosystem are just great. The Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is a reliable and effective tool for monitoring activity in and around my home. This camera allows for 2K picture/video quality and it's a very user friendly app that works well on my smartphone. I'm impressed with the easy setup process in the Ring app that walks me through the setup process. The battery operated camera is easy to charge and get started right out of the box. Ring Vision delivers a brilliant 2K color and clarity for easy viewing of what is happening on camera. Having the ability to monitor situations at home/office/retail have been helpful to stay in the loop. The provided mount allows for me to place this easily wherever I would like. I can use this Ring Outdoor Cam Plus simply on its own base and point it in the direction I would like. Just as easily I can wall mount it for added security in certain settings to get an overview of my property. The Ring camera is also weather resistant so even on rainy days I'm able to keep an eye on the property without distortion and worry about keeping my camera dry. Ring offers a lot of additional options and accessories so this can be bundled with items later on down the road. Ring Outdoor Cam Plus comes with Ring Vision, which is touted as True View Components for better clarity and less glare, Clarity Engine to preserve image quality and footage, and Expert Calibration to help ensure outstanding visual performance. A very nice feature I have liked is the Low-Light Sight. This is ideal for scenarios where I'm pointing the camera at doorways or points of entry that have low light or for nighttime areas. This technology gives me Ring 2K detail in dark scenarios, but I get true to life color. This is especially helpful in getting a better visual of a person or vehicle to see the color of a garment, skin tone, or vehicle. The Ring app associated with the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus is great for getting notifications with a visual and audible pop up. Easily able to communicate with the party on camera with live view and 2 way talking ability. The ability to subscribe to a Ring Home Plan is available at different pricing plans suitable to one's needs. I like that I can buy this Ring Outdoor Cam Plus as a standalone item or connect it to the vast array of Ring products to build a security system within the Ring ecosystem. I also like using this Ring Outdoor Cam Plus with my Amazon Alexa devices such as my Echo Dot, and my Fire TV to easily view the camera with an audible command. I think this is a reliable and high quality camera with a trusted brand that works well in both indoor and outdoor settings.
